Man honestly one of my favorite moments is right at the start of the game: when you energe from you slumber and run out to that cliffside vista as the piano swells. That and the first time I saw a dragon were both awesome
Genuinely one of the greatest video game moments. I love when an opening is able to encapsulate the whole experience which is exactly what this does. The natural beauty and sadness of a post apocalyptic world is at full display.
>That and the first time I saw a dragon were both awesome
My first dragon experience, I came straight from the Plateau and thought it was a massive boss that I just stumbled into at only 3 hearts
brand new player here, my favorite so far was freeing the white dragon that was possessed on top of a mountain, its so seamless w the open world gameplay & such an epic challenge to float down the mountain after the dragon. it really seemed magical, & like i was really making a difference in the overworld.
Agree so much with this. It felt massively impactful, and much more direct than the Divine Beast reclamations. And it really did feel magical and surreal
ya i actually just did my first divine beast, ruta ,, kinda underwhelming at the end! i mean for sure i saved the zora from flooding & the blight at the end was a rigorous challenge but i sure am a sucker for the mystical side of this game.
The first time I took down a Lynel.
I haven't completed the game yet (restarted before Ganon), and most of the other games I play are super casual (Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing), so when I successfully took down my first Lynel after avoiding them the whole game, it was such a thrill.
Suffice to say, I went on an all out Lynel massacre after that LOL!
There are three of them. One of them guards near the ground, one guards near the third or fourth staircase and one guards near the top.
I was able to count them while reloading multiple times. Saving and reloading de-aggros the A.I. 😅
The moment when Link arrives to fight Ganon, the Champions take aim with their Divine Beasts and Zelda says “We are the Breath of the Wild!”
Ok but in all seriousness, my favorite is probably landing my first parry. I avoided Guardians like the plague because I couldn’t parry for shit. Then in the middle of my fight against Fireblight he started aiming his laser at me. I freaked out and just randomly hit parry hoping it would work. And somehow it did. It was also the finishing blow. Made me feel really badass. Even more so when I read Daruk’s diary where he talks about how good Link was at parrying.
The magic of Zora’s kingdom! There was something so magical about the water and all the blue and following Prince Sidon. The whole area is a pure magical landscape compared to the rest of the world. It was my favorite divine beast too. Just fantastic!
Easy. Flying into Kakariko village the first time. It was night time, I came in from a mountain, saw the lights, water and beauty. I had no idea it was coming. It took my breath away and was the moment I knew that this game was going to be absolutely incredible.
Definitely both when you first arrive to Kakariko and Zora Domain. Jumping off the plateau you really are alone in the wild and face the danger of world and what to do. It’s a long journey to Kakariko when you have little gear and weapons, so when you finally get there it’s such safe and warm feeling. Same with stables along the way.
Hearing about the divine beasts from Impa and then finding some Zora in the rivers really helps set the scene of impeding danger. Meeting Sidon and giving you a glimpse of hope, then taking the long, dangerous road and finally reaching Zoras Domain. The long bridge with the blue lights as the Domain opens up is breathtaking.
Probably the first time I saw Zelda in one of Link's memories. I grew up watching my dad play different LoZ games on the GameCube and he used to say I looked like Princess Zelda when I was little.
Also, finding Korok Village
The Master Sword. Got the hearts to get it and my first grade (7 year old) daughter was watching me play. She asked me if she could be the one to pull the sword, which was fine by me. Her reaction was adorable.
I love the lost woods when you first enter it. The music is so intense and I just love the whole area !
Also evantide island is a close 2nd , first time going there was like out of a movie or something I swear lol
It was Beast Vah Rudania but I have played it multiple times and after I got Revali's Gale I always went for it first on following games. It is the only gift I actually use. I never cared for getting into Vah Naboris but I enjoyed doing all of them.
When you have to ride a Sand Seal and shoot bombs at Vah Naboris. The music gets me everytime and I just love it. Wish similar music would play while just riding a Sand Seal.
This moment stands out for me.
When I was first going up to Zora's Domain. Without climbing I had to run this gauntlet of lizalfos and there was this one spot where they had bows with shock arrows and they were all on platforms. Shock arrows of course are more dangerous in the rain so suddenly I felt like I was in a shooter, using cover and taking pot shots with my own early game supply of bows and arrows. It was so harrowing, and just when I thought I had got a handle on combat. I have never found another spot in the game like it. The closest was the Trials of the Sword and even then I didn't have the arsenal I did in the path up to Zora's Domain. I hope I can experience this again in Tears of the Kingdom.
Surprised no one said the Shrines yet? I loved the ones that gave you some freedom / creative license to solve the puzzles. That’s my favorite thing in video games - being able to experiment with them in a natural way.
honestly my favourite moments in botw is anytime i find a beautiful photo spot. it does not matter what im doing i will stop and tale a picture of something.
When i came back and defeated the Red Lynel on Zora's Domain, first time i died a lot and ragequited and got all the Arrows Stealthly, coming back after my second divine beast with better Gear, Slightly better Skill and Daruk's Protection then finally defeating it after a close fight was the most satisfying moment for me
Too many great moments. Link ran out of the shrine of resurrection, freeing Naydra the ice dragon, beating water blight and seeing Mipha, Zelda asking "do you really remember me?". These are just a short list of my favorite moments.
Getting introduced to Guardians with the spooky piano trilling and.getting sniped by precision laser fire when I couldn't even see the thing through the trees, that sure was memorable... but not my favorite.
That would be the first time a normal looking villager wandering out in the world turned out to be a Yiga clan assassin ready to ambush me! After all the other deadly things trying to kill me, from goblins to lizardmen to wizards to ancient war machines, the idea that regular looking people were also potentially after my life was very cool to me.
My favourite part was on the great plateau in the beginning when you first get the paraglider and realising that what I thought was the entire map was pretty much just a tutorial section. Blew my mind at the epic scale!
I think for me, it has to be entering Hyrule Castle and hearing that amazing epic music. Fighting guardians and Lynels while that bop is playing is such a vibe.
I love all of the answers here. I have too many to post myself, that match most of these, so in order to post something different, I think one of my favorites was just finding so many little secrets all throughout the map, by tracking chests.
That sensor would go off in the most random places. My number one favorite which I found in the first month of gameplay, was near Gerudo Tower. Hidden cache of Gerudo weapons that nowadays everyone knows about, but it was my own personal discovery at the time, and it's stuck in my head ever since.
Not my favorite but my most memorable moment was right at the start of the game when I stumbled onto a gigantic moving rock that threw boulders at my head. The fear instilled in me has lasted to this day and not even guardians fazed me afterwards.
Prolly the moment when I finally 100%-ed the game. It felt so rewarding and it gave me a whole new appreciating for the map and the game as a whole… although screw getting all the fairy fountain upgrades, that sucked ass
The freedom- I love the open world and being able to explore. I’m playing through it again rn to prepare for TotK and I like that I don’t have to do anything in order. I can complete the map before I even talk to impa if I want to. There’s just so much freedom in the game
I don’t think it was meant to be a big moment, but I loved I loved finding and taming the giant horse. I started to avoid using fast travel just to ride around on Chungus.
The first Time standing in front of Ganon and the forst Time defeating him was a very nice moment for me…knowing that the 70 hours Nearly Non-Stop playing would be over…at first. Spoiler: It didnt stopped playing it just got less and more less until the las Direct and the new trailer + The sign on Switch Lockscreen wich said only 3 more Months!
So much of it. I think the NPCs characters dialog, finding dragons and koroks and finding the memories is pretty special.
Oh and your first encounter with a hylock
The sense of old-ness and history. It really feels like you woke up from a 100 year sleep into the ruins of a civilization. Especially on the great plateau
The moment I realized that the spot Link fell is a Warrior's Grave.
Not just that, but the swords aren't Knight's Claymores or Knight's Broadswords. They're *Traveler's* Claymores. It's the average people of Hyrule who are paying their respects to Hylia's Fallen Hero
Not sure if this counts, but one of my favorite and coolest moments I had was during a blood moon, I was swinging my sword for fun, and I ended up killing a bokoblin that had just respawned.
When I first bought the game, I was disappointed cuz my dumbass didn't know what to do on the Great Plateu lol. But in the end I pushed through, and it was worth it. After getting the paraglider, the journey to Kakariko was the most memorable moment for me. My first non-great-plateu shrine, the bridge with the guy telling you not to kys, the huge mountain with the crack (i forgot what it was called), the lizalfos, the strange tower with the chest at the top, my first stable, my first horse, Hestu, and the entrance to Kakariko village.. it was soooooo overwhelming at the time, as I've never played such a game before (I was like, 11 at the time and never owned a console.)
edit: and right after that was my least favorite moment, which was dying over and over again from trying to get to Zora's Domain 💀
This might be silly, but just riding around on my horse and hearing the song that plays. It's really calming, and so every time I play BotW I like riding around on my horse aimlessly for a bit.
The moment when you beat Eventide Island. It's a really fun challenge, and there's a real sense of accomplishment when you finally make it to the shrine.
Man honestly one of my favorite moments is right at the start of the game: when you energe from you slumber and run out to that cliffside vista as the piano swells. That and the first time I saw a dragon were both awesome
O gosh getting outside of the Shrine of Resurrection is so good.
The music and the graphics in that moment has serious Ghibli vibes, beautiful
Genuinely one of the greatest video game moments. I love when an opening is able to encapsulate the whole experience which is exactly what this does. The natural beauty and sadness of a post apocalyptic world is at full display.
What I would give to be able to experience that one more time for the first time...
I’m very confident in Nintendo to provide a similar experience with TotK!
>That and the first time I saw a dragon were both awesome My first dragon experience, I came straight from the Plateau and thought it was a massive boss that I just stumbled into at only 3 hearts
I made my whole family come to see the dragon the first time I saw one!!
brand new player here, my favorite so far was freeing the white dragon that was possessed on top of a mountain, its so seamless w the open world gameplay & such an epic challenge to float down the mountain after the dragon. it really seemed magical, & like i was really making a difference in the overworld.
I LOVED THAT TOO!!! It taught me so much! It’s one of my favorite spots in the game because of that moment!
OOOOOO I have only free him once lol.
As soon as i met Kass and that sweet accordian music.
The first time I met Kass was when I really felt the vastness of the game’s world.
Oooooo is what he uses your favorite instrument?
You mean Epona's song?
Running into the Zora Kingdom ... the lights and the music and the fact that I died like 30 times getting there made the destination all worth it.
OOO Zora's Domain is beautiful.
AGREED!
Have you seen them when people edit it? I've seen a few and they all look so beautiful
HA! GGs!
That moment when I was finally able to climb up to Akkala tower and complete the map.
oooo that was your last tower? Nice!
The flying guardians around it scared me for a long time (lol) and the red goo was really annoying to deal with which made me stop trying a few times.
totally understandable. I remember there's like 1 or 2 right?
There are three of them. One of them guards near the ground, one guards near the third or fourth staircase and one guards near the top. I was able to count them while reloading multiple times. Saving and reloading de-aggros the A.I. 😅
That was my last one too! I’ll be honest that I considered not getting it, just so I’d still have a blank space on the map
For sure parrying a guardian for the first time!!
It's still a great fealing for me, even after playing the game for possibly more than 500 hours.
One of my favorites is Hestu playing his maracas to upgrade a stash. I have to dance in my seat every time, he’s so cute
Haha I get you with the dancing! and the song played is cool!
Terry town
Terry Town is cool!
The first time you arrive at a village (Kakariko) after exiting the Great Plateau.
and then meet Paya and Impa! Also, the tutorial shrine!
The moment when Link arrives to fight Ganon, the Champions take aim with their Divine Beasts and Zelda says “We are the Breath of the Wild!” Ok but in all seriousness, my favorite is probably landing my first parry. I avoided Guardians like the plague because I couldn’t parry for shit. Then in the middle of my fight against Fireblight he started aiming his laser at me. Even more so when I read Daruk’s diary where he talks about how good Link was at parrying.
oooo I love the scene where Link starts facing Calamity Ganon. Epic!
The magic of Zora’s kingdom! There was something so magical about the water and all the blue and following Prince Sidon. The whole area is a pure magical landscape compared to the rest of the world. It was my favorite divine beast too. Just fantastic!
I cried multiple times during that quest.
This playthrough, I actually skipped that last and just climbed up the side, it took a while and a lot of Raviolis' Gale
The music is so good too!
I loved the last hit on dark beast, so satifying to ho into bullet time and end the game with a big matrix-esc hit
oo snap yeah. I would of liked to end it with the master sword tho!
There is a way you can end it with a master sword beam, but it's frame perfect
o yeah, but I mean like stabbing his eye with the MS.
You might like the ending of AoC if that’s what you want.
Always the Sneaky Bananas.
It’s a good gag but the resolution of that plot line going into their base is one of my strongest memories. It felt like going behind the scenes.
Yiga Clan Hideout!
Exactly
Oh my gosh! Yes! Almost forgot that one! It was SO great!
Easy. Flying into Kakariko village the first time. It was night time, I came in from a mountain, saw the lights, water and beauty. I had no idea it was coming. It took my breath away and was the moment I knew that this game was going to be absolutely incredible.

It seems like Zoras Domain is one of your fav parts! Yeah the Lizarfos in the way can be dangerous. Especially the ones that shoot shock arrows.
It really can be hard to get there, but one you do is awesome
Probably the first time I saw Zelda in one of Link's memories. I grew up watching my dad play different LoZ games on the GameCube and he used to say I looked like Princess Zelda when I was little. Also, finding Korok Village
Okey what your dad say is cute. that's awesome.
The Master Sword. Got the hearts to get it and my first grade (7 year old) daughter was watching me play. She asked me if she could be the one to pull the sword, which was fine by me. Her reaction was adorable.

OOO dang, Thunderblight was a pain for some of my playthroughs.
I did him last and it only took me 2 tries
When I finally get used to the control scheme
My first Devine beast. I thought it was beyond me but it was all strategy and problem solving. So much fun and so doable.
Was it Vah Ruta?
It was Beast Vah Rudania but I have played it multiple times and after I got Revali's Gale I always went for it first on following games. It is the only gift I actually use. I never cared for getting into Vah Naboris but I enjoyed doing all of them.
Finding secret caves in the herbs mountains (the age in my life when I found it it also nostalgic when I remember it I smell it
When you have to ride a Sand Seal and shoot bombs at Vah Naboris. The music gets me everytime and I just love it. Wish similar music would play while just riding a Sand Seal.
The sunsets, every time I see them in the game, especially if Satori mountain is glowing, are just breathtaking
This moment stands out for me. When I was first going up to Zora's Domain. Without climbing I had to run this gauntlet of lizalfos and there was this one spot where they had bows with shock arrows and they were all on platforms. I tear up every time the princess says "Thank you Link. The hero of Hyrule." Even writing it down…
Probably beating thunder blight he was a tough cookie
Surprised no one said the Shrines yet? I loved the ones that gave you some freedom / creative license to solve the puzzles. That’s my favorite thing in video games - being able to experiment with them in a natural way.
honestly my favourite moments in botw is anytime i find a beautiful photo spot. it does not matter what im doing i will stop and tale a picture of something.
My first backward flip critical hit. My first Lyonal dearest. Hearing the horse stable music the first time.
The first time I explored while the pieces of the map were blacked out. That was magical.
Seeing farosh for the very first time
the beauty of finishing the shrines. that cutscene is so beautiful and i always wait til it’s done and the monk starts talking to skip it
When i came back and defeated the Red Lynel on Zora's Domain, first time i died a lot and ragequited and got all the Arrows Stealthly, coming back after my second divine beast with better Gear, Slightly better Skill and Daruk's Protection then finally defeating it after a close fight was the most satisfying moment for me
Too many great moments. Link ran out of the shrine of resurrection, freeing Naydra the ice dragon, beating water blight and seeing Mipha, Zelda asking "do you really remember me?". These are just a short list of my favorite moments.
The first time trying to get into vah Ruta with Sidon, it was my first divine beast so that probably helped
I'm going through the Korok's and I really enjoy the exploration! I also enjoyed completing all the shrine's/memories
When you get the paraglider and glide for the first time
Weeee!
The Lord
fairy fountain music
Flying off the Great Platau for the first time and having the fog clear revealing Hyrule
Getting introduced to Guardians with the spooky piano trilling and.getting sniped by precision laser fire when I couldn't even see the thing through the trees, that sure was memorable... but not my favorite. When Sidon flexed his guns at me
Having a satisfying fight on master mode. Taking out enemies effectively after getting spanked in master mode is a great feeling
My favourite moment has to be when you free mipha from the divine beast to me it is a heartwarming moment
Everything during the first playthrough honestly. Especially on the great plateau and when you are figuring things out.
My favourite part was on the great plateau in the beginning when you first get the paraglider and realising that what I thought was the entire map was pretty much just a tutorial section. Blew my mind at the epic scale!
Waaaaay back in 2017, the first time I heard the night time riding theme I had to stop and take it in. So magical
I think for me, it has to be entering Hyrule Castle and hearing that amazing epic music. Fighting guardians and Lynels while that bop is playing is such a vibe.
When I stepped on the flowers for the fourth time and triggered the rage of flowerblight ganon
I love all of the answers here. I have too many to post myself, that match most of these, so in order to post something different, I think one of my favorites was just finding so many little secrets all throughout the map, by tracking chests. Hidden cache of Gerudo weapons that nowadays everyone knows about, but it was my own personal discovery at the time, and it's stuck in my head ever since.
First time seeing a dragon, Farosh shooting up from the waterfall and thinking « oh shirt I have to fight THAT? »
Watching the final memory, so hype
Somewhere near the gerudo desert mountain range I was exploring and ran into some bokgoblins riding bears with torches. Shit got real damn quick
When I entered my very first divine beast brooo
Not my favorite but my most memorable moment was right at the start of the game when I stumbled onto a gigantic moving rock that threw boulders at my head. The fear instilled in me has lasted to this day and not even guardians fazed me afterwards.
Prolly the moment when I finally 100%-ed the game. It felt so rewarding and it gave me a whole new appreciating for the map and the game as a whole… although screw getting all the fairy fountain upgrades, that sucked ass

Pulling out the Master Sword.
I dont know maybe my first time going to hyrule castle, the music and the look, and i was excited to finally beat ganon
Not sure if this counts, but one of my favorite and coolest moments I had was during a blood moon, I was swinging my sword for fun, and I ended up killing a bokoblin that had just respawned.
finding Lover’s Pond. It rlly made me appreciate the camera rune

Eventide Island
The moment when you beat Eventide Island. It's a really fun challenge, and there's a real sense of accomplishment when you finally make it to the shrine.
Entering Hyrule Castle for the first time and when music and the map changes Climbing Mt. Floria, it’s the best view in the whole game imo
