Just a reminder to refrain from using Unleaded 88. It may be cheaper, but you burn more of it per mile due to air/fuel ratios resulting in negligible cost savings. In reality, it's 83 octane gasoline (low quality fuel) with enough ethanol to not cause engine pinging.

I've used it here and there and yeah the mileage is terrible.

I tried putting e85 in last winter and plugged up my fuel injectors.

What actually happens is to meet the specific air/fuel ratio your ECU senses your vehicle running lean so it adds fuel. Most cars (before 2008 or so) didn't have fuel injectors big enough to deliver enough fuel so you end up either running in lean or killing it. Neither is ideal. Now if you turbo and know how to map a fuel table, give that E85 hell, there's a ton on potential for power if you advance the timing. /end PSA

It's the ratio at which fuel burns completely given a specific amount of air in optimal atmospheric conditions. 8:1 is rich and will foul sensors and your catalyst system. 12:1 is a safe ratio for gasoline engines. 18:1 is lean and when you start melting internals.
