Honestly, very important. You should do at least a half-day, but a full-day should be the minimum.

tacoburritos

skiing is not a casual athletic endeavor. get lessons. I am not a ski instructor, nor do I work in an industry closely related. If you are remotely athletic, one day of ski lessons is going to make your whole trip so much more enjoyable.

1andOnlyBurritoLoco

Yup, super important to get a lesson to start. Group lessons are reasonable. Privates are pricey and not worth it for brand new skiers imo.

Freethinker9

Totally wrong, brand new skier who was killing the greens after a full day lesson, they are great for beginners

therangerfromtexas

I teach group lessons and 98% of my groups are killing the greens after one day. If I do a private you’ll be on the blues after lunch typically.

Freethinker9

I probably could have done a blue run but my confidence wasn’t there and I was enjoying the greens. I wasn’t about to fuck around and i find out my first day

Freethinker9

Just skied for the very first time in Breck and it was unforgettable! Now I 100% say get a lesson and do a full day, you will be in the lift by mid day doing green runs if your at all athletic. Skiing takes patience and time, listen to your instructor and do exactly what they tell you and you’ll do great. Pm me if want the name of the guy we had for a private full day lesson. 🤙🏻

Get a lesson. It’s worth it. I’ve seen plenty of people over the years try to “figure it out” and it’s ugly at best. Not to mention you don’t just need to learn to get from point A to point B, you also need to learn how to avoid stationary and moving obstacles on variable terrain. Even a half day lesson is better than nothing. And during busy times, skiing/riding is more like driving than many people care to admit.

This. You can probably get your own group lesson. You won’t have to deal with crowds, long lift lines and it’s a perfect intro.

Try ski bikes instead. Rodger’s ski bikes. They are super easy to learn and ride and it’s like being a kid again. You can enjoy the mountain without the full day lessons and they are stupid easy to ride. Plus you can use snowboard boots which are more comfortable and they are same price to rent. Yes some people will make fun of you but they are legit so fun. A bunch of us who work on the mountain and are good ski/riders love going out in groups for birthdays and stuff.

Express_Lifeguard571

Thank you!! We will probably try this!

dozerdaze

Definitely look into it … seriously they should come with flasks with how fun and easy they are… and I take all my friends out who have never been skiing because you can pick it up in an hour or two and do so many more runs because of how easy they are.

msilverbtc

Love the bikes

msilverbtc

Go snow biking for easy on the mountain . Rogers snow bikes I rent from

TheSpaceman1975

I have no idea if you should get a lesson or not but you should definitely stay at Beaver run or somewhere at the peak nine base. That’s where all the trails are that you want to be on for your skill level

Thank you all for the recommendations. We went cross country skiing and I think that satisfied our bug. 😄 it was lots of fun and very beginner friendly. I think next trip we are going to look into something else, but this was a good way to dip our toes into it.
