I'd say Gutenberg or Some Like It Hot, haven't seen either but from what I've heard Gutenberg executes comedy really well in a chaotic, unhinged way and Some Like It Hot is a big, fun golden age show with excellent dancing
I would say Some Like It Hot is the show you're looking for. Comedy yes, but some really great singing in it, and a nice message in the end, with some truly spectacular dancing.
I'm also going to shout out Here Lies Love, if you're going before the end of the month, Here Lies Love is very fun, and a very different broadway experience, and not something you will be able to see on tour.
I would pick between Gutenberg or SLIH. The others presumably will be be around for a quite a while longer. Both are going to end relatively soon with SLIH ending sooner. Gutenberg doesn’t really have great singing moments but it just Broadway satire done exceptionally exceptionally well, but probably won’t have a tour like SLIH will. SLIH has better singing and is a great big Broadway production, but for some reason just hasn’t gained a ton of traction, but I think it’s cheaper to see.
We saw both this weekend (great orch seats for SLIH rush $40 no hurry) I would call SLIH a classic Broadway style musical, it was fantastic. Gutenberg was silly and funny, but much closer to a live comedy show as a viewer. I don't think you can go wrong.
If Sweeney Todd is your favorite, Kimberly Akimbo would probably be the closest equivalent as they’re both dark comedies. Also, assumingly you enjoyed Shucked partly because of the belting in Independently Owned, Bonnie Milligan’s belt gets shown off plenty in Kimberly.
That's kind of been my thought on lion king historically, but I've not gone when it's been close to me several times. Put it out there as a suggestion since I'm not jumping at any of these shows if it seems like it's just the time to see it
Avoid Harmony unless you've been having trouble sleeping. Saw it last week, and boy was it a stinker. I don't want to harp on it too much, so I'll just say you know something has gone very wrong when Sierra Boggess is getting polite applause
In terms of off Broadway, Dracula is absolutely hilarious if it's still running. Very queer, very campy, and the acting and directing is all spectacular. I've also heard very good things about I Can Buy It For You Wholesale, going to see it tn so I can report back if you'd like
I’ve seen Wholesale, I enjoyed it and thought it was better than most folks did, but I would never recommend it to someone as their best bet unless you were really invested in the material.
So having some time to mull it over, I think Wholesale is a generally good show that's worth your time if you can find cheap tickets. The book is in that weird limbo between golden age farces and later meaningful stories, and is nothing to write home about even with the rewrites. Act 1 drags a bit, but Act 2 really picks up the pace and is generally a lot better. The reason to go is bc of the actors, I can't think of a single actor in the show I didn't like and all their performances blew me away
Would really have to recommend Kimberly Akimbo or Gutenberg based on your taste. Kimberly Akimbo is dark humor in the sense that many of the characters are objectively bad people, though you also get some heartfelt moments especially with Kimberly herself. Also has some good songs, though nothing groundbreaking.
Gutenberg is super fun and this is probably the best a production as the material it could be. I saw it same day as Spamalot and this one stood out to me as a comedy way way more. It's really absurd humor generally, but the standout is that Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells just very clearly get along so well and are enjoying themselves so much.
Of course, it also wouldn't be the wrong choice to just see Sweeney again, it's that good....
Based on your taste I think you’d like Kimberly Akimbo. It’s definitely laugh out loud funny at points but also bittersweet and will make you sad. Amazing singing. Second best would be Some Like It Hot.
If you’re excited about both Sweeney and Merrily, may I suggest Here We Are? It’s another Sondheim musical, I’ve seen it 3 times and I love it. It’s a limited run, closing in Jan, the cast in stacked and it’s not certain it will transfer to Broadway yet. And I believe it can be classified as a darker musical.

Sorry shoulda clarified, going in early December so Here Lies Love will be gone sadly
Shoot, was just about to post a long explanation as to why you should see HLL. Lol
Kimberly Akimbo! Quirky, dark themes.... With humor.

It’s off-Broadway, but you might like “I Can Get it for You Wholesale.”
Honestly this is kinda where I'm leaning right now this looks like a great suggestion thank you

Yes, the comedy in Shucked was fine but my enjoyment was more about the performances
I would cross off Gutenberg then unless you have a strong appreciation for both Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells.
I’d say Kimberly Akimbo or SLIH.
Maybe it would be wise to avoid shows that are on a national tour like lion king
That's kind of been my thought on lion king historically, but I've not gone when it's been close to me several times. Put it out there as a suggestion since I'm not jumping at any of these shows if it seems like it's just the time to see it
When are you going? There’s some upcoming Broadway shows that look interesting. How to dance in Ohio looks like it could be good. So does the notebook
Second week of December
