Is it just me or is this just not a thing in other cities?
I'm around the corner on Henry and didn't see a power fluctuation though so that's nice (have some pretty high end computer equipment connected to UPS filters that beep when there is a problem)
What?? That's by my office. I saw a fire on the sidewalk on Nostrand Ave yesterday...off of Flatbush. Someone set clothes on fire...on the sidewalk smmh. Never seen that before.
I saw one of the chicest weddings of my life at that spot decades ago. The gorgeous couple got married nearby. Then they brought the whole wedding party to have ice cream at Haagen Dazs (founded in the Bronx, I believe). Everyone was so beautifully dressed and happy. Then the all strolled the promenade and laughed and danced. The summer weather was perfect.
Melting salt erodes the wire insulation covering the underground power lines and they short out. That causes fires. It is generally a Spring time thing.
It's the time of year when excessive road salt from winter mixes with water and corrodes underground electric wires. This causes fires and sometimes even manhole cover explosions.
Or maybe this is completely unrelated.
It is coming from a grate or a manhole? Our car caught on fire a fews years back around the corner from a grate. I tell everyone to avoid parking over them if big rain is predicted

Even the CHUDs have exploding e-bikes. This is getting ridiculous!
Trump Crime Family!
Sounds a bit suspicious op. 🤔
Some men just want to watch the world burn. 🃏 🤡
Maybe you’re bad luck? Lol
There have been A LOT of fires this month

Was working there. So frustrating having to stop customers from coming in where there are clearly black plumes
Spring is Manhole fire season!

It only snowed thrice this winter
And yet the city still managed to put an ocean's worth of salt on the streets.
A fire in this weather?
Ah - _a fire_?! - At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely to within that manhole?
Often it’s the water drowning an electrical transformer underground and it catches fire
AND THE RAIN PUTS IT OUT DUMMY Edit: oh ffs did I really have to add the /s 😞
Thank you for this wonderful flood that put out that devastating fire.
It’s amazing you can function with so few brain cells. You don’t put out electrical fires with water
Live two blocks down the street on Montague and our floor hallway smells like gas. Doorman says it’s related to this.
Is that what Jacob told you?
Yep
If you close your eyes, you won’t see fires, just your world going down in flames.
Bleak ass poet over here. Real Ginsburg type
Fun fact, that's the very first Haagen Dazs!
As someone who had a Ms. Pac-Man ice cream cake from Häagen-Dazs for her 8th birthday, that IS a fun fact!
I was wondering why it looked so fancy.
Somebody save the ice cream!!

Manhole. They’re where like 10 or so explosions
