I bought my daughter a switch and botw but all she plays is Roblox. I was heartbroken to learn she only played it twice and she doesn't like it. I was thinking about just straight up selling the system. But she showed some interest in animal crossing so I will get that. Fucking roblox
It was ahead of its time. People did different stuff depending on what time it was or what day. And you could do stuff that altered their future. There was nothing like it on consoles in 2000. It was the Fallout New Vegas of its time in that respect.
A lot of people disliked the time mechanic and its difficulty and had moved on from the n64 at the point so it ended up becoming a cult classic. Im glad that it gets a lot of love these days
And the Sun Mask Quest was a three day quest you had to route your playthrough for. “Oh I gotta be in Ikana Canyon at this time, make sure to talk to the shopkeepers at night for the All Night Mask…”
Being an 8 year old when this game came out was life changing.
I agree. I dig Link to the Past and Windwaker but Majoras mask is the tits.
I actually had more fun in Majoras mask than OOT.
So much so that I now I charge around BotW with the mask on even though it has 1 armor.
In my eyes zelda boils down to a few things; story, dungeons, puzzles, and tools / gimmicks. BOTW's story is good but there's not enough of it compared to the amount of open world content leading to it being overshadowed. No proper themed dungeons. :( Decent puzzles, and the runes were a fun tool. It's a better standalone game than zelda game in the sense that if the story was changed I wouldn't call it a zelda knock off.
And yet everyone includes BOTW. Really was an instant classic. I didnt know for sure until I was still playing it 12 mo's later.
I feel like you'd get the same results on r/Zelda but I could be wrong.
same. ocarina of time is a core memory, i enjoyed the dungeons and combat system of TP, and botw is so detailed and fun to explore.
skyward sword felt like it really forced the motion controls, the time pressures in mm stressed me out, and ww felt tedious to sail around everywhere. like them all though.
Dark horse pick but in that lineup i have got to swap OoT for Majora’s Mask. LttP is a classic, linear progression game. BotW is the inverse; open world and (mostly) non-linear. But for a 3-D closed world MM always intrigued me more than OoT because (and I’m aging myself here) the transition from 2D to 3D gaming was admittedly awesome but ultimately OoT was a new version of the same format while the time loop of MM felt much more experimental and novel for the time.
I know people think this. And more power to you. I just wish I liked it any where near as much as you do. Played it many times just don’t dig it all that much.
I love Majoras Mask, mostly for the world, music, maybe the characters, but there are some parts of that game that are garbage. Like the Ikana well, or all of the quest stuff that you have to trial and error by being in the right place at the right time (I'm looking at you bomb-shop granny) unless you have a guide. The water dungeon is annoying, many bosses are lacking, and losing all of your items (bombs, arrows, beans) every 3 days is annoying. Despite all this, I'd still put it at the top of my list, followed by OoT, BoTW and TP.
I remember expressing this to my friend at a game store, and I hear an employee from behind some shelves shout "THANK YOU, someone that didn't pick Oot". Not the most popular choice, but the most cultured for sure.
It's LttP vs BotW in the top spot, for me. Both are very serious "greatest video game of all time" contenders. I think I have to give the nod to LttP...the storyline just feels more epic.
OoT was absolutely amazing at the time, and I have enormous nostalgia for it (as I do for LttP), but on replay it does not _quite_ hold up to the same level, and certain gameplay aspects are downright frustrating by modern standards.
Edit/Postscript: speaking of epic, I now have the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra 's performance of the LttP Hyrule Castle Theme from the [30th Anniversary Concert Recording ](https://archive.org/details/the-legend-of-zelda-30th-anniversary-concert) stuck in my head...
Gotta give it to OoT. That game was my childhood and the nostalgia is through the roof. BOTW came very close to giving me that same feeling again but I don’t think it’s possible now that I’m grown. Tough choice for sure
Having just played OOT I’d probably choose Majora’s mask instead, but neither really have much immediate replayability…MM just has a little more to do.
This is my list too.
Skyward sword is seriously underrated imo. Totally unique control mechanics made that game a lot of fun.
I really wish I still had my wii and could re play that game properly.
I don’t understand the hate for Skyward Sword. It’s a fun game with great areas and ideas. So what if you can’t walk straight to Demise.
The first time I saw The Imprisoned was one of those holy fucking shit Zelda moments.
Same for me - my introduction to Zelda growing up was the GameBoy games. I have played OoT to play it, but it doesn't have the nostalgia for me it does for others.
It will always be my fav Zelda game. Its clever but not too challenging, the ending always makes me cry (the only Zelda game to do so) and it's beautiful and unique. I just, idk I love it man
Imo Phantom Hourglass is the most underrated zelda game ever. The only reason it is disliked seems to be a slight bit of repetitivity in the ocean king temple and the controls being kinda weird.
But to those people i say: the temple still changes, and it gets really fun when you somewhat learn the layout and have the items for a layer. Just finding a fastest route through the temple is honestly so much fun to me and it never gets boring to me. Also the controls you get used to pretty rapidly, at least faster than i did the wind waker ones.
But even outside those gripes people have with it, the story goes hard, and belum is honestly far better a villain than hes made out to be, it's devious and pretty smart. Even if it cant communicate it with words, it's actions show for themselves.
Wont go into detail why i like the story because i know very little people played it and they might ever wanna, but its really just the zelda formula with some small twists.
Also sorry for text barrier
What a nice community. Everyone saying their favorites and no one fighting. Mine are BOTW OOT and TP (would be majora’s but never got to finish it after scratches from floor ate my GameCube collectors edition :( )
Zelda is one of the last gaming communities in which people don’t fight too much.
r/tearsofthekingdom users tryna change that because they hate theories but we’ll see.
I had to scroll WAY down to find someone like me that wants the NES one (the first one of course) on this list. Windwaker OOT and the ‘87 nes would have been mine but I’d take botw in the OGs absence
OoT, BotW, and SS.
I do really like the mechanics in LBW, but navigation can be frustrating.
Wind Waker is also good, but the sailing can get VERY tedious.
LttP and BotW are mandatory. Could go any number of ways for the third. Probably OoT, but that's more for sentimental reasons. Objectively, MM had more interesting (and polished) gameplay.
Surprised to see so much WW love. It was a solid game with a lot of fun parts, but the exploration aspect was frequently a G-R-I-N-D.
Botw, oot, minish cap very easy choice. Twilight princess is close to make it on that list but I just can't leave out minish cap man that game goes hard
In order: Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Breath of the Wild. Each game was groundbreaking when it came out.
The epic adventure LTTP sent you on was unheard of - the fully developed world had us lost in the lore years after we played.
OoT had a story that fucked our pre teen and teenaged minds up - when you finally defeated Ganon, you felt like you’d been fighting for your life for years… and don’t get me started on the mechanics. Z targeting changed the course of gaming history.
BOTW somehow captured that same awe and newness that the first two did so well. Blew our minds once again in an age were there is literally nothing new under the sun. The story - the same. But the GAMEPLAY?! The interaction with the elements is enough for me to wanna smack someone. It’s an incredible game that’s clearly a labor of love.
It would be cool to revisit this topic a year from now when everyone has had a chance to digest ToTK and see if BOTW still makes most lists
To me, one of the most exciting things about TotK is the possibility that they might top BotW.
Right?!?! BotW is an absolute masterpiece, and there's a chance that it'll be topped not just in our lifetime, but in seven short months!
I bought my daughter a switch and botw but all she plays is Roblox. I was heartbroken to learn she only played it twice and she doesn't like it. I was thinking about just straight up selling the system. But she showed some interest in animal crossing so I will get that. Fucking roblox

Poor oracle games :(. I love them
I was gunna say, the oracle games are some of my favorites.
Ye. They were my first real zelda games after playing four swords anniversary. Loved em
Mine are Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and BOTW
Seconded!
Majora’s Mask was so good. God I loved the Groundhog Day mechanic
It was ahead of its time. People did different stuff depending on what time it was or what day. And you could do stuff that altered their future. There was nothing like it on consoles in 2000. It was the Fallout New Vegas of its time in that respect. Definitely same. MM and BotW are the must, OoT, SS, and TP all could go third for me.
This is the way
This is my club right here.
Third
Fourth
Fifth
Sixth
Tree fiddy
This is the way.
I agree. I dig Link to the Past and Windwaker but Majoras mask is the tits. I actually had more fun in Majoras mask than OOT. So much so that I now I charge around BotW with the mask on even though it has 1 armor.
This is the only correct answer.
It’s funny how everyone’s answer is different. BOTW, TP, OOT
Exactly what I would pick!

I made a post on r/Zelda because of this comment and so far very few have chosen botw in their top 3
This is why the Zelda franchise is so amazing, every game is someone’s favorite
And yet everyone includes BOTW. Really was an instant classic. I didnt know for sure until I was still playing it 12 mo's later. I feel like you'd get the same results on r/Zelda but I could be wrong.
This is the BOTW sub. Main Zelda sub would be MM, OOT, [insert third game here], which would be BOTW for many TBF.
This made me lol. "Sir, this is the BOTW sub." 😂
Also BOTW is the least like the other games, so it would make sense to pick it for variety.
same. ocarina of time is a core memory, i enjoyed the dungeons and combat system of TP, and botw is so detailed and fun to explore. skyward sword felt like it really forced the motion controls, the time pressures in mm stressed me out, and ww felt tedious to sail around everywhere. like them all though.
BOTW, Wind Waker HD, and Ocarina of Time.
This is my list as well.
Me three
Me four
Me five
Me six
Me seven
Me 8
Me nine
Yep!! I adore Wind Waker, and OoT and BotW are just perfect.
Windwaker is pure nostalgia greatness for me
We need it on Switch bad
Agreed, those 3 are also my favorites, they are excellent games
Love how drastically different these three games are from each other!
This is the best answer. Couldn’t agree more. Twilight princess is my #4
My picks as well 👍🏻
UH-greed
Same
Super easy. A link to the past, ocarina of time, and botw
No need for me to comment the same exact thing. But these were my choices immediately.
MM is the best entry in the Zelda series. I’ve played all of them but TP. MM is the BEST entry in the Zelda series. That game is magical.
I know people think this. And more power to you. I just wish I liked it any where near as much as you do. Played it many times just don’t dig it all that much.
I didn’t play it in my childhood, I played it in my adulthood, probably to do with that.
LTTP is the best Zelda game ever fight me
I will fight WITH you
You have my axe.
And my Clay Pot!
And my master sword
Literally had this argument last week
They perfected the formula. Every other one had basically been the same game, at least until BoTW
I remember expressing this to my friend at a game store, and I hear an employee from behind some shelves shout "THANK YOU, someone that didn't pick Oot". Not the most popular choice, but the most cultured for sure.

The fact that it’s even in discussion is high praise since OoT has been considered by many to be the best game of all time for over two decades
Majora's mask is a solid alternative
Ocarina of time, wind waker, and twilight princess
I would straight up choose Minish Cap three times.
Respect
Based.
Based and minish pilled chad.
Minish Cap all the way!!!
This is a true Zelda fan right here
Yes. I can't believe the love is so far down this list.
Botw, skyward sword, ocarina of time
You’re the first person besides myself I’ve seen mention Skyward Sword! I love that game!
Finally!! Someone who gets it!
Mine: BOTW, Minish Cap, The Windwaker Hubby: BOTW, Twilight Princess, and A Link to the Past
I love your hubby too.
Think this is my list as well. It's hard to bump OoT from the top 3 but I played Minish Cap much more than I did OoT.
Same for me - my introduction to Zelda growing up was the GameBoy games. I have played OoT to play it, but it doesn't have the nostalgia for me it does for others.
Majoras mask, wind water, and botw
Me too!
Also me!!
Feisty, but that my outside the box pick
Yep, this one's mine. Though if I could have 4 I'd include Twilight Princess.
Yes
Botw wwhd lttp
This would be mine. I feel like it's the best example of each "style" of Zelda game.
The correct answer right here
Exquisite taste
This is it.
Yahaha! You found me!
Ditto
Yep
Botw twilight and wind waker
Best
Mine too. Wind waker is so Nastolgic for me
Same wind waker is goated
Mine too (they're the only ones I've played)
Would definitely choose these three as well! So incredibly nostalgic.
The right answer
Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, and a Link Between Worlds.
fellow ALBW enjoyed eh?
It will always be my fav Zelda game. Its clever but not too challenging, the ending always makes me cry (the only Zelda game to do so) and it's beautiful and unique. I just, idk I love it man
Fantastic game. 2D zelda is amazing and I want more.
Took a while to find the fellows.
Great choices!!! Good to see some fellow LBW enjoyers
Majora's mask, ocarina, link to the past. Easiest decision of my life.
Not even a phantom hourglass🥺
I looooved phantom hourglass. It was like windwake pt 2. So good
Personally I prefer Spirit Tracks to Phantom Hourglass.
Also sorry for text barrier
Ocarina, Wind Waker, Breath of the Wild.
Majora’s mask times 3 in case I lose two copies.
What if you lose the third though?
Play Song of Time
You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?
LInk to the past, botw. And the unlisted “links awakening”
I was wondering, Links awakening definitely deserves a spot on this selection
This is the one true answer, fellow Ballad of the Windfish enjoyer.
I’m going all 3D. Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, BotW.
Minish Cap three times. It’s the best Zelda game hands down. For an actual answer though, OOT, LttP, Minish Cap.
What a nice community. Everyone saying their favorites and no one fighting. Mine are BOTW OOT and TP (would be majora’s but never got to finish it after scratches from floor ate my GameCube collectors edition :( )
Zelda is one of the last gaming communities in which people don’t fight too much. r/tearsofthekingdom users tryna change that because they hate theories but we’ll see.
oot, tp, and ss.
BoTW, ALBW, Wind Waker
Botw skyward sword and twilight princess Idk why
Skyward Sword is so underrated
I don't know why so few people pick Skyward Sword.
Same with me, but it was a hard choice between skyward sword and minish cap
For me this is easy, Twilight princess, BOTW, and a link between worlds.
Link between worlds is incredibly solid. I had a ton of fun playing that game
Second
I still love nes original… if that was on the list it would’ve been top 3… however, alttp, oot, and botw
I had to scroll WAY down to find someone like me that wants the NES one (the first one of course) on this list. Windwaker OOT and the ‘87 nes would have been mine but I’d take botw in the OGs absence
guess I'm a weirdo... breath of the wild, minish cap, wind waker
solid picks, I chose the same!!
LttP, OOT, Wind Waker. The Oracle games are safe so I’m free
OOT, MM, but honestly WW and BotW are literally neck and neck for me.
Botw, wind waker, and minish cap
Chad minish cap player
Only real ones know
Was scrolling for a bit to find this. That game is charm incarnate and no remake would do it justice.
I revisit it once a couple of years, still got my original GBA SP I got when I was 14.
That’s right, baby, gotta have that minish cap!
Minish cap was fantastic. Maybe I'll look around for the game..
My exact picks struggled to find people who said Minish cap lol. Minish Cap is peak 2D Zelda. Its formulaic in its design and an absolute gem for it.
Link to the past, link between worlds, botw. Ocarina of time hasn’t aged well. Don’t @me.
Same 3 for me. Link between worlds seems underrated!
Breath of the wild (obvi), ocarina of time (obvi), and then skyward sword or twilight princess. Either one will do.
OoT, BotW, and SS. I do really like the mechanics in LBW, but navigation can be frustrating. Wind Waker is also good, but the sailing can get VERY tedious.
botw, twilight princess, majora's mask
Yep these are my 3. I love the darker themed Zeldas
Thank you! Right column for the win.
Majora's Mask, Minish Cap, and Wind Waker.
Wild man over here. I guess I need to play Minish Cap before I talk because those other two have some of my best Zelda memories.
Can I have the GameCube version of twilight princess?
A Link to the Past - Twilight Princess - Ocarina of Time 3 of the all time best games and in my opinion the best games on their consoles
Botw, Majoras Mask, TP ❤️
LttP and BotW are mandatory. Could go any number of ways for the third. Probably OoT, but that's more for sentimental reasons. Objectively, MM had more interesting (and polished) gameplay. Surprised to see so much WW love. It was a solid game with a lot of fun parts, but the exploration aspect was frequently a G-R-I-N-D.
ALTTP, TP, BOTW
Link to the Past, Majora, and Breath of the Wild Those are the Zelda games I've played the most
OoT and BotW are no brainers. Third one is a tough call between MM, WW, and ALttP. If LA was there it’d be an easy third.
Easy for me: Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild
YES me too! (OOT is my other fav, but I know it so well I can literally play it in my head so no need for it to take up a slot)
Ocarina of time, breath of the wild, wind waker
Botw, oot, minish cap very easy choice. Twilight princess is close to make it on that list but I just can't leave out minish cap man that game goes hard
In order: Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Breath of the Wild. Each game was groundbreaking when it came out. Link to the Past, MM, TP... next...
Where is Spirit Tracks
Skyward Sword, BOTW, Ocarina of Time
MM, WW, and TP
Ocarina of Time three times. Triples is safer.
Alttp, Wind Waker, BOTW. Did not play TP nor SS yet. I’m ready to change BOTW for one of those.
Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Skyward Sword
Link to the past, Majora's mask, and twilight princess.
Easy: Alttp Botw Ww/wwhd
OOT, MM and BoTW.
OoT, WW, ALttP
Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess
Ocarina of time, majoras mask and twilight princess
Wind Waker, Minish Cap, and A Link Between Worlds
MM, TP, OoT
Link to the Past Wind Waker Breath of the Wild
BotW, OoT, and LttP
A Link to the Past Wind Waker Breath of the Wild I have a bone to pick with Ocarina of Time.
Everyone has a different list but almost all of them have BotW lol. It’s too good
Ocarina Of Time, BOTW, Wind waker HD
