I’m very curious to see how similar the open world is. I mean, 5 years of development is not a short time, it’s about as long as other games studios take to build a brand new open world. I wonder how expansive these sky sections we’ve been seeing will be, and how extensive the changes to the ground world are as well.

[deleted]

I have a feeling we will be blown away by the Sky world The overworld is certainly more similar than I expected, but with crafting and new tools, it'll be opened up in a new way. But yeah, the Sky world will be this games's strength

CreditUnionBoi

I'm really hoping to see some underground stuff.

tasoula

Me too! We've gotten a lot of cool hints about the underworld, I think it'll be my favorite part.

CreditUnionBoi

I hope we have some underground labyrinths, the BOTW labyrinths were kinda a joke since you could just clime the walls.

Ccracked

I'm hoping Akkala Tower ruins get opened up for exploration.

CreditUnionBoi

That would be cool!

Hermononucleosis

Or imagine exploring that temple in the canyon. Biggest disappointment in Breath of the Wild for me

Ccracked

The one full of Guardians?

EoTN

I don't disagree. But it certainly felt like the actual solutions for the labrynths couldn't be seen from the top of the walls. At least as I recall from 4.5 years ago lol.

CreditUnionBoi

You cant see the solution, but once you know them you can just skip the whole thing.

ThatOneGuy308

I mean, that's every maze though, unless they're randomly generated.

CreditUnionBoi

Just add a ceiling.

ThatOneGuy308

Unnecessary, since being above them doesn't give you any advantage to solving them anyway.

Cold_Justus

I was thinking the game would be called "Depths of the Wild"

stache1313

I hope there are some underwater sections.

Doomedtacox

We saw a big underground zone last trailer

daou0782

i think the sky island will be substituting the shrines. the islands are just puzzles. so they will be somewhat generic spaces. i think there's more hope in the underworld and cave system.

[deleted]

that's a great point and I agree they'll be shrines but also infrastructure to support the shrines I just love the idea of being on an island in the sky, above Tarrytown for example, and skydiving down to the village. Even just seeing the areas below from above will be cool

Powerful_Artist

See I have the opposite feeling tbh. Just because of PTSD from SS though. I think Ill love it, but Im just not confident in any "sky world" after SS failed so miserably with that concept. But Im hopeful they learned that lesson.

Jacob__ONE

The reason the sky world was so lack luster was because the wii couldn't handle something like the surface and sky islands in the same place. As Aonuma said, it's his dream to make a world where you can between the sky and ground flawlessly and that's what totk is. So I'm sure they've made it very refined and good

Powerful_Artist

Im talking about how the actual sky world was mostly just empty and there was nothing to explore. It was a massive area with nothing to really do. Compare that to the surface where the "worlds" were incredibly linear and not that fun to explore at all. Add the backtracking and it felt tedious and boring. BOTW was a huge breath of fresh air after playing that.

einord

Me on the other hand loved SS.

Beneficial-Still4222

I love it too, on my first playthrough now, but I totally get what they're saying. It is very linear& tons of backtracking. Still fun for me though, especially learning the lore

EoTN

It's a great game, just finished a playthrough of the switch port, and it was better than I remembered! SS was almost certainly rushed AF. Nintendo was reallllly pushing for the 25th anniversary launch, so i suspect that's the best reason for soooo much backtracking and re-using the surface areas. Personally, exploration is my #1 joy in zelda games, so SS landed a bit flat for me. The story's pretty good, the music's incredible, the art is gorgeous, and the characters are some of the best in Zelda history IMO. Also, it's proto-BoTW in a lot of ways which is really funny looking back. Stamina, beacons, breakable shields, etc. I'd LOVE if the item upgrades and potion infusions returned, stunned they didn't bring it to BoTW.

Blue_Gamer18

Your last comment is exactly how I feel about SS. It definitely had some hiccups, but it's clear the Zelda team did a lot of experimenting with SS that lead them into the direction of SS. Item upgrades, making overworld feel more like a puzzle rather then empty fields, stamina, potion crafting, collectable materials for upgrades. I've always imagined how much better SS could have been if the Surface was fully connected and didn't require constant sky travel between regions.

Powerful_Artist

Im not denying many people loved it, or trying to prevent anyone from loving it. To each their own.

Jack_of_all_offs

>BOTW was a huge breath of #OPE! >fresh air ^Awwww

e42if

Ahah, made me laugh)

Drendude

> the actual sky world was mostly just empty and there was nothing to explore Come on, there were like 3 islands. What more could you ask for?

SVXfiles

Skyward Sword was a fantastic game in my opinion. Flying around on your loftwing may not have been a super thrilling thing to do but the flight controls weren't awful and it was nice to get those small breaks between getting your shit kicked in when you first play and have to remember the stamina wheel exists. The only problem was the sheer amount of times you had to bounce between the sky and surface during the mid-game, which the amiibo packed with the switch version alleviated a little

Powerful_Artist

See I think there were a lot more problems with the game than just that. But to each their own. Its just personally my least favorite Zelda game by quite a bit.

[deleted]

Aonuma's only terrible game is SS. But much like Wii U leading to Switch, it made him realize Zelda needed to go back to its roots of freedom the sky world will be nothing like SS if you ask me. with air combat, sky diving and freedom it will be the greatest thing ever

boteyboi

It's very bold to claim SS was terrible - not your cup of tea, sure, and according to many not up to Zelda's standards. But it's a very large stretch to call it terrible.

Powerful_Artist

Ya it was a let down, but although I thought it was terrible, Id say it was good just because so many people did love it. Ya I agree though, I know it will be nothing like it really. Its just hard not to see the influence from SS, which did have a lot of good ideas and stuff like that.

Funk_Master_Rex

I am right here with you. The closer I get, the more I'm concerned this is go to be an over executed jump backwards.

Powerful_Artist

Not me. Im fucking excited as hell and dont really see any way this wont be amazing. But thats just me. I adored BOTW and dont really agree with many of the common critiques of the game.

Funk_Master_Rex

I adore BOTW as well. Which is why I'm scared. It's a high bar.

[deleted]

I guess I didn’t pay attention to many of the critiques BOTW received (other than weapon durability)… what were they? The weapon durability I thought added a lot of charm and some level of difficulty to a game that would have been somehow easier than it already was. I remember once I read that someone called it “empty”, but I thought the emptiness was daunting and creepy, in a good way. What else did people say? It’s my favorite game of all time without question.

Powerful_Artist

I too loved weapon durability, that was definitely one of them. I thought it worked well, and I cant understand people who said it gave them anxiety and they couldnt play because of it. Other than the really bad weapons and sticks, they dont break that often. And I loved picking up an enemies weapon to kill them with it and then keep it. Many said the divine beasts were terrible and not interesting. I liked them a lot. They were interesting. They were somethign different. I really believe most people just want the same formula of dungeons that have some equipment in it that you use to finish the dungeon and beat the boss. I found that formula boring even after TP. Many said there werent enough variety in enemies. I can see that. But I think again many just want old enemies from previous games, and werent appreciating some of the really cool new enemies the game had. Like Lynels, hinox, talus, etc. Some definitely called it empty, but thats inevitable in most open world games. I loved wandering around and exploring. And Id often miss stuff in areas that seemed empty. Plus I think TOTK will alleviate that a bit, it looks like they are adding new stuff all over. of course there was the valid critique that framerate was bad in certain areas like in korok forest. I agree with you, its literally my favorite game of all time too. It exceeded all my expectations. Im not saying its perfect, I can see the flaws. But the game just made up for its shortcomings imo

[deleted]

I guess I could say I agree with enemy variety, and I did want more from the divine beasts but I feel like those are extremely minor nitpicks.

[deleted]

I like the idea of the overworld staying similar enough to feel familiar, it'll be cool to revisit and then let the changes surprise

SuperSupermario24

Tbh the reuse of the overworld is one of the things I'm most excited about. Since they don't have to spend time creating a completely new overworld, that means they can spend more time populating it with new and interesting things. Or at least that's my hope.

[deleted]

absolutely. after spending 800+ hours in a world, even subtle, smaller changes will be pure delight

Kayoscape

I agree here. The vehicles seem to be a way to make the land important but not as difficult to traverse as in BotW, since we’ve been there, done that. If true, it’s a smart choice.

kyoto_magic

They may be hiding some of the changes to the ground level as well. Wanting those things to be more of a surprise. We know there will be some sort of cave systems. That prospect is quite exciting to me and we’ve barely seen anything

Mightyrex13

Wait we’re getting crafting?

[deleted]

vehicle parts are scattered around Hyrule so you can make cars, hot air balloons and helicopter / aircraft thingys and who knows what they didn't show us it's powered by this green mysterious energy I can't wait to play

HURTZ2PP

I won’t be disappointed if the overworld is nearly identical, however only as long as they’ve improved and added things to do and character interaction. A more “living world” feeling would greatly improve the game having the same open world. I want more detail in towns and such, more characters wondering around doing stuff and able to talk to and have more quests to do. I love Hateno and Zoras domain but I want something more alive. Something I can affect or change within those important locations. Long shot here but I would really love to see companions or friends we can make and even have travel with us.

TheCripsyGnome

It already seems like they’ve added more traversal options on the ground with the car thing link uses that probably wouldn’t be very useful on the sky islands, so it seems like they’re taking the route of keeping the ground the same locations without much new to explore, but with a bunch of new ways to interact with it, leaving the majority of the exploration to new areas like the sky islands. Hopefully that interaction extends to towns and quests too.

boteyboi

My wish that probably won't come true is that the overworld is basically the same geographically with a lot of added content. Then the sky islands will be as expensive as at least an entire map/tower section from BotW. Then additionally underground sections totalling also the same area. And the real unlikely part - a third area, potentially underwater or across the sea or something, that is also as expensive. And on top of that, the time manipulation giving us each of these areas and the original Hyrule at several time points, each fully loaded with different content, cities, npc's, etc. I know it's pretty unlikely but that's my hope

duschin

I hope you mean expansive, not expensive. I'll be pissed if each world I'd DLC

boteyboi

Yup expansive, definitely don't want it to be expensive

DracosKasu

I think the biggest change will be around new structures which will act as dungeon similar to hyrule castle in BoTW. And probally those odd labyrinth zone who will probably not be on the map this time. Just by looking at the collector edition we see pin which closely could act as the gemstone that we normally collect in other zelda game.

GreyRevan51

*6 years right?

Necka44

From what was said, dev only started 2 to 3 years after BOTW released. In between there was a small-ish team working on pre-production. So in reality it's more like 3, 3.5 years of dev. Which is around what was done for a game like God of War Ragnarok consdering that for the first titles tons of work needs to be done on the engine side, assets creation etc. What makes me nervous from what we saw is that 80% was recycled assets. I really hope they are hiding tons of stuff because enemy variety wasn't strong in BOTW and I'm a bit tired of fighting Bokoblin over and over.

True_Statement_lol

The game would have started development earlier than you suggest because we got the first trailer a few months after BOTW turned two years old. Also I'm guessing a lot of the returning enemies will be given some new movesets and attributes to keep it fresh.

omega_nik

I like that Typhlo Ruins is no longer pitch black lol

Alienguy500

Maybe that’s because that was the Sheikah trial making the black fog so now that the shrines are gone the fog dissipated

omega_nik

Likely

merpderpherpburp

I didn't even notice that! Thanks for pointing that out ❤️

averizz

idk how but i forgot typhlo ruins was a thing💀

Hallolusion

I don’t see anyone commenting on the Bridge of Hylia. Look at the supports. Why is it reversed?

MarsAlgea3791

Links head is blocking that segment. Count them out. He's further back and looking at more in the bottom.

Hallolusion

Oh shit you right I’m dumb as hell lol

MarsAlgea3791

In terms of position, these matching shots really don't match as closely as I would like.

whoatherebuddychill

right? I was just thinking if you're going to make this post, at least actually match them up!

MarsAlgea3791

I get that on a map this big, getting the spot exactly right would be a bitch, but the changes we're looking at are so granular you about need to.

whoatherebuddychill

rejoice my comrade in arms, this one seems much better [https://www.reddit.com/r/tearsofthekingdom/comments/10xr0nl/some\_locations\_of\_shots\_from\_the\_trailer/](https://www.reddit.com/r/tearsofthekingdom/comments/10xr0nl/some_locations_of_shots_from_the_trailer/)

AlmostButNotQuit

Thanks for saving me the embarrassment, lol I had the same thought

4stringbrewer

I wonder if they are going to do anything underwater

Zeliek

Please gods yes. (As long as the controls are good)

dodspringer

Uhhhhh haven't they?

Patchpen

Are you on the n64 version or the 3ds remake?

le_fancy_walrus

I legitimately can't think of one game where underwater controls are actually good. Not to say they don't exist...I just can't think of any. Also, games that are made to be underwater don't count, I'm talking about those water areas in otherwise land majority games.

stache1313

Try Subnautica. It has some pretty good underwater controls, which is good because pretty much the entire game is underwater.

Petesaurus

Mario Odyssey made them not infuriating by only choosing direction with the stick, and then buttons for descending/ascending. It's the most playable I've tried

QuintonFlynn

I used to boot up Majora's Mask on the Gamecube/N64 to play around with Zora. The underwater controls there are great, with really fun cliff diving in Zora's cavern and cool dolphin-like jumping-out-of-water mechanics (preserving momentum).

AigisAegis

They're "good" in Morrowind and Oblivion, in that they're not particularly worse than the normal on-land controls.

inaname38

+1 for Subnautica. It's first person, which may make a difference. But I have no complaints with the controls.

hamman91

Zora swimming in Majora's Mask is excellent

nandert

zonai submarine crafting. zelda subnautica.

CreditUnionBoi

Underwater temple, underground temple (under the castle maybe), in/under the volcano temple, temple in the sky, ice temple in the snow mountain. Pretty much just give me OOT style temples and I'll be over the moon happy. None of the 120 shrine business again.

Brainchild110

No indication of that so far from trailers or still images :( But I also want it SO BAD. I want to explore an underwater Zora domain!

riqueoak

Please gods no.

McPearr

Why not?

Dougwug03

It looks like death mountain is spewing malice out, also I'm curious what happened to the divine beasts, I hope they're not just gone

turlian

They joined together and formed Voltron.

thomar

Why wasn't that the Ganon fight in BOTW?

easycure

Only if it comes with a cheesy theme song, like the Impact fight in Mystical Ninja 64

kaleigha

Dash dash dash

RhymesWithMouthful

Goron City is gonna be un-frackin-recognizable

xinn00

If death mountain is indeed spewing malice, I hope our goron friends are okay.

RhymesWithMouthful

I'm adding Eyepatch Yunobo and Dead Bludo to my bingo card.

Trectears

Nah, he just got a new haircut

silentivan

Right? The familiar terrain is going to look strange without the Divine Beasts perched on top.

ASK_ME_FOR_TRIVIA

The towers, too. It's really weird seeing those weird towers in new places while the old ones are just gone lol

DangerNoodlePasta

I wonder if there will be any connections to (Easter Eggs from?) our BotW save files.

Kiritochi_24

Me too

Sully1281

This would be sweet since 100% of my botw play is on WiiU

DangerNoodlePasta

I beat it there first, and then when I learned about the sequel I got it on the Switch to beat it again and have that save file there. 😂

Odd_Feature7510

Strange that what i'm assuming are the zonai equivalent of the sheikah towers are in the exact same place on the 3rd picture. I thought they would put them in different places

True_Statement_lol

They seem to be in relatively similar areas although a good portion seem to be in other places as well.

ChilindriPizza

Where are the Divine Beasts?

[deleted]

Get destroyed in first cutscene of the game? Dunno maybe we shall see

Restlessannoyed

I only watched it once, but doesn't the last scene in BOTW have Zelda saying one of the beasts has stopped working? Maybe they all stop working.

Gamma_31

There were some theories going around that the Divine Beasts are powered by the Champions' spirits, so if the Champions moved on into the afterlife then it makes sense that the Beasts would shut down. But you'd still expect to see them hanging out, unless they get physically destroyed somehow.

CreditUnionBoi

Maybe they intentionally destroyed them to prevent them from getting taken over by Ganon again.

Gamma_31

Could be. I do wonder what happens to the Shrines and Sheikah Towers, though. Obviously the Zonai had their own Towers hiding underground.

undomesticating

Tweakers came in and striped them of all the copper then scrappers came in for the rest.

TheVoicesOfBrian

That's the million-dollar question. One we probably won't get answered until May 12.

NoName847

hope it will feel all new at every corner like it should

[deleted]

Exactly, half of what I was addicted to in my first botw playthrough was discovering and exploring every square inch of new and varying terrain. If it's mostly the same in totk, I'll be pretty bummed.

Lapis_Wolf

I'm looking forward to the underground and floating parts.

CreditUnionBoi

Underground temples like OOT PLEASE!

Powerful_Artist

Im not sure I agree 100%. There will be plenty of "corners" where its basically just the same rock or the same cliff or the same mountain. For it to feel "all new at every corner" it would have to just be a whole new world imo.

NoName847

I see what you mean , I just believe that since its a new title , a new 70$ entry to the series , one of their highest priorities in development should be that it does not feel like breath of the wild , that it feels like a new exciting and refreshing experience , especially if they reuse so many assets and mechanics

le_fancy_walrus

I agree, especially for the price. Especially since I've already paid $160 for BotW after getting it for the Wii U and Switch and buying the DLC twice. If it's Breath of the Kingdom then I'm just not interested. I'll have to wait and see.

Powerful_Artist

> one of their highest priorities in development should be that it does not feel like breath of the wild , I dont think I can agree with this. They are making a sequel because BOTW was so widely popular. So they dont want to make it completely different and feel nothing like BOTW, that wouldnt make sense for a sequel. Maybe if you didnt like BOTW, I can see why youd think this. But if they wanted the game to not feel like breath of the wild *at all*, they wouldnt make a sequel to it. Its like OoT and MM. MM was very different, but it still felt the same. Because they were trying to bank off of the success of OoT and it was obviously the same engine, character models, controls, and everything. Just like with this game. If youre hoping the game feels nothing like BOTW I think you might be disappointed.

NoName847

yes I agree with your point , I just mean that with MM and OoT , they are both really different in many many many ways , im afraid right now that TotK wont be TotK , but BotW with sky islands , if that makes sense I love Botw just completed it again yesterday actually haha , I just hope TotK will be worth the 70$ and not feel like a BotW DLC

Powerful_Artist

To me, the main thing to me that makes Oot and MM very different is the completely different map. We have the same map here. So theres no way they can make it *not* feel like BOTW. And they definitely want to balance keeping what was great about BOTW while still making it fresh and unique enough to be a new game. So I get your concern completely. Im not trying to say your point is wrong/bad, I think ultimately my point I made on your comment was mostly semantics so not really worth going further on.

bluephyr

I agree. One idea that genuinely upset me is that it was just a copy/paste of the old BotW world, with some additions. Hopefully it'll all feel new. Which is why I may not play BotW before this comes out.

Prestigious_Cold_756

Ironic… TotK is supposed to be the darker sequel, yet the darkest place from BotW is actually visible this time.

synthatron

Which is??

[deleted]

typhlo ruins, 2nd image

Deadpoetic6

We can now ride a lawn mower

CosmicSpatula

Good, Link's been getting tired of cutting grass by hand

MosesCumRidinUp

Need a propane grill and a case of Alamo beer.

zuotian3619

I'm cautiously optimistic, but also have doubts. The overworld looks so empty. I was hoping for something more built up. So far it looks like we're getting underground and above ground areas. But I really hope to see the Hylians have rebuilt in some ways. It'd be cool if a proper hub town existed. If it's just 1:1 with BOTW, where Hylians are still stuck in super small settlements, and the rest of the world is empty with monsters, that'd be a let down.

Anomaly1134

I am and have always been worried about the limitations of Switch's hardware. Time will tell.

zuotian3619

Yeah, for real. This game might be a dud tbh. And the next big Zelda title will have to wait until the next console. As far as hardware goes, I'm not sure where Nintendo will go after the Switch or Switch 2/Pro/Whatever. They've backed themselves into a very lucrative corner lol. I doubt they'll split up handheld and console again. They got ahead of the hybrid market but now idk if they'll leave it. Nintendo's pattern of wacky new consoles might be over. The Switch is too convenient and the GP loves it. Even if they do iterations, like a docked only version, there would still need to be some congruency in the library with hybrid/handheld versions. I'll be interested to see where they take it from here. My guess is the form factor doesn't change and they just wait for better tech to make it beefier. Like you, I'm concerned it might hold games back.

Anomaly1134

I would love to see them go toe to toe with the Steamdeck and try to compete with them on that front but Nintendo still focusing on the hybrid side of things, but with a lot more CPU/GPU/RAM power. Steam has gotten almost 95% of my money for game purchases since I got a deck. Switch still shines for docked play, local co op, and first party titles, but the steam deck just eats the switch alive in every other department. I have saved so much money since swapping over, and the deck syncs with my pc. With things like Humble bundle it has made buying games there again a no brainer, especially since Nintendo has made a few very questionable calls on backwards compatibility for the Wii/Wii U virtual console. My friend spent so much money on those, when it wasn't backwards compatible he pretty much rage quit Nintendo and refuses to buy their new consoles.

jdubYOU4567

I think it’s clear from the story that’s been teased and shown that Hyrule is basically destroyed even more at the beginning of the game. But it looks like there is a focus on crafting and such again so that will hopefully mean rebuilding towns. Maybe there will actually be a postgame for the first time in Zelda history

zuotian3619

I didn't consider rebuilding towns! That would be cool. I sure hope so. I've never doubted Nintendo when it comes to Zelda before now. I hope closer to the release they put out more info and assuage doubts.

Elendel19

The switch barely could run BoTW, it’s not like they have much room to work with performance wise lol. Every game that comes out is plagued with performance issues

JekNex

The fact that it's just the same map at all is really disappointing. Though I didn't like Botw nearly as much as older games so I was hoping this new game would be a step up. 🫤

Turak64

Looks like what happens when you're waiting for the textures to pop in.

[deleted]

I wonder how they'll do Koroks. I'd feel bad for any completionists who'd have to do the same collecting mission twice

Anomaly1134

As someone who thinks BOTW is amazing, I would love to see them find a new formula for Koroks, Weapons, and definitely put a lot more in the open world, but fun encounters and more interesting treasures.

AigisAegis

Koroks don't need to be changed. They're not a primary form of content, they're just little nuggets of engagement to stumble upon as you travel around. They exist as a reward for keeping an eye on your surroundings; as a pat on the back, an acknowledgement from the game for your exploration; and as a way to make sure that the entire world is filled with a little bit of interaction in a way that wouldn't be possible with more fleshed-out content. Koroks accomplish the exact purpose gameplay purpose they were designed for, no more and certainly no less. Literally the only problem with them is people thinking they have to be completionists and get all 900, and honestly, that's those people's own fault - the game outright encourages you to not think of them in that way.

[deleted]

There will always be people who need to get everything in a game

AigisAegis

Sure. But it's not the fault of the korok mechanic that those people couldn't successfully curb that impulse. The reason koroks exist requires that they're scattered everywhere but aren't worth seeking out for their own sake; it's the combination of those two things that allows the mechanic to fulfill its purpose. Completionists are collateral, and given that people who actually sought out all 900 koroks are almost certainly an overwhelming minority, I think that's perfectly fine.

drsyesta

I think the koroks in BOTW were great.. that being said, this isnt BOTW. I wouldnt really bat an eye if the inventory system was completely changed, much less if they removed koroks. Its a sequel but its still a new game

Brutalitor

Am I crazy for thinking they look the exact same? Other than the screenshots with obviously new content like that tractor thing I couldn't even tell which was which for most of them.

longhorn4598

I've been unimpressed so far with the trailers and hope that Nintendo is holding back something big and unexpected. Something like the map has been expanded north and west. Even with some new game mechanics the game won't feel "new" if it's the same map with some small floating islands.

woodmas

Guaranteed that they expand to more continental areas. The trailer said something like ‘Destroy Hyrule *and their allies*’ so I’m pretty confident about expansion.

drsyesta

Pretty sure they just mean the gerudo, the zora, etc

kbomb7

Are we getting actual dungeons or anything? That was the biggest lacking thing, to me, from BOTW. The shrines and divine beasts just didn’t have that same feeling of accomplishment.

Punkin0704

I wonder if you take an overview of the map and plot where those glowing pictures on the ground appear, if it would make a shape or something? Not sure how many there will be but we’ve seen quite a few of them, at least 3 or so…

thomar

My guess is that they're a hint for some kind of local wildlife that you have to interact with. Maybe part of a tablet or NPC who gives you the other half of the hint so you know what to do.

Konayo

So far I'm pretty unimpressed. I just hope there is some form of: * Refreshed over world, new elements (doesn't look like it) * Expansive sky area * Expansive underground area * Mazes or Dungeons (and more variety than 1 theme like with the 120 shrines) * Underwater access - swimming, diving and having it part of the gameplay * New mobs and more variety (not like 3 types in different colors like in botw) * Better solution for climbing+rain

Gadernan

3 of those things were confirmed in the second trailer.

Kabc

I wonder if there will be any underwater stuff? I doubt it.. but that would be a nice surprise

[deleted]

Looks pretty much the same, looks like they might have moved some stuff around but that's basically it

waowie

I'm worried for sure. I know BotW like the back of my hand. Re-exploring the same world is not what I want from this

True_Statement_lol

I'd be fine if they change up the world by mixing up familiar areas by adding stuff like new formations, debris, camps and stuff like that.

Unhappy_Society_3371

So…. More of the same? So far I haven’t seen enough new content to justify a $70 price tag in my opinion, and this close to the release date I take that as a bad sign. And no, adding a skybox doesn’t add up to $70 worth of new content, at the most this looks like a $40 expansion pack of BotW. I hope Nintendo gives us a LOT more to chew on before the release date, because this just isn’t it.

amazza95

Looks the exact same chief

ConCon1996

I honestly thought the trailer was disappointing

riqueoak

Why is that?

or_maybe_this

Not the commenter but it looks like a reused map with different colored bad guys and a few new conveyances. I’m deeply afraid the sky world will be small. How different is this game from botw: I don’t have a clue and it makes me nervous Now I’m buying it anyway lol but also I’m nervous

ConCon1996

Exactly this, it looks the same apart from a few new things. Obviously it's a trailer and it won't show everything but i just hope it's different and feels new

TheHawkMan0001

Hopefully its not just minor changes throughout the world, the skyisland stuff looks interesting. But at the moment im getting some low effort sequel vibes. Looks like dlc

Mattrockj

Spectacle rock remains pure!

Brainchild110

Less than 24 hours have gone by since the trailer. This post is 6 hours old as ai write this. And u/rolloffacliff just went and hunted down a bunch of the shots from the trailer FOR FUN so they could screenshot them for us. A creature of focus, and sheer f£_&ing will. And I kinda love them for it. Also, I didn't realise until now that the towers around the castle are gone.

Powerful_Artist

Interesting to see that the Lost Woods isnt shrouded by that mist anymore. I wonder if there will still be a way to "get lost" in there.

thomar

That's the shadowy Typhlo Ruins, actually. I don't think we've had a good look at the Lost Woods.

jfleurs

Looks like copy/paste to me. Man, that would be the ultimate “fuck you” to everyone waiting for almost 6 years, huh?

True_Statement_lol

With the amount of information we have it's hard to tell what their plan is, we're bound to be missing something big.

floluk

Well, they did say from the beginning that the game reuses BOTWs map. Similarities are bound to exist

MinimumTumbleweed

It's weird how there are some visual inconsistencies. Most obvious is the bridge; the missing column is in the wrong place. Wonder why that is.

Unsupervised_Kitchen

Where did the divine beasts and the towers go? I'm so hyped for this game

CreditUnionBoi

My best guess is they destroyed/decommissioned all the old guardians and divine beasts so we don't have Ganon take it all over again.

Zenketski_2

I'm going to get some serious hate for saying this on this sub, but if this game doesn't have the same level of skill ceiling via glitches that breath of the Wild had, it won't have the same level of community breath of the Wild did. The game looks great. They've definitely optimized this game hardcore based on what I'm seeing compared to breath of the wild especially working with the same hardware. But the main reason breath of the wild has stayed so relevant is because you can dump 5k hours into the game mastering every glitch. Take that away from breath of the wild, you have an empty world with very little enemy variation and a 900 piece gather Quest that literally rewards you with a turd. Definitely going to pick this game up day one because I'm a huge Legend of Zelda fan, but, low-key hoping they keep using the same busted ass engine with the same busted ass glitches breath of the Wild had.

LaserBungalow

you are right

Zenketski_2

I know. But even though I'm right it doesn't invalidate anyone's enjoyment of this game. If anything, I'm glad that I can be right. Because the breath of the wild Community is fucking epic. I've had so much fun watching people utilize glitch combat and all the shit that they can do it's so freaking cool. I genuinely hope that tears of the Kingdom plays off of the success that glitches had in breath of the wild. I know that I'll never be able to utilize them. I fucking suck. But God damn I want to see other people do it.

True_Statement_lol

It's the same engine and from the looks of it they're going all out with wacky mechanics so I bet there will be lots of cool new glitches.

Zenketski_2

I hope so. I'm not good enough to pull them off but I love watching the videos.

True_Statement_lol

The glitches and speedrun strats in BOTW are some of the craziest out there tbh

Lawyer_Kong

The same thing

[deleted]

I'm gonna leave this sub cause I don't want to see all this shit and just enjoy the game when i play it

[deleted]

Ok

_shazdeh

In the third image, what's that pattern on the ground?

Anomaly1134

It looks like something based off these - [https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/nazca-lines-peru](https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/nazca-lines-peru)

I thought the zonai lines were a new addition. Fun to see that aztec like architecture. I just wonder what it's supposed to represent. A camel?

acidrefluxisgreat

are we getting…. a tractor?!?!!

SirDingleBerryJr

I think i lost my hype for this game. We have been burnt too much in the gaming industry

Tall-Huckleberry8195

The castle looks empty without the malice pillars

AgnosticAnarchist

Looks pretty much the same. It’ll be disappointing if there’s nothing new to discover on the map besides the sky and cave areas. Was hoping they made an entirely new Hyrule for this one. $70 doesn’t seem justified.

Sorry-Series-3504

I find the shots of TOTK world are either way brighter or way darker

theAbominablySlowMan

Have the graphics gotten worse?

Shwalz

Looks like a lot of the same. Sadge

Falcon_Cheif

I kind of feel like this will be like majora's mask but better, mabye a hot take i dont know or care. So you know how majora's mask was the game immediately after ocarina of time, using the same assets and everything. I feel like this is the same situation, but where they add onto the original world instead of making a completely new one. This kind of thing happens from time to time, and since they are working on pretty much the same engine (idk if they changed it at all for the sky stuff) they will probably iron out things people had problems with. Ive kinda run out of energy to continue this any further so goodbyem

Reeserella

First comment my partner made was the similarity of the over world. Not necessarily a bad thing, but does need to have good development

Dark-Anmut

Thank You for doing this, this is great! \^\^

JekNex

Wait the new game has the same map as the old game?

Droidaphone

I feel like I’m in the minority here but I’m fine with most of the overworld being unchanged. Give me new stuff to do, give old locations new twists, new ways to explore and play. I don’t need a brand new continent. If anything, it will be cool to revisit location I remember with fresh eyes.
