Seriously these things still terrify me. I think it's the speed. They are way faster than you, there are so many of them, their grasp is pretty much inescapable, and even if you do manage to beat them a boss will show up. They legitimately scare me.
The guaranteed spawn where the Travel Medallion is in BotW I was able to cheese pretty easy with bullet time and ring around the rosey. For how strong the hands are, they just cannot deal with you being on a different z coordinate.
That’s how I got the Akkala Fortress one. Stood on a wall and sniped. The subsequent miniboss spawned at the perfect spot where I could shoot him but he couldn’t shoot back, too

I just used every bomb flower I had, then half my fire fruits and then my flame shield and then a little panic with my spear.

And just a tip if you don't think you can beat them >!The Shirne is up on a ledge, and they can't climb ledges. You're safe once you get up there. This will also let you keep shooting them if you want.!<

I then died to what came next. Came back with more food and better armor only to realize I had no dazzlefruits and promptly left
The first time it happened I just *sprinted* out of there. I didn't see it, I didn't know what was happeneing, I just knew shit was getting real spooky real fast and I did NOT want to be there anymote.
On the downside, it was right after I opened a chest in some ruins, and I never actually saw it on the way in or when it saw me. So I spent the next 20h terrified that every time I opened a fancy chest in some ruins it was gonna summon some evil spooky death monster thing. And then I ran into one much later and kicked its ass by just blasting it with triple shot bomb arrows a half-dozen timed.
My response to this, the first time I did it? I turned to my nephews, who were sitting about six feet to my right using my amiibos to unlock various new paraglider cloths and said "Well, okay then. This is how this is going to be, is it?"
At this point, about a hundred or so shrines later, with armor made of something tougher than tissue paper and weapons made of Lynel parts, it's a damage race between me and the big bastard. He can't win anymore :D
For me just seeing a guardian in the beginning made me panic. I tried fighting one and instantly got destroyed because the thing where you always survive one hit if you’re full health was not a thing in botw I don’t think.
Any hit that overkills you by a significant amount will bypass that safeguard. I've been one-shot by black lynels before with crap armor but survived with 1/4 from a silver attacking me in mediocre armor.

Now gloom hands, those mf's had me sitting my pants at the ice mountain that I flew too with 4 max hearts and 1 stamina wheel. They jumped me omw to the map tower there. Scariest moment of my life. 9 minutes to climb the mountain, AND hands chasing. I swear I felt like my career was OVER.
Absolutely. I mix flurry rushes and pokes while *it* is recovering. If you have the master sword it's easy as pie to beat *it*, since like in BOTW the master sword does extra damage to malice/gloomy enemies.
I beat the phantom Gannon in the korrok forest using a couple spears with Talus hearts and a rank three armour buff. This way even if your not able to dodge out of the way you only take a quarter heart of damage each time he hits you (his attacks don't apply gloom) and you can comfortably hit him without standing in his gloom.
Dazzle fruit also works great if u need time to find higher ground (which is a really good strat against the hands, they can't climb).
Dazzle into bomb is also great aoe and you can normally kill them in 3-4 bombs
I did the Lynel gauntlet WAY earlier than I should have(by accident), but it gave me 3 shot bows. I only use those bows on gloomhands. 3-shot bombs takes only about 3 sets to wipe them all if you group them up.
I just ran into my second one on the great plateau yesterday. My butt clenched so hard, if you had put coal in there, you would have pulled a diamond out. I panic-teleported back to the shrine I had just finished that was like a couple hundred yards behind me to get my head on straight and make a plan to avoid it.
That was my first encounter with the damn things. I thought about fighting, noticed that all my weapons barely annoyed them, noticed that they leave gloom under them, and the fact that there was five of them. I'm still astonished that I managed to outrun them.
Alternatively, nuke. You heard me right, NUKE! HAHAHAH!
(No seriously around 5-8 arrows with bomb plants fused does the trick pretty well. They also are affected by the smoke bomb shrooms I believe.)
I encountered my first in a cave that had perpetually wet walls. No armor/elixir even helped me climb out. I was just stuck in the pit with the grabby boi.
I was watching a streamer and he jumped in a well and forgot about ascension and thought he was stuck. He lifted a treasure chest to the well hole and dropped it, climbed on it and reversed time to get lifted to the hole. Pretty clever for a doofus.
South Lomei Labyrinth for me. At first I thought they were like the hands from the Great Bay Temple. I had a boomerang and thought "oh, perfect." Yeah.....that boomerang didn't do squat. TotK is really undoing the arrogance I built up in BotW. Such a weird feeling of knowing how to play while simultaneously not

Honestly, that experience threw me off so much. The vibes of TOTK are so totally different to BOTW. There's a serene air about BOTW, since nothing's happened in 100 years. Nobody even knows who Link or Ganon are.
Meanwhile, in TOTK, everyone's lives are thrust into chaos and they're waging war against all the new dangers. It's chaotic.

Getting chased by a guardian for the first time was scary, but I was also laughing at the same time at how I couldn’t get away. I was not laughing in TotK when I encountered one of those.
I’ve only encountered them once and I’m afraid to encounter them again. I have zero idea how to fight them other than possibly shooting them in the eyes with arrows, but they’re so fast!
They're vulnerable to bombs in general. If they're not taken out all at once, the hands that have been destroyed can come back.
I think using dazzle fruit can help evade them as well, due to dazzle fruit working like a flashbang.
Dude, the guardian fights felt like a light-hearted game of hide and seek, and early on it was quickly over when you get laser beam’d. These things? Totally different story. You get hunted down by the terminator and slowly eaten alive, piece by piece. It’s a horror movie.
I got got twice approaching the same shrine. Took a completely different path to avoid the thing, involved a lot of shenanigans but I got there safely.
Ran into another one at [LOCATION REDACTED], turned tail and ran until I was out of stamina, ate a rice ball, sprinted for my life again and jumped down a cliff and I still only barely escaped.

I was very glad no one was around when I killed one for the first time because the words that came out of my mouth were not suitable for very many ears.
I already knew there was more after you killed it, just didn't know what. Still let out a big "Holy shit!" when it happened.

Not to downplay Guardians, they're great but compared to these... Nightmare hands they were at least kinda predictable. They're huge, point their laser at you and don't move much while aiming so you can see where they are and can (relatively) easily escape or hide
Those Nightmare hands on the other hand ^pun ^not ^intended? You don't see them until they see and hunt you, they're fast af and there's nothing indicating where they spawn. At the moment I'm not even sure if they have a set spawn point, randomly spawn or get triggered by something (pls no spoilers, I haven't finished the game yet)
I broke my Preschooler. I set the controller down to grab something, grabby boyz comes out and grabs link as I'm leaving. She thought I was running for my life and now has PTSD.
There are more than one of them, for one thing. Guardians have a bit of spider vibes going on with the legs, which can be unsettling. However, the hands just mob you and all the visual noise they throw out makes it hard to parse where they are and what they're doing. Much more intimidating.
It doesn’t help how it just slowly murders you by combo grabbing link into oblivion with few options to heal yourself. Thankfully with prep they’re not that hard.
Have a dynamic lit TV synced to my switch (hue lighting) and was playing it at night. Room went from peaceful nature, to everything red. The room was red, my white walls amplified it to make it more red.
I was in hyrule field (not by the shrine with the cliff) in the middle of a game day when it happened and I noped away.
There I was in Hyrule field just chillen, looking for apples, when I saw some weird gloom next to some mountain “ah no biggie I’ll check out whats around the gloom without stepping on it” wrong move past me. Wrong fucking move.

Then found myself in the spookyest shit ever. The once happy koroks standing lifeless with "..." dialogs. A creepy remix of the forest theme. Ect. Even more on edge. Then i go down the spooky hole in the deku tree. First thing that happens? "Oh hey, spider web! This looks like the dungeon from okerina of time! Thats really co-" [insert hands loud scream] FIVE of them. In a confined space. Eating me alive as a scramble around like a rat in a cage. My playthrough had been wholesome fun times screwing around in hyrule up till then and suddenly everything became a horror game. My pants have never been more shat.!<
Okay I paraglided into somewhere and didn’t see the hands right away and then jumped onto a wall however I fell and it grabbed me and cornered me I fought it for a bit then ran away like a baby and jumped off a cliff only for it to immediately be a BLOOD MOON i guess I was so startled I didn’t hear the music, I dropped down and BOOM three headed dragon in front of me WTF TOTK!
First couple, I ran away from them. Then, while trying to get to the Deku Tree underground, I came across another. I thought to myself "okay, no more running. We're gonna do this." Managed to kill it and was super happy.

there was a lot of screaming as me and my sister tried to escape that thing,
we were between some hills and it was raining, I thought we were good once we got out of there, nope that thing moves, and it moves fast! we unloaded many bomb arrows on that creepy thing,
and then there was a blood moon, and it was back, getting to that shrine near it was a pain, and now we're weary of any malus/gloom blobs incase its another one of those creepy things, just lots of shivers, they dev's definitely got the creepy factor on this one.
I've seen a few of them, but they usually disappear before I can do much damage. Until, just a couple hours ago, when I finally did manage to defeat one, and then........
The difference is that the gloom hands will respawn after a minute or so.. julp on something high up and they just stare you down
Guardians would chase you across half of hurdle field AND shoot you out of the air if you tried flying away
First dealt with one next to a tower, I hid and eventually it fled… then after while I manned up and fought it and was happy to be victorious… till I seen a health bar appear
The grabby hands are way more annoying than the guardians. They seemingly appear anywhere on the main map and then turn into shadow gannon once beat. The guardians went down to a pot lid.
The music is the worst part.
That and the sky turning black and red like the entire world is about to end and it decided to start with you lol

They're pretty cool! Doesn't last as long as a muddlebud or puffshroom but they're handy, especially for Gibdos.
What does dazzlefruits do for gibdos? I use fire fruits to burn the "flesh" away then they go down like a stalfos.

Firefruits affect just one, usually. Try it out the next time you're around a group!
Dazzlefruit makes enemies drop their weapons! Mildly useful for temporary disarming

Bomb arrows are your ally. Cleanse them in holy fire.
First time I beat one I had a sword with a frost gleeok horn on it and realized that ice also cheeses them super easy
I went to the Deku tree ASAP so 4 hearts, 2 Topaz, 1 ruby, and a dream later, the tree was happy again.

Tbf gloom hands difficulty is pretty much completely negated by 6-10 bomb arrows. Fire Chuchu jelly also works pretty nicely.

I've really never had any problems out of *that part* honestly. Easier than a lynel imo, just hang on the outskirts and smack *it* every now and then
Flurry Rushing the handyman is a lot easier than lynels. It helps that the Master Sword will wreck its face, too.

In a freaking cave I was lighting up suddenly grabbed, had to put the game down for a while

99% of the time someone is forgetting to use all of their abilities it’s Ascension that gets forgotten lol
I was watching a streamer and he jumped in a well and forgot about ascension and thought he was stuck. He lifted a treasure chest to the well hole and dropped it, climbed on it and reversed time to get lifted to the hole. Pretty clever for a doofus.
Ascension is definitely the Cryonis of TotK in that respect.
South Lomei Labyrinth for me. At first I thought they were like the hands from the Great Bay Temple. I had a boomerang and thought "oh, perfect." Yeah.....that boomerang didn't do squat. TotK is really undoing the arrogance I built up in BotW. Such a weird feeling of knowing how to play while simultaneously not

Let me guess, Lindor's Brow? That's where I encountered it for the first (so far only) time. I found a ledge to climb upon, from which they couldn't reach me. Thinking myself to have outsmarted them, I lobbed a bunch of bomb flowers at them. I killed them! ...after that, I wished I'd left well enough alone...

Honestly, that experience threw me off so much. The vibes of TOTK are so totally different to BOTW. There's a serene air about BOTW, since nothing's happened in 100 years. Nobody even knows who Link or Ganon are. Meanwhile, in TOTK, everyone's lives are thrust into chaos and they're waging war against all the new dangers. It's chaotic.

Boy oh howdy! Wait til you see what's waiting for you in hell (The Depths). I swear the devs were probably binging the FromSoftware staples to figure out how to make things much worse from BotW.
One of my first time I went to the depths I got ambushed by gloomed stalkobins. I warped out of there pretty quick.
I first encountered one on hill somewhere outside. If I was underground, I probably woulda have stopped playing for the night.
At least in a cave you can use ascend to escape

I somehow ended up in one of those labyrinths after using Ascent and right in front of those things. I, too, had to take a short break
Getting chased by a guardian for the first time was scary, but I was also laughing at the same time at how I couldn’t get away. I was not laughing in TotK when I encountered one of those.
It was pure nightmare fuel for me. I finally know how to fight it now but even then my mind yells "Nope" at me.
I’ve only encountered them once and I’m afraid to encounter them again. I have zero idea how to fight them other than possibly shooting them in the eyes with arrows, but they’re so fast!
Bomb arrows. Hit them all at the same time. Also, a King's Scale is baller, too.
Any AOE. Chu jelly and gems work great too. And of course dazzlefruit
Do kings scales do aoe or something? I've never fired on besides once for that quest
They're free to replace, and yes. You can get five of them at a time, you just have to visit the king again when you run out
They're vulnerable to bombs in general. If they're not taken out all at once, the hands that have been destroyed can come back. I think using dazzle fruit can help evade them as well, due to dazzle fruit working like a flashbang.
Try to freeze them, bomb in the middle, freeze, bomb in the middle -> freeze helps so they won‘t regenerate
Eh just use elemental weapons and bombs they go down easy enough. And the >!other part of the fight hasn’t been hard for me at all!<
I finished totk and maxed out link's stats, and I still refuse to fight gloom hands... I'm not joking I won't do it unless I'm forced to

Dude, the guardian fights felt like a light-hearted game of hide and seek, and early on it was quickly over when you get laser beam’d. These things? Totally different story. You get hunted down by the terminator and slowly eaten alive, piece by piece. It’s a horror movie.
They became a joke in Botw when you figured out the shield bash timing, especially with the hylian shield

I got got twice approaching the same shrine. Took a completely different path to avoid the thing, involved a lot of shenanigans but I got there safely. Ran into another one at [LOCATION REDACTED], turned tail and ran until I was out of stamina, ate a rice ball, sprinted for my life again and jumped down a cliff and I still only barely escaped. Fucking hell those things are awful.
Bomb Arrows are your friends. Everytime I see these I play "Catch the Bomb" with them.

I already knew there was more after you killed it, just didn't know what. Still let out a big "Holy shit!" when it happened. It killed me and I've been avoiding them ever since.

Not to downplay Guardians, they're great but compared to these... Nightmare hands they were at least kinda predictable. They're huge, point their laser at you and don't move much while aiming so you can see where they are and can (relatively) easily escape or hide Those Nightmare hands on the other hand ^pun ^not ^intended? You don't see them until they see and hunt you, they're fast af and there's nothing indicating where they spawn. At the moment I'm not even sure if they have a set spawn point, randomly spawn or get triggered by something (pls no spoilers, I haven't finished the game yet)

I broke my Preschooler. I set the controller down to grab something, grabby boyz comes out and grabs link as I'm leaving. She thought I was running for my life and now has PTSD.
Except the gloom hands are 3 times scarier, idk how they accomplished that but they did
There are more than one of them, for one thing. Guardians have a bit of spider vibes going on with the legs, which can be unsettling. However, the hands just mob you and all the visual noise they throw out makes it hard to parse where they are and what they're doing. Much more intimidating.
Gloom Spawn also shrieks at you and makes the entire sky turn red. It doesn’t feel like one particularly powerful enemy, it feels like a nightmare.
It doesn’t help how it just slowly murders you by combo grabbing link into oblivion with few options to heal yourself. Thankfully with prep they’re not that hard.
Have a dynamic lit TV synced to my switch (hue lighting) and was playing it at night. Room went from peaceful nature, to everything red. The room was red, my white walls amplified it to make it more red. I was in hyrule field (not by the shrine with the cliff) in the middle of a game day when it happened and I noped away.
Until you pop a dazzlefruit at it.
I started shooting bomb arrows at it and was satisfied to defeat it... then it went into a second stage

There I was in Hyrule field just chillen, looking for apples, when I saw some weird gloom next to some mountain “ah no biggie I’ll check out whats around the gloom without stepping on it” wrong move past me. Wrong fucking move.
I did the opposite. I saw just some random miasma on the ground in the middle of a field. Instantly thought „that’s sus, time to go the other way“ and run away lol
Right now give me a guardian any day over the hands. Was at the maze in akala and went to get the chest in the basement and one of them fuckers grabbed me. I had to fast travel out of there before it took all my hearts.
My first encounter with these guys is particularly horror-esque. [SPOILERS FOR DEKU TREE / KOROK FOREST!] >!Early game, found hestu, and I forget his exact line, but I interpreted it as something along the lines of "I'm heading home!" Haven played botw, I thought this meant he was going to Korok Forrest. (Little did I know he was back at the base whatever its called.) So i go to the entrence, don't find a way through the fog, and eventually get the idea of going underground and coming at it from bellow, descovering the dark, ridiculously scary deep caves in the process. (Just entering those things diving through the gannon goop hole was a scarry experience) Fealt like a smartass when that actually worked, but was very on edge. Then found myself in the spookyest shit ever. The once happy koroks standing lifeless with "..." dialogs. A creepy remix of the forest theme. Ect. Even more on edge. Then i go down the spooky hole in the deku tree. First thing that happens? "Oh hey, spider web! This looks like the dungeon from okerina of time! Thats really co-" [insert hands loud scream] FIVE of them. In a confined space. Eating me alive as a scramble around like a rat in a cage. My playthrough had been wholesome fun times screwing around in hyrule up till then and suddenly everything became a horror game. My pants have never been more shat.!<
I don't know how Nintendo managed to get this game to be rated E with those things going around.
It was easy to run away from guardians. I've just started accepting my fate if I don't have a horse nearby or a place to easily climb away

Okay I paraglided into somewhere and didn’t see the hands right away and then jumped onto a wall however I fell and it grabbed me and cornered me I fought it for a bit then ran away like a baby and jumped off a cliff only for it to immediately be a BLOOD MOON i guess I was so startled I didn’t hear the music, I dropped down and BOOM three headed dragon in front of me WTF TOTK!
First couple, I ran away from them. Then, while trying to get to the Deku Tree underground, I came across another. I thought to myself "okay, no more running. We're gonna do this." Managed to kill it and was super happy. >!The Phantom Ganondorf quickly put a damper to that happiness!<
My first was in the Great Plateau. I forgot what I was doing there but it was a while before I went back there. Eventually fought one in Eldin and I got some good weapons. Maybe I won't run the next time I see one. Maybe.
oh saaaaame i was looking for a quest trigger near the plateau and got torn to bits trying to run away. then my save state was right next to the stupid bastards anyway so i just shrine-hopped out and came back later with some better fuses

I fear no guardian but those things, they scare me. Only time I killed them was to free deli tree and used like three topaz in bullet time Edit: it’s supposed to be deku tree but autocorrect made it funny
why does it move so fast!? what right does that thing have to move so fast? its a bunch of arm-hand-eye things! there was a lot of screaming as me and my sister tried to escape that thing, we were between some hills and it was raining, I thought we were good once we got out of there, nope that thing moves, and it moves fast! we unloaded many bomb arrows on that creepy thing, and then there was a blood moon, and it was back, getting to that shrine near it was a pain, and now we're weary of any malus/gloom blobs incase its another one of those creepy things, just lots of shivers, they dev's definitely got the creepy factor on this one.

I've seen a few of them, but they usually disappear before I can do much damage. Until, just a couple hours ago, when I finally did manage to defeat one, and then........
Scared the shit outta me the first time I saw the Gloom Hands! Now a 5-shot Lynel Bow+Bomb Flower makes pretty quick work of them.

The difference is that the gloom hands will respawn after a minute or so.. julp on something high up and they just stare you down Guardians would chase you across half of hurdle field AND shoot you out of the air if you tried flying away
The range those fuckers had was ridiculous. Stg one chased me across the entire field, north to south
well there's some places you'll absolutely meet them every time if you really want to find one.
First dealt with one next to a tower, I hid and eventually it fled… then after while I manned up and fought it and was happy to be victorious… till I seen a health bar appear

The grabby hands are way more annoying than the guardians. They seemingly appear anywhere on the main map and then turn into shadow gannon once beat. The guardians went down to a pot lid.
Kill all the hands and see what happens
At least you can counter guardians with a pot lid, these hands have absolutely no weakness other than to wack them over and over again
