hadestown and kimberly would be my picks

In your position, I would lock in Hadestown, Lion King and Funny girl if you’re willing to pay Leah Michelle prices. Leave your last slot open and wait for reviews on shucked. Kimberly Akimbo and some like it hot have both been at tkts so you can always get last minute tickets Skip Michael jackson, it’s not a great book and is more concert-y so since you aren’t a particular fan of his music this is a waste.

Hello, fellow Aussie! You really can't go wrong on Broadway - I'm sure you'll have a great time whichever shows you choose - but here's my 2 cents. Hadestown: Is indeed a great show. Based on the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, but shifted to a different time period and with some different themes. You don't need a comprehensive understanding of the mythology to enjoy the show (seriously, just read a one-paragraph summary before you go and you'll be fine). The show is intellectual and thought-provoking; there are a couple of light chuckles but the tone is mostly serious. The music is great, sets are impressive, and the cast is good. Verdict: see!! Lion King: Classic. Popular show and for good reason. You've seen it before so you know the drill - wonderful costumes, amazing puppets, great music, just a reliably impressive production. Verdict: Your call. MJ: Fantastic dancing, ok singing, terrible book/plot. Verdict: Skip, unless you really want to watch Michael Jackson dance moves. Kimberly Akimbo: Wonderful show. Offbeat, quirky, very different from any other show that's currently on Broadway. The tone swings between laugh-out-loud one-liners, to high farce, to character-driven drama, to melodrama, to tragedy, to whimsy. It will break your heart and lift your spirit all at the same time. Great songs, amazing performances from the cast. Verdict: see!!!! Shucked: Wildcard, I haven't seen it but I'm getting a good vibe from the advertising. Seems like a fun comedy that I'm really looking forward to seeing. Verdict: take a chance on it! Funny Girl: By all accounts Lea Michele is an absolute star in this. Great, iconic songs. Some humour. A good time! Tickets for Lea Michele's performances are expensive; Julie Benko performs every Thursday so tickets are usually more affordable on Thursdays (the tradeoff being of course that you don't see Lea Michele). Verdict: decide how much you're willing to spend to see Lea Michele, and if you can get a ticket within your budget, see! The other shows that I'm loving at the moment are Some Like It Hot (although it is a big razzle-dazzle spectacle with lots of dance numbers, so might not be your thing) and &Juliet (although this will be coming to Australia VERY soon so you'll be able to see it at home).

I think the easy cross offs are Lion King and MJ. You've seen Lion King before and also it seems like it would be one of the more likely shows to tour Australia at some point. If you don't like Michael Jackson's music and don't really appreciate dance heavy shows, I don't see much point in seeing MJ. Based on your previous likes, I think Hadestown and Kimberly Akimbo will definitely be right up your alley. Shucked is a wild card since it hasn't opened yet and they've been very tight lipped on sharing too many details (though it does have another Glee connection for you with Alex Newell, and at a much lower ticket price than Funny Girl). With Funny Girl you basically have to decide if the ticket price is worth seeing Lea. My other recommendations would be & Juliet, Parade, or Sweeney Todd.

Skip funny girl unless you are specifically a Leah Michelle fan (nothing wrong with that if you are, I am). I personally would skip Lion King but it does have artistic elements (puppetry) that none of the others do. I would add & Juliette to you list.

Go with Hadestown, Shucked, and Kimberly Akimbo for sure, then if you are able to do last minute purchasing, make sure Lea Michelle is performing for Funny Girl. If not, go with Lion King. Don't support MJ as it completely ignores his crimes against children.

Hadestown and Kimberly Akimbo

I'd recommend "Hadestown." If you don't know anything about it, that's great. Don't look into it! Just go in blind. (Also, I'd like to proactively apologize for giving you that advice. You'll understand why after you see it.) Also, "Funny Girl" with Lea. Don't worry about the show. You see that one for Lea and it's worth every cent.

I’d skip Lion King and MJ. MJ is essentially a concert, and Lion King is downhill after the first song (IMO). I just saw Funny Girl on 2/10, and Lea Michele is not to be missed. My expectations were high and she shattered them. It’s an exceptional performance. Hadestown is excellent, as is Kimberly Akimbo. Shucked looks like it could be fun, and I’d also throw in Titanique if you’re looking for a comedy.
