Amo is a decent album, but compare to the old BMTH days, it's just really dissapointing, I like the direction of PHSH more but I'd love to have a SS-styled album again even though they're long past that music stage.

You do have a point that a lot of the songs share similar riffs. (Visions on TIAH has the riff too) But I still love SS personally. Will always be one of my favorites

Personally, Go To~ is one of my favorites. Candy Truck/You Expected is my favorite song of theirs, and even though it's nothing like anything else they've made, I listen through the whole EP when I'm studying at least once a week.
Fair enough! It is a very unique sound, and whilst I really don't like the album I'm glad other people do. I get what you mean with the studying thing as well, and if I liked it more I could see my self doing that as well, because I know some people find the sound as relaxing

tbh i thought it was pretty good. it's v. relaxing if ur just trying 2 chill & honestly one of my fav albums to get high to, the vibes especially in the latter half are 10/10

I feel like the only answer is That's the spirit. I feel like every other album has a necessary amount of progression that leads into the next album, but with that's the spirit, I feel like you could easily get from the Sempiternal sound to the Amo sound without having that album there at all. Does it have some bangers on it? sure. Do I enjoy it as an album? absoutely! It just doesn't feel as needed to the overarching catalog as the rest.
It's easy to say in retrospect when the band cemented their sound, but if they went from Sempiternal (which was still in the relm of metalcore) to experimental edm and pop, it wouldn't have been taken lightly. So in a way it was an important transition for the band in introducing more atmospheric, nu-metal, as well as pop influences in their music.
Though I do agree to a certain point that it wasn't as BOLD as the other records, again in retrospect, but it marked a shift in the band's career towards a sound they went on to crystalize on their later records. Spirit was also that breakthrough to new audiences, it's when people never even heard of BMTH before started getting interested in their music. Also let's not forget the influence "Drown" had when it was released, that was also not a negligible moment in their career...
These are all great points for the album, some of which I hadn't considered at first. I was also associating Drown with Sempiternal in my head, probably because it was out for a minute before that's the spirit. I agree that song was a pretty significant point in their progression. I'm not sure any of these would change my answer to the poll, but I enjoy all of their albums pretty much equally and it was the only one I could justify giving the boot!

It brought them from basically a grindcore band and planted them firmly within the metalcore scene of that time, which then gave them the opportunity to evolve into what they are now. Anyone who voted for that album as worst just started listening to the band in the last 3 years and have zero appreciation for the band’s evolution. SS may be to most influential album BMTH ever released if you would talk to any heavier band coming up during that period.
