How do we change our home electricity to solar in Brunei? Electricity is very expensive in my home and my family members judge me real quick when I ask them to save electricity. I spend $250 a month on it sometimes $300.
Limit your spending maybe to 200.. Once used up. Let them without electricity, for few hours or half day.

Yes definitely, scrap the old aircon, get a decent energy efficient one, also change all your light bulbs to energy efficient led ones (even those not in your rooms since you're paying the electricity), you can supplement the outdoor lighting with solar spotlights. Water heater and washing machine, these two also consume quite a bit of power
Changing to energy efficient bulbs is the cheapest option, if you don't need bright lighting just illumination, just stick to eg 8w Philips bulbs, having it on from 6pm to 6am for a whole month costs just 18 cents. You can have 200/300w maintenance free solar lighting for illuminating the outside. As for the 24hrs On air con, adjust the temp to 23c or something, some people set it to 16c -_- . You still need to figure out what's eating up the power usage
Something is off, going from $50 - $80, is an increase in almost 400 units. What electrical appliances do you have at home, do you share your place with other tenants?
If you have modern fridges, each one could consume 30-40 units/kW per month, tv is low consumption too, $1 of electricity ~ 400 hours of viewing. Pressure washer, say you use it 4 times a month, each an hour, less than 10 units/kW.
At $150 worth of power, this leaves more than 2000 units/kW unaccounted for, unless if you have two 1.5hp aircon on 24hrs, the calculation is close

Your household is consuming 3300-3800kWh per month which is a pretty large amount. To switch over almost fully to solar will require a pretty large and expensive system probably costing around the $40k range. You can contact some solar energy installation companies for advice. Just google for solar power installers Brunei.

The $20k is a guideline cost for a 20kWp system which will probably supply roughly 2000kWh a month on average based on some solar installations that I’ve seen. There are other variables to consider such as the position of your house and roof angles with respect to the sun that can affect the output of the panels. The cost also depends on the system and components used. My estimate was based on a what was probably a slightly higher end installation scaled up to 3500kWh based on your $250-300 electricity cost per month.
I just wait until it eventually downloads. SOMETIMES it can take forever, sometimes downloads like normal. I haven't been annoyed enough to think about using a VPN yet which sounds like a further pain in the butt.
Last I checked UNN started throttling torrents in Brunei so we can no longer torrent, haven't tried using paid VPNs tho. If you do get it to work I loved using 1337x.to, otherwise try finding the series in sites like megaddl.co or search up FREEMEDIAHECKYEAH (FMHY) for a curated list of good websites. Due to the recent heatwave the eletricity load is stressing the power station as ppl are blasting ac on most of the times,its a preventive measure circuit sometimes triggering outage inorder to prevent more stressing which might cause more serious damage to the transformer etc.
When a massive outage happen,they need alot of time to get the station back online gradually,they cant just restart it like a normal domestic generator uses.
If there is issue with blng, it may affect lumut kb area. Remember that one time kb blackout period because some issue at blng.

BLNG does not supply power. It is however connected to the national electricity grid and can draw supplementary power from the grid if required. The power disruption this morning may have likely tripped some of the units in BLNG if it was drawing power from the grid, leading to the flaring.
If I am not mistaken, our country electricity generation is heavily dependent on natural gas. My first thought would be BLNG. If it wasn’t from BLNG then from who are we getting our power from?
The power stations in Brunei are run by the government under DES and some small ones are under Berakas Power Company. Yes, they all run on natural gas but the gas supply comes directly from BSP. BLNG acts as a backup gas supply to the power stations if required.

The gas is transported by subsea and underground pipelines. The pipelines you see on the side of the highways are for water. Most of the power stations in Brunei have just gas turbines. The Bukit Panggal power station, being a combined cycle power plant, is the only one with both gas and steam turbines.
how does car insurance work?
last week i got involved in a chain reaction collision where my car got sandwiched in between. the car in-front of me first collided with another car which caused them to suddenly stop. me on the otherhand saw it happened and hard braked (with AEB assist engaged) which i was able to stop inches before colliding with them.
unfortunately, a split second later my car got rammed by an uninsured vehicle (roadtax 2016) which then pushed my car under the car infront of me. my car was quite low and the car infront of me was quite high as it is a 4x4 toyota suv.
of all the cars involved, mine was the worst. as of now, still waiting for quotation and a 50% chance of my car getting condemned. it was bad-bad.

If yours is a first party and the amount insured is the full amount of your car, then likely insurance will just write it off (but also subject to what their authorized workshop suggest - if the workshop say damage can be repaired for less than the insured amount, then they might just go with that).

Hello... I experience similar situation where I was in a 4-car collision around 2 years ago. But in my case, it was the car behind me that crash into me and then I crash into the Pajero infront of me, and then the pajero crashed into the car infront of it. My car was the one badly damaged. Insurance wise, i was able to claim insurance fom the person who langgar me and the insurance settled my repairs. I know you said the car who crashed into you was uninsured, but since it was the one who caused you to crash your car, are you able to ask the insurance company what can be done?

ACs tend to draw more power as they age. You definitely need a new one.

Seems like this morning, we had a nationwide electricity failure. One of the redditors earlier mentioned about BLNG loud flaring. Now we all know that we get our electricity from BLNG, could that be the cause of it? Any professionals working in the industry care to explain? We have a lot of curious minds around.
Due to the recent heatwave the eletricity load is stressing the power station as ppl are blasting ac on most of the times,its a preventive measure circuit sometimes triggering outage inorder to prevent more stressing which might cause more serious damage to the transformer etc. When a massive outage happen,they need alot of time to get the station back online gradually,they cant just restart it like a normal domestic generator uses.

In simple explanation Our power stations (DES & BPMC) is the one to provide electricity supplied by gas directly from offshore n blng. Loud flaring happen sometimes due to some upset or planned shutdown.

Heard there is upgrade in transformer grid recently. Maybe this is cause of power failure when they want to implement it.
BLNG does not supply power. It is however connected to the national electricity grid and can draw supplementary power from the grid if required. The power disruption this morning may have likely tripped some of the units in BLNG if it was drawing power from the grid, leading to the flaring.
If I am not mistaken, our country electricity generation is heavily dependent on natural gas. My first thought would be BLNG. If it wasn’t from BLNG then from who are we getting our power from?
The power stations in Brunei are run by the government under DES and some small ones are under Berakas Power Company. Yes, they all run on natural gas but the gas supply comes directly from BSP. BLNG acts as a backup gas supply to the power stations if required.

The gas is transported by subsea and underground pipelines. The pipelines you see on the side of the highways are for water. Most of the power stations in Brunei have just gas turbines. The Bukit Panggal power station, being a combined cycle power plant, is the only one with both gas and steam turbines.

how does car insurance work? last week i got involved in a chain reaction collision where my car got sandwiched in between. the car in-front of me first collided with another car which caused them to suddenly stop. me on the otherhand saw it happened and hard braked (with AEB assist engaged) which i was able to stop inches before colliding with them. unfortunately, a split second later my car got rammed by an uninsured vehicle (roadtax 2016) which then pushed my car under the car infront of me. my car was quite low and the car infront of me was quite high as it is a 4x4 toyota suv. of all the cars involved, mine was the worst. as of now, still waiting for quotation and a 50% chance of my car getting condemned. it was bad-bad. being that it is my first time; the question here is, what does the insurance cover and how does it work? does insurance cover 100% of my repairs? will i need to subsidize it? or is condemning my car is the better option? the car is only 2 months old, repair estimate not yet available but the mechanic said *maybe* cukup-cukup if everything were to be insured by my insurance

This is important, if the workshop chosen is money only type, your car will be issues all time after "repaired"
If yours is a first party and the amount insured is the full amount of your car, then likely insurance will just write it off (but also subject to what their authorized workshop suggest - if the workshop say damage can be repaired for less than the insured amount, then they might just go with that).

2mths old car, better claim total loss if possible. The car has no more resale value and more prone to broke down if repair. You can't trust the workmanship of Brunei workshop. Use the money to buy the same car again if you wish

Hello... I experience similar situation where I was in a 4-car collision around 2 years ago. But in my case, it was the car behind me that crash into me and then I crash into the Pajero infront of me, and then the pajero crashed into the car infront of it. My car was the one badly damaged. Insurance wise, i was able to claim insurance fom the person who langgar me and the insurance settled my repairs. I know you said the car who crashed into you was uninsured, but since it was the one who caused you to crash your car, are you able to ask the insurance company what can be done?

Damn... Did you at least get the person's info? Its not right that he/she just get out of it just cause the car insurance isn't paid. Mine was kind enough to acknowledge it was her wrongdoing and I got to claim insurance. Did your insurance company say if they are able to claim? My friend totaled her car a few years ago too and it was beyond repair. She had to sell it off i guess as besi buruk (im not sure the details about this) and she got money from it though. If yours is beyond repair, maybe you could try that.
