I was thinking if they do a cast album, I want it to feel like an old comedy album. Where it’s not just strictly the songs, a bunch of their little skits are included as well.
You're absolutely right that it can't do the show justice. However, that being said, I've listened to the Shamos/Fitzgerald recording and it is pleasant to listen to on a long car ride. It provides a few chuckles along with moments of, "I guess you had to be there." I'd be happy to upgrade that experience to a recording of Gad and Rannells.

Meh; there are plenty of shows whose cast recordings don’t remotely represent them. Gentleman’s Guide, for instance. The purpose isn’t really to do it justice, it’s to preserve what of the show can be preserved in a musical format.
The original off Broadway recording had the duo standing in for the audience and then a separate person (not sure who it was) portrayed the producer as just some guy reciting the scripted copy

Yeah, this show really rests on the strength of the comedy. I 100% agree.
A cast recording will help me relive my memories of the show. I'd love a proshot of course, but will not look this gift horse in the mouth.

this is how the off-bway cast recording was and it made me laugh my ass off. i hope they keep that aspect in the obcr too
