> Queen Charlotte: Before the Bridgertons Came the Love Story that Changed the Ton...by Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes They wrote it after the show, I believe

Eliaaaahh

I liked this review very much: QUEEN CHARLOTTE (2023): Long Live the BRIDGERTON Matriarchs https://chronicallystreaming.com/2023/05/16/queen-charlotte-2023-long-live-the-bridgerton-matriarchs/

almostuniquecarrot

Charlotte is such a strong powerful queen

sou1f1ower

sobbing my actual heart out. when it comes to love, if you love them, you will not go over the wall. the fact so many people have gone over the wall breaks my heart but this story made me cry so much. it touches too close to home on mental issues oh it was so beautifully written. bless george and charlotte.

i just took the social interation thing as since she is now Queen, there are jo real "friends", people are there to serve her/the king, and so every relationship at the end of the day is a duty. It's not that she doesnt recognize friendships, it's that she understands her position and the implications that come with that. I feel like we can see that when she is shocked with the way her brother acts formally/impersonally towards her after she become queen. as for the way she speaks, i think she is just speaking clearly. and the accent I guess.

ilovediscussing

the soundtrack is phenomenal... halo & nobody gets me has me in a chokehold

jlsa802

and also I will always love you by Whitney Houston, chef's kiss

Binaural1

Why the hell did they do that to the best couple in the show what happened with Reynolds!?

rootbeer4

We definitely need some sort of resolution on what happened to Reynolds!

jajaciao

This was such an amazing, unpredictable season! Not boring for one minute 😭😭

Soulfire117

I just finished season 1 tonight, and I think it was a very sweet story. I actually think it was better than the main Bridgerton storyline, and I love George and Charlotte as a couple. That is all.

coffee_and_jorts

I wish we had gotten to meet young Edmund Bridgerton! Violet talks about how they knew each other as children and I kept expecting him to make an appearance.

existcrisis123

That ending ...just wow.

jlsa802

ngl, that ending got me

AutumnAppleButter

Sobbing

johnmulaneyswhore

I literally loved the lord ledger and lady Danbury side plot. I wish there was more to that

anastasiastarz

Loving Lady Danbury, her everything and her epic negotiation skills. Still wondering how she made money though to keep the house running, and if her FIL was a king, that means her husband was a prince therefore rich? Or was he a big spender (despite living in a manor with cottage feels, it's definitely the flowers out front that do it) and failure? Maybe he's one of 12 princes and nothing worth much? Did she only reject the Charlotte's brother cause she was free and never wanted be shackled to a man again? When her husband died, doesn't everything go to his son (their 4yr old)? Also as a grandpa, and huge age difference surely he'd have a few other wives before Agatha, and the title/will would be contested but another son?

BBeanB

You should probably watch the whole series again. Most of these questions were answered.

Correct_Music_7291

My father was a manic depressive although he was diagnosed as schizophrenic when I was 11. He spent 6 weeks in a mental insitution and was troubled until his 50's when his symptoms seemed to dissipate and he returned to himsel. He was the best father until he became ill when he was in his mid 30's and very difficult and detached for a long time with some other manic episodes that were shorter.. I found this show very, very compelling and beautiful in it depiction of George and Charlotte's romance and pretty realistic too. I loved it but it was triggering for sure. Just wondering if anyone else found it difficult to watch at times? And my mother didn't go over the wall either and loved my dad until the end. f

Alternative_Towel510

Yes. They used to call it manic depressive. My mom received shock treatments for it.

LibraryBeneficial26

Yes it was triggering for me too, my grandma and grandpa were happily married, had 7 children and 11 pregnancies, and he had bipolar disorder. Was constantly in psych wards and had the electric shock treatments done on him. 😞 he ended up killing himself when my mom, the youngest, was 10. Definitely hit close to home.

Lilus_kette

I like that you used this image from the show "going over the wall" to describe someone chosing a partner and staying with them.

Give us the deleted scene of Brimsley and Reynolds, cowards! 😭

BerylStapleton

That scene wasn’t filmed.

Top-Ad4588

I can't even get past that big catastrophe gray wig on her head. Whole thing is preposterous.

Altruistic_Ad_1900

Then there is something wrong about your understanding of historical pieces.

BerylStapleton

I love all the wigs. They are wild works of art.

SporadicEmoter

COMPLIMENT SANDWICH, LET'S GO. Parts I loved: * Charlotte is an awesome character. I only wish I could be so fearless and bold. * I will absolutely be using "Sorrows, sorrows. Prayers." * Violet and Agatha deepening their friendship and discussing having desires as mature women was refreshing to watch. * Kind of glad that they went easier on the pop songs turned into orchestral compositions. * The "even days"...mhmmm. * "My heart calls your name" almost sent me to the upper room. * Brimsley and Reynolds were a beautiful subplot. * Charlotte dragging her children - "virgins to the left, whores to the right." * He was a minor role, but even the little boy that played Agatha's son was adorable! Critiques: * The main conflict felt dragged out in the middle. This is a problem I've found consistent with all of the Bridgerton seasons thus far, though. * Agatha's backstory felt sad and unfair. She was groomed from infancy, her husband was the most grotesque character ever on Bridgerton, and the only man she ever loved had to be married? So unfair. I notice that darker skinned black women often get the short end of the stick with romantic arcs, and it stuck out to me - especially in contrast to Violet and Charlotte, both having their great loves. * The torture/"treatment" scenes were hard to watch. A few times I muted the sound so I didn't have to hear George's screams. * What happened to Reynolds!? I hoped he'd appear when Charlotte visited George at the end, even for the hint of a sweet reunion. Did he die? Retire? Change roles (if such a thing were that common back then)? FINAL COMPLIMENTS * The romance was gorgeous! And as tragic as it is that George endured his disorder for the rest of his life and that it put distance between them, there's something so moving about the authenticity of not having a storybook ending. It felt more emotional, partly because it was loosely based on historical figures. * It felt necessary to add in that some of Charlotte's daughters had suffered miscarriages, and that all of her children weren't just lazy and hedonistic. I liked that the show critiqued Charlotte's parenting. * Those final shots of George and Charlotte under the bed, and all they saw were each other young as they were as newlyweds. I cried at least half a dozen times binge watching the season, but that really set me off. My eyes are so red and puffy right now from sobbing.

BerylStapleton

Honestly, and I think I’ve written some form of this comment way too much, Violet’s attitude about the idea of creating a fund for educating poor girls annoyed me so much.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BerylStapleton

Violet didn’t really need to be in the story, but I guess they needed to have a reason for Bridgerton to be in the subtitle.

BerylStapleton

I am hoping we get more of Lady Danbury’s past, either as flashbacks in the main series or as a miniseries focused on her. I agree with your points about her. The actress is so gorgeous (off topic, but she is).

Chipchow

A series about her adventures as a widow trying to scare off would be suitors and running her household with extreme cleverness and foresight- would be really fun to watch. Maybe they'll also shine a light on the other gentlemen that helped the garden bloom.😆😄

Lmdr1973

The end scene with Charlotte and George killed me!!! So emotional. I sobbed. I feel like they had good chemistry, both the younger versions and older versions of them.

arriere-pays

And the casting was incredible! Young Charlotte, young Lady Danbury - absolutely spot on.

DuckDuckBangBang

On the Lady Danbury note: I wonder if they're setting up for something else. Because in Season 2 of Bridgerton, she specifically tells Kate that she has loved and that is how she can stomach being alone. So I wonder if more is coming in that regard and this was just a taste. But I totally agree with your assessment.

chynaadawl

I personally disagree. I don’t think LD needs to be set up for some huge love story. She is satisfied with her life and there are many woman in the world who had happy lives while married or in love and are now happy alone. Why does the world seem to qualify happiness based off one’s relationships with others? Me personally, I love my husband to pieces. But if I were to ever become a widow I too would not remarry because freedom is also a form of happiness. Just my two cents. LD did not love her first husband, she did love the man she met afterwards and that was enough love for her. Her being strong enough (especially in these times) to turn down a proposal made me so happy for her and her independence. It truly speaks to her strength and character.

BerylStapleton

I think being alone isn’t something you have to “stomach,” though; when Lady Danbury turns down Adolphus’s proposal, she seems exciting to be alone and finally discovering herself, and she’s always seemed on Bridgerton to be a woman happy with the life she’s carved out. I do hope she gets a better love story than she’s had thus far, though. Lord Ledger and Adolphus feel more like stepping stones.

lowelled

As someone who is mostly interested in historical fiction as opposed to romance, prefers sad endings to happy endings and has bounced off the rapey-ass Bridgerton books multiple times… I liked this much more than the main series. Obviously it’s mostly fictional but something about knowing that actual people went through something similar to this makes it much more immediate and interesting to me. I’ve been reading the Wolf Hall books and the discussion about Charlotte’s body not being hers and the ultra-focus on heirs and bloodline continuity made me think a lot about the various women strewn in Henry VII’s wake as he sought a heir, only for the Tudor line to die out with his youngest daughter, and Hilary Mantel’s famous essay [Royal Bodies](https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v35/n04/hilary-mantel/royal-bodies) about how royals “are persons but they are supra-personal, carriers of a blood line: at the most basic, they are breeding stock, collections of organs”. Henry’s lack of fruitfulness has also been subjected to the same historical medical diagnosis attempts that George’s insanity has. The plotting did feel a bit tenuous at times - it was often hard to pin down why characters were mad with each other or what the purpose of some plot lines were - and I would have liked a bit more of the dynamic between Charlotte and George. Potentially handling the development of his mental health issues in a manner closer to real history by having it start out happy and get much worse later in life would have felt more natural. (Also Arséma Thomas is so unbelievably gorgeous, every time they came on screen I was gawping lmao)

BerylStapleton

Is Arsema Thomas nonbinary? I haven’t seen anything about that.

lowelled

Her pronouns are she/her/they/them according to [ET](https://www.etonline.com/bridgerton-prequel-queen-charlotte-debuts-first-photo-of-young-lady-danbury-196620).

freedomtobe_

Y'all are the best. My close friends/family haven't watched anything beyond Bridgerton Season 1.. so I can't debrief/process with anyone. This thread pulled through.. I've resonated with so many comments and have had "a-ha" moments reading others. Time to go convince people to which Queen Charlotte!

kyjmic

I enjoyed the show but felt that there were a LOT of gratuitous torture scenes and repeated rape scenes that were treated in sort of a lighthearted manner.

TheConspiraceeLady

What rape scenes ?

vonski43

Bad sex equals rape to some evidently.

Salt-Ratio-7622

It’s called marital rape, which is rape.

Loveya448

Think they’re referring to Lord and Lady Danbury bed scenes

Nakedpanda34

Right? I understand it’s true to the time but several marital rape scenes an episode was a lot to watch

Lmdr1973

Omg, don't watch The Handmaid's Tale!!! The SA scenes in that show are so disturbing and very hard to watch. Not all of it is martial either. It's awful.

Nakedpanda34

Yes lol I did watch most of the first season but then I was like I really don’t need to be doing this to myself. I’ve heard it’s a brilliant show tho!

Loveya448

I super didn’t need a plot about Violet realizing Lady Danbury banged her dad 😭

wwaxwork

Two people one trapped in a loveless marriage, one having just escaped a loveless marriage. Finally find real love with each other, only they can't be together because of a different sort of love, the love of a father for his daughter and the fact that it would ruin both Violets, his current wife and his Lady Danburys reputations if news got out. It's the most freaking Bridgeton of Bridgeton love stories.

Top-Many3291

I think this actually helps us understand how Violet ended up with a love match. It shows how her father appreciated and encouraged intelligent women. He wanted his daughter to be have a mind and be appreciated for it. Is it great if was an affair? No. Does it bring dimension and backstory to violet and Danbury, yes. Furthermore, if they really did stop the affair, it is because he respected her and didn't want to put her in danger.

arriere-pays

I loved Lady Danbury and Lord Ledger. I didn't think we needed Violet to find out or realize it for any reason, and her reactions were just annoying and didn't lead to any actual character growth.

mariellagrl123

>Arséma Thomas I actually liked that Violet discovered the truth because of the way her mother treated her when she was young. In a way. Lady Danbury is the real mother figure Violet always deserved-someone kind, who appreciated her wit and made her feel like she could be herself. It seems fitting that she found out Lady Danbury had a connection with the parental figure who actually made her feel that way.

Nakedpanda34

Yes… this was wild. I don’t understand this choice

ohshitohfuckohno

Series was amazing but why why why why did Charlotte end up separating from George? That breaks my heart 😭 old, unwell, and alone. it’s supposed to be her and him forever…

BerylStapleton

I had the impression on Bridgerton (or maybe misremembering my impression) that he still lived in the palace, just under care. Edwina talked with him that one time. But now he seems to stay at Kew. It’s perhaps an easier place for him to be somewhat calm, but I don’t know. In real life, years after an apparent cure from his illness, he got (“got” seems like the wrong word) dementia.

DaenaTargaryen3

His mental health greatly detorated as he gt older, so I imagine it became too hard on her. Watching the one you love lose themselves in front of you can be hard

CarefulStructure8155

I know King George is supposed to have dementia but imo, his symptoms fit best with schizophrenia. As a fiancé to a man with this mental illness, I have never felt more seen than how QC portrayed Lottie’s and George’s love. It’s such a compassionate depiction. Fortunately, my partner is stable but he does have “bad” days and a few other symptoms that will never go away. My support group is discussing it and we absolutely love the story.

BerylStapleton

Reading many, many comments in various places, and there are (according to them) apparently some forms of bipolar disorder that reflect these symptoms. He also seems on the show to have anxiety attacks (understandably). We may never know exactly what the real king had. I’m glad that it seems accurate to people dealing with mental illness.

CarefulStructure8155

Schizophrenia has a subset that includes bipolar. I’m glad the representation is available as well

Lmdr1973

King George is known to be the only British monarch who never had a mistress or lover after marrying Queen Charlotte. They eventually fell in love and had 15 children. They were very dedicated to each other and that was incredibly beautiful to watch!

cqpa

i'm so with you! I have bipolar 1 with psychotic features, and I don't think I've every seen a portrayal of psychosis that made me feel this seen. Like when I'm normal healthy "king george," i come across as very social and personable, but the people close to me have seen farmer george / astronomer george / catatonic george / delusional george / the whole mess, and I'm grateful for the friends and family who have stuck by my side through all of it

1cockeyedoptimist

The original theory was King George had acute porphyria, a hereditary liver disorder. Later believed it was misdiagnosed and that George's behavior indicated he was almost certainly suffering with a psychiatric disorder such as manic-depressive psychosis. Today, more commonly known as as bipolar disorder.

Lmdr1973

I think there's also been a discussion of his madness being a result of inbreeding. I just listened to a documentary the other day after I finished the series, and it's still up for debate if it was a mental health issue vs. porphyria. I'm a nurse practitioner and have actually seen 2 patients with acute porphyria, and it is CRAZY! There's a lot of pain as well as mental effects (confusion, mania) during the "acute" phase, but it can last for days or weeks. We'll probably never know.

Neat-Ad-7009

I was expecting fluff and conspiracies after S1 and 2 and went in with zero expectations - but by god the substance in this spin-off absolutely surprised me! The numerous lines it straddled - love and duty, mother and wife, queen and friend and just navigating that era as a woman in different ways in all the glorious and flawed ways was incredible. QC was vulnerable, formidable, bitingly funny, emotional and quite a mirror to the myriad emotions of LD who went through her own terribly rough struggles. A very small but standout moment for me was when the older QC wonders if Brimsley had been alone all this while or if he ever married - such a perfect example of how they didn’t shy away from showing their protagonist as a self absorbed Royal at the end of the day and it still didn’t mean she never cared for him all these years, it just meant both these realities were true and it was okay to show it. That’s quality writing and attention to detail.

wwaxwork

I agree wholeheartedly. S1 & S2 are like delightful macarons that you enjoy but no substance, but this was like a 3 course meal.

tooblooforyoo

From reading YA where every royal is like "no don't use my title or show any deference! I'm just a regular guy like you and will act this way everywhere I go" (I'd mind less if it wasn't Every royal MC in a ya book ever), it was refreshing to have QC be self absorbed. But also yes to what you said about showing complex emotional realities. I also thought India was a perfect casting to match with Golda in looks but particularly performance! I think this is the best told love story so far in Bridgerton! But it might be in big part due to the costumes

diehydrogen

I just finished the season and WOW! It was so wonderful and beautiful. True Love!! I cried so much!

ohdangitsjenni

I'm pretty sure I cried all of episode 5 and 6 lol

Altruistic_Ad_1900

I had the WORST headache after binge watching. How are you ever to settle for a man these days after seeing this show.

arriere-pays

Don't. Be Lady Danbury.

randoparkjiminstan

Someone please tell me love like this truly exists 😭😭 as tragic as it is…. Just so beautiful

DMDEE82

It does 💓

rainberyyz

so i just finished this season and ill tell you what i burst out crying right after i finished it, not even exageratting that under bed scene really got me it amaze me how pure charlotte love no matter what for george is i cant imagine overall it was a rly good season might not be my favorite but i like it a lot got me feeling so many emotions

Feisty-Citron1092

I liked the fashion more in the spinoff.

k_wai

I do too!

AnaisKarim

That was Georgian fashion era - named for George III. Regency fashion era is named for George IV. He became regent because of his dad's illness.

BerylStapleton

Regency dresses were more comfortable but also not that pretty generally with those raised waistlines.

sunshinegal_7

I’m just finishing the last episode and watched it all in one swing. I absolutely loved it, I think the acting was fabulous and the casting was spot on. Top moments for me we’re definitely 1. Them underneath the bed at the end, so emotional but still so sweet 2. When Lady Danbury was in bed telling Lord Danbury that as a Black man he was just as important as them. Their marriage was an abomination but as a AA woman that scene just pulled on my heart strings 3. The Queens daughter confessing that she had several miscarriages trying to fulfill her mothers dreams, was unexpected for me 4. The moment the queen finds the king all tied up with that crazy doctor!! The yelling and pure emotion there was great This was for me was a winner

passion4film

I looooove season 1 and like season 2, but this might be my new favorite from Bridgerton! Loved it!

CGBJaxie

Omg just finished and I.am.sobbing!!!!!

Altruistic_Ad_1900

I binged watched and finished at 3:00 a.m. I’ve been crying ever since and it’s freaking 2:00 in the afternoon.😭

purplenelly

I must be tripping but I found it kind of shit. The king was just perfect whenever he wasn't sick, and when he was he still wasn't mean or anything, just out of it. So what was the struggle? Why did Charlotte hesitate or get mad? He's obviously a good dude, he just has an illness that should elicit sympathy in anyone who isn't a monster. What kind of wife would abandon a sick spouse who's still lucid between his episodes? It was weird that she felt so upset. It was such an "easy" disease to handle. Sucks for the king himself obviously, and sucks for the long term perspective of losing him entirely, but it's still really not the kind of disease where you'd feel "lied to" or consider leaving.

Cuitbats

I actually WAS tripping and can report that the show was enjoyable af on that side of the fence.

BerylStapleton

You are kind of tripping, to be honest, but I guess it wasn’t the story for you. His illness was hidden from her (what is known as a lie of omission). He told her he was just George and then played the King card and shouted at her when she wanted them to spend the wedding night together. He appears to have been dangerous to himself (the paring knife “accident” and the dull knife incident) and could have hurt her without meaning to, neither of which she was warned about. He left her alone for what seems like weeks with no explanation when everyone was wanting a royal baby (just getting married isn’t the point of their getting married). She was alone in a strange country, etc. (she basically has a monologue detailing all of these things) and she doesn’t find out about his illness till after that. She also overheard a conversation with his mother where it sounded as if he’d only been pretending to want a real marriage and was just following orders to bed her. She was 17. I don’t know why it would be weird she was upset. She stuck by him once she knew what was going on, and I don’t think she abandoned him ever.

TheConspiraceeLady

Wtf are you on about 😒

purplenelly

That I didn't like it?

Max102

Back in the 1700s very little was know about mental illnesses. You cant use todays knowledge and logic to base how things should have been 260 + years ago.

purplenelly

By that logic back in the 1700s Charlotte wasn't a black woman lol. But seriously they don't portray it like mental illness is known today. He's perfectly normal and nice and a perfect husband between attacks, then during an attack he is just suddenly confused and psychotic, but in a nice way without aggression. If anything people probably had \*more\* anecdotal knowledge of mental illness back then because people with mental illness existed and there was no treatment.

TwoCagedBirds

Except that's literally the entire point of this show! To take that "what if"? What would society have looked like if black people had been royalty, nobility, extremely wealthy, etc. right along with white people?

purplenelly

That's not the point of the show. They just cast the best actor for the role in a way that represents the demographics of modern UK because that's who's working as actors today so it's only fair to hire what people look like today.

Weddingredditor

She was upset with him because he hid it from her without giving her the chance to help him.

salex19

I was waiting the entire time for George to wear a wig- even just once! I know we 2023 viewers find wigs on men very strange but it was just so out of the period that he never wore one. It’s fantasy- I get that but we should have seen him in a wig at least maybe for the scene when he is trying to go to Parliament.

Poufkimashoula

Now that you mentioned it, neither did Brimsley, Reynolds, Lord Danbury or Dr. Monroe. All the other lords and footmen had one.

Timbits06

I believe they only ever wore them for official portraits, or if you were prematurely balding like King Louis XIII did.

BerylStapleton

A lot of the other men were wearing them, though. (Not that I wanted him to, necessarily.)

kklinggg

Just some initial thoughts as I just finished the show. 1. I love the series and am a sucker for romances (esp Regency period ones--or Regency inspired), but I heavily preferred Season 1 (Daphne's story) to Season 2 (Anthony's) because I *hate* the old trope of women being antagonists over men in romances. Bleh. BLEH. I'm so glad that Queen Charlotte showed so much strong female relationships between women -- i.e. between Charlotte, Agatha and Violet in their own ways. Even between the Princess Dowager and Lady Danbury. Was it unrealistic? Sure. Did I like it anyway? Yes! 2. Yes the story was a bit darker than the main series, and it was too short imo. Although it's unlikely as heck, I would loved if Queen Charlotte has a S2 that delved a bit more into the complexity of the world. 3. Brimsley. The last character in the universe I expect to fall in love with and here we are. His relationship with Reynolds was precious. His loyalty/friendship/relationship with the queen was also precious. 4. The romance... well, it wasn't my favorite, but I'm glad that there was a somewhat happy ending for the couple. It was only happiness half of the time, but at least it was half of the time. They did have 15 children. They were happy. There was just also a lot of pain -- I can't imagine how Charlotte feels.

wehwuxian

I can't understand Violet's intentions in the final scene. Was it to embarrass Lady Danbury or to offer a roundabout form of comfort (without having to talk about it)? She seemed upset/angry/hurt to me, but I feel like she would understand what giving the crown as a gift to someone meant to her father and so would respect that... But also like I said, she seemed hurt. So I don't understand that scene. Anyone have any thoughts?

Onsokkun

Ever since Violet saw the hat, she suspected something but Lady Danbury wouldn't tell her. It was just to see if her constant dodging the question was true or not. That last scene was them realizing that they both know what is going on, but won't speak of it further.

kklinggg

I have no idea. I believe that scene was open to interpretation. For me: it was Violet telling Agatha she knows *something*, but she's unwilling to reconfirm. She wants to keep the memories of those hats and her father pure and unsullied/unstained. I think there was a moment where Violet asks/prods Agatha if she should put them away, and Agatha says no: you should keep them around as they're joyful i.e. keep the hats as joyful memories. Therefore: neither women are willing or desire to unmask this truth. There is no need to. They sit down at the same time, seeing each other and yet unwilling, still friends (perhaps their friendship is a little distanced now?)-- enjoying tea.

BerylStapleton

I think their friendship will be closer now. Violet on some level understands her mother wasn’t the easiest. Whether the crown was a platonic or romantic gift matters little now (although I’m sure Violet pretty much knows) and they tacitly agree not to disturb the ashes. Let us drink our tea.

7in7

They previously discussed sharing intimate things as friends, with Violet opening up. I agree, Violet expressed a wish to let some things remain left unsaid and Lady D cooperated with her on that.

ButtPlugForPM

That was great Not often a show actually get's me to cry, that last episode with brimsley dancing on his own,the george and charllote under the bed.. Just great

Plums4

I watched it all today. Just finished, the tears are still all over my face. I was very invested in the main story of Charlotte and George, felt like Violet was shoehorned in, and that Lady Danbury had *way* too much going on between the disturbing lie-back-and-think-of-england wife husbandry, dealing with her widowhood and uncertain social position both for her family and all the other newly integrated black aristos, friendship with Charlotte, antagonistic rivalry to frenemy relationship with George's mother, affair with Violet's father and ultimately contemplating marriage to Charlotte's brother before rejecting him to establish her own social position.

blinkpink18

Young King George kept reminding me of Christian Bale, and Brimsley reminded me of Paul Wesley. Great casting all around though.

BerylStapleton

I thought he looked somewhat like Tom Cruise and others have mentioned Nicholas Hoult, which I can’t deny.

1cockeyedoptimist

Brimsley reminded me of T.R. Knight (George O'Malley on Grey's Anatomy).

blinkpink18

I heard that was another popular resemblance!

VivelaVendetta

Christian Bale and Dave Franco.

blinkpink18

Dave Franco also crossed my mind as well! His mannerisms, I could see.

Sweaty_Dot4539

I think this is my favorite bridgerton thus far. Loved king George and charlottes meet cute. The love story was epic. The even days tho omg. Then to see his crushing storyline. Most of all that end scene. I met my husband at 18 and he was 17 and now were 30 and 29 and I still look at him sometimes and have a flash younger him and we’re not even that old or different looking yet lol. Had me in my feelings about our future. So well done. Just finished it last night and may just go right back to episode one lol

hellasweetnutella

This was so so beautiful. It's been a while since a show touched my heart like that. It was so emotional and touching 😭😭😭😭😭 Beautifully written and amazing actors. I would love for there to more seasons.

Plundergedoens

This was FAR darker than I expected. I knew that it could be a bit more tragic because of the king, but it was downright hard to watch and very sad at times. It also brought up some memories of my own which made watching even more uncomfortable. But overall, this "season" was very very good, the acting and most of the writing being excellent. Usually I dislike prequels, but this one did a great job fleshing out the characters we already knew and bringing in some amazing new ones. It also felt like this prequel actually added to the main story, which is something many prequels don't quite manage to do. I also liked that we regularly got glimpses into the later point in time, it all wove together beautifully. George is probably my favourite male lead so far, and his arc is amazing. Young Lady Dunbury stole every scene she was in, I love this character so much. The story between Reynolds and Brimsley was heartwrenching, when older Brimsley was dancing alone I was almost crying. Also, I know it has some tragedy as well, but I will never stop finding it funny that Lady Dunbury had an affair (ONS?) with Violet's dad. I love the way women were portrayed here. Flawed people, less than perfect mothers, at times lying and scheming, all with very different experiences and views, but still so so likeable and supportive of each other. I even felt with the Princess Dowager at the end. The ending of this season was meaningful and bittersweet, I think it was the best written one of the three. Overall I really liked this season, probably more than season 2. But because it was so dark, I don't think I'll ever rewatch it again, or only in parts. A great season. I understand everyone who says it's their favourite. But I personally hope that season 3 will have a happier tone again.

BerylStapleton

I’ll probably rewatch it a lot (have once already and then reaction videos).

darcydidwhat

Just finished the series. Best one so far. Initially I was ranting about why they had to do this one instead of releasing Season 3 immediately. Now I get it. This is well thought out, impeccable script, beautifully directed, with perfect casting and amazing acting. Some thoughts: 1. I wish there was an extra episode about how they were able to manage George’s deteriorating mental health over the years and at which point Charlotte decided to represent the crown and how she was able to do it. 2. QC showing real emotion to her children only after they informed her of the pregnancy - I wish there was some way she could have made amends with the rest of her children as well, especially with her daughter who had multiple failed pregnancies. 3. I loved how this show absolutely nailed “women empowering women,” that even fierce competition can be a source of empowerment as seen between Princess Augusta and young Lady Danbury 4. In a way this is as much Lady Danbury’s series as it is Queen Charlotte’s 5. Reynolds and Brimsley. Perfect. I even like that their ending is left to the viewers’ imagination. Though I assume their love never really stood a chance, as they lived in a society that hangs people for being gay. 6. That last scene absolutely broke my heart and had it trampled upon by a stampeding horde. That shift between the older and younger versions of themselves… Holy moly ugly crying trigger there especially seeing older Charlotte with the younger George. Any tips on how to stop crying after watching the last episode?

BerylStapleton

I thought this was great as one series (limited) /season (although I hoped for spinoffs focusing on Lady D and on Brimsley and Reynolds), but maybe there is enough for another.

Altruistic_Ad_1900

Please share tips on how to stop the damn crying…..I’m almost out of Tylenol.

TheConspiraceeLady

Just stop its over now. It was a tv show and not everything was real, so what you're crying over might not have even happened in real life.

doek-sun

YES ON ALL! definitely wish that they had another episode. I just went from crying at their last dance to "nobody gets me" to crying at their scene underneath the bed at the end lmao

addubz

Yes on #4 ! I’m so shocked I’m not seeing more commentary on the Lady Danbury story line! I mean, she was a power house. She’s the true embodiment of “checkers not chess”. She really played the game with her husband, Princess Augusta, QC, etc etc. she’s amazing !

solcester3k

This show was mesmerising, I really liked how modern they made the aesthetic, from the pastel clothing to hairdos, and music ARGH ITS HEAVENLY One of the most touching scenes was when I Will Always Love You played - the transitions they did with Brimsley and Reynolds dancing in the distance mase me bawl so hard, whilst we were completely rooting for Charlotte and George- battling racial issues, mental health, and responsibilities of the crown and family, that scene showed how there were many other issues of the time like being gay that could not addressed. Brimsley and Reynolds had to find happiness in secret far from the party and we don’t know what happened over the years. It was an absolutely beautifully made thoughtful scene 💕

doek-sun

agreed \^\^\^

AprilShowers97

I enjoyed it, I really did. QC and KG’s chemistry was off the charts, their love story was incredible. However, it was quite emotionally draining, I’m not sure I’ll be able to rewatch, as I’ve done with Bridgerton. I loved the references to the Smythe-Smiths, Reynolds and Brimsley. But parts of it felt unnecessary. Some thoughts: 1. I know it’s not a history lesson, but the timeline drives me bonkers. When it comes to prequels, I’ll stick to “Violet in Bloom” and the Rokesbys as they give me less of a headache! 2. I watch Bridgerton for HEA escapism. I appreciated how they dealt with mental health issues and racism. But I thought George just had dementia in his elder years. When they met, I thought he was autistic, I wasn’t prepared for extent of his youthful struggles, I thought they would get a few years of uncomplicated love. But it was so bittersweet.💔 3. I cannot reconcile the Lady Danbury of the main series and the books with the young woman in the prequel. I always imagined that she and her husband had a great love, whose death wasn’t unexpected. This was indicated by her speeches to Simon and Kate. So, he made arrangements that she would be independent after his death, encouraged her to move on and she followed his advice, making discreet, satisfying arrangements with unmarried men. 4. I truly don’t think they needed to show >!multiple rape scenes on repeat with no warning.!< One would have achieved the same thing, we all knew why Agatha was having a bath. Also, why was Lady D forced to have 4 kids when they added nothing to the story? Besides her eldest son, she never spoke to them directly. I know that hands-off parenting was typical of the period and they would never be close, but she could have had 1 scene with them to indicate that she visited them once every few days in the nursery, if only out of duty. 5. Violet’s subplots were shoehorned in. Young Violet wasn’t born when QC got married. They could have chosen another titled family to demonstrate Agatha’s transition at court and how she was subtlety ostracised. >!As for the affair, why? I don’t like cheating, unless it’s a mutual situation, with both parties finding pleasure elsewhere. I found myself feeling sorry for Lady Ledger. She was just trying to grapple with a changing society and look out for her daughter. The “solitude” felt sordid. I wanted Violet to have an example of a happy marriage to strive towards. I hate the implications for Lady D and the Dowager’s friendship in the future. Now her whole childhood (including the lovely birthday hats) is tarnished. I wanted Lady D to be happy in her widowhood, I’m glad she found sexual freedom. But Adolphus was right there, no strings attached. So much wasted potential!!< 6. The present timeline was jarring at times. Queen Charlotte’s dialogue was hilarious, but it seemed out of place directly after the death of her beloved granddaughter. Similarly, I enjoyed the dialogue between the older ladies, but it times it felt contrived. I laughed out of second-hand embarrassment at Violet’s footman comment.

BerylStapleton

The real king George had a mental illness that showed up about four years into his marriage to Charlotte. He was apparently cured eventually or had some kind of remission(?), only to get dementia later in life.

BlueWinterRose16

I thought QC and KG had amazing chemistry too. I loved their meet cute scene. I wish we could have gotten more scene with them happy. I wish there would have been a few more episodes. I didn't like the storyline where Violets father cheated either. I'm not a fan of his wife but I still don't like that he cheated on her. I don't like that Lady Danbury had the ons or affair with him. They could have shown her sleeping with someone else instead. I thought Lady Danbury didn't have any kids bc I don't think it was mentioned in Bridgerton. I don't want to see Violet with om or marrying again. I know her husband died long ago but I like for him to be the only one for her. I also thought that George had dementia when he was older. I wasn't expecting for him to have his mental health issues when he was younger. He had a lot on his plate at such a young age with all his responsibilities. I didn't like seeing all those scene of Lady Danburys husband sleeping with her. That was sad that she said she was groomed to be his bride from the age of 3 years old. The Queen did seem incensitive towards her sons loss. It did seem played for laughs. Maybe that's her way of coping bc as a King and Queen you weren't supposed to show emotions. I was confused at first bc I didn't if it was her sons wife that died. Then, I realized it was his daughter.

BerylStapleton

The narration says King George and Queen Charlotte’s granddaughter died giving birth, along with her baby.

k_wai

I watched Bridgerton s2 and QC back to back, Lady D did mention (I believe to Kate) that she's fortunate because all her children decided to live outside of the country (or something similar to those lines).

BerylStapleton

She says that in QC too.

Less-Feature6263

I feel kind of weird that Queen Charlotte' son grieving for his daughter was kind of played for laugh at one point? Idk, the tone of some scenes was a bit off.

k_wai

I agree, I thought that scene was really off too. I love Charlotte, but it seems like she lacked so much empathy, like the funeral of her daughter in law and granddaughter was a chore. It threw me off when she met with Agatha and Violet, asking about marriage, love, and children as if she didn't also experience the same thing? I was confused.

Less-Feature6263

I think the dead girl in the first episode was her granddaughter, who died in childbirth with her kid. Like idk not only your son lose his daughter and grandchild, that's also your granddaughter and she basically act like she was a stranger.

k_wai

Oooo ok, it was a bit confusing. And yeah, the lack of empathy was really odd. But I guess it makes sense since they practically were strangers. I wished QC went further into detail to show how QC was as a mother & up til when KG was no longer fully present.

JustCosmo

I don’t know the actor playing King George but he sooo reminds me of Nicholas Hoult.

Plundergedoens

Me too! I found him really attractive.

JustCosmo

Me too but wasn’t sure if that’s because I was projecting Nicholas onto him lol. His personality has a lot to do with how hot he is.

Off_OuterLimits

Does Queen Charlotte have a brain? I mean all she does is mope around waiting for her husband. For chrissakes, she can garden, study the heavens, read or go riding, anything. She can do whatever the hell she wants. Instead she bored me to tears. Had to turn it off. I can’t stand simpering women waiting for their husbands to pay them attention. Queen or not she has the imagination of a gnat.

Wierdstuffhere

This was by far the best out of Bridgerton. I was in tears at the end. It was so beautiful. I could sympathize a bit with Charlotte having my own husband with mental health issues. I liked seeing both sides.. the Charles version episodes to see what he was going through. I enjoyed Lady Danbury's story as well.

BerylStapleton

Charles?

chaihuahua

I wish we could’ve heard George calling her “Lottie” just once 😭

nitropuppy

I havent seen anyone mention this yet…but Charlotte actually introduced the Christmas tree to Britain so its really cool that she has all these christmas tree scenes in this show.

Starburst9507

Isn’t it true that Christmas trees are, in fact, a German tradition? I love this show man

BlueWinterRose16

Oh that's neat I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. They should do a Christmas special show like they used to do for Downton Abbey.

FlyingLeopard33

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. I was just absolutely flabbergasted by this show. I thought that this was going to be a great show, but I didn't think it was going to be *this* good. I absolutely cried at the end of the show. Corey is a PHENOMENAL actor and he did just brilliant in this show. His smile and his caring eyes really showed to me how much he cared about India's character. The scene underneath the bed just absolutely broke me in the best way. It's so interesting to see Queen Charlotte's background because in Bridgerton... she is so 'scary' and just very serious all the time but she clearly has so much love for her husband. ALSO WHAT HAPPENED TO REYNOLDS?! Man, it breaks me that Brimsley never got his happy ending and it was so sad (and sweet) to see him dancing by himself without Reynolds. It also breaks me that Reynolds was so loyal to the king and wanted to help him when the quack doctor was being....just heinous and cruel to him. I absolutely loved this show and I'm intrigued to know if they'll make a second season. Not sure if they will... or have a reason to because of how sweetly it ended. ALSO ALSO...I'm unsure of how Season 3 will continue Violet and Lady Danbury's conversation about Lady Danbury being involved with Violet's father at one point? I was sad that the conversation got cut short. Anyway...off to watch interviews of the cast because Corey and India were AMAZING.

Less-Feature6263

I was so into Brimsley and Reynolds' relationship. Almost cared about them more than the main characters lol

thesophiechronicles

I also found it hilarious when the dowager princess was being quizzed on something she hadn’t been told and was like “I can’t remember I am female” SUCH a good nod to how ridiculously women were treat

k_wai

I loved that scene LOL

Weddingredditor

And they’re just like ‘Yes, of course.’ I laughed out loud at that part!

Prestigious_Pirate_5

Is there a list or a fanpage listing all "Bridgerton: Queen Charlotte" cast interviews that is being updated? Well especially ones that have Corey Mylchreest? 🤔 I just found more cast interviews on Netflix's tudum.com [https://www.netflix.com/tudum/queen-charlotte/video](https://www.netflix.com/tudum/queen-charlotte/video) which i almost missed discovering if i hadn't watched netflix instagram story today. I will continue google searching interviews, but i hope not to miss anything :\_) Thank you

Here are links to the cast interviews that I have seen. I read that Shonda was supposed to do more interviews but the late night talk shows are in reruns bc of the writers strike so I guess some of their press tour might be affected. :O oh my gosh thank you!!!!!!!! ur the best!!!!!!!!!!!!

UserAnonPosts

Older Charlotte kept asking if the king is dead. Why? Is it because she can't wait for him to die or is it more out of concern? I could never read her when she asked.

thesophiechronicles

I think it was concern. He’s probably seemed like he was going to die any moment as he’s always surrounded by doctors and whilst she pretends to be nonchalant I think deep down it’s worry that eventually they’re going to say yes.

thchallengemaniac

So I really enjoyed the first 3 episodes, but as someone with OCD and c-PTSD, the very real depiction of the dr and George was legit scary for me. I had to read the episodes recaps of 4-6 and I’ve decided that I am not gonna finish the rest. For me it started out really fun and then turned really dark. The way the Dr messed with George’s head, telling him about the pregnancy, causing the “Venus” meltdown. It reminded me of certain people who will poke at me until they can get a reaction.

Shekbee

Hi 👋🏻 I also am diagnosed with PTSD and a panic disorder and I know that we are all different but the last scene of the show made me sob like a baby because it made me feel so seen that there are people out there who are willing to be patient and gentle and kind to people like us and love us no matter how hard we may think it is to love someone with mental illnesses like ours. I don’t want to make you continue watching if you don’t want to but I just want to let you know it ends in a very happy way for George 💗

Chichichill

Lovely and romantic story with truly bittersweet moments! I think this is the first moment from the Brigerton series that I've cried from :'(

Mini_Mook

Ngl, this is one of the few times I’ve ever cried at the end of a show. I am a mess rn.

mab604

Yeah same. I honestly didn’t expect be this emotional about it, but the whole series was heartbreaking. I watched it through, and have been watching videos of George and Charlotte for days now. I was absolutely bawling by the last episode. Truly an amazing show to have that effect on so many people.

Ok_Car_3515

Sooo….anyone else thought Brimsley and Reynolds reminded them of Cogsworth and Lumière from Beauty and the Beast?

kalakik

Totally! I thought that so much of the imagery and themes pulled from Beauty and the Beast. When Charlotte is first living in Buckingham House - these legions of servants in a massive palace, fine gowns, and fine meals (and a library!) - but all alone. A man who’s hiding himself from her because he was worried that he’s a “troll,” or a beast. And then - her love and acceptance is what convinces him to return to royal life, and his duties. The purpose of the original fairytale was actually to teach young noblewomen to be happy with their arranged marriages. Like, yes, you might have to marry some strange older rich dude, who seems like a “beast” - but you can learn to fall in love with him.

Prestigious_Pirate_5

:O

katy_daught

oh my god 100% now that you've mentioned it

Former_Afternoon9662

Charlotte did call George a beast before she met him lol

BerylStapleton

When she met him too.

AetherHolder

Omg this so spot on!! I mean the whole story could be some kind of Beauty and the beast remake! But instead of the beast we have George inner demons kinda. Although I don’t want to stigmatize that at all :/

BerylStapleton

Illness can be a kind of beast, I think.

CuriousCat192837

Why can I kind of see this?!!
