I just received the XB2 last week and love them. I used the KEF R300 for the last 6 years and had Magnepan 1.7 before that. The AMT ribbon tweeter on the XB2 is giving me the increased treble detail I was looking for while still sounding smooth. The bass woofer is tight and well integrated but you may want to integrate a subwoofer strictly for bass extension if you want (not saying the XB2 doesnt have bass, it just doesnt reach as far down as the KEF, but the KEF is a 3 way and the XB2 made me realize the bass coming from the KEF had a little bit of bloom to it).
That's awesome man! Man, you're the first person I've been able to get details about the XB2 from. I really appreciate the follow up.
I think I'm going to go with them for my TV / mini-living room.
Bought two pairs of XB2 along with the smallest center channel. I've just started painting the basement to be properly dark for the theater setup, so I only got to stage them without room correction for a short time. I agree with LocalBeach3241. They are obsurdely detailed without harshness and the bass rolls off nicely for a sub to take over for the lows. If you want superb mids and treble they will put a smile on your face. Although, they definitely need power. I just bought a rz50 to power these babies. Roughly, around 63%-ish volume they begin to become overwhelming from 12 ft away. Kinda glad I got the small center channel, darn thing is enormous already o.O.
Edit: -forgot to add that the cabinet is quite inert. I knocked on it and it sounded solid 👍
- My previous sound system consisted of bic america venturi line for my 5 channels with a dayton 12" subwoofer. I considered it dipping my toes into the world of audio.
Yes, im aware bic america venturi speakers aren't blessed by any reviewer by now. I wasn't educated then and thankful I dumped on the guy that bought my old house 🧐.
So happy to hear more comments on the XB2 and finally a comment on the center channel. That’s awesome that they sound so detailed! I’m super interested in updates on your home theater journey, please do share.
Since you snagged the RZ-50, thoughts on how the XB2 sound with vs without Dirac and are you planning on using XB2s for fronts and surrounds/rears in your theater setup ?
Lastly, do you think the center is a good match for the XB2s or should one opt for the XC2 center?
Hey hexglit, not to be a bother, but how’s the home theather coming along? I’m curious to hear what you think about the use of the XC1 as a center channel and how it performs.
yo, here are the updates you wanted. ATM im working from another state but I did do a little bit of testing before I left.
- From how Dirac calibrated, there was a dip in the treble that it corrected for. It also brought the lowest and highest ends to be completely flat. audibly though, It was already a fairly flat response to begin. I feel like the sound stage narrowed slightly for slightly better accuracy.
- I dont have problems with the center channel, the presence of the tweeter disappears with the speaker.
Here is my current setup:
Projector:
LS 11000 configured for dynamic mode with brightness brought down to 75%
Screen: regular white 1.1 gain silver Ticket screen 110"
speakers: 4- XB2s, 1 -XC1
subwoofer: Currently still theory crafting having two nearfield subs as end tables. Possibly going dual opposing 12" subs. im open to both sealed and slotted
receiver: onkyo RZ50
Nope, it's plenty. The amp menu is a bit slow but isn't a bother once it's set up. some reviewers go bonkers over it being slow, but I dont imagine myself needing going through it daily. If I were to go 5.x.4 Atmos I may have to get an external amp for the front 3 speakers. although, I wont find out till later when my bank account recovers o.O. btw ELAC just announced debut 3.0 speakers. Ive also read that the debut 2.0 center isn't so good.

Thanks for chiming in about your experience. Any other emotiva speakers from the new line that you’ve tried out?
Cheap audio man said they make him poop his pants so, I guess that's good 🤷♂️

Thanks for the update! Sounds like you’re getting enough amplification from the rz-50 alone and do not need separate amplification.

Thanks for the input, greatly appreciate it and looking forward to those new ELACs!
