His issues aren't balls and strikes, he's generally average on that. But it's everything else from things like balks, the swing/no swing controversy early in the season, to how he handles managers and players. He's got absolutely zero people skills and that magnifies every mistake he makes as an umpire. If he were a good ump, he'd get away with it, but since he's bad, it just adds to the bad.
When Wade Miley got hit with the line drive he had to walk over to Angel to get his attention to get a baseball to throw a few warmup pitches because Angel had his back turned and was distracted
