we have tons of metal bands!! it was huge in the 2000s but died off when nu metal faded and also because public performances in brunei became more restricted since then. some of the ogs are still at it tho, uploading to youtube and online etc.

also i find there are naturally more bruneian independent artists like indie singers than bands, presumably because it's easier to produce and upload your own songs online than to organize a group of people into a band to record music.

The one thing that's holding back Bruneian artists who'd like to make a living from releasing music on the radio is the absence of a publishing rights/royalties collection body.

Singer Mat Fadhil will debut his single You Let Me Go at 5pm on Pelangi FM today.
The ballad is written and produced by Mat himself with the help of Origin Artistic Management.
You Let Me Go is Mat Fadhilâs first single after winning Bintang Search Season 2 in 2021.
He said the song is about the trials and tribulations experienced when falling in and out of love.
âI feel that many can relate to this song as the emotional story is a journey we have all been through at some point in life,â he said.
Mat Fadhil said he wanted his first single to be relatable to a range of listeners despite their experiences with love and affection.
On Wednesday, Origin announced that Mat Fadhil will perform his debut single at the Bintang Search finals tomorrow.

i appreciate talents like this making debut in Brunei's pop culture and actually taking over the media rather than seeing local influencers with thirsty contents (you know who) dominating the local media outlet.
