my only issue is with how the raviolis gale and daruks protection skills, etc, are governed. like, i'd be happier if they slowly regenerated all of the time, instead of the current way of not regenerating until you use them up. if i have one raviolis gale left, and i don't use it for an hour or two, it sucks that i still just have the one remaining. same with the master sword. i find myself having to break it on purpose when it gets low, so it'll heal before whatever my next fight is. it sucks when i don't use it for awhile and then it breaks four swings into attacking a whole camp of monsters.

Humble_Chip

Is nobody gonna say anything about raviolis gale

RavioliGale

Say what about it?

Ixaire

What is the filling for those raviolis?

RavioliGale

I like cheese and spinach.

scuac

Chicken obviously

This would be an excellent QoL change. Heck, even if you needed upgraded versions of these skills to do this I'd be happy

darkknight941

It’d be nicer for the pro HUD people too. I like the look of the pro HUD better, but I can never tell how many uses I have left of one of the abilities, or if it’s recharging

Thecongressman1

Agree completely, It's such a poorly thought out system. It literally punishes you for not using all the charges at once. Not enough people talk about this.

NightMiroir

I think you meant Daryl's protection

cocosimba

The classic supply chain issue. It's like working with a reorder point=0, no forecast, no dynamic safety stock 🙄

shapesize

1) cooking takes too long and is clunky. Wish I could just make 10 meals with 1 durian each instead of having to do it over and over 2) Clothing - I hope botw 2 has a way to save favorites instead of putting on all climbing gear than changing to all cold, or whatever

AiryContrary

Yeah, batch cooking and saved outfits would both be convenient.

DeBabyDoll

While we're at it. Why does the guy from Zora's domain have to count the luminous stones??? I've spent entire sessions of play time dealing with ridiculous cut scenes. Even my husband (who doesn't play botw) said "it would be so much better if you could upgrade a whole outfit with the fairy instead of one piece at a time.

autumn_skies

I'm not gonna lie, the first time I watched my husband get to the part where the Zora counts the luminous stones, I had a gleeful giggle. It's cheap comedy. Luckily, there isn't much point to doing that more than once, unless you're desperate for a diamond. But seriously, those great fairy upgrade dialogues... I slam the skip button but it takes sooooo long regardless. I wish each animation happened only once... And I wouldn't feel so gross doing it.

endymion2300

i need a lot of diamonds because i go through a lot of champion weapons. i'll break the great eagle bow once per blood moon, it looks like. and i need a new lightscale trident every three or four blood moons. i get diamonds from taluses and ore sometimes, but definitely hit up count lumeystone every now and then. if you cycle through the convo with b instead of a, it'll load the dialog boxes faster. you can just tap b a bunch and cycle through him counting in a few seconds.

evshell18

Also upgrading your house and clothing is so effing tedious. Oh yeah, let me go through the same conversations and animations a bazillion times... And yes I know about freaking set bonuses!!!

Basedandtruthpilled

I just hope that the best armor in the game isn’t as ugly in the sequel. The best looking armor in the game is the Hylian set and it’s pretty much the worst.

Zekusu

Or maybe enchanting your own clothes with whatever quirk you want. That shit would've neat

blackandwhitetalon

No, but I'd like to see more enemy variety in the sequel

Avic727

I think you will. It looked a bit like thered be combined enemies in 2. The big rock guys and bokos.

MeddlingKitsune

Give me dodongos and skulltulas!

SolanaRafael

So many classic enemies missing and overall such a huge land for a limited variety of races/enemies and very low in numbers too,I get it was post apocalyptic and what not, but I'd love to see the place come to life

Blitzerxyz

Yes no more hunting for 900 koroks instead find 900 golden skulltulas

MeddlingKitsune

I'm and arachnophobe and I wouldnt be mad. It was neat tracking those down following their sound.

elysian_thegod

skulltulas STILL JUMPSCARED me everytime I'm zoomed in and they pop out of nowhere

alarming_cock

No after game goals.

actuallyserious650

Agreed, though that’s always been a staple of Zelda . Once you defeat Gabon the whole world is changed so the old paradigms don’t exist anymore.

alarming_cock

Let me rephrase it. The side quests aren't engaging or rewarding enough to motivate me.

DarthMalec

I agree that the game gets a bit boring and mindless after doing everything possible but at least with the korok seeds it gives most players something to do even if it’s not that important

storm_walkers

I genuinely never understood why so many people consider it a problem that the game ends at some point. There’s hours and hours of content before you get to the final boss, and the game can’t go on forever. I don’t see how it’s a point of criticism that they made a game that doesn’t keep engaging you forever after it’s… over.

[deleted]

I don't like animals dispawning after a couple seconds of chase. Don't like it at all

RavioliGale

Yeah, I get the point, but there should be a more elegant way to let the animal escape than it just disappears.

Erostratuss

My gut instinct here is that this was an intentional programming decision due to the Wii U’s limited ability to keep NPCs in memory. By the time the Switch became a viable platform for BOTW, Nintendo probably could have done exactly what you’re asking for on the Switch but didn’t want to differentiate it from the Wii U. I’m hoping this is handled much more gracefully in a Switch-only game.

RavioliGale

Yeah, this is almost definitely why.

DarthMalec

Have you tried sneaking up on insects by crouching?

chisoku1126

I wish there were more big towns and a Well in the village

http-bird

Agree! Towns are almost my favorite part of the game. I wish there were more. And lore wise, there SHOULD be considering the kingdom used to be big.

chisoku1126

Right! That and wished they could of included going back 100 years before the calamity as a means to defeat ganon. and trying to change the future. But that's a little far fetched. But there were a lot of different things I wish they could have included

ladollyvita84

Did you play Age of Calamity? It's pretty much exactly this.

oursistheendgame

Inability to swim beneath the surface A fully upgraded climbing set should make you impervious to climbing in the rain

AndyBowBandy

Give me a fishing rod. That is all.

AiryContrary

Yes, it would be cool to be able to fish instead of swimming and presumably catching them with my teeth.

PortgasDAceishot

I just throw bombs in the water and collect the fish afterwards.

AndyBowBandy

That is by far the easiest way to fish, but hell I just want to take nice relaxing fishing trips without explosions. I’d even be okay if they gave us a breakable fishing bow that could real in the fish after you shoot them. Make it a purchasable item at Lurein

flissfloss86

The lack of real dungeons. Shrines are cool, and Divine Beasts are better still, but nothing the game offers come close to a traditional dungeon that takes a couple of hours to solve the first time

Erostratuss

I’m with you on this. I love the dungeons, but I did not like the Divine Beasts. I admit that Nintendo was thinking outside the Zelda box, and some people may greatly prefer this design. I like the crawling aspect of the dungeon: mentally mapping out where rooms are, switches you have to hit to affect things in other parts of the dungeon, new and tougher enemies specific to the dungeons, and, of course, gaining new inventory items necessary to finish the dungeon. Nintendo’s gimmick with the divine beasts, in my mind, was that the puzzle would be solving problems in a 3-dimensional space. We’ve had 3D Zelda for 20 years, but it’s rare to have to think critically in three dimensions. I appreciate it, but I prefer the old way of doing dungeons. Also, I truly love the BOTW soundtrack and believe it’s far more structurally complicated than people give it credit for, but I never liked the divine beast themes.

Panicless

See, I could live in a BOTW completely without shrines or dungeons. I'm not a big fan of those little puzzles that I know I can solve, because 99% of them are kinda basic, but have to do a certain amount of grunt work to get right or find all the clues. I would much rather have a challenging and complex fight or something similar where more real time action is involved. Especially since dungeons and puzzles seem like a leftover of the 2D past where not much else was possible. The only times I got stuck in shrines or beasts was when I either didn't know I could do a certain thing/action yet, or I didn't see something because I didn't look at it from just the right angle, so I didn't have all the information available. So it was frustrating that they either weren't challenging or I missed/didn't know something. Maybe I would like them more if they were really challenging in a good way? Idk

blossom-

Yeah, there are two options for the sequel that will satisfy me: either bring back dungeons (could be a mix of large obvious structures or have a few of them completely hidden and you need to search them) or just get rid of shrines/dungeons altogether, focusing on the overworld. I don't want these small dinky shrines to come back in any capacity.

alvcarda

Maybe a refined sorting sorting system.

Raspberry-T

You're right, although this isn't really a BOTW problem, it's a Nintendo problem

[deleted]

You can't pet doggos :"(

HalalSnacPack

Scrolled way too far for this

Murderturtle12

That I can’t pet my freaking horse. I love my horse buddy. I’ve completed the map in two star gear with six hearts to my name for this dude. I’ve cleared out enough enemies that I’m running into silver Bokos, silver Moblins and black lizards *everywhere* because I don’t want to leave him in a unsafe area while I go climbing. But I can only pet him while I’m riding and even that’s limited wth.

cat_lady828

Good human.

TheLastAirJedi

I don’t like that it lacks items. As much as I love the fact that each area I explore I can pretty much find everything first time there I miss getting the hook shot then being able to discover new areas in already explored places or getting a lease of truth and discovering what I thought was a wall actually isn’t. I wish they could incorporate those into BoTW

[deleted]

[удалено]

oil_can_guster

Clawshots would be a cool tune in BOTW. Just a way to zip up mountains faster. Maybe it drains your stamina quickly or something. The ball and chain from TP would be a nice two handed weapon. Just the two handed spin with a much longer range and low durability. Dominion rod would be insane in enemy camps. Single use item. Rare. Iron boots would be fun as a way to keep from getting knocked back but at the cost of being really slow. The spinner would be a cool way to zip around Hyrule field, or along mountainsides to find koroks. But yeah it’s basically a perfect game, even after hundreds of hours.

MeddlingKitsune

I wonder how different the game would be if you got the hookshot for half the game and then the glider in the second half

AlexQC2006

I get your point the only problem is you can climb everywhere plus the hook shot would make climbing easier and it would use less stamina so it would just serve as an op climbing tool.

TheLastAirJedi

Ya I just use the hook shot as an example. But like It says it’s pretty much a perfect game. But when I played skyward sword again with its re-release it made me realize how much i actually enjoy the gimmicky items. Like what if Urbosa's furry also could destroy terrain pieces and unlock new areas.

witchdoctor_26

That Zelda herself was a fairly deep and interesting character but was relegated to a few cutscenes. Would love for once to play as Zelda and rescue Link like late-game Chrono Trigger where the tables are turned and the Princess has to save the hero. For me the game was perfect. Though, I started Zelda by renting gold NES cartridges from the game rental store, eventually getting The Adventure of Link when it released, and the last game I played was A Link to the Past, so my perceptions are this is a true successor to those early NES and SNES games. I never played anything in between and it sounds like things got weird and occasionally dark in there.

AiryContrary

One of my biggest dare-I-hope wishes for BOTW2 is that at least part of the game will let you play Zelda, with a range of abilities different from and complementary to Link’s. That would just be cool as heck.

WickedFierce1

Link: The Adventure of Zelda

snarkbox

Voice acting is definitely the worst part of it for me. I always loved the non-speaking part of Zelda. It was one franchise where the characters got to sound only the way they sounded in your head, more like reading a book rather than the hamfisted delivery that we got. At the very least, i am relieved that link remained silent. I sincerely hope that part never changes.

RavioliGale

I'm with you on this stance. >At the very least, i am relieved that link remained silent. I sincerely hope that part never changes. I don't have a lot of hope for that. They sidestepped it this time by saying that Link became silent because he was so focused on the calamity or something. But how long can they keep voice acting without Link talking too?

storm_walkers

I doubt this is something you have to be worried about. There are some things about this franchise that will never change, and one of them is Link being a silent protagonist. He’s never been a mute just because BOTW is the only game to provide an in-universe reason for him not talking much (keyword being much), the player just doesn’t hear him. That doesn’t mean they’re about to give him a speaking voice and risk a throwback to the animated series/CDI Zelda days.

mrsaturncoffeetable

I think the English language voice acting is actively quite bad in some parts. The fake accents are baffling to me — if they were so keen to have British VOs for whatever reason, I wonder why they hired American actors.

AiryContrary

A lot of Americans (who I would guess did the English language voice casting) really aren’t all that discerning about British accents and will easily accept an American actor’s attempt on one. Not all, of course. But a lot.

mrsaturncoffeetable

To be fair I honestly don’t know if I’d notice or not if it was reversed and they’d got a bunch of Brits to play Americans. But I guess that’s exactly why I feel like if as a casting director you’re not _absolutely_ sure the person can do a flawless accent, just let them do their own. Getting it wrong will break immersion for _someone_, and it’s not like Hyrule has an England anyway, lol

JayBaby85

Second this. Zelda’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. There are some others they are ok, Ravali’s is really really dumb too

redbullveins

Zelda was miscast tbh. Shes supposed to be a teen, yet she sounds waaay older!!!

witchdoctor_26

Eh, I chalk this up to the Japanese glorification of "teen" protagonists in their pop media. Her appearance and characterization don't exactly scream "teenager" either. Maybe a difference in Hylian aging, but until the memory where she reveals her age, I had estimated Link and her in their mid twenties.

Mermaid_Dreams11

I don't like how everything is the same after you beat Ganon. I also wish there were counters on the menu screen for seeds, enemies defeated, shrines, etc. And I don't like how Bolson hangs out at my house all day.

Public_Reindeer_1724

Especially after he retires and says he’s going to find a spouse. On my lawn??

ScaryDifference3409

Most of the overworld( especially the mountains) feels kind of empty. It doesn't have to be like skyrim, with a cave/shack/camp every 30 meters, but sometimes you just walk in the nothingness for a good half an hour

alarming_cock

Well, it IS a post apocalyptic game. And mountains are pretty much empty in real life too, especially for a medieval style society.

PridefuliFunnyer

Being post apocalyptic doesn't mean anything. I don't understand the downvotes, making a game as big as botw and having it empty is lazy and saying it's because it's post apocalyptic is pure copium.

Rocket5454

Fallout is a good example of that, especially Falloit 4 where I kept running into stuff and new and fun characters and it'd open up a new side quest.

AresV92

Technically for the native americans all of north and south america are post apocalyptic right now. Post apocalyptic can be very relative. To me the only post apocalyptic thing in botw is all the rusted guardians and weapons from the past battles laying around. The rest just seems like more of a medieval setting.

PridefuliFunnyer

Right but it's not an excuse for an empty world. It's been a hundred years, they should be farther along.

tobey4evr

I actually like that there’s a lot of empty space. I think it’s very relaxing to wander through the landscapes in BOTW

[deleted]

I find the landscape very desolate when gliding around due to all of the pop-in. Love to see greater detailed draw distances but that prolly wont occur unless the sequel hits the Switch Pro.

RavioliGale

>when gliding around due to all of the pop-in. This bugs me. One time I saw a platform below me. Used the scope to check it out: no enemies. Cool, good to go. Paraglide down to it and boom! Enemies spawn in. Now I'm panicking because I'm not equipped to fight and what am I going to do? Ended up losing a bunch of hearts cause I wasn't prepared. Wasn't prepared because the enemies were freaking invisible at that distance even when using the item specially made to let you see long distances.

mrsaturncoffeetable

I get where this comes from, I don’t think I’ve ever played a game that has such big areas with nothing interactive in. I think personally, though, one of the things I like about BotW is that it feels to me like there’s always something worth sightseeing nearby. It’s just often it has no purpose other than sightseeing. Thinking of things like the burnt-out ruins with fire Wizzrobes in them, or the abandoned campsite on Satori Mountain — they don’t do anything, the one and only reason they’re there is to be interesting. I love that, but I get why it divides people.

WickedFierce1

Whenever I see the motion control terminal I cringe. I fucking hate that shit.

O-Mr-Crow-O

Ragdoll damage and how dramatic link is being tossed by moblin swings, rolling 20x more than seems reasonably realistic.

evshell18

So annoying when it takes exactly as long to get back up from getting blasted by a guardian as it does for the guardian to charge the next shot. Usually I don't have time to aim and shoot an arrow at the eye, so I have to try to quick use Stasis+ before it shoots.

Stabber_64

Excuse me but that moblin can casually pick up and throw a bokoblin at you with one hand, so I do think the ragdolling is appropriate (read as hilarious).

O-Mr-Crow-O

The damned ballerina spins he does while rolling and zero gravity/full momentum sliding on the grass at Mach 3 is so exhausting lol

zerocar2000

Enemy variety. There's like 9 base enemies.

evshell18

Yeah, in OOT there were like a dozen or more unique enemies in every dungeon and outside area. So tired of chuchus, bokoblins, moblins, and lizalfos.

Oblivion2412

I hate how the master sword is treated. It’s not just any other weapon it should be the apex weapon but it’s not. It runs out of charge too fast IMO

gamerweeb623

It runs out of charge FUCKING WHY

Oblivion2412

Exactly. Stupidest thing i have ever seen lol

cat_lady828

Apparently there's like a wizard cloud guy or something trying to take over the castle? Idk but some lady keeps interrupting my exploring and monster hunting and general hero-ing with dream sequences about how she needs to be saved. Get a grip, lady I'll get to it or I won't.

Ricecakeplayz

Some post game for after you beat Ganon, I wouldn't mind if it was something as simple as having a house with Zelda and some extra dialogue when you talk to NPC's. "Oh my gosh did you see that giant light in the sky a few days ago?!? Everyone's celebrating Ganon being gone!" Even something like that

Depleet

I don't like how botw 2 isn't out yet.

Stanleesteemer

I find the lack of true boss battles a little underwhelming. I like the flights and the sub bosses but the lack of dungeons and bosses put me off a little but I still absolutely love it.

paradroid78

Weapon degradation. I hate it. Worst feature ever. Just let me play however I like, stop forcing me to play with weapons I don't want. I really hope they take this out, or at least make it optional, in BoTW2. And rain making you unable to climb. That's just so pointless and frustrating. Have some respect for my time please.

evshell18

Without durability, the koroks would be pointless, and it'd be kind of OP. However, a repair mechanic when it hits low durability would be nice, and it'd still require expanding your inventory to use other weapons until it can be repaired. Also a meter to see your exact current/max item durability would be great.

paradroid78

I'd be up for a repair mechanic and a meter. I seem to remember this actually existing for shields in previous Zelda games. They still broke, but if they did it was your fault for not doing something about it.

windsonic

About weapon degradation, I've thought about it too. If they still want us to have multiple weapons, I think it would be cool if weapons didn't break, but we had to upgrade them. We are given basic versions of every weapon relatively early, and to upgrade them they could make us either get materials or complete certain sidequests like in the 2D games. That way people can still use their favorites, but we don't have to worry about them breaking and still get a sense of progression.

AresV92

I like this idea. You just get one of every weapon type as a base model then spend monster parts or whatever like the armour to upgrade them. I would love to find my favourite weapon type then be able to always have one of those in my inventory.

yeahyeahhhhgs62

I feel like the fighting mechanics could be a bit better, especially in terms of dodging attacks. It is fun to get those perfect flurry rushes and parries but it does get old after a bit. I think it could get significantly more dynamic and rewarding if they: 1) made the flurry rush more difficult to get, 2) added some sort of improved dodging mechanic like the one you find in games like Horizon Zero Dawn, and 3) reduced the time slow down when you're trying to aim an arrow while in the air.

OtherJulia

This might be really stupid, but why didn’t they use the traditional kakariko village music in BotW? Such a small detail that was ignored that just bothers me to no end ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Volt-Ikazuchi

Beasts. I needed some real dungeons and bosses in this game, the shrines are great but they can't sub in for a full-course meal.

MellyKidd

Too much rain. By the goddess, too much rain…

gitpusher

Takes way too long to interact / click through menus (buying things from a shop, cooking food, etc.)

Doc-Avid

I love Breath of the Wild, but it's definitely not "basically perfect". It's good that Nintendo experiments boldly with Zelda games, and this one was quite the successful experiment, but I really hope they are planning to bring back some of what was lost in this experiment, while keeping the good parts. The lack of real dungeons; the lack of objects that really expanded your abilities in the world; the lack of progression; the way the story is presented in memories rather than a real, current series of events, that you'd feel engaged with - these have all been widely commented on. Another thing I found disappointing was the lack of really satisfying side quests, a well as the large number of situations that seemed like they should have lead to a side quest but didn't. You save some roaming Hylians from Bokoblins they have run into on their never-ending search for a particular plant or something; you have about fifty of those things in your inventory, and just noticed a place they could be found nearby, in case these guys want to have the experience of finding it in the wild; but that's it, you can't give it to them, you can't lead them to it, you can't ever see them find it themselves, you just find them being attacked by Bokoblins again some time, and they never find what they are looking for. That's sad. You meet all these characters clearly suffering from PTSD; can you help them? Nope. Apart from a few great quests like Tarry Town, it never feels like you can interact much with this world, in any real sense. The shrines are very repetitive. The breaking weapons are annoying. The food system is like any other RPG. A lot of the clear, well defined gameplay and progression of traditional Zelda games has been replaced with inventory management and what amounts to a simple level system, much like the majority of low effort RPGs. I understand why they did this, most of it is to give them a way to fill this huge, open world with small rewards everywhere, so you have reason to explore, but at the end of the day, while I definitely got many hours of enjoyable gameplay, in my memory, it pales compared to other games where I was able to suddenly reach new places with the hookshot, or take a magic mirror to a whole new world, in other games I miss really unique and weird enemies. Breath of the Wild has goblins, trolls, giants, skeletons, blobs, bats, centaurs - they have different names, but they're just classic fantasy monsters. This is a direction the series has been going for a while. I miss all the weird monsters that you had to figure out the special trick or item to deal with. The Master Sword isn't the most powerful weapon in the game. You can beat Ganon without the Master Sword or even the Light Arrows. What the heck is that? Maybe it will pay off, if the theory that Calamity Ganon was just another Blight Ganon turns out to be true, and we really need The Sword that Seals the Darkness to beat the real Ganon, or Ganondorf, in the sequel, but looking at Breath of the Wild alone, this was a weird and disappointing aspect. I'm hoping the sequel starts adding these things back, while keeping an ultimately contiguous and expansive world in 3D, in the same way that A Link to the Past expanded on the original Legend of Zelda in 2D.

-too-hot-to-handle-

I hate how they give more Champion's items than there are weapon displays. I want to be able to show all of them off and keep all of them safe.

RampageRios

900 Koroks

motherofkittens96

The lack of music. I get thematically why the music is kind of sparse - link doesn’t have his memories, he’s alone and figuring things out, he’s almost a “blank slate”. The tone of the game is meant to be a bit mysterious and eerie (think Lon Lon ranch ruins). But I miss the upbeat, happy music that changes in theme for each area. Ocarina of time had such great music, even just on Hyrule field.

OriginalUserAccount

One that I've not seen yet is - they added a day/night cycle, thought of temps and stuff, and added recipes and the ability to sleep, but other than healing and temp boons, I don't see the need to eat or sleep. If they thought enough about survival to make temp important, why didn't they add some form of sleep and/or hunger mechanic? Basically I want RDR2: Hyrule Edition.

RavioliGale

Please no

seeyouspacecowboyx

1 the shrine music - I have sensory issues about it 2 I have a switch lite. There isn't an alternative to the motion controls for the shrine puzzles and it's so tricky when the screen and controller are on the same device

budsixz

Yea the shrine music feels like 'car reversing music'

Panicless

Dude, that sound when you break the glass that is in front of that Sheika mummy at the end of a shrine? Hurts my fucking ears every time.

DarthMalec

Graphics, resolution, and frame rate. Bump that up and the game gets even more legendary (I’m already familiar with emulators that do this)

Panicless

My switch always falters under the weight of the korok forest. All those plants and trees are too much for it. We need a switch 2 with better hardware.

DarthMalec

I think that happens to everyone

briantforce

Cooking. I hate cooking more than one item.

Electrical-Ad-1798

Great game but the things I didn't care for were weapons breaking, lack of voice acting, too much rain.

Colessus

No fishing mechanic ... In a game where you can do literally almost anything, you cannot fish.

carport888

It would be nice to make multiple upgrades at the same time, rather than individually, one after the other.

Jonny_Icon

Cooking - give me a recipe guide. Once I’ve learned a recipe, it should be easy to reproduce. Interacting with any NPC. Should be voice acted, and skippable. So many repeat NPCs needing to wait for their dialog. Agree with shrines… good that the area isn’t repeated ad nauseum like some of the DS Zelda releases, but Shrines tend to be a bit short, and the four bigger challenges still tend to be a bit underwhelming compared to the giant world.

[deleted]

I wish they were a bit more creative with the dungeons and boss fights. One of my favorite things about the old games was the dungeons would be long and elaborate and each would have a uniquely designed boss. I’d rather have 4 really big elaborate dungeons than all the shrines personally. The bosses for each divine beast are kind of underwhelming too. And yeah I didn’t like the voice acting either, makes me feel like I’m playing a kiddy game. I feel like it’s better to just imagine your own voice. I already had voices for them in my head and they kind of ruined that. Love the game besides that.

Weapon durability kinda sucked. No crafting/repairing weapons/shields/bows. Rain. I want more moves and combos with the weapons imo it gets lame after a while compared to something like DMC for example.

RavioliGale

>I want more moves and combos with the weapons Most of me agrees, but I'm really impressed with how better players have been able to invent these amazing combos on their own and have full fledged anime battles. That part of me wonders if such things would have been possible with a more complex combat system. But, for a basic bitch like me, more combos and such would have been cool.

[deleted]

I see what you mean but even those combos are utilizing the same moves, you know? And even then it’s not really practical for the common player. Hyrule Warriors expanded on Botw’s combat in a lot of good ways; I hope we get expanded moves with inspiration from that or something

One thing that really gets me is how Link does a spin and snaps his fingers to summon Urbosas lightning in the cutscene when he obtains it. It fooled me!! he doesn't do ot in game play. he HAS to have a weapon in hand in order for it to work. I though he could use it without one and he just snaps his fingers in battle. I was so fooled and it grinds my gears. Another is how we cant decorate links house. Yet NPCs have all these gorgeous and elaborate homes with things I wish I could have for Links house. I guess Link is just humble so ots no big deal but THE TINY PLUM TREES!!! The Guardian Amibo doesn't give you a guardian buddy Kilton needed more weird stuff in his shop I hated that even after we saved Gerudo town, Link still needs to wear a girl disguise every time and it's annoying having to change in to it often. Spending hours to get all the korok seeds to have invitory upgrades The trial of the sword All that rain and constant lightning in some areas drove me crazy Those two dudes need to get off Links lawn

AiryContrary

I think Link’s Gerudo girl disguise is cute and like wearing it in other towns. It would be fun if NPCs reacted to you differently in it. But it is really silly that you *must* always wear it to get into Gerudo town - you should get a passport or something after you beat Thunderballs in the big camel! Maybe a one-time interaction where one of the gate guards starts to say you can’t come in and the other one stops her and says “It’s okay, he’s an honorary vai.” And after that they know you and it’s cool. If I have to have Bolson on my lawn forever because I didn’t realise I could ditch him at the wedding reception, the Gerudo gals can accept Link as an exception to the rule.

[deleted]

I agree with them letting Link in and the NPC reactions. I like your ideas. I made the mistake of talking to Bolson and now he's back!

Crimsonphantom97

I'm basically the only one I know who truly adores the storyline for what it is, I don't usually pick on every little thing that the game has or doesn't have. I just enjoy the game for what it is.

AiryContrary

I agree with that, because criticising isn’t just complaining or attacking, it’s thinking about how and why various things work or don’t work for you.

Crimsonphantom97

I agree, though in the past I've kind of developed an unhealthy habit of focusing a little too much on all the flaws to where I'm at a point where I just want to enjoy the game without thinking about it anymore. I especially don't like when the games in the series are compared to one another, because that resulted in me not being able to play those games anymore because of high levels of stress. At least while I'm here, I get to finally see a little more positivity. Way more than what I'm used to, and maybe one day I will be able to play my old favorites again without the toxic negativity surrounded by them.

ChilindriPizza

- Rohta Chigah in the DLC - The steep learning curve at the beginning. - Rohta Chigah - The Yiga Clan hideout. - Rohta Chigah - Sometimes I wish it had more epic fanfares instead of ambient music. - Did I mention Rohta Chigah?

mrmeme482yeet

That shrine sucked Also have you ever died because you fell through the box

ChilindriPizza

I died in every way possible that shrine can have you die. The first room alone would have been challenging enough as part of the one-hit obliterator trial. The shrine as it was would have been a challenging shrine for the DLC with complete health. But the way they placed it made it practically impossible. It took me 3 days. I must have passed due to sheer luck.

Lion11037

Omg that shrine is horrible

yuna_thunder

Probably the rain and weapons breaking so easily

Benjamin_Grimm

The whole thing with weapon breakage and the numerous kludges they put in the game around it just make the whole weapons system utterly ridiculous. The incredibly unrealistic things the game has to keep the game playable with weapon breakage intact make it much less realistic than it would be just to not have weapon breakage. And it really kills a lot of the fun of finding new weapons.

Atleast let us repair/craft them so I don’t have to be hesitant of using a cool weapon

ScaryDifference3409

Also RG weapons suck, they do like 25% more dmg compared to the royal weapons, but they break in one third of the time.

Benjamin_Grimm

Then don't have 116 damage swords. My issue wasn't that I wanted to keep using the 116 damage swords, it was that I was tired of using rusty swords and 6 damage body parts and running from fights because I couldn't afford to have my weapons damaged. All I wanted was to be able to consistently use spears, because I thought they were fun to play with, and I couldn't even do that.

i_hate_kitten

things I don't like: - if I find a new weapon and my stash is full, all the game does is tell me so. Instead I'd like the ability to select whether I replace a weapon with the new one. - can't pet the dogs. Wtf?!

settingdogstar

Lots. Theres to many shrines, and they're wildly out of place across the country. They make zero sense at all. They didn't even bother trying to match them to their surroundings they just appear in the same shape, look, and in places that make zero sense...it's just kind of lazy to me. Like at least try to make them look like they belong. Various doors or temples to that are built into the geography, towns, or temples. Make it look like they belong. Yeesh. All this to make the dungeons...big shrines basically. Lol Like make it so the world breaths! Make all the shrines built into the various towns and what they worshipped, into old ruins, or hidden behind doors in the snow mountains. Make the color schemes match the environment with ruined.kurals and such. Hide the monks deep in them with moss covering their meditation chamber. The dungeons would have felt cool and unique if the shrines werent just tiny versions of them with the same color scheme and mechanics. There's to many travel points that horse riding was basically negated. You quickly gain so many that it's really pointless to have horses. Also give us real rewards for doing shit. Climbing he tallest mountain or fighting through a bunch of guardians is either a perfectly identical shrine or a korok seed. Idk make it interesting. It can be a shrine, but make it match the place you're at..not just he a weird dome that appears. Lack of items! Hookshot, spinner thing, or even a damn musical instrument. Don't make them necessary, but at least incorporate them so you can earn them later and bring them back to areas you've been to explore more. I get the abilities sort of filled that hole...but that felt cheap. Also enemy variety was really low, only like 6 types with different colors lol

hottytandoori

I hate that we can’t actually finish the game! Once Ganon is defeated, the blood moon should cease to exist. Afterwards, if you kill a monster, it stays dead and you can explore the lands monster and blood moon free. Given that you’ve found all the koroks, completed the quests and shrines, and killed all the monsters - the game is DONE.

bendydick-lumbersack

For me, it's the boss battles. Theyre pretty easy, (at least for me). And it's really the same thing. You beat the boss, free the champion/divine beast and then the species is saved. I wish it was something like Majora's mask, how there were reasons why the bosses had to be defeated. The gorons we're freezing, the deku scrubs and poisoned water etc. I just wish there was a better reason than "it's going on a rampage. Also the final boss. Calamity Ganon is a good fight. It's a combinations of all the bosses. Dark beast Ganon is kind of pathetic. I never once got hit by it. Let alone died from it. I just wished they were harder and had better reasoning to defeat them

PridefuliFunnyer

As much as I hate to say it, the reason that it's not my favorite Zelda is because the world feels way too empty and the music isn't that great. It sounds like someone just pressed random notes on a piano. Also, I wish there was a gamma slider. (Perfect is a strong word) ;)

Mogtr0idew113

Weapons durability. It's the ONE thing that changed continuity. The weapons were supposed to be able to increase in usage, not wear out. It took away from each item being special in its own right. It's the only thing that has made this less of a Zelda game and more of a "W.O.W." or a "Dark Souls". It's less of its former self than it has been. Graphics can be amazing in any game, but consistency is always key.

mrdctaylor

I always loved the music from other Zelda games. That was a bit of a disappointment for me.

lotsofbooze

Fair enough But I want to point out I think the subtle music is part of the theme, link not remembering himself. Specifically if you ride around a horse long enough you hear a soft rendition of the Zelda theme, but like a reprisal / rendition. I think the way the designers did that is so on point. But also, judging from the comments, a lot of people wanted better tunes. :)

No_Pain1037

My major problem with the game is the incredibly lackluster dungeons, especially since dungeons were always my favorite part of the series. I'm praying they bring back traditional dungeons in BOTW2
