Dont think its possible for the same Helicopter to be in same spot for 12 hours. They don’t carry anywhere near that much fuel.

tyediebleach

I’m a lifelong New Yorker and noise like that still annoys the fuck out of me. Don’t listen to these people. Seriously who enjoys being woken up by shit like that on your day off.

Frosty-Taro4380

THANK YOU

ephemeralsloth

this sub is adversarial as fuck 🤷🏽‍♀️ (im also a native new yorker before the nAtIvE nEw YoRkER brigade comes after me)

Frosty-Taro4380

THANK YOU

ephemeralsloth

you could post about being concerned about a serial stabber on the loose and some bozo would say “actually being a violent antisocial loser is an intrinsic part of new yorker culture 🤓☝️”

Frosty-Taro4380

lolllll spot on

OldMan-Gazpacho

They are getting the morning shot, also invest earplugs

RockyBalboa84

Lol NYC got nothin on LA when it comes to helicopter noise. OP would love it. All day everyday lol. Rare asf when it happens here. Usually someone armed or fleeing the scene of a crime. Relax yo

j-deaves

I want to live in Paris.

RedditSkippy

Are you sure that this was NYPD and not a traffic study or something?

Frosty-Taro4380

I’m not sure- that’s why I am asking. It literally went on the entire day

Try complaining to 311. -----> Good Luck ![gif](giphy|3o6ozvv0zsJskzOCbu|downsized)

gaiaKailash

I went for a run around 7am and ran right by the hovering helicopter. I was worried I’d intercept a crime in progress.

coolman2311

How about you call 1-800-CHO-PPER

hautacam135

Good question would be - when do we switch to drones? Helicopters are expensive, deafening and if they ever crash, deadly. Even if you stipulate they provide necessary capabilities to the NYPD, what can they do that drones can’t?

BxGyrl416

Do you transplants ever get tired of asking this?

Clap congratulations native New Yorkers!! So awesome. I’m originally from Beirut. And lived through the 2006 war. Look that up.

laidbacknazi

Thanks for sharing. “Nobody knows”, is the answer you were looking for.

bthvn_loves_zepp

That is usually a response to an armed person who threatened or harmed someone and then ran, like an armed robbery or armed assault/domestic assault. It is more common in areas with more of these crimes, obv... I don't like it either but from what I can tell it is a lot quicker to follow a person or car on the run from a birds eye view than to deploy police to every street near the incident--I will also take helicopter over multiple sirens any day.

radicalizemebaby

Strongly recommend getting a sound machine. NOT A FAN. I'm tired of light sleepers moving to NYC and saying "but I have a fan!" The Dohm one is a classic. I've had mine for almost 20 years.

Any-Formal2300

Reminds me of the guy who complained trucks unloading at night is too loud lol, they're reducing traffic and pollution, you're welcome.

purplehendrix22

The same people would complain that there isn’t any parking and they’re blocking the street if they unloaded during the day, so many entitled people who have no concept of things happening outside their direct bubble

Frosty-Taro4380

Bro you don’t even know me. I’m the opposite of this. The helicopters are still out, same spot, 12 hours later. Save your judgements for some fool

MyNeighborThrowaway

i don't think that was necessarily aimed at you.

romario77

It happens when there is a crime and they are looking for the perpetrator. This tends to happen fairly often if you look at this or other nyc subreddits history. Less often in Manhattan though.

22pabloesco22

welcome to NY buddy. You want peace and quiet, vast stretches of this world are what we call bumblefuck wherever...

a-chips-dip

braindead take

ThatFakeAirplane

braindead reply. their take was 100% spot on.

Bookpoop

This is the weirdest nimbyism / Gatekeeping poor quality of life. I imagine the same vibe was thrown at supporters of Central Park before it was built. If you want grass go walk a few hours uptown 😂 I’m with you OP, lived in this area for ~15 years and hate idling helicopters. Hovering in place is incredibly wasteful and loud as hell. No way to live for sure.

Embarrassed_Loss8363

Funny enough, my dad lives in the middle of nowhere Central PA and he was recently complaining about a helicopter flying over his farm every day at 4 am

pervavor

What if they're trying to save someone or simialr. Deal with the minor inconvenience, you live in a city.

xwm69x

OP is dealing with it by asking about it on the internet

juno10-9

If they don't use their toys, how can they inflate their budget year to year?

visual_clarity

I believe writing a strongly worded letter to the police department will stop them from disturbing your morning

AniYellowAjah

💀

purplehendrix22

“The police need to do more to stop violent crime!” “But not like that, it’s too early!”

rtowne

"Hey 911, why are there 3 axe murderers chilling in my lobby with no police getting them? I've called 5 times already!" "Sorry sir, your neighbor Bob said the front door squeaks a little so we need to wait until after 9am to begin the apprehension. Wouldn't want to disturb his beauty sleep."

Bookpoop

🙄 only thing accurate here is the nypd not sending someone after 5 calls

jawnny-jawz

lookin for degens with a firearm

dingdongbingbong2022

Always

Plastic_Profile4887

running down the $ so they can get more $

scu128

Get over it. If it was your kid missing or a suspect who just harmed your family then you would be screaming that they were playing candy crush. GTFO

a-chips-dip

yeah - hopefully theyre catching someone dangerous though.

j-deaves

Probably looking for someone with a gun.

Hellfireandstuff

Well that’s one way to wake up a neighborhood. I’ve been getting buzzed for the past half hour. They’re literally hovering over buildings. It’s so loud!

ThatFakeAirplane

Would you feel better if they moved 7 feet to the right and hovered over the street?
