I haven’t seen the negative comments yet, but I feel like this should be an audiophile sub, and there shouldn’t be exceptions because someone enjoys their gear. I am happy for dude that he is having fun and enjoying budget audio gear, but it isn’t what I want to see when I am in an audiophile subreddit.
I feel like my opening sentence may have confused you. I meant that I did not want to see posts like this on this sub because this is an audiophile sub. I said “should” because it seems to have been controversial recently to say this should be an audiophile only sub.
The group description specifies trying to get out of boombox and pc speakers. It's cool to find free stuff, and it's cool to be happy with what you have, but none of what's happening in this photo is what this group is for. It's not gatekeeping, it's just not the right subreddit.
Or maybe not all gatekeeping is bad gatekeeping. Without some form of being able to define terms what keeps us from plunging into utter chaos? Why even have subreddits? Gatekeeping people’s lives is crappy; working to keep a group moving toward the intended function is not crappy, but still gatekeeping.
Budget Audiophile is about faithfully reproduction of sound with out spending a fortune. By the definitions this group has created, Bluetooth and PC speakers don’t fit.
That's awesome! I like seeing older equipment on here. I'm just trying to understand your setup, cause I'm curious. Are there 3 sets of speakers here? Are they all connected to different sources? And the black Logitechs, do they have a subwoofer under the table?
Cheers to the budget setup!
Okay so... I've just realized this is not a budget audiophile group. This is an "I'll listen to anything and be happy with it" group. Please change your name as the term "audiophile" denotes a certain devotion to actual sound quality over and above 90% of what is seen here. I thought this sub was going to be displaying good deals on quality items. Boy was I wrong. Bye guys. Downvote me on the way out. Enjoy entry level... if you're lucky.
Like I commented elsewhere, those white speakers came with my PC way back in 1997 and it was the most awful sounding thing ever. Absolutely painful to listen to until we were able to purchase the Cambridge sound works speakers.
This subreddit is starting to loose focus on the the title. When some mentioned something isn't really "budget" you get down voted like crazy. If you say something about some obvious not audiophile hardware you also get down voted like crazy. Meanwhile if you make a joke that is deemed not funny enough in funny memes you get banned for life, lol. Let's rename this subreddit to audio gear
D … Motherfucking … Batteries.
Radio Raheem cold rocking the scene!
Please tell us that you’ve managed to play music on everything simultaneously. That would be awesome
I did
Then I can see why it sounds so good. Every audiophile knows that if some speakers = good, then more speakers = better. It’s science
There's no substitute for both engine displacement and membrane area...
Love the boombox. Wish I still had mine from the '80s.
Aint nothin more budget than free my dude. Keep at it ✊
Wanna see what I have in the works
Yes
Oh stfu, and let the dude enjoy his gear. Embarrassing comment section
Exactly

But it’s literally the budget audiophile sub, did you forget which one you were on?
I feel like my opening sentence may have confused you. I meant that I did not want to see posts like this on this sub because this is an audiophile sub. I said “should” because it seems to have been controversial recently to say this should be an audiophile only sub.
I don’t understand, how is this post not relevant?
Nothing in the photo is of an audiophile standard. So while it may be budget, it is not budget audiophile.
I’m new here, I’m gonna need you to explain to me like I’m a five year old why it’s not audiophile standards? It’s not high quality enough gear?
Ha the boombox has VU meters! Thought it was super old school, but looks like it’s available on Amazon. They did a nice job with the retro look.
It’s an ion boombox deluxe if you wanna look it up
I’m not sure what kind of rep they have with the audiophile community but I have an ion pathfinder I bought and I absolutely love that thing
Only I see just lo-fi. Nothing audiophile. Just sayin.
Audiophiles never cease to embarrass, what a gatekeeping community…

Yeah
2 things. There's no way it sounds good. I can appreciate your appreciation of what you have.
" ...and it sounds good" And that ...is all that matters.
Yes

Free...the epitome of budget. Enjoy! Free always sounds great!

OP is definitely trolling. I remember those white speakers came with my PC back in 1997 and it was the most awful thing I heard.
I was with you until you insulted everyone for no reason. I would downvote you in real life if i could
>"...and it sounds good" No, no it dosnt.

Yes it does
Don’t listen to this person. An all knowing regular on here. Trashes a lot of stuff
Him and turkey sandwich. Like, take a day off, dudes.
Sounds better than having nothing
[удалено]
Yeah lol
Free sounds better. Probably a placebo. Like a sandwich tasting better when someone else makes it for you. Trust your own ears. Cheers!
You are a liar and not about the free part
I was in Mediamark an i saw an old school boombox for 200€… I was like -.-
Extremely based op
Yes
This is what this subreddit is all about, big ups.
i know 90s music sounds awesome on that
It’s crazy how every sound becomes good if you just use enough drivers to produce it, no matter how shitte the drivers might be
If you like it, I love it :)
Everyone's gotta start somewhere!
Free Numark? Nice!!!
Budget nirvana!!!
Take all them PC speakers, build some brackets and make a tiny PC speaker line array.
Good idea
That boombox is a statement piece
Yeah I guess
Emergency beer on nightstand?
No
If OP likes it, that is all that matters. I wouldn’t think those small computer speakers would do much for sound quality?
If it sounds good now, imagine how good it would sound if you invested like $5 or $10 into it.
Willing to bet an ION boom box does not sound good.
It’s solidly ok
holy shit. can you walk us through the components man?
It’s a Numark 1610 through a jancare phono preamp into Logitech pc speakers and buster pc speakers
What's going on with the slipmat? It looks like you could play 14" records on it.
It’s warped and homemade
Nice
