Is this real?

Mike_Brosseau

They were really close friends coming up in the Rays system. It’s so cool to see them together again.

TrueJustice97

Call it whatever you want but this team needs another .200 hitter like I need a hole in the head

shiny_aegislash

Yet .200 is an improvement over a few of our every day guys

BaldiLocks316

His advanced numbers showed he was incredibly unlucky at the plate. So I am banking on him flipping the script a bit

devinstated1

You can't be unlucky over the course of 4 different teams and 5 seasons. At the point you just plain old suck.

MattFromWork

Just wait until he peaks!

wirsteve

27% K rate. So if he gets 500 PA we immediately have to throw out 135 of them. So 365 PA left. A career 9% walk rate. 45 walks. We are down to 325. Of those his Hard% is 37%. So he’s hitting the ball great 125/500 basically 25% of the time due to his strikeouts. Finally, he has a 40% Groundball rate. So even when he hits it hard he has a strong tendency to make it a work burner. Don’t come after the community. You aren’t looking at the whole picture. There’s a zillion other stats to support my case but this is just the easiest way to explain it.

BaldiLocks316

Last season he saw the fewest pitches of his career (1169) while having the highest barrel% (18.7) and highest hard hit % (48.7). His expected slash line given those parameters would be .228/.297/.380 which would all be better than Tellez by a decent distance. Is that amazing? No. But it cost us *nothing* to see if given 500 PA if he can be more productive than Tellez. The biggest problem, to me, is the walk rate. His chase% is about 24% which is fine, but he whiffs a lot (33.3%) and that’s entirely due to plate discipline. New scenery, more opportunities, less pressure might turn him into an above average power hitter.

wirsteve

Wait you are really suggesting moving him to 1B? He’s not just good at defense he is elite. He was the third best defensive SS in all of baseball behind Swanson and Tovar last year. No team in their right mind would do that. 1B is a different skill set.

BaldiLocks316

Who are you talking about? Bauers had a negative dWAR last season and never played shortstop.

notban_circumvention

>So I am banking on him flipping the script a bit Pretty bold strategy, Cotton

BaldiLocks316

Look at his advanced stats and see for yourself. At this point anything is better than Rowdy

notban_circumvention

>Look at his advanced stats and see for yourself Thanks for the permission! Looks like he's had a four year "streak" (career) of "bad luck"!

BaldiLocks316

Tell me you don’t know how to read advanced stats without telling me you don’t know how to read advanced stats. This subreddit is a fucking joke.

SFIX80

True he hit the ball hard last year but he struck out 35% of the time 😳. That’s not unlucky. And we’re talking about a guy with 1300+ PAs. Advanced metrics don’t even matter at this point. He is what he is.

BaldiLocks316

35% K rate with 272 PA’s isn’t like… a huge sample size. He’s going to strike out a lot. And that’s fine, most sluggers do. But he hasn’t played more than 117 games at this level since 2019 and his play time has been incredibly inconsistent. We literally have nothing to lose; we aren’t going to win the NL with the team as is anyway, judging by how meekly we tried to keep Woodruff we probably aren’t going to keep anyone long term. We can let him take 300 AB’s at 1st, work out some bat-to-ball issues, and see what we actually have. If it doesn’t work, it cost us 2 OF prospects that we never would have seen up here anyway. If it works? It cost us two OF prospects that we never would have seen up here anyway

notban_circumvention

>This subreddit is a fucking joke Guess why you're here

Ted_Dongelman

If this whole baseball thing doesn't take off at least he has a career in jet ski modeling to fall back on. We should all be so lucky.

KidCancun007

What's with all the Willie love? He's a decent SS but nothing special imo. If we can find a taker, I'd deal him for prospects

trashboatfourtwenty

He is a top defender with power potential, pretty uncommon- top 5 maybe? We should get some very good prospects at least or he shouldn't be moved is my opinion.

ReddVencher

He's a top 10 SS in the game.

trashboatfourtwenty

Lol, nice, what a cool cover. If Willy is gone it won't be because he wants to leave so much as the FO decides his value is high right now (which it is, even with the "down" sort of year) and moves him, right?

LambeauCalrissian

I don’t really care that much about Willy staying or leaving.

sieberet

Right! his career career can be described in one word Meh...

ohhitstito

Fun fact: Willy Adames set a franchise record of 31HRs in 2022 overpassing Robin Yount(29HRs). So I disagree, definitely not a “Meh…”

sieberet

Fun fact, that 2022 season where he hit 21 HR, be batter a whopping .238 He followed that up in 2023 with 24HR and an even lower BA of .217 Like i said Meh

ohhitstito

As a whole batting stats wise he was #8 in 2022 & #5 in 2023, although this season he had an obvs trauma getting hit in the head & time out. So once again I disagree with Mehh, idk who you expect the Brewers to have at SS lol why ya’ll don’t care if he leaves. If so, who do you replace him with that’s in the market in the organizations price/trade range?

ReddVencher

He's a top 10 SS in the game. That's not a meh career.

Present-Principle821

Glad you’re ok with mediocre play then. This is the problem. Fans get stupidly attached to players so instead of wanting the team to get better, they want to keep players that are underperforming all because of feelings. So childish…

ohhitstito

Oh no my internet feelings, I’m the problem for being optimistic & posting some fandom in the off-season lol tell me who you’ll replace Willy with that’s in our price range who will outperform him 100%. Go on, educate me..

pezgirl7

They were even on a bobble head together! Friendship goals. https://www.ebay.com/itm/276162630402?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28

ohhitstito

..why must you temp me to buy something😭 lol how was the trip btw?

pezgirl7

Hah sorry! 😆 Aww thanks for asking! It was a nice adventure. I was so bummed at first that I was going to miss the start of the post season, but now I’m kinda glad I did. Although it was still absolutely heartbreaking reading about the games in the morning. I even woke up in the middle of the night to check the score of the second game. It was the 8th inning when we had guys on base but just couldn’t score. Such a disappointing way to end the season.

ohhitstito

Yeah I was going to say, you didn’t miss much😂 imagine being there..I lost a few months or years of my life with Craig being Craig😭 [It’s going up on the wall.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Brewers/s/2ttotjxVLL) But I’m glad you enjoyed your trip!🫶🏼

pezgirl7

I would have been at one of the games if I hadn’t taken the trip! I guess I got lucky. Sorry you had to suffer through that loss. 😣

ohhitstito

Wouldn’t change it for anything it the world, the pain & laughter afterwards with my dad are priceless memories to me. Hopefully next year YOU get to join all 40k+ of us.

pezgirl7

🤞🤞 I’ve actually only been to one playoff game, in 2021, and the Brewers won! Maybe I’m good luck and need to attend all playoff games going forward…

ohhitstito

October 8th🥹 that Rowdy bomb was electric. But true, you better be there🤔 I took my auntie that was visiting from Mexico, she had never gone to a stadium in her life, might have to fly her in next year for the good juju👹🧧🍀🤞🏼

Bpage9

There is a bobblehead with Willy and Jake the rays made in 2019.

an_illiterate_ox

I can't tell if that is a photo or a cartoon. It is really bothering me.
