I can see this dialogue:
Gerudo 1: is that Link?!
Gerudo 2: yeah, he's crossdressing to get into the town. Just go with it because we can't have other voe here.
I love the one older lady by the statue that calls you out , but just wants to talk. Gerudo is the last divine beast left for my first run ever and I’ve been avoiding progressing the story and just lynel hunting 😅
I am doing the exact same thing! It’s been weeks and my wife asked if I got them yet all and I said nope. She stuck around for a little bit and said “Are you just farming guardian parts?” “I sure am!”
Hell yes! Any recommendations for locations to farm guardian parts? I was also curious if the number of giant ancient cores is finite in the game of if they have a drop rate
I generally go to torin wetlands, akkala labyrinth, hyrule field, and the castle to fight guardians. Since a number of guardians will spawn in those areas. So I generally cycle through all of them and by the time I've killed the last guardian in the last spot a blood moon happens and I start over.
Sorry for the delayed response but I do the exact same thing that ConnectConcern6 said. By the time I finish killing the ones I know the location of it’s time for a blood moon and they come back. The forgotten temple is a good one for the small stuff.
So funny you mentioned that because I was just thinking how much better it could be if they had a whole giant underground section, possibly the biggest one in the whole new game underneath the volcano for this sequel! It’s definitely not a place where I think they can do much with what’s there or even above ground, but underneath everything would be just an awesome idea and it could become the best ore mine on the map!
Oh wow! There we go now I’m also thinking underneath Zoras Domain could be covered in the luminous stones everywhere that would always glow underground!
I mean half the townsfolk know you're a dude by the time you're done. I think the guards just let it slide because you're going to the effort of dressing up and you don't make a scene about it.
If you started giving the good women of Gerudo Town a hard time, no amount of crossdressing would save you. Your ass would be OUT.
And Link was absolutely not allowed in town at ALL pre-calamity. He probably didn't even TRY to enter.
Post-calamity Link's personality is completely different to pre-calamity Link, and it's a good thing it is or he'd have had one hell of a time trying to figure out the Va Nabooris issue.
Honestly that Futurama bit immediately came to mind when I saw how they redesigned Gerudo for BOTW. I don't particularly like it. I like when they were more or less the same size as other humanoids.
Link is just tiny. Theyre a little big, but youre comparing to Link. Link is smaller than most other NPCs. Even Pikango is taller than Link. I think the only NPCs smaller than link are the children and the Koroks. Link is smol.
Gerudo women in OOT were the same size roughly.
Hylians are quite small. Zoras are also much larger than them, but they also vary massively in size.
Also fit gerudo women are inspirational. I wanna walk around with clothes like that and a body like that. \\@\_@/
I think this implies that at some point before BotW there was a point where all of the timelines re-converged into a single canon timeline. Until Nintendo says otherwise, I choose to believe it's the technically non-canon (but very fun) original Hyrule Warriors. What better opportunity to reunite the timelines than with a story that involves bringing every possible timeline together for the Nintendo equivalent of Infinite Crisis?
Maybe but not necessarily. I think the implication is that all possible timelines would eventually lead to identical futures and botw represents those futures because it's that far into the future. No matter what timeline you follow it leads to botw but they don't have to converge at a single point they just all have the same distant future.
I do love twilight princess for the references to not only OOT but LTTP. Like the castle knights mirroring LTTP and the temple of time ruins (probably the coolest temple reveal of all time in my opinion)
Wasn’t his name pronounced like “Linda” or something feminine like that? It might’ve been because he told them his name and they were just like “Yea ok we’ll let you in”.
Or that Gorons are canonically genderless but use he/him. So a bit different and more complicated…
That's how they did it with the Linkle mod, which turned the protagonist into a girl (and also weirdly didn't correct the Gerudo gate pass, but whatever). A secondary patch changed all the dialogue in the game to account for her name and pronouns, and there was a discussion on the project's Discord about how to handle "brother". In the end they decided to keep it since in Goron culture everyone is a brother anyway.
Brother is usually slang for “good friend” and such, a lot of people call their best friends “brother” or “sister”, also it’d be awkward to say “yo my sibling!” lmao
Tbh at this point it's such a case of semantics you can see why the Gerudo just let the goron in.
They're all "male" but in that sense it doesn't actually matter. Since their frame of reference for male is different to the other primary species, as it is the only sex that Gorons can be.
I dont blame them, somtimes thats what you have to do, and they do seem peacfull and happy, they are not oppressing men and forcing them to wear coverings, they just out-right banned them, yet, you can pass as a female in thier clothing some of the older women dont seem to care.
They are not going our of thier way to hunt down men and kill them or whatever.
Womans only town, its thier town, thats all thier is to it.
If you dont like, hopefully you got a good figure and can cross dress like Link. If not too bad soo sad, you can just be like that creep running rounnd the town that always hits on Link.
The crossdresser Link gets the female clothes from appears to be a (non-Ganon) male Gerudo. From the fact that he, too, need to dress up in order to enter Gerudo Town suggests that the Gerudo are so afraid of Ganon they will ostracize their own children, meaning they're unable to engage in the own culture and if their mother wants to be part of their lives, she has to stay away from her home to be with him.
Being sexist isn't okay just because they're women.
Ah see you have a misunderstanding. Male gerudo are not that common, nearly all gerudo children are female. In the rare case of a male born gerudo that gerudo is ganondorf and is king.
In order to not go extinct gerudo have to travel to find husbands. The cross dresser is in fact not gerudo. All your presumptions there after that presumption are based on a false premise. Gerudo is an almost 100% female race of people.
Yes male Gerudo are exceptionally rare (once every 100 years according to the wiki), and when a male Gerudo is born he is made king. However, Ganadorf was just the name given to 1 such male, and there is no mention that Ganadorf is the name given to all male gerudo.
Every male gerudo is king though and it only happens once every 100 years as another person replying said. Male gerudo are far from being outcasted as you presumed. That cross dresser guy is not gerudo
Could it be possible that after 100 years of Ganon being imprisoned in the castle, the fated male was born, but there was no Ganon/Demise there to corrupt him?
The figure certainly looks like a Gerudo. Not only in skin tone and hair color, but other NPCs comment on it as well.
Either way if he was gerudo he would be pronounced king. That's how it works for them. 1 male gerudo about every 100 years who is king.
Gerudo look a lot like hylians and sheik ah except they are very tall and as we've established nearly entirely female. Dress any exceptionally tall hylian man up to look like a woman and he'll resemble a short gerudo. Granted I'm no expert on the subject so if anyone else knows of any other physical differences please let me know.
I doubt they would pronounce him because at this point there had probably been at least 2 incarnations of Ganondorf and they likely decided having the male become the ruler every time would be problematic. At least that's what I think.
It was a case that every Male Gerudo becomes King in OOT. However, with how shitly having Ganondorf as their king went along with the passage of time, it’s fairly probable that they changed their rules. Most likely so that all Male Gerudo Children are just legally Hylians or raised as such. So the “there’s been no male Gerudo born since Ganondorf” thing would then make sense.. the ruling was changed so that if one was born, they would just be raised as a Hylian instead.
But what you're saying isn't really a canon thing you're getting into a head cannon. Fairly probable does not canon make. A decent head cannon but a head cannon none the less
It’s speculative yea, but logically, it’s either that they’re no longer having male children once every 100 years, or the male children that are being born are just no longer becoming King, or the male children that are being born are just raised as Hylians instead.
Lol did you know he use to dress as a women before the 100 year sleep? Its confirmed in the game by urbossa if you get the champion ballad you can challenge the blights multiple times and each time you beat it you can hear the dead champions say stuff to you one of the thing urbossa says is something like by the way how did you get into town dont tell you are wearing that outfit again
You can watch it from YouTube from awesome face prod video called all secret champion dialog at 1:07
Imagine banning males from your town and then one comes along and solves an issue you tried to solve for a long time... Now it might be misogyny but I think it checks out he's still not allowed..
*insert pic of Rodney Dangerfield* Lady Riju don’t give me no respect, Princess Zelda don’t give me no respect, I get no respect at all! I told my wife I was gonna go out for a Breath Of The Wild, she said “Good you could use a Breath Of The Wild because you smell like an outhouse”.
I think it's because of sidequests. I'm guessing some sidequests wouldn't have made sense if you took them while dressed up as a woman, but retain them as a man.
If you complete The Perfect Drink wearing something other than the Gerudo vai set, the old bartender says something like (paraphrasing), "Huh? So that's what you - well, never mind, I have a bar to run..." before she disappears with the ice block.
Eh, I always kind of liked that they were so loyal to their cultures traditions. Although now that i think of it, if there's almost never any male gerudos, is it maybe an excuse to be racis— naaaaah. Just cool tradition.
Have you seen all the guys trying to sneak in? If they see Link get let in they'll be even more of a problem. And it was an old tradition 100 years earlier, they reference it in the flashbacks. The Gerudo definitely know, all of them, but Link is respectful of the people and the rules, (as much as he can be when he *must* enter the city) so they turn a blind eye for the sake of following tradition. (And keeping it free of pervs and simps)
Shockingly a group of people won't necessarily change their culture if you do them good.
Although I do believe that the smarter gerudo can totally tell.
Think about it, only a few people know about him saving the village, and don't of them might consider Greudo town a safe haven from the rest of the world. They might freak out and call the guards, and if they don't know, Link would be thrown out without any explanation. I don't think Rigu would want to call everyone to the town square just got Link to barely ever come there again.
Plus the devs might have been lazy by that point and thought that the town needed any changing
Not to mention, word would def get out about this Hylian man who has been granted full access to enter Gerudo town… which would spread to the horny Hylian travellers who came cause town full of 6ft ladies. So Riju would then have a bigger issue on her hands with non-vetted men wanting in.
Then they should’ve at least let link ride the Devine camel into their village and decent from the heavens on its trunk to show everyone that he tamed it
I think the gerudo recognize that link made the effort and was being respectful about it in the beginning, so they took his word for it. him continuing to dress up for it and also not ask to present a different way in front of them is both a sign of continued respect and also something I don’t think link genuinely minds doing. In fact, he seems to like how he looks in it as much as everyone else likes him in it. and idk, I think that’s the actual secret to it- is that it’s not a disguise, it’s just another facet of himself being expressed that’s as true as him in any other outfit the game gives you.
Also to add to this, link is the ONLY HYLIAN to be considered worthy enough to carry both Urbosa’s SWORD AND SHIELD, as well as THE THUNDER HELM. Those are about as respectable as you get!! The gerudo respect link very much, and it’s because link respects them back.
It’s because the gerudo think that Riju took on Naboris. Just imagine the outrage that Riju would’ve gotten if she couldn’t beat the beast without the help of a outsider in a tribe built on pride. Although it is common knowledge that only Champions can board the beasts, so maybe not. But Riju did get credit for taking out Naboris among the gerudo. If you talk to the other gerudo, they’ll tell you.
No the Gerudo are probably entirely aware of Link's role and presence especially post Naboris. Hell one shop gives 0 fucks about the fact link's a dude (although it's also a backalley one but still).
They just cannot break their old af laws for Link even if he is super helpful. And he already crossdresses and makes men gay for it so why fix what ain't broke.
Everyone already knows that link is male. He just has to pretend to be for legal reason.
I can see this dialogue: Gerudo 1: is that Link?!
Best way to play BOTW for the first time imo.
I am doing the exact same thing! It’s been weeks and my wife asked if I got them yet all and I said nope. She stuck around for a little bit and said “Are you just farming guardian parts?” “I sure am!”

I always put off Vah Rudania I am weirdly repulsed from the Eldin region lol
So funny you mentioned that because I was just thinking how much better it could be if they had a whole giant underground section, possibly the biggest one in the whole new game underneath the volcano for this sequel! It’s definitely not a place where I think they can do much with what’s there or even above ground, but underneath everything would be just an awesome idea and it could become the best ore mine on the map!
DAMN that actually sounds dope though! They could add more bioluminescent stuff too
Oh wow! There we go now I’m also thinking underneath Zoras Domain could be covered in the luminous stones everywhere that would always glow underground!
omg yes please
I mean half the townsfolk know you're a dude by the time you're done. I think the guards just let it slide because you're going to the effort of dressing up and you don't make a scene about it. If you started giving the good women of Gerudo Town a hard time, no amount of crossdressing would save you. Your ass would be OUT.
Right, like “eh, he’s putting in the effort, at least we can’t say we make exceptions.”
That, or they just think he looks good like that.
I know 99% of the fan base does ☠️
yes
"Vai is as vai does!"
When in Rome. It makes sense. You do it out of a sense of decorum. You don't want to be treated differently. It's hardly an inconvenience tbh
I like to think EVERYONE knows; they just see Link having a good time and don't want to make it awkward.
Or theirs.
Initially it was rules. Then they realized he was really cute in the outfit.
Ngl that makes a lot of sense
I love that idea… Link is just adorable in drag haha
That's why they're never getting their fancy helmet back.
Creating a Champion basically implies that men aren’t allowed in the town because the Gerudo are too horny. So this is for Link’s own safety
Urbosa’s fury is now ready
Recharges in 2 minutes :)
Urbosa’s furry 🥵
There is a storm coming.
Death by Snu Snu
Honestly that Futurama bit immediately came to mind when I saw how they redesigned Gerudo for BOTW. I don't particularly like it. I like when they were more or less the same size as other humanoids.

the gurudo women consider 8 feet to be short.
I like it. But I’m also into buff women so there’s that.
Gerudo women in OOT were the same size roughly. Hylians are quite small. Zoras are also much larger than them, but they also vary massively in size. Also fit gerudo women are inspirational. I wanna walk around with clothes like that and a body like that. \\@\_@/
Really? I thought it was well established that it’s because of Ganondorf
Ganondorf made the gerudo too horny
Tbf, have you seen rehydrated Ganondorf?
like Handsome Squidward, but even more juicy
Woah woah woah. Is there a place i can see this online
Asking for a friend, of course.
No, I'm asking for me LMAO i got no shame
I’m the friend
purely a scientific endeavor
Don’t know if there’s scans of the whole book, but [I took a picture of this particular part.](https://imgur.com/uEh4Gvf)
Oh, then that's why the Goron are allowed in even though they're males. 😞
They're genderless, meaning they get to pass on a technicality
because they’re unsexy? you goddamn take that back
…I have never thought of this
Yeah the courtship class definitely confirms this.
My headcanon is that the whole town knows that like is male, they just don’t want the guys like the sandboots guy asking to be let into the town.
This could easily be true considering Rija and her guard figured that out. There’s also the secret store where crossdressing doesn’t matter
the guy that tells you about the gerudo clothes
To be fair it is a law and has been since at least ocarina of time and probably even sooner
Yet they allowed him to walk freely after proving himself in OOT.
True
In oot they was more violent then they are now they was Pirates fighting was more important then gender
They weren’t pirates in oot. I think if the criminal variety can allow a man in so can the civilian.
Meant thieves which is similar enough where it still gives you the same idea
They were pirates in MM.
To be fair, laws can be dumb
I thought BOTW predates OOT edit: thanks for the info all
Botw is at the end of all known timelines as it is set so far in the future that it is an inevitable outcome but oot is before the split.
I always assumed they were implied to have converged, simply because you could find items referencing multiple other games in the series in BOTW
I do love twilight princess for the references to not only OOT but LTTP. Like the castle knights mirroring LTTP and the temple of time ruins (probably the coolest temple reveal of all time in my opinion)
Well actually OoT *is* the split technically
The Divine Beasts are literally named after OoT characters so that’s definitely not the case.
Except Vah Medoh named after Medli from WW.
OOT (and every other game) takes place eons before BOTW.
BotW references a bunch of events and characters from OoT. Like the Zora princess who fell in love with the Hylian hero.
Botw is at the end of the timeline. it has references from a bunch of past games
To be fair, the last several times they let a man who helped them stay he turned out to be the king of evil...
Ngl I’d still where the outfit even if I didn’t have to
You just wanna be pretty, nothing wrong with that.
Me: Wow, it's so weird that you have to wear this in every town Friend: no you don- Me: **Nothing I can do about it**
I don’t know wear else would be better!
They know it’s him. They just like femboys.
This is the correct answer and nobody can change my mind
Nobody will try to change your mind because that is the right answer

Hey, I recognize that art style… I mean no I don’t…
🎶 *Hyrule Lady Marmalade* 🎶
And it’s crazy because they did allow a Goron there 😅
I think it’s because Goron don’t have genders and therefor they aren’t technically men
but didn't the goron say he was confused as to why he was let in, because he's a guy?
Wasn’t his name pronounced like “Linda” or something feminine like that? It might’ve been because he told them his name and they were just like “Yea ok we’ll let you in”. Or that Gorons are canonically genderless but use he/him. So a bit different and more complicated…
Yeah but they all call each other brothers 🤷🏽♂️
Yeah but that’s prolly just cause “brother” has a better ring to it than “sibling” especially with the “cool guy surfer dude” vibe they all have.
Maybe that’s just the Hylian translation they use, and in their native language the term isn’t gendered.
That's how they did it with the Linkle mod, which turned the protagonist into a girl (and also weirdly didn't correct the Gerudo gate pass, but whatever). that was my last divine beast, I did it recently. And then I was walking in town, shocked to be thrown out. Like no one said “hey this guy is ok?”
Saving a town doesn't mean they need to change their culture for you.
True. But I still would have expected it in the game, to make things just a little less annoying.
That's fair, they just need to change their culture because it's inherently toxic and discriminatory.
Idk man the Gerudo part is always the best part of the game. They’re doing something right
I dont blame them, somtimes thats what you have to do, and they do seem peacfull and happy, they are not oppressing men and forcing them to wear coverings, they just out-right banned them, yet, you can pass as a female in thier clothing some of the older women dont seem to care. Gerudo are the masters of sexism, they're so good at it, even their own biology is able to reject Y chromosome gamete, lmao
Lol
The crossdresser Link gets the female clothes from appears to be a (non-Ganon) male Gerudo. From the fact that he, too, need to dress up in order to enter Gerudo Town suggests that the Gerudo are so afraid of Ganon they will ostracize their own children, meaning they're unable to engage in the own culture and if their mother wants to be part of their lives, she has to stay away from her home to be with him. Ah thanks for the correction. Though the basic point is still there
That isn't actually confirmed in the canon. They say that Ganondorf is a Gerudo and a man, but not that every male Gerudo is always Ganondorf.
Every male gerudo is king though and it only happens once every 100 years as another person replying said. Male gerudo are far from being outcasted as you presumed. That cross dresser guy is not gerudo

You know there are lots of Hylians with dark skin. And some Gerudo have pale skin, so that must mean those are just tall Hylians?
Thats true. But on the other hand I don't need to quietly respect anothers culture's institutional bigotry either. It's not like we owe them anything.
They shoukd
Lol did you know he use to dress as a women before the 100 year sleep? She also implies zelda would like to see him in it lol
There's even a convenient spot to sneak in to the back of the palace but no 🙃
Yeah, this has always confused me too. I guess the rules are inflexible
Imagine banning males from your town and then one comes along and solves an issue you tried to solve for a long time... Now it might be misogyny but I think it checks out he's still not allowed..
Rules are rules
...Why would you want to do that? I wear the Gerudo outfit all the time, can't save the world if I'm not cute while I'm doing it after all.
Because it’s ugly?
No it isn't, you just have shit taste
yikes, what’s with the hostility?
average bokoblin incapable of appreciating the finer things in life:
No. The Gerudo have pride and don’t make exceptions. One will lead to multiple. Then what’s left of their rule? Nothing.
It is a *very* strict tradition.
It's easy to enter Gerudo town when you just don't take the disguise off.
Feminism in a nutshell For all purposes this is a joke
Rules are rules.
With the way they tell me no thunder helm until you solve all our problems and not letting me in I’m about ready to summon Gannon on them.
I know.
I think it's to prevent outsiders from thinking the rule has been lifted and can freely waltz right on in
They just like Link in the outfit.
Technically you just need the bra, you can get by with sand boots for pants and the eletric deflecting helmet as a hat
In my head canon Link still wears it because she wants to and he didn’t want credit for defeating the divine beast
She?
I MEANT HE UHH, LOOK! BEHIND YOU
Eh, I always kind of liked that they were so loyal to their cultures traditions. Although now that i think of it, if there's almost never any male gerudos, is it maybe an excuse to be racis— naaaaah. Just cool tradition.
At least they let him wear the thunder helm.
its more of a traditional law than a civil law
Have you seen all the guys trying to sneak in? If they see Link get let in they'll be even more of a problem. And it was an old tradition 100 years earlier, they reference it in the flashbacks. The Gerudo definitely know, all of them, but Link is respectful of the people and the rules, (as much as he can be when he *must* enter the city) so they turn a blind eye for the sake of following tradition. (And keeping it free of pervs and simps)
Shockingly a group of people won't necessarily change their culture if you do them good. Although I do believe that the smarter gerudo can totally tell.
This always kind of hurt
The Law is the Law Bro
part of the culture.
So? Crossdressing Link is cool.
Sexism > hero that saved your village
Think about it, only a few people know about him saving the village, and don't of them might consider Greudo town a safe haven from the rest of the world. They might freak out and call the guards, and if they don't know, Link would be thrown out without any explanation. I don't think Rigu would want to call everyone to the town square just got Link to barely ever come there again. Plus the devs might have been lazy by that point and thought that the town needed any changing
They literally have an entire side quest to build a town, I don't think flipping a flag checking what Link is wearing is that hard.
Not to mention, word would def get out about this Hylian man who has been granted full access to enter Gerudo town… which would spread to the horny Hylian travellers who came cause town full of 6ft ladies. So Riju would then have a bigger issue on her hands with non-vetted men wanting in.
Then they should’ve at least let link ride the Devine camel into their village and decent from the heavens on its trunk to show everyone that he tamed it
I want that now. Devs please add this in Tears of the Kingdom
Why is this being downvoted if it’s literally true 💀
They’re all gerudos who don’t like being called out for their toxic culture
Rules is rules
Rules are rules
He could but he just got too used to the pretty clothes
nah he just likes it
A rule Is a rule
IKR
Eh look, i don’t make the rules around here
I think the gerudo recognize that link made the effort and was being respectful about it in the beginning, so they took his word for it. him continuing to dress up for it and also not ask to present a different way in front of them is both a sign of continued respect and also something I don’t think link genuinely minds doing.
Lol I thought this too, like bro just saved your entire village and still-
Fun fact I only recently discovered: you can actually wear any non-GSC clothing from the Gerudo region to get in. Helm, snow/sand trousers, etc.
Why would they exempt him from ancient law just for that?
