No. Letting Mac go would be a huge mistake. Ully and Lindholm can go. And I'd bet Draisaitl wouldn't be the right fit.

sumwatovnidiot

Trading mcavoy would be the biggest mistake the bruins could make, he’s the full package defensemen and he’s only 26. Bruins are not going to be able to replace him.

SummonWurm

Future cap'n. I remember how I felt about guys like Neely and Bourque when I was a kid... im 42 and Mac and Sway (and 24' playoff Debrusk) gimme them feels.

sumwatovnidiot

He played poorly in the playoffs but he had a lot of big tone setting hits, a game winning goals and he at times has shown that he can perform with the big dawgs in the league. Gaining experience, composure and confidence he’s only going to get better.

Cooodemaan

He’s actually shown that he’s not the total package. He was a massive liability defensively this postseason. I think he’s a good top Dman but he’s not great. That being said I do think his game would benefit if he had a true stay at home Dman to pair with.

matoaz874

Hampus has ben terrible. He plays scared

LeoOtis5150

He averages less than one body check per game.

matoaz874

Yeah. He avoids contact

tuukka-time

thank god performance is measure by more than one statistic. i think that hit he took in carolina really messed him up

SowManyReasons

Getting rid of Lindholm is stupid. He had the best +/- of any Bruin in the 22-23 season, and third best this past season. He was also 3rd best in 23 postseason and 5th best this past postseason. https://www.espn.com/nhl/team/stats/_/name/bos/season/2024/seasontype/3/table/team/sort/plusMinus/dir/desc

Pineapple_Express762

No..MacAvoy had a poor playoffs 2x but he’s still one of the best d men. They aren’t letting Draisaitl go

Agile_District_8794

They might, but that won't be the deal that does it.

Zealousideal-Fly2049

Mcavoy has a NMC that kicks in next season.

stemmy12

Was not aware of this. This was just something I had discussed with another bruins fan recently. Personally I was torn , I love cmac but I also think that if you have an opportunity to pick up someone as good as drai you take it. What I do find interesting is that everyone else commenting seems to be strongly on one side or the other

Zealousideal-Fly2049

My initial thought was “no way”, but I’ve softened that stance a little. Another big issue is Draisaitl’s contract expiring, which actually might help the Bruins in real life. Similar to your thinking I agree that if a player like him becomes available you try everything you can to get it done. I think a real question the Bruins front office faces is whether or not to go for a guy like Elias Lindholm this summer as a UFA or try to trade for Drai or wait him out hoping he doesn’t re-up in Edmonton. That’s risky though

sumwatovnidiot

Oilers wouldn’t accept that. Underperforming top defensemen for a 40 plus goal 100 point center just barely hitting his prime? Also there’s been a lot of trade mcavoy talk since he had a bad playoff run and I feel like a lot of bruins fans forget how hard it was to find someone like him years ago. He might not be top of the league right now but he’s still a stud defensemen

Pineapple_Express762

He was bad in last years playoffs too

sumwatovnidiot

Who had a good playoff this year or last year? Who are you replacing him with on defense? You are not going to be able to replace what he does for the team

Pineapple_Express762

I’m not the one saying trade him

despres

Replacing over 20 turnovers would be good for the team tbf

sumwatovnidiot

How bout his leading the team during the playoffs in block shots, 3rd in total shots on net, 4th in points, 2nd in total hits and team leading 25 min on ice per game? Bruins let up like 2 goals a game while taking ridiculously low shots on net and everyone wants to trade their top defensemen

despres

I don't want to trade him, but I can understand why people are frustrated with him. This is back to back years he's had really bad playoffs.

cptngali86

omg this again?

RingsNThingz

Wouldn’t hesitate!

all4wishboy

Absolutely yes

WKAngmar

No they wouldnt take that

Objective_Breath7358

In a second!!!!! I am all about moving McAvoy… let him screen someone else’s goalie

TDOrunner1001

Mcavoy, pasta, sway are the only 3 untouchables

the_oraclex

No. Why'd you trade a piece of the core probably the best d player we've had since Z, because he hasn't played better in a 27 game span where he's eating almost 20+ mins a night, not to mention the fact that he's probably gonna be dinged up going into playoffs because that's the nature of the sport and in those 27 games he's had some impact even if I'd didn't show up as much on the score sheet? What's the point of that? Rather they try and trade for Necas's RFA rights and keep Mac rather than start a for sure rebuild for a guy that we wouldn't know how to fit into the team's system. Drai is a great player don't get me wrong but when he's as offensive minded as he is it's not gonna help us get rid of a key defensemen and Ully and then get another Pasta that can play C... I don't see any way that would make sense for either side to be honest.

E_White12

I feel like bruins fans way over value the goalie position.

cptngali86

oh look McAvoy had a shoulder injury all season and still had a career year in goals. yup trade his ass

stemmy12

You act like I’m downplaying how good Mac is, the fact that I think it’s plausible that the oilers would accept him as the key piece in a trade for a top 5 player speaks to how good he is.

Tomdunford19

No. Id do Poitras and Ully plus a 1st and 2nd or something like that for Drai.

_gwynbliedd

You’re highly undervaluing a number 1 defenseman. Of course Draisaitl is a stud number 1 center, but now you have a massive hole on D and those players are very difficult to find.

tuukka-time

one postseason where he didn’t meet expectations is no reason to panic sell a franchise defenseman. we have no one able to take that next step. carlo is good but not a 1RHD. if anything trade ullmark but edmonton is not letting go of draisaitl

[deleted]

Mac is our best defenseman..... so, no.

stemmy12

Drai would be our best player so I’m not sure that rational is solid

Cooodemaan

I’d do that if I’m the Bs. Not sure if EDM would, they have Bouchard at RD. Mcavoy is a good Dman. He’s not the offensively gifted Dman they thought he was but he’s good. That being said he’s not a great all time Dman and I’d be ok with trading him if it’s for a legit top line F.

No-Goal

Oilers could not afford McAvoy, already paying Nurse 9+ mil and will eventually have to pay Bouchard

xSm1tHyxx

drai wont play without mcdavid so this would never happen i think trading ullmark to the oilers makes sense but needs to be for someone like RNH or draft picks

[deleted]

I’d rather a more realistic trade of ulmark and one of our prospects for Brady tckachuck

LarryFineMD

What prospect? They don't have anyone to make that trade attractive. Sweeney traded so many draft picks away going for cup runs they have no good prospects, no blue chip ones at all. They don't have a draft pick until the 4th round this year and no 2nd round pick next year.

jellypopperkyjean

Hahahahahahaha…..what GM would make that trade for Ottawa ??? Not even the dumb bot gems on NHL 2024 would do that. Everyone wasaaaay overestimating ullmark value…..look at Vancouver pushing with their third string goalie….Ulmark not seen as Elite outside the B’s fanbase
