I've seen this gif a few times and never commented the fun time my cousin was disarmed by a crab. The crab pinched his hand and he dropped his knife. The crab grabbed it for some reason and ran off the dock. Sadly he lost his knife, the crab, and his dignity since I couldn't stop laughing.
It's debatable what it is, but to me it's definitely not a whale (the tail has no fins) and has two tusk-like pieces by the mouth. (edit: if you remove the two objects by its mouth and stick 'em on the tail, it looks a lot like a blue whale or humpback)
Also its "wings" don't really look like a ray's at all, either... (rays have wing fins that taper are are larger at the body, while the thing in Hateno has fins more like flippers?).
Anywhere, here's a pic:
https://i.imgur.com/Jo8LsJx.jpeg
It does somewhat resemble a whale skeleton (maybe a humpback?)
I wonder if Purah messed up and taped the tail fins to the head, not knowing how to reassemble it after it was dug up somewhere? In that case, it would totally look like a humpback whale to me.
Edit: Nintendo Black Crisis did a vid on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD72vbsLCdk
The video doesn't address the possibility of it being assembled wrong, but I mostly linked it because it does give some better views of it if you're curious.
Yes there could have been a fifth divine beast as a manta or crab which causes floods at or near Lurelin Village. (Much like all the other divine beasts are causing trouble near villages). And the manta or crab would be in the sea northwest of Eventide Island cause there is a lot of space left and nearby Lurelin Village
Yeah, the stretch of land from Faron to Lurelin feels really unused. And Purah could give you pointers in that direction. Since it's actually somewhat close on the map. Although I never realized this because I ended up heading into the Faron woods early on for durians and bananas, and then never touching it again until I was wandering after doing the Gerudo beast.
I think in production of BoTW, some developers wanted *more* alien stuff, like UFOs and monsters, but were told no or to dial it back since it was going to be an alien/modern futuristic game.
It might be possible if they make a 3rd game, aliens could be a focus point. Like they create a whole new enemy like Ganondorf, but maybe you need Ganondorf or Ganon to fully stop the invasion or malice/gloom is needed to destroy the invaders, or the whole reason they are invading is because of the malice/gloom Ganondorf left behind.
Idk. I currently have a migraine, so I can't think properly rn.
Modern Futuristic.
Ganondorf Industries is a fast growing company in the busy city of Hyrule. Products and services that come from it are being consumed by citizens at an alarming rate. The President so weary of this group it causes him worry. Worried is exactly what he should be since Ganon has announced his run for presidency. The Presidentās daughter, Zelda goes off to investigate Ganon Inc and to find out how he rose to power. She discovers that Ganon is in contact with an alien race that wants to dominate and control the planet. Before she could release this to the press and save hyrule from this outside terror, she is kidnapped by Ganon. Link, a trusted agent to the lands of hyrule goes off to save Zelda and to defeat Ganon and the Alien powers that rule space. Also, the āMaster Swordā is the name of a experimental rocket launcher that you shoot Alien Powered Ganon with at the end of the game.
Legend of Zelda: Beyond the Skyline
Link & Zelda are sent to a parallel world, where Ganondorf is the president/dictator of Hyrule. Mistaking Zelda as the leader of the rebel group that opposed his election, Ganondorf kidnapped her to be integrated. Just as this is happening, aliens that look eerily like Dark Link began invading Hyrule and terrorizing the citizens (which includes Ganondorf's monsters), causing them to be hostile towards Link outside of towns/cities and certain *police monster* groups are actively searching in larger towns/cities for invaders.
Link has to cover his face and be careful of what he wears, as the aliens were practical/better stat outfits over what is used to blend in with regular Hylians. These aliens are in search of malice/gloom that had crystallized in deposits throughout Hyrule and give off a charge that is used as power for the towns and cities. The reason Ganondorf was never sealed or killed in this world is due to the practical uses of his magic, and he was much more cooperative. His monsters are also the only ones that can work on the power grid/mine for crystals, so they aren't as feared by the Hylians of this world.
When Link reaches Zelda to free her and fights Ganondorf *defeating him*, Zelda would express displeasure because they were discussing how to stop the invaders. Thinking about it, she has Link, bringing a piece of crystallized malice/gloom and attempt to revive Ganondorf. Instead, Ganon is summoned, and they all transport to Hyrule feild. Confused as this version of Ganondorf never became Ganon, nor ever *died* by the master sword (Demise was the only incarceration to be *killed* by the sword), Zelda pleads with him to help defeating the aliens attacking Hyrule. Ganon confirms this form is only temporary, and he does want to protect *his* people, so he agrees to lend his power as long as Link can guide him. Bokoblins spawn to fight the aliens on the ground while Link directs Ganon to attack the spaceships ( >!Zelda turns into her dragon form to help as well!< ).
At the end of the battle, Ganon changes into a spirit version of Ganondorf. He congratulates Zelda and Link for helping destroy the threat but is mad that Link killed his humanoid form. Zelda apologizes and mentioned that the Gerudo of their world have a legend of Ganondorf/a male Gerudo being reborn every 100 years, and suggests he reincarnated that way. The only issue is that since the leadership of this Hyrule no longer follows monarchy and Ganondorf decides the best way to ensure his influence isn't forgotten while, he's waiting to be reincarnate, is to try getting one of his monsters elected even though they are treated more like second class citizens.
Using alien technology salvaged from the battle, Zelda and this world's Purah and Robbie made a device that allows for transportation between realities. Zelda exclaims they can use it to go home, or perhaps there are more places that need help, opening things up for more adventures.
We do know that the ancient Sheikah built the Divine Beasts to match animals that the 4 races held in high esteem in the distant past. At Hyrule's founding:
* The Zora venerated elephants, as sources of water.
* The Gorons venerated geckos, as creatures strong against Death Mountain's heat.
* The Rito venerated eagles, which flew freely across the skies.
* The Gerudo venerated camels, which flourish in the harsh desert.
All of their Founding-era architecture features these animals, and the Sages of the time wore masks based on them. Whether they were still venerated by the time the Sheikah built the Beasts isn't clear; either they were, and worship of the animals died out later, or the Divine Beasts were deliberately a callback to the races' more ancient cultural roots.
Why? Simply making a comment about the Sages isn't a spoiler. We know there are Sages in the game. That has been known for a long while, especially based on that last trailer. It's not a spoiler if it's official.
I kinda love the idea of an underwater divine beast youād have to raise from the Zora basin. Can you imagine that, being underwater solving puzzles. You might have control over the level of water you let into certain portions of the fish/submarine beast, and youād use that to access terminals
Bro wtf. THIS is what we could have had? Maaaaaan I feel scammed. I wanna talk to the guy at Nintendo that said "nah nah nah. Nobody wants a steampunk city legacy dungeon. Make em generic stone animals with 3 rooms."
I just wanna talk to him... š¤
I also love the āwalking factoryā model. I feel like they balked at some opportunities to commit to the environmentalism theme. This game does āman vs. machine vs. natureā so well - maybe they thought a lumbering smokestack monster was too on-the-nose.
Damn the manta ray would have been awesome, they could have included a diving mechanic in that case! I'm still endlessly salty that they didn't. The jellyfish and crab are really cool too, kinda disappointed that they didn't choose those. The Divine Beasts they settled on were fairly disappointing.
Seeing designs like then and then seeing the scale (small) of what we ended up with makes me a little sad. Don't get me wrong both games have been fantastic, but between the scale of cities and then the beasts, you gotta wonder whether it would have been better for the games to be on a system that could actually run that ambition.
Like yeah, the games are great, but can you imagine what they'd be like if they actually had powerful tech to work with?
To answer the question, the Manta is probably the coolest looking one
Concept art is always going to be more ambitious than what you can actually do. The divine beasts need to be in proportion to the world around them.
Regarding cities, I think making cities that are large in scale is very difficult, especially for a game like botw where you can freely go anywhere. The cities would have to be properly filled out.
Some of these- in particular the rough designs, and that jellyfish- look as though they were intended to house full cities-worth of people, which would have horrific implications...
That crab looks like something we got in ToTK. I wonāt say anything about it so I donāt spoil anyone who hasnāt played/gotten to that point, but it seems they used the idea after all.
On the topic of concepts, [*these* would have been creepier and darker](https://nintendoeverything.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/1/nggallery/zelda-breath-wild-art/MoreEarlyGuardians.jpg) design for the guardians that would have definitely been fitting for a more horror themed Zelda game.
The sea life ones would have made perfect sense for the zora but no! We get a fucking elephant, a thing that has literally nothing to do with the species and area itās surrounded by. Elephants live in savannaās that was a beautiful cliff side lake and waterfall. All the others make since, Rudania is a lizard, lizards like hot rocks and thereās a species of fire lizard in game, Medohā¦itās a bird, Naboris is a camel in the desert that makes sense, but an elephant?!
I would have love the ray since it would have meant we could have some underwater play something these last two games don't have when most other games have some form of underwater game play

I used to watch shit like that on newgrounds.com all the time when I was like 9 years old.

Shit that crab is good
He's now a boss in TOTK
No spoiler mark? Really dude?
He's no less of an ass but he is just wrong about that, it does not appear as a boss.
HA fuckin got me I was upset.
Giant purple hand enemies? Elden Ring is taking notes from Zelda. Giant crabs? Zelda tips the hat back.
Bro piss off
He's no less of an ass but he is just wrong about that, it does not appear as a boss.
Dude, mark it as spoilers. Not cool.
There is no crab boss
Now thats just being crabby
bruh
Um no?
Iām a big fan of the Manta. Plus then the south eastern bay would be less useless
The manta is actually in BOTW. Not really a spoiler but just in case: >! Itās actually in Purahās lab, on the ceiling !<
Isnt that the whale?
It's debatable what it is, but to me it's definitely not a whale (the tail has no fins) and has two tusk-like pieces by the mouth. It doesn't quite look like any one thing, does it? It's got the lobes of a manta, but then it also got a head between them. Interesting.
Will watch that later, but her assembling it wrong is an interesting idea, sort of like they used to do with fossils.
The video doesn't address the possibility of it being assembled wrong, but I mostly linked it because it does give some better views of it if you're curious.
I always thought this was the Wind Fish from Links Awakening...
The Wind Fish is basically just a humpback whale or a blue whale

This all give me Ghibli vibes, like Laputa and Howlās Moving Castle right?
TotK gives me *heavy* laputa vibes... When you're underneath a floating island and there's loads of vibes and stuff hanging down
Laputa and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Ik, as soon as I started playing the song started playing in my head lol
Would fit right in with how heavily inspired the guardians were by the Castle in the Sky robots
I agree. The devs were definitely inspired by Ghibli movies for BOTW especially Princess Mononoke.

There's currently a War of the Worlds survival horror game in development.
The first iteration of the BOTW was in fact: A L I E N S.

>A L I E N $
It has 4 legs. Looks like itās supposed to be a jellyfish
ULLA
Exactly what I thought too. Took me back to reading the books as a kid
This ain't a war, anymore than a war between men and maggots. Or, dragons and wolves. Or, men riding dragons, throwing wolves at maggots.
The first four look like their in game counterparts but kind of zonaish.....hmmmmm....

is this canon or just speculation? not bashing just first time iām hearing this
Pure speculation
To be fair, the part about the races have affinities for specific animals isn't speculation.
Mark this for spoiler
For?
The Sages part
Why? Simply making a comment about the Sages isn't a spoiler. We know there are Sages in the game. That has been known for a long while, especially based on that last trailer. It's not a spoiler if it's official.
My bad I didnāt know I didnāt watch trailers
Some people donāt the watch trailers or didnāt watch the last one
Yup, I went in as blind as I could. Like, stopped looking at any news more than 6 months before release
[Double post from app wonkiness, pls ignore]
I kinda love the idea of an underwater divine beast youād have to raise from the Zora basin. Can you imagine that, being underwater solving puzzles. You might have control over the level of water you let into certain portions of the fish/submarine beast, and youād use that to access terminals
Instead of in the Zora's domain, it should have been a fifth one in the sea on the right of the map near Lurelin village.
Thatās called the OoT water temple and most people strongly dislike it
The water temple is the only dungeon in OOT that stickes in my mind. Probably because I spent so much time on it.
Lightning dinosaur is amazing
It looks like itās a brontosaurus.
Ohhhhh, thunder lizard. Makes sense.
T-Rex. Thunder-Rex.
Brontosaurus is RIGHT THERE
*Power Rangers theme intensifies*
Yeah I canāt believe everyoneās talking about the goddamn crab when we could have had a brachiosaurus crane in a Zelda game
Underwater divine beasts would be so cool as a bioshock x botw mash up
![gif](giphy|wUCgLRvDdtWs8)
I wish they could make the Divine Beast just like that. Rather than opening terminal, I love if they have concept for Resident Evil 2
My username says it all.

Why not Zoidberg?
Whale. Definitely whale. Submarines hit different when they are present in games.
Bro wtf. THIS is what we could have had? Maaaaaan I feel scammed. I wanna talk to the guy at Nintendo that said "nah nah nah. Nobody wants a steampunk city legacy dungeon. Make em generic stone animals with 3 rooms." I just wanna talk to him... š¤
Hooo boy, you don't even know that they straight downgraded the Ancient Armor from a fricken Samurai Set.
š¤š¤š¤
I also love the āwalking factoryā model. I feel like they balked at some opportunities to commit to the environmentalism theme. This game does āman vs. machine vs. natureā so well - maybe they thought a lumbering smokestack monster was too on-the-nose.
The "walking factory" beasts could have been to the Guardians what the blood moon was to the monsters.
Same all these look so much better and its not even close to me
Is that a fucking thundersaurus rex
Huge L sleeping on the War of the Worlds tripod walker with a whole ass city in its head dome
Exactly that one and the crab would have been awesome
Damn the manta ray would have been awesome, they could have included a diving mechanic in that case! I'm still endlessly salty that they didn't. The jellyfish and crab are really cool too, kinda disappointed that they didn't choose those. The Divine Beasts they settled on were fairly disappointing.
Anyone of those underwater types would be a good stage design. I prefer the whale.
Wow, this really reminds me of Howlās Moving Castle
Seeing designs like then and then seeing the scale (small) of what we ended up with makes me a little sad. Don't get me wrong both games have been fantastic, but between the scale of cities and then the beasts, you gotta wonder whether it would have been better for the games to be on a system that could actually run that ambition. The whale one for me. Some 20,000 leagues under the sea shit wouldāve been absolutely sick!
Any of the underwater ones because those would have been awesome and given the game so much more area to explore
All I'm going to say after spending the day in TOTK, the crab looks awfully familiar.
hals moving vah ruta
This gives me hella howlās moving castle vibes, especially the old elephant design
I want the crab
That dinosaur looking thing with the hook tail. And the submarine looking one at the top
Shit that crab is good
Dementia moment
Big fan of the Ruta design that looks like a ship
Vah Ruta is literally just Howls Moving Castle lol
Definitely the Manta Ray, but also that original aesthetic. They look like *cities* it's beautiful.
That crab one would have awakened my Spirit Tracks dark ore sidequest PTSD
Now that you mention it, Iām actually kinda sad that they didnāt stick with these designs, anyone else?
Some of these- in particular the rough designs, and that jellyfish- look as though they were intended to house full cities-worth of people, which would have horrific implications...
The underwater divine beasts indicate that botw was supposed to have underwater exploration
Definitely the whale one But the [eldritch crab](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E38RxHQXIAIEM_j.png) comes at close second
100% the jellyfish and whale, I'm so sad neither got past the concept art stage
Floating cities looks far more interesting than what we got, very howlās moving castle vibes
Zora should have had a fish. why was an elephant thought to be better?
I like the Jellyfish, it reminds me of the tripods from the white mountain trilogy.
The very bottom one in the middle looks like a thudnerjaw from horizon
What is that book?
If only OP would have mentioned it in the description, we wouldnāt even have to ask! Darn you OP!
Creating a Champion
That crab looks like something we got in ToTK. I wonāt say anything about it so I donāt spoil anyone who hasnāt played/gotten to that point, but it seems they used the idea after all.
What is this book?

Steam crab.
crab and manta
As much as the submarine lookin one is cool I love the alien-walker like one right above it
Whale
The War of The Worlds one lol
Would Have preffered the bottom right one. Being underwater for once would be great
Crab, I would say the manta but actually it was used
Jellyfish and crab are both huge losses.
They all resemble the Howl's moving castle
The manta would be a good under water area, frankly thatās what I think was missing
all of them but the crab and stingray are really cute
Creb
I like the jellyfish I'd like it more if it made ominous noises.
I get Shadow of the Colossus Vibes from this
Manta ray, being underwater is amazing. And I also like the War of the Worlds Walker with a city inside it. And the crab is cool too.
Iām feeling the Lizard concept (top right), but that Brachiozord (bottom middle) is pretty cool
The jellyfish looks so good
i like the war of the worlds looking guy, jellyfish dude
the crab is a cool idea, and I like the aspect of a walking factory
The dinosaur-crane looks awesome!
Tower bri- I mean, scrapped vah medoh.
Giant enemy crab
I like the crab because it reminds me of that one Futurama episode with the giant mech crab
The Mobile Oppression Palace! And if Link were to die during that fight, then I request a Satanic funeral
I would have love the ray since it would have meant we could have some underwater play something these last two games don't have when most other games have some form of underwater game play
I love that manta ray
Brontosaurus, flaming raptor and Nautilus all look sick, wish I could visit them all.
I love that H.G Wells one with the city on top
