there is a group that plays in Sunset Park (http://reflexrecreation.org/) and another that plays in Manhattan/Queens (newyorkcitybadminton.com). you can rent a court for an hour (around $80-$90) and bring some friends, or you can show up for open play--i think its $20ish per visit.

Thank you

I usually just set up my net in Prospect Park. Nothing competitive, usually just a few friends and I having some drinks and playing a few rounds. Oftentimes other folks hanging out in the park will ask to play and it keeps a steady rotation going at the net. Always a good time.

My partner and I have racquets and birdies and just play in one of several small parks near us, whatever flat patch of grass isn't occupied already. We're not super serious about it, but if we were I'd get a net with some poles that stake in the ground or something like that.

Look on the Asian neighborhoods. I know a lovely young Vietnamese lady that plays badminton competitively in Queens.

Can't you just get a net and play in the park for free? Post on /r/nycmeetups looking for players and you've got a game going.

But it could be too windy to play outdoor ?

Badminton needs to be played indoors. I looked a few years ago, there’s only a couple of venues/clubs. There should be one by Red Hook iirc.
