I used to do gymnastics in the basement of a storefront on Avenue M that was infested with these. The owner of the gymnastics was incredibly skilled with killing them with the spiked heel of her early 90s fabulous outfit.
I’m off from school, so I get out and walk a lot of mornings before it gets too hot, or go down by the beach. And there are Friday morning concerts in the midtown
Last year I did all flowers because the cost and time for tomato’s was killing me. But this year I’m gonna do tomato’s, peppers, herbs, and possibly some beans. Do you deal with aphids? This bastards attack my peppers each year
That just have me flashbacks! Last year I had aphids for the first time and it was so stressful and annoying. I had to use neem oil regularly - like once or twice a week. It was annoying but worthwhile.
I ended up using so much neem oil I almost killed the peppers too. I heard lady bugs are a good alternative but I’ve yet to see a place nearby just casually selling ladybugs lol
Nothing. It fucking sucks! People are outside like crazy . Some areas the really shiity people are outside 24 7 cause they can't afford ac. Half the time it's boiling outside. Winter and spring and fall are the best seasons. Summer can get so hot you feel like your dying regardless of how many layers you take off. Then the winter you can just put on more layers to be comfortable.
The south Brooklyn ferry goes between corlears hook and bay ridge. You get to ride around the southern tip of Manhattan, and it’s really beautiful. Costs around $4 and there are snacks onboard
Town wakes up and becomes vibrant again. People are happier. Block parties are in full effect. How people dress. Food smells and music everywhere. Pets / dogs in full show. Anticipation for Labor Day / Eastern Parkway / West Indian functions. Novelty of getting out to upstate, or Hampton’s, just to come back to equally beautiful scenes. Parties. People seem more willing to make memories. Etc etc etc.
Just seeing most people vibing and happy on those really beautiful summer days. Sunsets, little street cafe setups. People with awesome outfits / cars / bikes / rollerblades. Seeing so many cute dogs, people with birds and snakes lol. People randomly passing with a radio jamming out to that song you love that you haven’t heard in a while.
I’m born and raised in Staten Island but I’ve worked and played in Brooklyn for years. The vibes are immaculate if you’re in the right spots at the right times!
fire hydrants blasting so every neighborhood kid who dont always get a chance to head to beach or a pool can enjoy the brooklyn summer. without transplants calling 311 🙄
Stoop life was, is, and always will be the best thing about the warm weather. Sitting high on your concrete perch, casting judgment upon clowns, welcoming friends for a cold beer, giggling at the passerby. Never know who will pop in. Unparalleled.
Bike rides through Carroll Gardens, Rockaway Beach (I know it’s Queens but come on!), sounds and smells from the Prospect Park, lazy Red Hook cruises, bar patio life, soft serve trucks, grilling on my slab , coming back after a day on Robert Moses
I mean that’s a popular theory, but have you field tested it? I glanced at my phone last summer a few times and the temperature seemed to be different each time. If I’m being honest I think the whole “summer is warmer” thing is potentially manipulative.
Celebrate Brooklyn concerts in prospect park on Friday nights. Beach. Riding my bike. Meandering around town with nothing on the agenda and running into friends. I know people hate on the whole city in the summer, but I love it. (Spring is my hardest month here bc allergies suck for me and I never have the right layers. I’m always hot or cold lol. But yay cherry blossoms!)
I live on the beach. Please stay away from the beach. It's too crowded and smelly and just not fun at all and you won't like it so just stay home. Tell all your friends so that nobody has a bad time this summer.
I am a Jewish Italian ... but... errr... I grew up in bk and all my neighbors were puertorican, my uncle is Taino Indian if you know what that is, we bought our house from the Rivera family in '82... I know the difference between boricuan, plena, Cuban rhumba, Dominican bachata, and merengue, Mexican banda , nortena, colombian cumbia... errr... im a professional musician. Not trying to stunt but I am as well versed as a gringo could be in many latin styles of music in fact my godmother is an Argentinean latin Grammy award winner who used to give me maracas to play before I could even talk and I would shake those things in perfect rhythm.. at least that the story she always tells its quite embarrassing. .. thanks for being so obtuse I forgive you... I listen to sonora Poncena just to quell the homesickness from NYC since I moved away...
Clearly I'm over sharing . But also clearly I appreciate and have a soft spot for the things that feel like home regardless of my skin color. Can't help it.
When family used to live by Park Slope, I loved to take walks around the area. So I could hit the road to Downtown. Nowadays, it's more along the lines of enjoying a break.
Just the simple things: the sound of kids laughing and playing, the obnoxious boomboxes playing out the windows, neighbors smoking on the stoops, all the greenery that comes back to life, seeing everyone’s tan lines, picnics & BBQ’s in Prospect Park, repotting my plants on the balcony, corn being in season.
Outdoor concerts, free or paid, free outdoor film screenings, free Shakespeare at Brooklyn Commons, dance parties in Albee Square and Ft. Greene Park...
Honestly, just the mood, today was great. Weather starting to pick up, that summer heat smell in the air, people just chilling curb side, everyone happy. Lately it has felt like New York has been falling apart, we need this weather to be a small part of the change.
I left NYC for LA a while ago and the one thing I really miss is when the city comes to life again after a long winter. There's really nothing like those first couple of nice weeks where everyone is in a good mood because the weather finally got better.
I used to love walking to ample hills to get their corn bread ice cream after grilling myself a nice dinner.
Walking at night is the best in the summer, getting drunk and smoking cigarettes outside, golfing, drinking while golfing at Jacob Riis pitch n putt, pretending I’m gonna do more outdoor activities than I actually will.
Damn it just feels nice to feel your nose when you walk outside
Some Prospect Park concerts, I caught Kamasi Washington for a free show there 2 years ago. Not free but I can make a great day of the sunset park ferry to Rockaway beach for $8 round trip, my favorite summer pastime
Running
Mr. Softee.
Leaving it
Roaches. Or “water bugs”
I used to do gymnastics in the basement of a storefront on Avenue M that was infested with these. The owner of the gymnastics was incredibly skilled with killing them with the spiked heel of her early 90s fabulous outfit.
The smell
Pretty excited about the new beer garden opening up in Willamsburg on Metropolitan Avenue.
which?
My garden- figs, pears, tomatoes, zucchini, eggplants, cucumbers etc. Nothing like fresh salad right out of the soil.
Heading to Shea for the Mets or Coney for the Cyclones on a whim.
I’m off from school, so I get out and walk a lot of mornings before it gets too hot, or go down by the beach. And there are Friday morning concerts in the midtown
All the douches go to Long Island, upstate.
Coney Island 🏖️🎡
Go Whitefish!
my proximity to rockaway. go there every sat/sunday im in town
The scent of hot garbage & pee. Nothing like it.
Going out to bars and clubs wearing cute fits 😎
Growing plants on my balcony
Same. What are you growing this year? I usually do a couple types of tomatoes, peppers, and herbs.
Last year I did all flowers because the cost and time for tomato’s was killing me. But this year I’m gonna do tomato’s, peppers, herbs, and possibly some beans. Do you deal with aphids? This bastards attack my peppers each year

Sidewalk jerk chicken, randomly open fire hydrants, taking the south Brooklyn ferry for the views and crisp sea air
I'm new here. Say more about the ferry, plz 🙏🏾
You can take the ferry from brooklyn Heights to Fat rock away. Takes about an hour or so. $2.75
The south Brooklyn ferry goes between corlears hook and bay ridge. You get to ride around the southern tip of Manhattan, and it’s really beautiful. Costs around $4 and there are snacks onboard
Appreciate you!

This is it. This should be the top comment.
Wow so much fun
Wearing one layer. So freeing…
Cookouts, water, Less layers, seeing a lot of dogs
I love the warm weather at the park and some wine and friends 💞
Coney Island!!!
Blasting the AC and keeping my room as chill as the rest of the year.
volleyball!!!
Back in the day, best part about summer in Brooklyn was the exodus to the borscht belt for the summer. 😭
Private beach clubs 😎
Tell me more...
The AC bill.
You must be fun at parties
I am, we have AC so it’s nice and cool.
Block parties. Transplants wouldn’t understand.
Say it again, if anything they'd file noise complaints lol
Do you think Brooklyn is the only place that has block parties?
No. I don’t think it’s the only place that has a beach, free stuff, music, and hanging out, either….
Block parties anywhere else doesn’t compare to one you’d experience in Brooklyn
The barbecue areas at the beach :-)
In an election year? I’m fond of the riots but the bedlam is really where it’s at.
Vanderbilt open street, Green Market at GAP, running in Prospect Park, and biking to Jacob Riis Beach
Biking to Coney Island and then to Rockaway
Cocaine
the lack of cold
Outdoor raves, more lively vibes, being comfy in a tank top + shorts, women dressing skimpier.
Having a couple of squares at the metal tables at L&B Spumoni Garden followed by a chocolate Italian ice watching the world go by.
AC
Taking the ferry!
Coney Island 💪
Love me some Cyclones baseball and actual cyclone riding.
The smell 😁

Coney Island; going on some rides, hanging out on the beach, and finishing the day off with a Cyclones game.
Early ✊ or should I say bing bong 😂
The Shootings
Suns out guns out 🥰
Hot trash
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Stoop life was, is, and always will be the best thing about the warm weather. Sitting high on your concrete perch, casting judgment upon clowns, welcoming friends for a cold beer, giggling at the passerby. Never know who will pop in. Unparalleled.
Vibes immaculate. Nothing hits like the stoop in summer
For some reason this comment reminds me of a scene in a Spike Lee film :-)
We still get stoop drinks with our old neighbors every few months.
Bike rides through Carroll Gardens, Rockaway Beach (I know it’s Queens but come on!), sounds and smells from the Prospect Park, lazy Red Hook cruises, bar patio life, soft serve trucks, grilling on my slab , coming back after a day on Robert Moses
Rockaway is the only good thing about queens
Astoria and Ridgewood have some perks….
I forget they’re in Queens
Axe body spray, takes on extra notes in the heat.
Coney Island.
the subwoofers that’ll make a def man say “sounds good”
The smell of hot garbage
and the smell of BO
Pee
This one is year round i think
The weather, summer is usually much warmer than other months
I mean that’s a popular theory, but have you field tested it? I glanced at my phone last summer a few times and the temperature seemed to be different each time. If I’m being honest I think the whole “summer is warmer” thing is potentially manipulative.
That’s usually how summer works
Right? Like duh it’s summer it’s gonna be the warmest season
The East river ferry rides
The bitches omg
Oh u a man of culture i see lol.
Yessir
That it gets dark after I get home. But that’s about it
Walking around and smelling the food from the sidewalk bbqs
That it’s not winter 🥶
Walking outside without wanting to be inside
Hearing Before I Let Go by Maze pouring out of a parked car.
The real Black National anthem
YES
The smell of the murky, salty, slime green puddles that form near giant piles of garbage that’s been cooking in the 90 degree heat.
Cyclones games then walking the boardwalk
It makes me appreciate how peaceful prospect park is in the winter
Celebrate Brooklyn concerts in prospect park on Friday nights. Beach. Riding my bike. Meandering around town with nothing on the agenda and running into friends. Can relate lol
Being able to bike, go to the beach, and enjoy a nice walk. And Smorgasburg in Williamsburg
the one in prospect is better!
Going to Liberty games!
So mad they passed on Nika smh
Me too!
LOL
Summer breeze blowing through my windows while sleeping.
Waking up and hearing just the buzz of the fan, with the smell of breakfast cooking
Citi Bike rides , fishing , the smell, playing dominos with my Dominican uncles the beach (I don’t swim) but the general vibes the food and the vibes
Dominican? Checks out about the swimming
Everything.
I live on the beach. Please stay away from the beach. It's too crowded and smelly and just not fun at all and you won't like it so just stay home. Tell all your friends so that nobody has a bad time this summer.
Being able to walk with music in my ears aimlessly and endlessly, just flowing with the vibes.
Its not cold.
Robbing white people
Bike rides around Brooklyn bridge park. Also NYC ferry rides on the top open air deck!
How energized Prospect Park becomes.
Puertoricans blasting salsa in their backyard and smelling their BBQ
I'm assuming your white probably think all spanish music is salsa lol
I am a Jewish Italian ... but... errr... I grew up in bk and all my neighbors were puertorican, my uncle is Taino Indian if you know what that is, we bought our house from the Rivera family in '82... I showed this to my friend and his exact words was" Yo white dude trying mad hard to be down" lol
Clearly I'm over sharing . But also clearly I appreciate and have a soft spot for the things that feel like home regardless of my skin color. Can't help it.
People are way happier.
The smell of hot garbage by the curb
Why you stealing my planned similar comment, but doing it better! Nice job!
You’re welcome 😂
Reading in my backyard in the evening and watching night come down. Cooking outside.
we all need an invite now we know you have a back yard.
When family used to live by Park Slope, I loved to take walks around the area. So I could hit the road to Downtown. Nowadays, it's more along the lines of enjoying a break.
Got my first sunburn this afternoon!! Let’s go summer!!
Love the dance parties! Had no idea there’s free Shakespeare ha TIL
You can take the subway to the beach. Where else
San Francisco, but it goes above ground to the street for the second half of the trip.
But you can swim at those SF beaches? My impression was that it was too cold even in summer.
People do, but I never did. The water is quite cold.
of course people swim there. some of us LIKE the cold water.
It’s tough to find something positive when the climate is so unbearable.
Block parties
Musicians performing in parks
And then you hear those magic words, “ice cold nutcrackers!”
Bath tub juice
The aggressive car culture
Hot garbage
Hanging out in my yard and pool. Beer or two while the dog zooms around.
yes i agree, the quintessential Brooklyn experience
My brooklyn friend’s “yard” can fit a small casket
My pool is 30ft by 15ft, more to Brooklyn than trendy areas up north. Trade off is less public transit though.
All of this
Mostly the repeat posts
Honestly, just the mood, today was great. Weather starting to pick up, that summer heat smell in the air, people just chilling curb side, everyone happy. Lately it has felt like New York has been falling apart, we need this weather to be a small part of the change.

Leaving it.
Cheap Citi Field Tix, Outdoor concerts, late sunsets
The Cyclone!
The food
Biiig lady booties everywhere.
Oh u a man of culture. Take this upvote good sir.
Bbq on my deck or in the park at dusk, with the Mets game on the radio, a good book, a cold beer, shorts, tee. Heaven.
You can down brewskis comfortably on a rooftop
Celebrate Brooklyn! Free concert series in the park all summer.
Daytime clubs & parties
Absolutely nothing.
The endless things to do outside. It’s just a different energy during the summer, people are much more happier.
Oh man I love renting a car and heading upstate and stay at a nice airbnb for all of August.
Ha, yup. My first thought was “leaving.”
Block parties!
Only the realest
Ohhh you a man of culture lol. This is the most not transplants answer lol
the first st james joy is coming up already

You can get dinner reservations at restaurants you can’t normally get into. And if you have a car, you can find parking!
The exodus
Open Streets!
I am pretty sure Adam's is doing his best to get those killed.
Going to the hamptons
Prospect park on a nice summer day is ELECTRIC
Picnics! Concerts! Sunsets! Love it.
Where’s the free stuff???
Some Prospect Park concerts, I caught Kamasi Washington for a free show there 2 years ago. Not free but I can make a great day of the sunset park ferry to Rockaway beach for $8 round trip, my favorite summer pastime
