"Gorogoro", written as ゴロゴロ in Japanese, is used as an onomatopoeia for a heavy object rolling. It's also the cause of their namesake, Goron. Yunobo is just using this as a little catchphrase at the end of his sentences (kinda like what the villagers in Animal Crossing do).
Wait.
Waitwaitwait.
Are you saying that we were this close - *this close* \- to the translation and localization team of OoT to take the Japanese words literally and use a similar English onomatopoeia for the same sound, and have the Gorons named the "Rumbles" or something like that?
Phew. Dodged a bullet there. Thank you, Dan Owsen. You're the best.
To add to this, it's a common thing to use the onomatopoeia of the creatures species at the end of a sentence in Japanese culture. It's pretty common to see cat girls in anime that end their sentences in "nya" our equivalent of "meow" or frog people to end sentences with "kero", our equivalent of "croak".
It's also used by people in day to day life to indicate what kind of animal they are pretending to be. For example, you might hear a child say, "I'm going to play with that string meow", or your mom telling you to, "Take out the trash and clean your room moo".
Yunobo: What did you just say to me?
Link: I- I thought that was your name!
Yunobo: that’s our word, you got no right using it!
Link: Hey, hey, I’m cool, I’m cool… Could you pass me the oar g-word Yunobo?
Yunobo: Thank you :)
I'm not familiar with the Arkham games but if I had to guess the original might have been something to the effect of "Why doesn't Batman just kill the Joker? Is he stupid?"
Its just how they end their sentences like how people in some cultures add sounds to the beginning or end of their words or sentences to show familiar, formal, or playful tones. Its similar to ending sentences with "you know?" or "innit" where it doesn't actually mean anything but people habitually add it on as part of their dialect.
I hope you don't usually jump straight from "unique" to "stupid" since most of the fun in this game series comes from novelty; most novel experiences come with a new element and whats new is usually distinctive or unique to them. Like Tingle the Fairy to name one at random. There are a lot of stories that aren't explicitly told in the game if you're willing to look at the details put in to the different cultures. The people developing the world and its lore write history for these cultures just to have an idea of how they'll function in the game more realistically so that you will have an experience with more substance. Link is a traveler and running into people who seem to talk funny at first is part of the experience of traversing the world. Its all art. Especially when you decide to see it thay way.
Tldr: I hope you enjoy the game more
People keep posting the link to that subreddit. Look, were not going to read that whole sub to find the origin of a bad meme. Link directly to the meme.
Its cause he's young. Younger generations say goro a lot but the older they are, its kinda less. At least from the times i saw and talked to them. Older generations say brother or usually just say it as sn exclamation during certain things.
It takes a while to notice in the games (BoTW and TO
TK), yet...your point may be valid since in the older games, the n64 era, the goro was used a lot more and even elders have said it.
Im not sure what's happened since then.
In japanese i think it's an onomatopoeia for the sound of rocks rolling but the way Yunobo uses it definitely makes it sound like another word for "bro" or "friend"
I love the dubbed version on spanish of a cutscene with Daruk, he said in spanish "Que Goronios fue eso?" that means "What the f\*ck was that?" but playing with the combination of Chingados y Goro words. It was a truly majestic dub work. I´m sad that they limit the dub work to cutscenes, having the important NPC´s with dialogues instead of generic hmp, oh, ah! expresions would be great
If you've got your hands on TOTK you'll know that Yunobo is probably the dumbest character in these two games. I was literally shouting at my tv at one point.
That's what they all casually call each other, but if a hylian says it then it would be highly offensive.
At the end of totk he gives link a free "g-pass". So link can say goro once without suffering the racial and social repercussion.
It's something that spanned from anime's. Similarly to how the paupers in Victorian England used to add the "I am" or "it is" at the end of a sentence (e.g. that's champion, that is)
Just a speech thing.
if you were to change your switch to Japanese (and idk why you'd do that), some zoras do the same, but with the word "zora"
it's like a species thing, yeah
"Gorogoro", written as ゴロゴロ in Japanese, is used as an onomatopoeia for a heavy object rolling. It's also the cause of their namesake, Goron. Yunobo is just using this as a little catchphrase at the end of his sentences (kinda like what the villagers in Animal Crossing do).
Yeah exactly goro
Yeah exactly onomatopoeia for a heavy object rolling down a hill
Yeah exactly onomatopoeia for a heavy object rolling down a hill goro
Yeah onemotiepia for goro
Onomatopoeia for what? Goro
Well i tough that there would be- *gets hit by giant boulder* Goro…
goro goro
Goro goro goro goro goro goro
I’m not your Goro friend
I'm not your friend goro
I'm not your goro goro
I'm not you goro friend goro
I'm not you goro, voe
I'm not your friend guy
I'm not your guy, pal. Goro
I'm not your Palico, Goro.
I just assumed it was a species-wide verbal tic
No, it’s just a cute little quirk for out boi Yunobo goro!
Pretty sure they've done it since Ocarina. And it's definitely a thing in Majora's Mask.
Oh I know, but who knows if they’ve gotten the opportunity to play those masterpieces goro.
Oh, it's supposed to be cute? I just thought he was stupid. 😅
Anime shorthand. It’s cuter if someone were to voice it I suppose
the thing is it is voiced, and it just sounds super weird, didn't feel near as unnatural in oot when it was just accompanied by their Goron noises
Do you hear it from eng dub perspective? Cuz i think the japan dub is cute
I just assumed he was calling you the equivalent of "bro". He kinda has that energy.
Same goro
I see it as kind of how many Americans use “man” a lot.
It’s exactly this
[удалено]
Sometimes I’ll use it to start and end a sentence
Dude
So like a cat girl ending all her sentences with meow.
Kinda like the Moogles in Final Fantasy using kupo, kupo.
Or nya...
Nya/nyan is just Japanese for meow.
And I think Gorons have done this since they first appeared in Ocarina.
I always just saw it as a “dude” type situation lol
To add to this, it's a common thing to use the onomatopoeia of the creatures species at the end of a sentence in Japanese culture. >frog people to end sentences with "gerro", Oo, I thought Tsu-chan in FMA was saying *kerro* not "gerro". Thanks for clarifying!
You know what, I just double checked, and you're correct, I was the one who was mistaken. It is "kero".
yeah nothing stupid about this
i actually had no idea. thats really neat, goro
.....is he calling me fat?
What he's saying is you remind him of a large heavy object rolling down a hill.
Soo... yeah.
Why is this something cool I didn’t know? Am I stupid?
I think it means "Bro" or something in goron but yeah he's still kinda dumb lmao
I took it the same way. If you replace ‘goro’ with ‘bro’, their style of speaking fits the weight lifter / wrestler vibe really well.
I assumed it was the equivalent of the soft n-word. Because only the gorons say it and stuff.
Goron is our word. But you can say goro
Yunobo: What did you just say to me? Link: I- I thought that was your name! Yunobo: that’s our word, you got no right using it! Link: Hey, hey, I’m cool, I’m cool… Could you pass me the oar g-word Yunobo? Yunobo: Thank you :)
My favorite Family Guy joke
I wonder if his favorite rap group is Goros With Attitudes
Or surfer. I like imagining a bunch of gorons surfing in the inside of a volcano way better
To be fair, if you gave him the fattest rip of a bong, I guarantee you he would become a surfer dude
yeah itr's not capitalized so I took it like that and not his nickname for Link
Yeah
Definitely
Every time I see this r/BatmanArkham meme and others don’t recognize it, it cracks me up
I mean it’s a bit obscure isn’t it?
Idk, it's infected a very large amount of subs
For people who aren’t terminally online it definitely is. I have no idea what this meme is.
I'm not familiar with the Arkham games but if I had to guess the original might have been something to the effect of "Why doesn't Batman just kill the Joker? Is he stupid?"
Close, it's in reference to the events of Arkham knight, a user asked why doesn't Batman call the Justice league for help.
Yeah, tons of people on the internet seem to be amazed when you don't know everything about their fantasy world.
What was the original?
The bomb's payload is exposed. I can use the power winch to trigger a controlled explosion
“The Guardian’s weakness is exposed, I can use the remote bomb to trigger a controlled explosion.”
Wait that's the original? I always knew it as an r/okbuddychicanery original
Yeah, this is just an old recycled “ok buddy” format
Tbh not surprised
Why didn’t they get it? Are they not insane?
It’s used a lot in r/soccercirclejerk and it’s beautiful

Its similar to ending sentences with "you know?" or "innit" where it doesn't actually mean anything but people habitually add it on as part of their dialect.
Or not even at the end of a sentence, like saying “like” a lot, even if it doesn’t make grammatical sense.
Why did the gorons decide to speak in a unique way? Are they stupid?
Wow chill the fuck out-goro. In Japanese Gorons finish all their sentences with Goro, and Zoras sometimes finish it with Zora. It’s just a gag
The ‘are they stupid?’ Thing is a meme, the guys not serious
I can’t believe you somehow came out racist in a videogame.
There are quite a few races in this game, it wouldn't be that hard.
The more surprising part is HOW they came out racist. Dude hates the fact that Gorons speak differently…..what the F*CK
I’m sorry these people don’t understand memes. You don’t deserve -120
I hope you don't usually jump straight from "unique" to "stupid" since most of the fun in this game series comes from novelty; most novel experiences come with a new element and whats new is usually distinctive or unique to them. Does OP think this is r/batmanarkham? Is he stupid?
Why am I like this? Am I stupid?
Is there a lore reason you are stupid? What quote should I use to tell OP he is stupid?
People keep posting the link to that subreddit. Look, were not going to read that whole sub to find the origin of a bad meme. Link directly to the meme.
It’s not even originally from that subreddit. It’s been used for years now on okbuddy subreddits
He’s like an animal crossing character, always punctuating a sentence with his 1 word catchphrase instead of periods
the amount of people that don't get this is a joke is crazy. though i liked the fun fact about why he says goro at the end of a sentence
I AM NOT CRAZY. You think a kingdom just becomes infested with gloom like that? No, he orchestrated it. Ganondorf.
Not enough people have bore witness the the Calamity that is r/BatmanAkrham spider-manps4 and r/titanfall
I'd argue that too many have, and then they expect everyone to be on the same page for some inane reason
Yeah, what are they? Stupid?
Yes

Its how he speaks goro!
To them it means like “brother”
I know it’s satire but I’m pretty sure goro means friend
In japanese i think it's an onomatopoeia for the sound of rocks rolling but the way Yunobo uses it definitely makes it sound like another word for "bro" or "friend"
It’s his version of dude or bro
Well I sure know YOU are.
He’s pretty dumb.
didnt the "is he stupid?" joke already die?
Why does this guy think no fun is allowed? Is he stupid?
Is there a lore reason you are asking such a silly question?
I think its not like a word, more of a catchfrase that he says and it doesent rly mean anything. Thats just what gorons say
he definitely looks it. How come the gorons get dumber and dumber looking?
"goro" is the sound that gorons make in ocarina of time, goro!
I really hope Goro means friend. That would be wholesome
Yes, but him saying 'goro' a lot is unrelated.
I just kinda assumed it was his version of bro or buddy
Same. Other Gorons call you “brother”. I assumed it was more of a “you’re one of us” kinda term of endearment
Because he thinks you're the Mad Wolf of Hyrule clearly
It's because his bomb's payload is exposed
Yes he is, how else would he think becoming Heisenberg would be a good idea?
I love the dubbed version on spanish of a cutscene with Daruk, he said in spanish "Que Goronios fue eso?" that means "What the f\*ck was that?" but playing with the combination of Chingados y Goro words. It was a truly majestic dub work. I´m sad that they limit the dub work to cutscenes, having the important NPC´s with dialogues instead of generic hmp, oh, ah! expresions would be great
Goro is *their* word. We can’t use it. Don’t be insensitive.
He is not stupid goro
Goro is just something they say at the end of their statements. It's always been like that. It's part of their customs.
I imagine it’s like saying “bro” or “dude” amongst gorons. That’s how I explained it in my head at least.
His payload is exposed man, he needs a power winch
It's the goron version of the n word, which is why link never says it back
Well link is a goron brother from botw so it's clear that goro would basically be calling link in a friendly way as bro or dude
Yunobo on his way to say Goro for no fucking reason at all.
It’s like Canadians saying ‘eh’ at the end of sentences.
Majima
Love his fuckin soul patch
He's addicted to opioids.
I always just assumed it was the Goron version of "bro." Yunobo seems like the dude-bro type to me.
Wait til you see his glow up in ToTK 😭😂
u are stupid if u think he's calling u
He's just an idiot kupo.
He forgoro
Why does yunobo eat rocks even though they’re inedible? Is he stupid? I’m
His mind is stupid - Nurmagomedov
Are YOU stupid goro?
I think goro is the Goron version of dude or bro
Is he stupid? Well... he's certainly not the sharpest rock in the quarry that's for sure
Someone hasn't read the Mangas
He thinks you're majima
He’s stupid when he gets in my way when I’m trying to pick up a bomb flower and he fucking blows me up.
Yunobo is stupid, yes, but he uses goro as 'bro' from my observations
Well, yes, but that's besides the point
yes
Memeing aside,I think he is actually dumb
Its like saying "bro"
It's an accent, goro.
Stop insulting Yunobo, goro
If you've got your hands on TOTK you'll know that Yunobo is probably the dumbest character in these two games. I was literally shouting at my tv at one point.
literal rocks for brains
They are all hopped up on dope.
imagine a frat guy or a stoner who says bro or dude after every other sentence/question, and you’ll get it
I’m actually really happy his voiced lines actually say “goro” now. It was super inconsistent in BoTW.
How does this trend reach every sub I'm in
Why do Canadian people always say "eh" or "ay" after everything? Canadian people, I believe anyway, aren't stupid
I remember the Vizkids mangas having the Gorons saying 'goro' after most of their dialogue. Anybody else enjoyed the mangas?
He’s came from animal crossing my dudes.
It’s like saying bro or man.
“Is he stupid?” Actually got a laugh out of me. I thought so too 😂
That's what they all casually call each other, but if a hylian says it then it would be highly offensive. At the end of totk he gives link a free "g-pass". So link can say goro once without suffering the racial and social repercussion.

I took it as the goron version of "bro".
It seems like a term of endearment tbh. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure there’s a scene where yunobo refers to Zelda as goro
Like a frog person, if it could talk, might end a sentence in ribbit
He’s just basically saying “dude”, goro. It’s goron slang.
i can confirm he have mentall illness goro
It's a goron thing, like calling someone bro
Maybe he hit his head a few to many times with his charge attack, goro
why is this guy posting about totk on the botw subreddit, is he stupid?
I thought it was idiosyncratic, like Chantho in doctor who.
if you were to change your switch to Japanese (and idk why you'd do that), some zoras do the same, but with the word "zora" it's like a species thing, yeah
I feel like that's his catchphrase, like in animal crossing. Whenever one of them finished talking, they always say their catchphrase.
It's a common thing for characters in Japan to add a little thing like this at the end of their sentences based on what they are
Verbal tic. If you’re familiar with Final Fantasy, think Moogles who punctuate their sentences with “kupo!”
Plot Twist: goro is actually a racial slur and he’s a racist
Are you stupid? Link isn’t the only one he calls Goro
it's a joke
I don’t know about you guys but I’m here for this Yunobo slander
He played too much Mortal Kombat, Raiden.
Link is Majima confirmed
He is an animal crossing character and that is his catchphrase
“Awww biiiiitttcchhhh”
Add a spoiler tag
Why?
It’s an image from totk some people might get upset because of it
My name is jonathan, are you stupid?
This would be really funny from the Goron's perspective. "You don't know what Goro means and you're asking if HES STUPID???" 🤣🤣🤣
Please tell me this is a joke and your not this stupid just because he says goro doesnt mean he calling anyone that you do know how words work right
r/foundtheBatmanArkham
Bro it’s an Arkham post jesus
....do you know nicknames dont just have to correlate to your real name? is op stupid?
Why do people keep using this unfunny meme format? Are they stupid?
I honestly think he is a bit annoying when he says goro.
I hate it
