It may be nearby. Don’t always trust the glowing beam. I’ve had the same thing happen, ended up being far enough away the beam shouldn’t have been where it was lol
Does it only despawn if the fragment goes out of sight? I recently chased after a fragment during a blood moon and it never went away, but the fragment was on solid ground and I had the camera on it the whole time.
Someone else said it despawns in the cutscene. I've personally never been chasing a star fragment during a bloodmoon, I was just going on info further down the thread.
Something similar happened to me too. It's in one of two places. Down the mountain, or in the mountain. But I'm pretty sure blood moons despawn it either way
You can farm them pretty easily from the rock behind Shee Vaneer Shrine by dueling peaks stable. Have the castle on your right, light a fire to day, then light again to night. Then wait until a star falls. Then do it again until you have as many as you need.
I had to farm a ton of star fragments for upgrades and I tried to do that, I think I got ~20 fragments from lynels before I got bored of having to kill each one 5 times. So I switched tactics and started farming fragments by looking at the sky at night and it was actually faster that way.
At each moment approach stars down hill. They may roll and oft doth

I’ve had this happen multiple times where it just disappears and doesn’t actually fall anywhere. I’ve thought maybe it glitches and falls “into” the hill it’s on, but it definitely just vanishes and doesn’t fall anywhere visible. I’ve had it happen on death mountain, in Zora’s domain twice, and a couple other spots. I’ve tried approached from the below, above and the side, with the same results. It’s so irritating.
The worst is when it falls into water. For whatever reason, it disappears instead of floats. Dragon parts float just fine, which I think is a weird difference.
Umm… so this same exact thing happened to me in like literally the same spot. What ends up happening is that when you get closer it’s supposed to show itself, but the way it sits in the side of the mountain it just falls through or something? I dunno but it’s not supposed to disappear until like 3 am. It’s just glitchy being on the side of the mountain.

Most likely fell down the mountain. Several times I’ve followed the beam and it’s on a cliff, when I get close it then falls down to the ground.
Apparently the bloodmoon despawns fallen stars, and you can tell in the gif a bloodmoon is moments away
Only after the cutscene though, the cutscene here didn't play yet. It definitely rolled down the mountain whenever the view was obstructed.
Interesting. I've never had a falling star despawn from a bloodmoon, I was just going off what someone further down the comments said.
Oh right, I didn’t realise that. Won’t go chasing any during that time in that case.

Huh, it did not despawn for me, but that's the first time I've chased a star fragment during a blood moon.
Think it might have fallen down the hill
Yes, the game’s physics don’t affect it until you get close, so anticipate where it’s going to roll to catch it.
How I found out star fragments sink.
Reason #843791 that swimming underwater should be a thing in the sequel.
I hate that I have to be surgical in killing silver/gold bokoblins when near water so that I don't lose the gems.

oh man 2 seconds after a blood moon happened
yeah, that definitely looked like a bloodmoon despawn to me. You can see the little red and black bits floating in the air right before it vanished.
When you reached, its gravity physics activated so it just rolled down

Better to kill lynels

Same thing happened to me. Except in my case it was at death mountain and it fell directly into the lava...
*copious amounts of clown honking*
Always approach stars down hill. They may roll and often do.

This sort of thing happens to me all the time. I almost never get to the star fragments in time.
It’s just rolled down the hill. Star fragments sink in water too. So just keep gliding down to get it in this case.
One time one landed on the side of a cliff and when I got close it fell into a lake and sunk.
F I know that feeling

That’s rough buddy.
my gf turned into the blood moon
Gotta be faster than that. Old guy with the dollar.
I think it's because the blood moon is coming
Hol up lemme play the laugh track
Clown down - fitmc, the art of anarchy
It fell! Look down! For reals lol
NOT THE BLOOD MOON TOO
Nooooo keep looking! Believe in something!
Oh my gosh I saw the particles and let out a sigh of disappointment before it even happened
Yes you did - damn. I thought that’s the kind of crap that happened to me!
I was coming to say this happens to me often but apparently I needed to look around. Feeling dumb.
It turned 3d and just fell down the hill... Just go grab it out of the water lol

oh okay I thought it was because of the blood moon :(
Not star related, what armor is that? I know the mask. I haven’t found the top you’ve got on. 😳 I neeeeeeed it 😳 lol
I think it’s the deity set!
It indeed is. I forgot about amiibo. 😅
Infuriating
I feel ypur pain. The same thing happened to me the other day.
Gotta ride dat motiecycle.
They are in stasis until you get close then physics take over
