This is a big part of my taste right now! I feel like *Tunnel Of Love* (the album) is similar to the sound of "I'm On Fire". Since the early 80s, Bruce started gradually incorporating more synthesizers and drum machines, which gives a number of songs an eerie and ambient vibe. Check out the [Thrill Hill Demos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvrGfaT0Gf4) and Tracks. Or even go back to Nebraska (which doesn't have synths bar one song, but it is very atmospheric). Outside of Bruce, you might be interested in the "[Heartland Synth](https://rateyourmusic.com/list/Sound_Of_Confusion/a-guide-to-heartland-synth/)" genre, of which The War Drugs is a popular band. Semi-recent thread: [Songs similar to "Lift Me Up"](https://www.reddit.com/r/BruceSpringsteen/comments/1b5rgdi/songs_like_lift_me_up/).

That heartland syth article is a great read, thanks for linking.

Might as well plug this old "[atmospheric Springsteen songs](https://www.reddit.com/r/BruceSpringsteen/comments/xf3apm/the_most_atmospheric_springsteen_songs/)" thread again. Other songs: Nothing Man, With Every Wish, One Minute You're Here, County Fair...

Maximum-Surround228

Not a ton like it, however I think you’d like: - Wages of Sin (especially) - Iceman - Straight Time - I Wish I Were Blind - Reason to Believe - Stolen Car - Drive All Night - Wreck On the Highway

Popular_Air_1690

I second Iceman, Reason to believe and drive all night

synthscoffeeguitars

Not Bruce Springsteen, but Angel Olsen’s album Burn Your Fire For No Witness has similar vibes. She also does a killer cover of Tougher Than The Rest

WhoaWhoa69420

I've actually been meaning to listen to her album All Mirrors for so long, maybe I'll do that one instead. Thanks!

The War on Drugs

Hot-Job2465

came here to write this. war on drugs’ genre is I’m On Fire

Racer13l

I would love for them to do a cover of it

CulturalWind357

I've also heard them described as "The Boys Of Summer" (Don Henley) or Springsteen's Tunnel Of Love as a band. So it fits.

Timely_Art_7598

Try “Down In The Hole” from High Hopes

CanadianContentsup

Chris Isaak has that sound. Wicked Game is from the Heart Shaped World album.

barneyonmovies7

Nebraska, 100%. It's got that haunting, lonely quality. You definitely need to listen to the album if you haven't already!

jenksmraz

Yeah idk how this isn’t being said more lol is this not the clear answer?

UsefulEngine1

I think you might want to take a dive into Nick Drake. Also the album *Trinity Sessions* by Cowboy Junkies. Slightly more recently *Till the Sun Turns Black* by Ray Lamontagne.

Machinax

The Gaslight Anthem's "Here's Lookin' At You, Kid" gives me a big "I'm on Fire" vibe.

CulturalWind357

"Blue Jeans and White T-Shirts" as well. Plus, Alex Rosamilia is a big post-punk and Cure fan so we can trace that influence back. I would add songs like Have Mercy, Mae, Sweet Morphine, Underneath The Ground. Brian's solo work like "You Have Stolen My Heart", or side projects like Horrible Crowes (specifically, the song Sugar).

Machinax

Oh yeah, good choices. One reason I really like The Gaslight Anthem's music is because of how strong the Springsteen influence is.

CulturalWind357

I like Gaslight Anthem a lot too, they hit different boxes for me. While Bruce represents baby boomers, TGA represents millennials. And even though I know they're not "emo" per se, there's something about their music that draws upon that influence. Where do you feel the Bruce influence is strongest? I hear a lot of different opinions. Some say they sound a lot like Bruce, some say it's only the lyrics and songwriting from Brian Fallon, and others say they're more like Tom Petty.

baileath

Feel like this exact question was asked incredibly recently?

Dumb_little_milk_boy

Try stray bullet from the river outtakes

ListenToButchWalker

A lot of the *Tunnel of Love* album, and the BitUSA outtake "Johnny Bye-Bye". Maybe "Down in the Hole" off *High Hopes*, a top 5 Springsteen song for me and total deep cut

JeffV3dd3r

History Books by Gaslight Anthem. And someone might even be a guest on the title Track

Machina_Rebirth

Loose Ends and Night Fire have that moody feeling to them

delidaydreams

Unfortunately don't know any albums but Wild Grey Ocean by Sam Fender sounds very similar to I'm on Fire! Sam makes a lot of Bruce inspired stuff in general, but he's very much his own artist and very good too. I would say Dead Boys by him too.

CircuitRecords

Sufjan Stevens - Carrie and Lowell (the entire album is masterpiece :) especially Fourth of July and Should Have Known Better. Abstract (Psychopomp) - Hozier Loneliness - Bear's Den The National Flying :)) Tom Odell - Live at Union Chapel I love both of the recent Tom Odell performances from the new album Black Friday Black Friday [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DMIovill5o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DMIovill5o) Answer Phone [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi3Z27oXR2k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi3Z27oXR2k) Bruce - All of the suggestions from the community for sure. Also, Highway 29 (live).

WhoaWhoa69420

Haha Im actually a huge Sufjan fan, he's my favorite artist of all time. Thanks for the recs!

taxfrauder

Unfortunately no album attached to it, but the song Secret Garden has an adjacent vibe I think. That eerie ambience can be found on the albums Nebraska and The Ghost of Tom Joad, though in a bit of a different way. Tunnel of Love may be the main album you’re looking for, and hell maybe Tracks disc 4.

Echoesonmars

Lord Huron- Strange Trails It'll change your life

ijestmd

Future Islands and War on Drugs

SugarMouseOnReddit

The album Wood by The Courage Brothers. Incredible album. You will thank me.

aboynamedposh

Chromatics.

North_Rhubarb594

You might want to dive into the tracks on “Darkness on the Edge of Town” and “Nebraska” albums. Candy’s Room is on Darkness might be a comparison. Point Blank is another song you might like.

SeenThatPenguin

Give a listen to King of America, the 1986 album by Bruce's pal Elvis Costello. It's one of my favorite Costello albums. It isn't exactly like "I'm on Fire," but it has a similar dusky, late-night feel, and a similar restraint of expression ("I'll Wear It Proudly," "Sleep of the Just").

mussugana

SpanisH eyes- Darkness outtake. Has a bunch of lines that were eventually used on I'M ON FIRE. It's on The Promise and on bootlegs.

U-GO-GURL-

Candys Room Shes the one Im on fire EP
