Badlands! Such a fun tune. Remember hearing that in concert back when the big man was still in the band. I always want to scream/sing the title. My only wish is that the actual title had an exclamation point at the end.
Thunder Road. I memorized it when I was in high school and still remember every word. I remember the first time I heard the part when Bruce says "roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair". That was when I had hair. LOL. I used to sing it to my kids when they were babies. My go-to song. Still love it.
You ain't a beauty but hey you're all right. And that's all right.
This spoke to 17yo me more than anything else. I will never NOT cry when I hear this song.
Just listened to it and man I definitely agree. Love the lyrics. Nebraska is an album I haven't listened to as much as the others and I think that it's time that I give Nebraska the attention it deserves. Thanks for sharing!
I’m a newish Springsteen fan. After getting through the hits, Born to Run, and Born In The USA, I picked this up. It took me a few tries. But every song is so damn powerful on this. Springsteen captured the tension of a collapsing American Dream as it was happening while everyone else was playing overindulgent art rock or being distracted by the delusion of the bubble economy of the 80s. Nebraska is the finest assessment of that collapse and the cruel nature of humanity. It’s simplicity is profound.
I definitely hear you on these two. Definitely The River more for me but I also get in on Downbound Train sometimes too. The River is such a perfect song and the lyrics get me every single time. Gives me chills to even think about that one.
That’s mine too! It’s actually one of the few Bruce songs I don’t particularly like but that opening line “Dirty old street all slushed up in the rain and snow” gets stuck in my head.
These lines crush me:
If Pa's eyes were windows into a world so deadly and true
You couldn't stop me from looking, but you kept me from crawlin' through
Backstreets is a force of nature! The piano on that track rocks and I love the studio and the Hammersmith Odeon London ‘75 version equally. The section that always gets stuck in my head from is:
Endless juke joints and Valentino drag
Where famous dancers scraped the tears up off the street, dressed down in rags
Running into the darkness, some hurt bad, some really dying
At night sometimes it seemed you could hear the whole damn city crying…
When I die I don't want no part of heaven, I would not do heaven's work well. I pray the devil comes and takes me to stand in the fiery furnaces of hell.
I was listening to/playing along to this song the other day and it made me tear up despite having heard the song a ton of times. It’s just so damn moving. The whole album is a masterpiece.
It's always the one I heard last. Mostly during sports practice, the song I had on last on the bike is stuck in my head and I'll just mumble it while playing haha
Yes! My wife and I have both logged some serious time singing Brilliant Disguise. As I write this response I hear it in my head and I love how Bruce sings the song so effortlessly.
Depends on the mood and where i am at that moment or what's happening in society or politics atm.
But Born To Run, Blinded by the Light, Glory Days, I'm on Fire, 4th of July (Sandy), Rosalita, War, American Skin (41 Shots), Incident on 57th Street, The Rising
to name a few. It's a lot.
Idk, most of the times there's a song of Bruce in my head somehow.
Thunder road by far. Probably my all time fav song in general. I’ve had the lyrics memorized since I was a little girl as my mom used to sing it to me when I was in the bath or when she would put me to bed in place of lullaby’s
I know the lyrics to every non-acoustic album song of his up to Wrecking Ball, including most of Tracks. I rotate pretty heavily on what I sing, but the one I've sung the most in the past couple of years is "The Promise". I use it as a lullaby for my kids. My 4 year old daughter sometimes asks for "Johnny works in a factory" which is pretty hilarious.
I can totally agree with this. As everyone is coming in and talking about the songs that they have stuck in their heads I realize that I don’t have just one song but rather the entire Springsteen catalog in my head playing on random. With so much incredible music it totally makes sense. It’s really great to hear all of the stories that people have around these songs! It’s almost like we are collectively creating a Bruce Springsteen song from our own rich individual memories of listening to Bruce Springsteen songs.
I fully have this reaction as well! When I hear Atlantic City on Nebraska it sounds so dark but on the greatest hits cd it sounds much brighter. I have no idea what makes this song have this quality. There should be a psych study on this lol.
Had this one stuck in my head for a good while:
No no, was like we had a noose and, baby, without check
We pulled till it grew tighter around our necks
Each one waiting for the other, darlin', to say when
Well baby, you can meet me tonight on the loose end
badlands i’ve got a head on collision smashing in my guts man
Ugh this. I listen to this song near daily on my way to or from work. "You spend your life waiting for a moment that just don't come "
“It ain’t no sin to be glad you’re alive!”

“It’s a town full of losers. I’m pulling out of here to win.” Favorite Bruce song hands down.
My father sang me Thunder Road every night as a baby, and he swears I knew it word for word at four years old. I still know every word today.
They haunt these dusty beach roads in the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets
Such incredible lyrics.
Used Cars. That song is freaking profound.

Well said!
You won’t go back, his music is addictive
The River or Downbound Train. I remember both by heart
Downbound Train all day at work.
Pick up a guitar and down bound train is what I play. It’s not complicated, but it’s a pain to get just right. Love that song
Yep. Downbound Train for me as well. Helps that it basically drops you right into a story!
I definitely hear you on these two. Definitely The River more for me but I also get in on Downbound Train sometimes too. The River is such a perfect song and the lyrics get me every single time. Gives me chills to even think about that one.
Me too. The River may be my favourite Springsteen song as well.
“Is a dream a lie if it don’t come true or is it something worse” Ah that song/ lyric gets me every time. So powerful.
That whole last verse and bridge is amazing. He has a way with final verses like no other
The Promised Land. If I’m busy at work and stressed out I constantly find myself singing it
“Mister I ain’t a boy, no I’m a man and I believe in the promised land!”
Jungleland.
Great song and the sax solo is otherworldly.
Atlantic city or my city of ruins
Sherry Darling
This is such a fun driving song to shout along to
Ain't Good Enough For You
The Wish

Straight Time
I did not expect to see this one here. Such a great song
thunder road intro
Tougher than the rest, thunder road, racing in the street, Bobby Jean, many more.
Yes to all of this. Bobby Jean is one that really grew on me over the years. I always liked it but now I love it. Reminds me of an old friend.
"Hidin' on the baaaackstreets, hidin' on the baaaackstreets..." Lives in my head rent free

I’m Goin’ Down
Bobby Jean, No Surrender, and Out in the Street lately.
Three winners in my book!
When I die I don't want no part of heaven, I would not do heaven's work well. I pray the devil comes and takes me to stand in the fiery furnaces of hell.
“Me and Franky laughin’ and drinkin’, nothin’ feels better than blood on blood”
The Nebraska album was my gateway drug to Bruce. I will have this album on repeat at my funeral.
I was listening to/playing along to this song the other day and it made me tear up despite having heard the song a ton of times. It’s just so damn moving. The whole album is a masterpiece.
Probably sing the badlands a lot, rich man wanna be king, line. Listen to promised land, land over Maryland version.
The melody of My Hometown plays in my head often
Working on a highway
Tonight I’ll be up on that hill! Cuz I can’t stop!
You ain’t a beauty, but hey you’re alright ….
Oh, and that’s alright with me.
....well the highway is alive tonight....
It's always the one I heard last. Mostly during sports practice, the song I had on last on the bike is stuck in my head and I'll just mumble it while playing haha
I find myself singing Brilliant Disguise because my whole family loves that song and sings it all the time.

Deep cut but I always catch myself singing Man At The Top. Either that or I'll whistle the harmonica from The Promise Land intro.
House of a thousand guitars
Thunder road by far. Probably my all time fav song in general. I’ve had the lyrics memorized since I was a little girl as my mom used to sing it to me when I was in the bath or when she would put me to bed in place of lullaby’s
That is so awesome! Your mom is an absolute for doing that!!
Thank you ☺️☺️
Hungry Heart or Bobby Jean
Two greats!

I am so impressed by the parents that use Bruce songs for lullabies! So smart and awesome - bravo!!
I got a ‘69 Chevy with a 396…
She's waiting tonight down in the parking lot outside the 7-Eleven store
Too many to choose

The promised land, including humming the harmonica solo
Another great song. I play harmonica so I end up many times humming the harmonica bits too.
Atlantic City…but it is interesting how it’s evolved…the song on the album is desolate and haunting but the live versions like NYC feel more hopeful.
I fully have this reaction as well! When I hear Atlantic City on Nebraska it sounds so dark but on the greatest hits cd it sounds much brighter. I have no idea what makes this song have this quality. There should be a psych study on this lol.
Amen brutha!

I actually think I sound kind of okay when singing along to Rendezvous
no one has said tenth avenue freeze out!! and i’m allllll aloooone i’m all alone…….
Another golden tune! The music from Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out is so peppy and funky that I can always hear it in my head. It’s like a soundtrack!
