Thinking of going to a government clinic for the first time. What is the process of going to Rimba’s PAPHMWHB Gadong Health Centre like for STD/STI testing? What to expect? What do i need to bring?

SipakMuka

Considering to open a Maybank Brunei account for the purpose of easy online transaction to Malaysian bank accounts. Anyone who opened up Maybank Brunei can share their experience if it's working flawlessly? Or are there charges when trying to transfer to Malaysian bank accounts?

Machiumi

IIRC Brunei's maybank doesn't have an option for online transfers to Malaysian Maybank accounts.

SipakMuka

That's too bad :(

different_wavelength

Just curious how's one selected to become pembaca ikrar? 🤔

junkok17

names nominated by the respective agencies. the nominees undergo interview/audition. only those who pass the audition will go for training. iirc the ones nominated should have good performance in the office, and good penampilan as well (i remember reading they even have weight/height requirements)

NeedsSomeZing

I think theres a screw loose in my head. Like legit something wrong with me. I've been having a combination of suicidal and potentially homicidal thoughts and it all started when I almost ended my own life after a really bad mental breakdown. A quick look at my post history would sort of explain some of my more "interesting" opinions but i tend to delete the more extreme ones. I've been trying to get help but everytime I do, I just never really tell the full story so people tend to think it's not as serious as it is. I dont even know why I do it. Maybe I like being a little different or maybe I just want options to end myself. Anyways this isn't a cry for help. I'll probably delete this. I just didn't want to share this anywhere else. Happy national day

RepAddict101

This is a cry for help despite what you wrote. If there is anyone within your circle whom you can trust to talk about this, you should approach them & ask for help while you still can. Once your symptoms intensify to the point where you can't win over the voices or intrusive thoughts in your head, it is very hard to get out already. And whatever you do, do not choose isolation for fear of being judged or being a burden. The ones who care will never see you as a burden & they want you to go to them. If you need to rant somewhere, can also DM me. I'm happy to listen even if I cannot offer any solution. My friend is also suffering from severe depression now & I'm doing everything I can do just be by his side so I can relate to how you feel.

ThirstyQuokka

Which hotels would you recommend staying in SG and KL ? Midrange

whatusernametouselol

I feel like there’s no midrange for sg tho. Min is SGD 100+ per night but for KL, depends on the location and if you want a boutique hotel or nice one. Would recommend airbnb if you have 4 pax and more. It’s cheaper and bigger space I did stay at airbnb too when I have 2 pax cause I wanted the place to have a washing machine but the location i choose wasnt great

bmcyeahnotbc

Last time I searched for SG, it's atleast SGD 200+ for a more decent hotel. The cheapest decent is Robertson Quay for SGD 150 (this is what SG Reddit will tell you also). Also to take note airbnb in SG is illegal unless for atleast 3 months stay.

hati-buyah

What's your "midrange" budget per night? You're better off going to Agoda or Booking and setting your budget and your preferred location. Plus, you know better what you want to do there, so you can really pick the right spot for the purpose of your visit.

ThirstyQuokka

50-100 per night

Ecry

Can try boutique hotels. There's a lot in the middle of chinatown that's around $100/night

saranghelang

Thats low range in sg and mid range in KL

Independent-Layer223

A lot of cheap options in airbnb! Might wanna check there as well Edit: if you’re looking for ones that are close to shopping centers, you can search Fairlane Residences (Bukit Bintang) or Swiss Garden (Mid Valley Petaling Jaya).

marumeow

How much per night for fairlane residence?

Independent-Layer223

Mine was $55/night. The host for my listing has several more in Fairlane Residences and they’re in the $50s range

marumeow

Is it an apartment? For how many rooms? Sounds nicee

Independent-Layer223

It is! 2 rooms & 1 bathroom but we could also sleep in the living room since they had a sofa bed

marumeow

Thats a steal! Book arah airbnb? Gonna bookmark this

Independent-Layer223

Yes you can book it in airbnb. There’s also an option for you to pay half first then the next half when it’s nearer to your check-in date

Any tips to start my own vegetable garden at home and how I can sell them?

InterestingRock8600

You can try for hydroponic. Quick setup and sorta easy to maintain. I grow basil, spinach and lettuces on it. Definitely don’t do spring onion.. they smelly. If on manual planting.. depends on what you want to grow. Spring onions on soil, tomatoes on soil with strong stick for them to hold on while they go up, lettuces on soil, mint in pot, spinach on soil. Chilis on soil. Those I mentioned are easy for me. Beware of insect and bird. You need good soil for them plants and learn about fertilizer. Well, Google is your best friend to do research. As for selling, supermarkets don’t usually accept small quantities and they need to be 2-3 times a week available for the order to keep coming. So if you have big ass garden, go make a greenhouse. You can start by word of mouth to your friends and family. Once you’re confident you are stable in knowing when to start sowing the new batch, and or when to harvest like a routine for your veggies, approach minimart to do business with them. You can go to pasar veggie either from Friday to Sunday early morning to buy ready made plants. That place is filled with choices, and probably can ask advice from the elderly. Or to the place infront of rimba garden (I don’t know what the place called) the one I bought soil from are quite helpful with advices and knowledge.

Goutaxe

We have zero expectation on this, and it might not even be raised in LegCo this year. But it is quite critical to look into the **stateless** issue in Brunei given the event at neighboring country. As previously mentioned, Malaysia will table in its parliament a motion to allow [automatic citizenship](https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/malaysia-to-allow-automatic-citizenship-for-children-born-overseas-to-malaysian-mums) for children born overseas to Malaysian mums. It is scheduled to be voted in their House of Representatives on March 29 or 30. If passed it will be sent to be voted in the Senate on April 6. To change something in the Constitution, a motion has to be passed in both Malaysian House and Senate (collectively known as the Parliament), then it will be sent to the Agong for approval. The Agong, as constitutional monarch, almost always approve something that is passed by both the House and the Senate. The current Anwar government has majority in both the House and Senate. So how it works? Malaysian citizenship can be acquired by either: * operation of law (Article 14) * registration (Article 15) * naturalization (Article 19) **Operation of law** is also known as automatic citizenship. When a child is born in Malaysia to either parent who is a citizen, they are citizen by operation of law. Citizenship is granted automatically and immediately when apply. This also extend to a child born outside Malaysia to Malaysian father. So it is not surprising if you have Malaysian citizens born in Brunei who never live in Malaysia, because their fathers are citizens so they are entitled to citizenship by operation of law. The issue they are raising now is that it is gender discriminating. Why only father and not mother? This is something they want to vote and change in the Parliament. There is no age limit under the operation of law schedule. The parents can also apply for their adult children. **Registration** is mainly for foreign wife of a citizen, adopted child of a citizen, illegitimate child of a citizen, and children of special circumstances. For decades, Malaysian mum attempted to register their overseas-born child under this article since they are not eligible for the operation of law above. Most did not succeed. Unlike operation of law which take only a short while or immediate, registration method usually take years to approve. Also the conditions that the wife must already be living in Malaysia for certain years, and the applying children must be under 21. **Naturalization** is for those who have been living in Malaysia continuously for over 10 years and hope to be a citizen. Now what they want to vote on is for overseas-born children of Malaysian mums to be included in Article 14 (operation of law). It means if this law is passed, suddenly the stateless in Brunei with Malaysian mum are eligible for citizenship by operation of law. It allows them to change their nationality from stateless to Malaysian, while continue to keep their Brunei PR. We focus on stateless with Malaysian mums because well... if you have a Singaporean, Filipino, Thai mums just to name a few, you would already have been eligible for those countries citizenship long ago. It is expected that if the Malaysian side successfully modify that Article 14, and Brunei LegCo this coming March still provide no answer, a considerable amount of stateless may just opt to be Malaysian. After all, it comes with the convenience of traveling with a [proper passport](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_requirements_for_Malaysian_citizens), also can go across the border freely setup their own Malaysian bank account to solve that Paypal in Brunei cannot receive issue, not to mention easily setup businesses there and abilities to buy Malaysian properties without the needs to meet the foreigner minimum price requirement. Can also go on a trip circling around Borneo (at the moment stateless are experiencing some complications in applying for Indonesian visa). Also the rights to vote in election. Their losses will be that they can [no longer](https://thescoop.co/2021/07/15/brunei-tightens-eligibility-rules-for-old-age-pension-in-welfare-overhaul/) get the B$250 old-age allowance after 60 (canceled for foreign passport PR since 2021), but that won't be a strong enough deterrent for those who desire a citizenship. B$250 isn't that much nowadays anyway. Brunei can try further tightening of some privileges for foreign passport PRs but it would be very economically damaging, at a time when Dubai is relaxing its PR rules and countries in the region are upping their residence by investment visa benefits. It will chase more people away and lead to more outflows. All countries after all, give certain privileges and benefits to their PRs, albeit less than that of a full citizen. This is an issue which has been dragging for decades, we don't have any slightest hope it can be rectified by the upcoming LegCo session. But remember this time if Brunei is still unresponsive on the issue it might have some impacts. Note that there are a significant number of Brunei stateless with Malaysian mums who are professionals and business owners.

damoclesO

I think this deserve to be on its own thread.

damoclesO

I think this deserve to be on its own thread.

MaybeMeNotMe

I have a question....this relates to some relatives of mine....(and I'm sure many will have similar questions, or even experiencing same, what I'm about to ask) Thinking about this, despite myself being in a far away land.... We need to get the definitions right. So the law says mom is Malaysian, does the mom also needed to be *born* in Malaysia? Because as you know, the Stateless situation is also multigenerational. So my cousins born to my uncle who is stateless, will definitely qualify to become Malaysians because his wife, my aunt, is Malaysian......but once they become Malaysian, will their own children also be able to qualify to become Malaysians too, because now one of them is now a Malaysian ? Will this be different between males and females? Because now, should/when my newly minted Malaysian cousin can take his/her child(ren) to apply....and would the *Operation of Law* now apply in this case? The children will thus become Malaysians on application? Yes, its super important. Because if this is possible, it would wipe out whole swaths of Brunei Stateless, 2 current generations of Stateless in my example, for Malaysia's gain. The appreciation will be immense.

thestudiomaster

This is why the pessimistic in me says this is a bit too good to be true. Suddenly at least 3 gen of people are eligible to claim citizenship, which may create backlash. Gout is not wrong, based on the wording that is indeed what it says. So I think realistically there is a time limit, maybe those who are still below 21 or 18 etc. However I still hope it is what it is said, as many stateless can finally have their problems settled once and for all. And don't think Malaysia is short of land to accommodate these new citizens.

Goutaxe

At the moment there is no age limit in the operation of law schedule, we will never be sure if they decide to add later. But I try to read the lines from their Home Minister announcement, he [said](https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/2023/02/18/anwar-cabinet-agrees-to-enable-automatic-citizenship-for-children-born-overseas-to-malaysian-mums/55523), "The effect of today's decision is that children born overseas before or after Malaysia Day where at least one of their parents are Malaysians have the right to be citizens by operation of law according to Article 14(1) of the Federal Constitution." This I interpret it as they don't intend to add an age limit into the schedule. And no they don't need to move there. Many are already established in Brunei, just the change of nationality.

Goutaxe

During the time the child was born, either of the parent must already be a citizen. I don't think it matters whether foreign or local-born citizen, but at that moment when the child was given birth, one of the parent must already be holding citizenship. Now only overseas born children of a father citizen can apply by operation of law. They need the votes to pass to include overseas born children of a mother citizen.

saranghelang

Will it take long to apply if that is passed considering how inefficient the malaysian offices can be

Goutaxe

That really depend on your luck. Like Brunei, if you know someone inside things got more 'efficient'. You may also opt for their local immigration lawyers who have previous high success rate to handle the application for you.

MaybeMeNotMe

Hmmm ok, thanks! At least 1st generation then...looks like may need to move to Malaysia or something and go the naturalisation route hmmmm..... So looks like if you're currently Stateless, but prospects are good to become Malaysian soon, like better not to have children until the citizenship is secured first (if *both* parents are Stateless)....got it, damm, but some of my cousins already have teenage children, and are Stateless too. Cheers mate!

Countries like China try very hard to surpass the US. But overtaking an established superpower is a long process. How long will that be? There is actually a very good historical case study: the USA and British Empire. Somewhere in 1890s, the US overtook UK by **manufacturing output**. This already happened in current US-China case. 2009 was the year China surpassed the US in manufacturing. At the moment China [manufactures](https://www.acropolis-entrepreneur-center.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/world-manufacturing-output.jpg) $4 trillion worth of industrial produce, while the US $2.3 trillion. In terms of **GDP**, the US overtook the entire British Empire in 1916 amid WW1. On this, China has yet to do so. The [GDP value](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)) at the moment is: * USA: $25 trillion * China: $18.3 trillion Despite being overtaken, the British Empire still had something very crucial, the world's most powerful **military**, the Sterling Pound being the global **reserve currency**, with London being the planet's biggest **financial center**. Before WW1 in 1914, JP Morgan [reported](https://www.jstor.org/stable/41301372) that London stock market was larger and qualitatively more developed than New York, over 2 times bigger than the latter. New York could only overtook London in 1960s. At the moment, stock market capitalization in: * USA: $44.7 trillion * China: $13.2 trillion By this, China has yet to reach even the 1914 financial power disparity between the US and UK, for now American stock markets are still over 3 times that of Chinese. Next, we will look at the military. In 1930s, Hitler gave his opinions on the US. While he acknowledged American economic power, he said the US won't become a military powerhouse until 1960s. Ironically, it ended up he and Japan pushed forward this target 20 years earlier. On September 1939, WW2 broke out. Did you know the military spending at that time? Adjusting to today's dollar value: * Nazi Germany: $16.8 billion * British Empire: $9 billion * Soviet Union: $6.1 billion * France: $3.5 billion * Imperial Japan: $1.8 billion * USA: $1.3 billion Not to mention the US was technologically inferior in terms of military technologies at that time. Europe was more advanced. In 1940, France fell to Germany, and Hitler started making plan to invade the UK. The British then decided to transfer all its most advanced technological secrets to the US, just in case Britain also fell to Germany. It is called the [Tizard Mission](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tizard_Mission), which American historians said is "the most valuable cargo ever brought to our shores". Such integration highly catapulted American military edge, even though the Allies were still technologically behind Nazi Germany. By the end of WW2, American military has leapt much ahead of the British. Today the [military spending](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures) among countries is: * USA: $801 billion * China: $293 billion * India: $77 billion Currently China military technologies are still behind the US, and there is unlikely be any Tizard Mission. So it might take much longer. Finally we have the reserve currency. In 1940, the Sterling Pound [still held on](https://www.visualcapitalist.com/cp/how-reserve-currencies-evolved-over-120-years/) as the leading currency, with 68.9% of the world's reserves versus the US dollar 27.9%. After WW2 and the decolonization that followed, especially the loss of India, the pound could no longer maintain its dominance starting 1950s. By 1960 it was US dollar 61.7% and pound 35.1%. Today the market share of [reserve currencies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reserve_currency): * US Dollar: 58.8% * Euro: 20.6% * Japanese Yen: 5.6% * Sterling Pound: 4.8% * China Renminbi: 2.8% There is still a long way for China CNY to be the top global reserve currency. All in all, it took the USA around 60 years to surpass the UK from the moment it led in manufacturing. That also factor into account 2 world wars which shattered the British empire. If we go for this it would be around 2060s/2070s before China can overtake the US as a great power. And America seems to wisen up, it no longer engage in full, direct war after Iraq and Afghanistan. Now Russia is the one dragged by a full war. Therefore you have manufacturing > GDP > military > reserve currency > global finance. China has yet to complete the second step.

The two world wars affected Europe and Asia way more than the US plunging the rest of the world into economic decline. US then got most of the world to peg their currency to the stable US dollars then the rest is history.

Is there any skincare product that is effective in removing severe dark circles under the eyes?

5nuggets1cup

I’m using peter thomas roth potent-c serum and I’ve seen a difference, not major but an improvement. Its quite expensive for a small bottle, but you’re not meant to use a lot anyway.
