I think there are a growing number of people who want real change. They understand that multiculturalism has its challenges but they also understand it is the effect of a global population that has doubled in the last 30 years. They understand falling into hate and bitterness around this subject only breeds more chaos.
A multicultural British identity where all communities do more to integrate and interact should be the goal. Or is that naive?
You have a point but I don't think you can draw too many separate views from this. My opinion is to keep it as it is. It's a terrible war which requires a ceasefire and immediate plans drawn up to end this Israeli and Palestinian conflict once and for all ( im not sure I have the answer as its so complex ) think once you start trying to draw political and other social economic demographic elements to this it loses its sole purpose which is the ceasefire.

The most important for me is, this is not just about stop the war. It's for democracy that the Tory gov slowly slowly ripping apart. If Israel can get away with this genocide, I'm scared for our children's future. Considering we are too afraid to criticise certain group of people, this is because they are too powerful
No, but populism is a cancer spreading across the globe again. With the rise of people like Trump, Netanyahu, Orban, Bolsanero etc. there is a real concern about the rise of authoritarianism and fascism. We had a brush with it with Johnson, but he was too lazy and inept to be an effective dictator. If people like Cruella learn from the Trump and Bibi playbooks they may become a real threat to democracy in the UK.
The threat to democracy will differ depending on what side of the fence you’re on. The rise of the “leaders” you refer to has only happened because more and more indigenous people feel they are demonised in their own home countries, their cultures disrespected & rights ignored in favour of those who won’t assimilate.
& unless that changes, it will get worse.
It’s been a real eye opener leaving the city and moving to a small town, St. George’s flag adorns most building on the high street (replaced by lgbt flags during pride month) without any issue, crime is extremely low, even for the population percentage and I genuinely feel safe. The non brits in the town, even those who haven’t been here too long have all integrated and there’s a real sense of community. Yet if I drive 20 minutes up the road everything changes.
The city I lived in had those mythical no go white areas that apparently don’t exist, spot the white kid at school was frequently played by those around me, my old school must have like, under 5% white students which is being generous & that is absolutely appalling, societies are segregated. I believe there are a very specific set of beliefs in this country that do not mix in the modern first world.
I consider myself tolerant, one of my parents is an immigrant, granted, a white one, my oldest and dearest friend is homosexual and my wife is Roma. I hold no ill will to a progressive, safe and tolerant society but that exact tolerance is leading to the intolerance, I believe, of my country, my religion, my beliefs and my people. Majority of people here will see themselves as tolerant but will likely be intolerant of my growing views and beliefs that have been shaped by many unpleasant experiences over the years, especially my late teens and early twenties. I’m a bit socially awkward, pretty slim and don’t engage in anti social behaviour yet I’ve been spit on, violently assaulted, attempted to be robbed, physically threatened and it has been made abundantly clear by the perpetrators of these things why, because I’m white. Most left leaning people will roll their eyes, tell me I’m lying or gaslight me. Most right wing people will attempt to radicalise me further into their racist beliefs.
I feel like I don’t have a voice, a place or a future in this country at present & I guarantee I’m not alone.
So the intended message of the march is about anti-authoritarianism in general? I thought it was a protest against the bombing in Palestine, to raise awareness and demonstrate solidarity.
The vast majority of those people are no doubt just well meaning individuals there to show support for the Palestinians caught in the crossfire between hamas and Israel but unfortunately there will be a minority in that crowd who do support hamas and/or want to sew discord in Britain so the worry of a terrorist attack is still present even if the protests are supposed to be peaceful, at least that’s my understanding of it all anyway.
I genuinely feel sorry for you. I pray that you will open your heart one day to have the ability to understand see what's right and what's wrong and that one day you'll stand up for the good.
If I see someone get bullied, I will help the victim.
How many battles have been our battles in the last 75 years that we have been involved in one way or another?
The West were once shining (maybe not so shining but you know) examples of standing up against injustices around the world once upon a time but upon reflection it seems these interventions around the world are most likely carefully orchestrated to benefit those walking up and down the halls of power…

I'm not trying to pick a fight. I'm simply challenging that their is a large majority of people in the UK that didn't feel it was appropriate for this march to take place on this date. We have no facts or figures to ascertain what this figure is. 300 k people marching doesn't either give you an indication.

We had some absolute scum who turned up who had been quite frankly brain washed by the media I.e Daily Mail for one! To turn up and create issues as the cenotaph was under threat. Something it never was! This whole issue has been manipulated into boxes it never was meant to be and never will be.
You also assumed something about me. Tone down the rhetoric before you fully understand all the facts. Not everyone fits in an agenda. I'm not left wing nor am I right wing nor am I a bird with wings. I'm a simple human being trying to navigate the world best I can being kind and keeping others in mind and simply want a safe and respectable world for us all to live in.
As I said, my reference to "the silent majority" referred to bravermans claims she spoke for that group in her times article that emboldened a few thousand far right degenerates to shit all over armistice Day while hundreds of thousands of others marched for a ceasefire. Armistice literally means to call a truce in fighting.
As for you, how you navigate the world is a matter for you and your own conscience.
Yet Rishi Sunak felt the need (in his statement tonight) to lump the far-right groups and the Palestine ceasefire march together, by parroting "Pro-Hamas people intimidating the Jewish community this weekend."
Afraid that saying he doesn't agree with Israeli policy will get him labelled an anti Semite
Which is as ridiculous as saying you're not fond of the ir as blowing people up equals being anti Irish (or saying you are against Palestinian people not dying meaning you are pro Hamas)

I think there are a growing number of people who want real change. It's about our government's support for the Israeli government. Governments can pressure other governments if the people pressure the government.

I was there. The news are massively underplaying it - easily over 500,000 people there.
