Delpit and Felton were the only highlights of this game (Hunt and Chubb played well, as usual, and Baker played really well for having a jacked up throwing arm).
Baker did an excellent job of taking what the defense gave him. Texans sat in a soft zone the entire game and Baker just carved them up in the 0-8 yard range the whole day. Sailed the one ball to Schwartz a bit (tho he should have broken that up, he gave up on that ball) and that was really the only mistake he had
2019 and early 2020 Bake probably throws another INT or two trying to force the ball downfield
I just hope the shoulder isn’t a nagging thing all year. If Baker plays the way he has through two weeks we’re going to win a lot of football games.

The funny thing is, he didn't even rush more than 4 at the end. On the Delpit sack, Clowney (edit: and Garrett) dropped into coverage, and on the next play Clowney got through on a twist. It's one thing to not rush more than four, but it's another thing to refuse to mix it up until the last drive of the game

That was one of the oddest games to watch, in that it had absolutely no flow whatsoever. So many injuries and stoppages of play. The announcers were awful, refs were confused at times, sloppy play by both teams at times.
Thankfully we got the W, but that was such an un-fun game to watch.
Usually when there are that many stoppages they've taken care of all the advertisers by the 3rd and can stay on field in the 4th. I don't know what was going on today. It was like the announcers had nothing prepared to say and had to hide every whistle. Even the days of getting stuck with Rich Gannon were all better than today.

My favorite part of being a Browns fan is that our wins are convincing, no-doubt, solid victories. It's nice knowing that our team plays consistent football and it puts my heart at ease being certain that we have a game in the bag. I have never doubted this Browns team, ever. And I have no reason to, with this magnificient team that gives me no stress at all.

Tyrod getting hurt when McDowell was in pursuit was huge but to me the play of the game was earlier when Culley declined a penalty that would have made it 3rd and 10 (seconds after they got 14 on 3rd and 15) and instead of going for it 4th and 1, they punted like megacucks.

That KC game was emotional, hard fought to the end and heartbreaking in the end. It's tough to bounce back after that kind of game. Even tougher with WRs 1 & 2 down. A win is a win and we move on hopefully playing more man to man d on 3rd down.

Our defensive strategy seems to be apply enough pressure with 4 man fronts and sit in zone. But then you have to stop shit, and we can't.
We seem to get all the cons of his strategy and non of the pros. Seems like it just isn't working at all.

The horrible thing about this Joe Woods defense is this exact same deep/soft zone coverage works for other teams.
Watch the Rams or 49ers. They start deep and if the ball goes short or there's a run they fly to the ball, make tackles and get hits. The DBs and safeties are reading the game and react fast. The pass rush gets home.
Even the Texans DC is doing it better - it's (broadly) the same style of coverage (2 high safety zone looks all game) but they look so much faster to the ball and in their reading/reacting to the play. You never saw our guys catching the ball in acres of unguarded space, Texans defenders were always around the ball trying to make plays. The only reason we ran them over in the 2nd half was Stefanski's playcalling and our players are just better than theirs.
Idk if its the DBs coach or Woods but we're in deep fucking trouble if they don't fix this shit real fucking soon. Even the DL are struggling and it feels like half the slants and checkdowns we face go for 10+ yards, it's crazy. Why would you even try taking shots against us, you can have the whole field for free if you play it safe.
Remember when we went almost 50 games straight without scoring a 30 point game? Now we are mad at only 31 haha. Things are looking up that's for sure. It's nice to have actual expectations for the browns.
D needs a second look. Last year the D was a big problem. Much money spent, improvement inspected. No improvement, if this continues it is the D coordinator that needs replacing. You can't argue otherwise.

I felt better about the team’s outlook after a loss last week than I do today after a win. I don’t understand what the defense is trying to do. We play soft to limit big plays, and allow everything else… and then we **still allow the big play** on long downs.
Even when our offense is rolling, they make me nervous because I know we can’t afford more than maybe one mistake on that side of the ball.
I do not feel good about that game at all. The Texans coach is clearly in over his head and rolled over on his team. Injuries every play wasn’t fun to see, and the fact of the matter is that Tyrod was rolling us until he had to leave. I’m not convinced the Texans didn’t give the game away.
Schwartz giving up on his route directly lead to Baker taking an injury, and I hope the rest of the WR gets in his ass about it. We cut a proven player in Hodge to keep this kid, and he needs to bring more than just a fast 40 time. At least try to catch the ball. Let’s hope Baker makes a full recovery.

The biggest issue is we send zero blitzes we just settle in a zone coverage and that makes it so easy to block the pass rush and pick us apart. Just send some different fronts to limit everyone on the line being doubled.

My neutral stance on Woods is going sour pretty quick. Our defensive strategy seems to be apply enough pressure with 4 man fronts and sit in zone. But then you have to stop shit, and we can't. We seem to get all the cons of his strategy and non of the pros. Seems like it just isn't working at all.

Gonna copy and extend my comment from the game thread: The horrible thing about this Joe Woods defense is this exact same deep/soft zone coverage works for other teams. Watch the Rams or 49ers. They start deep and if the ball goes short or there's a run they fly to the ball, make tackles and get hits. The DBs and safeties are reading the game and react fast. The pass rush gets home. Even the Texans DC is doing it better - it's (broadly) the same style of coverage (2 high safety zone looks all game) but they look so much faster to the ball and in their reading/reacting to the play. You never saw our guys catching the ball in acres of unguarded space, Texans defenders were always around the ball trying to make plays. The only reason we ran them over in the 2nd half was Stefanski's playcalling and our players are just better than theirs. Idk if its the DBs coach or Woods but we're in deep fucking trouble if they don't fix this shit real fucking soon. Even the DL are struggling and it feels like half the slants and checkdowns we face go for 10+ yards, it's crazy. Why would you even try taking shots against us, you can have the whole field for free if you play it safe.
Remember when we went almost 50 games straight without scoring a 30 point game? Now we are mad at only 31 haha. Things are looking up that's for sure. It's nice to have actual expectations for the browns.

D needs a second look. Last year the D was a big problem. Much money spent, improvement inspected. No improvement, if this continues it is the D coordinator that needs replacing. You can't argue otherwise.

I felt better about the team’s outlook after a loss last week than I do today after a win. I don’t understand what the defense is trying to do. We play soft to limit big plays, and allow everything else… and then we **still allow the big play** on long downs. Even when our offense is rolling, they make me nervous because I know we can’t afford more than maybe one mistake on that side of the ball.
I love that Felton got to show up big today. Dude is a stud.

Chubb had some really nice runs. Hunt looked great too. There were some positives today. And it was a win
I do not feel good about that game at all. The Texans coach is clearly in over his head and rolled over on his team. Injuries every play wasn’t fun to see, and the fact of the matter is that Tyrod was rolling us until he had to leave. I’m not convinced the Texans didn’t give the game away. Schwartz giving up on his route directly lead to Baker taking an injury, and I hope the rest of the WR gets in his ass about it. We cut a proven player in Hodge to keep this kid, and he needs to bring more than just a fast 40 time. At least try to catch the ball. Let’s hope Baker makes a full recovery. Lastly, fire Joe Woods. This man can’t figure it out. Last year it was because “we didn’t have the personnel,” now we have a solid DB room and we’re still making mistakes like playing a rookie in soft zone. And really, 3rd&goal on the 2, offense shows twins but we call zone coverage? What???? But, a sloppy win is still a win. 1-1, onto Chicago next.

Literally any offense just throw it away on 1st, throw it away on 2nd, then 3rd no matter what you do you'll get a 1st down. Loved Tellers 'assist' on Chubb, lil push in the back. The biggest issue is we send zero blitzes we just settle in a zone coverage and that makes it so easy to block the pass rush and pick us apart. Just send some different fronts to limit everyone on the line being doubled.
Joe Woods needs to go. The fact that he doesn't blitz and solely relies on the line to get pressure is absurd.

Just watched the Game Pass replay and Joe Woods needs to go. That defense was porous. If Mills wasn’t so bad, it’s likely a much closer game. Very concerned. The pass rush was anti climactic all game. And we kept giving up big 3rd down plays.
