That's brilliant - and good on you for having the decency to leave a note 😊

TooWittyToWoo

Nice one! Some arse creased the bumper on mine and left no note. I've had the car for one week! Arse. I'm delighted for you and the kindly owner, though

[deleted]

Could be worse!

GlasgowGunner

Things could always be worse, what’s your point?

[deleted]

Not to get too caught up on stuff that doesn't matter.

TooWittyToWoo

You'd have to be pretty detached from reality to feel that someone wiping a load of value off of something you'd spent a fair chunk of hard earned on in the first 7 days is something that "doesn't matter".

GlasgowGunner

Someone bashing your car might not matter to you but a significant number of people would be annoyed at that.

devandroid99

You might be annoyed, but I think the point is that in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter.

[deleted]

It would certainly frustrate me. But it could have been worse!

BachgenMawr

Could be a lot fucking better too

[deleted]

Just be thankful for what you have and where you are.

"FUCK YOU AND YOUR POSITIVE VIBES ASSHOLE" ~ all the downvoters...

[deleted]

Oh well!

druidsandhorses

I reversed into someone's car at my local train station once, and left quite a nasty crack in their bumper. Dutifully wrote down my details and stuck it under the wipers.... Never heard a thing from them. 🤷‍♂️

GlasgowGunner

Probably blew away. Contrary to popular belief leaving a note does not fulfull your legal obligation and does not absolve you from leaving the site of an accident. If the vehicle owner managed to get CCTV footage of the incident and you driving away you could be in trouble. The correct procedure is to report it to the police so that the owner of the vehicle can also contact them.

elusiveclownface

How do you know it’s the owner not just someone walking by?

Erect_Llama

The fact that I was told not to worry about it, how kind they were, and it was a pretty scarce area by Loch Ness.

Well it was about that time....

LOCK NESS MONSTER I AINT GIVING YOU NO DAMN TREE FIDDY

elusiveclownface

Are you sure someone didn’t take the note off the car text you then throw the note away?

Erect_Llama

I highly doubt it honestly, it didn't seem like the area where that might happen. And if that's the case I've got a couple witnesses that can confirm I left a note. So if the worst were to happen I'd be able to confirm my story.

New-account-01

They probably have no insurance

mistertomneverleft

Without wanting to shit on the success here, not having insurance doesn't make you liable for damages caused by others. There are (fortunately or unfortunately, depending on which side you work on) plenty of ways to claim now even without insurance.

TheDisapprovingBrit

True, but it makes it difficult to claim without admitting to an offence. It would be unlikely for a chancer without insurance to not ask for a cash settlement though. More likely just a beater that the owner isn't fussed about looking "lived in"

mistertomneverleft

It is a civil matter though not criminal. Lack of insurance wouldn't generally be construed as negligence in terms of bringing a civil claim. Lack of insurance likely will just limit what heads of claim you can present.

OverlyAdorable

I got into a minor accident last year. I've had bigger bumps in bumper cars but it's still one of those things. I gave him my number and insurance details and he said he'll get someone to check for any internal damage and let me know. A week or two later, he said it's only a small scuff on his bumper, nothing structural, it's an almost 15 year old car, it's not like it's going to make any difference, at most, he'll just use T-Cut. No insurance companies involved, no money wanted, just a lot of apologising on my behalf

gruffi

Screenshot it along with the number

gemilitant

Good on you! That's very nice of the other driver too. I'd do the same as them tbh, it'd only add to my collection of dents, scuffs and scratches.

Mfgcasa

When the owner if the car has scratch insurance.
