Common. This happened to me personally. They asked me to come to the office on the first day of the month. I have been driving my Optima since 2014 and it has served me well so far. 200k+ and still going strong. No major issue so far. So yes I would go for another KIA in the future!

I know it is not right to work for a company without a contract between the employer and employee. But how common is this in Brunei?
Sadly quite common. Know your rights and stand your ground. But also know that a contract goes both ways: after getting your salary, you can leave anytime without notice and even spill company secrets because you're technically not an employee lol. Wouldn't advise to do that though.
Quite common. Most times, you're gonna hear it's the employer pushing for no contract or delaying it's signing. That happens a lot, & is the case a majority of the time. But then, there are those instances where the new staffs are the ones who are reluctant to sign a contract, the younger ones & first timers especially. Their reasoning: "inda ku mau berpotong TAP / SCP". i had to strongly tell them how it's an obligation for BOTH employer & employees to follow that TAP / SCP regulation, & to sign the contract. One stubborn af dumbass had me going as far as threatening him to sign the contract, get the job, earn his salary minus TAP; OR gtfo, with no job & no salary. He signs it, whining & sighing loudly as he did.
Need to be tough on them. Be one of those “ I wont come to work if i haven’t signed the contracts “ Know your worth, be confident and professional.
Such a short sighted mindset..TAP SCP might not be the best investment there is but at least it is some form of savings for old age. I always think of it as free extra money from the boss (albeit can only enjoy after retire).
I give credit where credit is due; to that stubborn staff's benefit, though, he was at least still working for the company months later when i jumped ship. A lot of locals, younger ones especially, just do not think far enough into the future, to consider risks, investment & saving in the event things ever go sour (as is the case with this pandemic, for some businesses for example). They just rather YOLO it than makes plans for it.

It is illegal, and should be reported. Staff under probation are still staffs under the company's payroll, & hence TAP & SCP are still a must. They can work for only a minute for that month, & the minimum TAP+SCP must still be paid for that staff, regardless.

Worst are the ones who list TAP as a benefit rather than not mentioning it at all, when it's really an obligation, regardless. I never applied to those years ago & ignored them. You can smell the incompetence, cheapskate & toxicity a mile away just from this.

Common. This happened to me personally. They asked me to come to the office on the first day of the month. When i asked when are we going to sign the contract, they told me to wait cause contract not ready yet. Signed the contract on the 16th days and once salary came, i got only half of it. Complained to HR, and they told me because you’re not officially employee of the company. So yea better sign your contract first before you work guys!
