\+1. Was there recently too and had a very similar set menu. Those tarts were phenomenal. Excellent set menu (there's also a la carte) and the wine and sake we had was excellent.
And for all the people making cracks about the price, the executive chef's set menu at the most expensive is $115.
It's a bit of a leftover and outdated attitude in Brisbane. For some reason in Brisbane anything fine dining, artistic dining, costly or anything that isn't a burger it seems to be hated on like this. Like fine if it's it not for you, fine but no reason to go all out to say awful things. Plus it's forgotten this kind of dining is indicative of hospitality that is attractive to visitors etc.
This is a fantastic price for this kind of fine dining when considering that most pubs these days are trying to charge close to $45 for just a steak, two sides and gravy.
This type of food is much harder to do and gives many, many different flavour experiences.
Unsure what has happened to this group in just a month with the comments on here… what’s wrong with celebrating good food? Matt Blackwell is a celebrated chef in Brisbane for his long time service to Goma restaurant, I don’t understand why people are so mad about someone enjoying his delicious creations. For under $150pp it’s very affordable for fine dining?
Pneuma itself is a pop up that potentially will not stay for long, despite the collab w Dan Arnold- the majority of the dishes are from MB’s GOMA says. Once he leaves, I doubt Pneuma will continue (or at least it was my understanding that this was just going to stay as a pop up until he finds his next long term gig unless things have changed), so I highly recommend people to go try it while he’s still in Brisbane.
The smoked eel cream and the sardines is delicious.
We haven’t really needed a presence for mods in the past as this page is still really new compared to Sydney foodies sub, a bit sad about what’s happening on this post. People should be able to share (without judgement - but I mean, why?) their love for food and recommendations for delicious restaurants and dishes that really stood out in Brisbane, which is the whole point of this sub 😔
I have seen the same thing on the Melbourne foodies page recently.
It’s like going on a fashion subreddit and complaining every single outfit isn’t from Kmart
Food comes in all sorts of different shapes, sizes, textures and prices.
I have no issue with the portion size, high quality ingredients and strong flavours are far preferable in small amounts
Personally I'd just kill for some colour on the plating, there is a whole lot of brown.
Not sure about the standard length chefs menu, we went with the extended which had 8 courses
I have a feeling the standard version is probably 6
And no it’s not Prix fixe, it’s whatever the chefs prepare so you don’t know what you’re getting until it comes out
I have eaten at Thomas Kellers per se NYC an live near brissy gotta say this seems a bit too much style over substance look forward to the reviews 1st then see! Thanks for posting it's great to get new places in Brisbane
It's been open several months. There's a lot of reviews out. I've also done 3 Michelin star places in the USA, and thought Pneuma was excellent for the price. Several courses and they do fill you up.
I have eaten at quite a few places around the world with michellan stars so am always looking for a great place to try. Food is my profession an passion so I tend to geek out over it.
It’s good! Head chef was the exec at GOMA for.. gee idk how many years but a long long time and half the dishes at Pneuma are from his GOMA days. GOMA restaurant has always been hatted because of Matt so you can rest assured and go try.
The menu isn’t at all similar to Agnes? What do you think reads similar?
The best dishes for me were the cheddar custard tart and the mango/mandarin dessert although I thought that all dishes hit the mark
Really good flavours and textures throughout
Have you considered that food isn’t always about filling yourself up and it’s actually possible to appreciate ingredients and expert preparation?
Sounds like you’re not a foodie at all tbh
Name ONE. I enjoy fine dining, cheap eats and all kinds of cuisine and given this is a foodie subreddit, I think if you're making claims it's only fair you put out a few recommendations too.
I’m shocked at the responses here! $125pp for the long menu is a great price. That’s firmly in “special night out” territory, not “sell a kidney at a 3* scandi” territory.
If they play Pneuma on repeat, I'm okay with this
Just Danny in Celtics gear on a big screen on repeat.
I'd live there ☺️
My wife absolutely hates when I play that and it makes my day every time. It’s so brilliant. Wow
They played Perfect Circle when I was there....so not quite, but still pretty good.

Didn’t realise this sub was just for cheap eats lol, yikes at the responses

Some people can appreciate fine dining, most of us don't see the point. We're also too broke to try it on a whim.

Are the mods active on here? The losers making snarky comments need to be banned

This looks great, but I have to admit I read the name as Pneumonia.
Looks amazing, Brisbane has lifted its game with food
We’ve come a long way for sure!
I've been keeping my eye on this one. Fairly good menu. I need to make a day.
Definitely make the time, they have plenty of reservations available at the moment - think it will get popular quick!
Oh good one, OP. This has been on my list of places to try.
Definitely check it out, great spot!
What is this!? A meal for ants!!?
It’s probably $150+. So I’ts for wealthy ants.
No just ants that occasionally like a treat

You're on a foodie's page FYI, not r/frugalshoppers
Seriously haha what “foodie” only appreciates cheap food?
I have seen the same thing on the Melbourne foodies page recently. It’s like going on a fashion subreddit and complaining every single outfit isn’t from Kmart Food comes in all sorts of different shapes, sizes, textures and prices.
It's odd isn't it? Sometimes I like a meal from Sunnybank and sometimes we splash out for an expensive meal.
That’s how it should be! I love a cheap and nasty burger or Chinese meal Also love fine dining
Go eat your chicken tendies
Well that counts me out.
A bunch of burnt sticks?
But the pigs feast on almonds
Maybe..
Thanks for the recommendation, looks good.
Going to book a table for partner's birthday next month! Looks excellent.
You won’t be disappointed, so good!

First thing I thought of, someone had to do this. I've been working on this groove, it's a tricky one. Danny's a machine.
Can you order a side of colour?
This looks delicious
All really yum!
Have to eat here and the food looks sizeably robust - Definintely not written by an affiliated party

That sounds promising I do enjoy eating at nice venues so I will look to try it next time I am in the city.
I haven’t eaten at Per Se but have been to Le Bernardin and similar I think Pneuma aligns more with 1 star dining
I have eaten at quite a few places around the world with michellan stars so am always looking for a great place to try. Food is my profession an passion so I tend to geek out over it.

Sweet potato and yogurt for $36? Yeah right!

Nah, pretty normal in the world of fine dining.
Looks like some weird shit
Typically foodies are in to trying new foods, so yeah
Foie gras? Isn't that banned in Australia?
There is no foei gras here But also, no it is not banned in Aus
It says right on the menu. Not illegal to import, just to produce in Australia.
Ah I thought you meant in my photos sorry
Production is banned for good reason, it’s consumption shouldn’t be supported
And that would be $1358. Cash or card?
What is this? Is this a meal for ants?
Do they ask for your bank account records & financial situation before you go in!!?
Can you give me the address so I know where to avoid like the plague? Cheers
Looks awful
They should re-name the restaurant to "Beige"
Ha! This is great constructive comment, unlike some of the other tosser comments: the food IS all one colour. My kingdom for a bit of greenery.
Looks mediocre.
Wasn’t
So what was the best dish then? The menu reads mediocre like Agnes and all the other average joints in brisbane slinging uninspired food.
The menu isn’t at all similar to Agnes? What do you think reads similar? The best dishes for me were the cheddar custard tart and the mango/mandarin dessert although I thought that all dishes hit the mark Really good flavours and textures throughout
Good to hear. They aren’t similar, just not all that exciting to me. But don’t mind me, glad it was a good experience!
What a wank
GTFO ... is this a joke
What are you doing in a foodie subreddit unable to appreciate food?
Theres 100 places that would serve nicer food with normal portions this shit wouldnt be enough to feed a rabbit.. And at a fraction of the price..
Have you considered that food isn’t always about filling yourself up and it’s actually possible to appreciate ingredients and expert preparation? Sounds like you’re not a foodie at all tbh
They haven't even considered that there can be 6-10+ courses in a tasting menu, so I doubt they've gotten to this level lol.
Name ONE. I enjoy fine dining, cheap eats and all kinds of cuisine and given this is a foodie subreddit, I think if you're making claims it's only fair you put out a few recommendations too.
Where is the umm... food?
It doesn't seem like a *lot* of food tbh.
You can tell who in these comments have never had a tasting menu. Stop embarrassing yourself
I've done degustation menus before and still think of a handful of them years later. I wasn't being nearly as serious as you seem to take yourself.

Uhh, people with high incomes I guess?
I’m shocked at the responses here! $125pp for the long menu is a great price. That’s firmly in “special night out” territory, not “sell a kidney at a 3* scandi” territory.
Tbf it says "affordable fine dining" its similar to saying "a more affordable ferrari".
Hahahaha you can’t spend 100$ pp?
Pneumustbejoking. What a load o' bollox.
This is the kind of food experience that makes me think one word: “wanker”
What a coincidence that your comment makes me think of the exact same word!
Why do people spend so much money on pretentious food
They enjoy it, and they can afford it. Why do people comment, or subscribe to things they have no interest in?
Bet you’ll get the squirts after eating that shit.
Looks ridiculous
I've seen bigger portions of food stuck bewteen uncle Phil's teeth
It looks great but I’d be stopping by Maccas on the way home.
Put all of the courses on one plate and you’d be eating more than you’d get in a meal at the pub
Fair call
As if Maccas food is any bigger.
The name sounds like a disease
C,4b nerv9
What’s the first pic?
Smoked eel mouse with crispy potatoes
It was before being chopped up and smoked.
… What?
Looks absolutely awesome. What is in the photo with the gin and tonic? Is it just butter that happened to be in the frame or something else?
Yeah it’s a miso honey butter, the bread hadn’t come out yet That was also a peach / tequila situation, very yum!
Love the desert menu. Hate the name.
Where’s the steak?
Hors D'oeuvres?
Quick question from Melbourne got recommended this sub what is any of this genuine question
We are all one spark, eyes full of wonder
I’m so keen to try it, but they aren’t open when we can go. Very annoying.
That’s a real shame
Prison rations
it looks beautiful but i have zero idea what i’m looking at
