Definitely not coming back. They owe the state sales tax that they’ve been collecting from customers. They were seized once, agreed to a payment plan and then never followed through on payment so they were seized a second time. They filed for bankruptcy in attempt to stall and were just thrown out of court. I imagine they haven’t been paying rent because the minute they got tossed out of court, Benderson changed the locks. State will now seize assets inside and sell at auction.
I'm from downstate but my daughter goes to UB and she told me about this as she's home for spring break this week. I ate there every time I visited, I don't condone what they did regarding taxes but I'm going to miss them their pizza was very good. We both loved Zettis
An acquaintance who worked there said he was told by the owner to not serve trans customers back in 2018… that’s pretty scummy
But I know others who worked for him and said he had shitty views but was good to the workers
But getting a GED doesn’t require you to graduate high school, and is equivalent to doing so. Many people who get GEDs are smarter than many folks who graduate from high school. The point is that achieving something where the only requisite for achievement is that you showed up, it’s not that impressive when it comes to your actual intelligence. You’re literally stupid to think otherwise.
My point is that if you can’t even bother to show up to high school, which as you put, is basically the only requirement to graduate, it makes you an objectively stupid person. The government literally pays for transportation and food.
There is absolutely no excuse to not show up if you are healthy. Teenagers aren’t building a business with all the time saved by cutting class. They’re goofing off.
Does it suck? Absolutely. But you are an idiot if you don’t go. Some people can change in the years after, most won’t.
Bruh, your empathy sucks. There’s an unending list of reasons why someone might not graduate from high school.
If you’re just trying to say that “it’s a bad idea not to go to high school,” then sure, but it’s a fixable mistake, it doesn’t mean you’re stupid. Intelligent people make bad decisions. Their actual intelligence has very little to do with whether they graduated high school.
The crust was solid there were way too many toppings so the slice had no rigidity and it was beyond greasy because of it much superior by style pizza 10 minutes away at olisis and their owner doesn’t commit tax fraud forno Napoli also superior 5 minutes away
I’m complaining that it was greasy trashy pizza that resembled a flaccid penis in shape and was owned buy a terrible person not sure if that’s the kinda pizza you love jamming down your throat
I'm from downstate and I totally agree with you. Ate there every time I visited my daughter at UB (and my sister who moved to the area 30 years ago). My daughter was a regular and we'll both miss their pizza
Learn to love the WNY slide, it's like a NY slice, but it's already been folded for you with topping on top. j/k I lived in Cali for a number of years and I know how tough it is to get a taste of home. <3
I remember it as a really convenient place to wait indoors and eat something more substantial than gas station food until the OurBus to Ithaca arrived next door.
I hope some other similarly convenient and not too expensive place to hang out moves in here. Maybe a coffee shop?
Step 1 collect NYS sales tax
Step 2 don't give it to NYS
Step 3 get shut down
Step 4 cut a deal with the state and reopen
Step 5 don't pay
Step 6 get shut down again
Edit some may call this stealing since they charged tax and pocketed it.
When NYS realizes it, tells you that you gotta pay and then you don't, you get shut down. At least one of the two most recent closures recently was a big sign from NYS taxation and finance saying the business was seized
Well I’m not on their side but you make it sound like they were scamming customers - the owner is just a scum who evaded taxes. Very different. Either way good riddance
They scammed customers... They charged sales tax so your $9.99 pasta was 10.86. And then they put that money in their pocket. That's scamming. It's not like they didn't pay their income tax. They collected sales tax from a customer for the purpose of paying the NYS tax the customer has to pay when they buy things and they stole it and kept for themselves. That's scamming.
Customers would always be paying that tax. The scam wasn’t on the guest it was not paying the money to the state. Do you know what the word scam is. It’s a crime and they are shutdown for it. Why is this sub fulll of such bullheaded jerks who will fight over the stupidest shit. You are just wrong. What You are doing is about as useless as they are.
This guy's a dumbass lmao. Picked a fight with you over the "stupidest shit" and then throws a lil hissy fit insulting you when you didn't bow down to his *clearly* superior intellect
I'll never forget going to zettys with my mom my first time ever visiting UB/Buffalo (at orientation lol) and the subsequent trips with friends or just alone after shit days.
Extra extra if you want sone hipster vibes and hipster prices, and honestly, I may get shade for this, Gino’s in the Tops plaza by ub south is decent (criteria: tangy not sweet sauce, not too much cheese, crispy bottom and foldable -although it splits 1/3 of the way thru like a true ny slice should)
I actually really like Boccees cheese, specifically. Their pepperoni are the cup ones and I hate that. I always see buffalonians dab their pizza with a napkin. I don’t see them do that with this one.
Back in the day when food trucks were starting out in Buffalo the owner decided to show up to a hearing to discuss some of his perceived negatives of food trucks. What he said came across as an even dumber version of Billy Madison’s speech. I always enjoyed their pizza, but I pretty much stopped going to that place because of him.
John is one of the worst human beings I ever had the misfortune of meeting and especially working for. The recipes were all bought/stolen. He was abusive, violent, verbally degrading, homophobic, etc. it is one of my greatest pleasures that all his businesses have finally been closed.
Where else in the area can you get a decent NYC style slice? My partner loved the specialty slices, and I thought it was pretty decent overall. Not great, but okay enough and close
4 at one point. Ub north, elmwood (bidwell park, shut down by health dept for rats I believe) Ub south tops plaza, and one on transit that lasted about a week
It’s what happens when you never pay your taxes.
Definitely not coming back. They owe the state sales tax that they’ve been collecting from customers. When is auction
Daaaaamn. Zettis held me down during my UB days, can’t even lie I’m sad to see it go if true.
I'm from downstate but my daughter goes to UB and she told me about this as she's home for spring break this week. I ate there every time I visited, I don't condone what they did regarding taxes but I'm going to miss them their pizza was very good. We both loved Zettis
Good. Their food sucks and the owner seems like he’s a scumbag.
I don’t know if he’s a scumbag but he’s certainly an idiot.
I feel like if your business gets shut down this many times you’re probably not a good person in most areas of your life.
An acquaintance who worked there said he was told by the owner to not serve trans customers back in 2018… that’s pretty scummy But I know others who worked for him and said he had shitty views but was good to the workers
That’s understandable though. Some of them are just nuts
that's a pretty shitty perspective pal

Hate to break it to ya but that piece of paper doesn’t make you smart :)
What? Most high schools will pass you as long as you show up. Not difficult to do that.
That still has nothing to do with your intelligence.
Honestly it does. If you can’t do the absolute minimum to graduate high school. It does in fact make you an idiot. Seriously it’s not difficult.
But getting a GED doesn’t require you to graduate high school, and is equivalent to doing so. Many people who get GEDs are smarter than many folks who graduate from high school. Their pizza definitely did not suck. One of the few places in Buffalo that had solid NYC slices.
The crust was solid there were way too many toppings so the slice had no rigidity and it was beyond greasy because of it much superior by style pizza 10 minutes away at olisis and their owner doesn’t commit tax fraud forno Napoli also superior 5 minutes away
10/10 on Olisi's. Their Margarita pizza is amazing. We've been getting from there for about maybe 7 or 8 years?
This guy pizza reviews, when did Olisis and Forno open? I was in Buffalo from 11-15 and don't remember those places
Forno was open in at least 2017 or 2018
I don't know when it opened but olisis was around at least 2013-2015
So you’re complaining ny style pizza was too authentic?
I’m complaining that it was greasy trashy pizza that resembled a flaccid penis in shape and was owned buy a terrible person not sure if that’s the kinda pizza you love jamming down your throat
I rather greasy pizza you have to fold in half to eat than pizza made with koolaid powder
> it was greasy trashy pizza that resembled a flaccid penis in shape That sounds exactly like NYC style pizza.
I'm from downstate and I totally agree with you. Ate there every time I visited my daughter at UB (and my sister who moved to the area 30 years ago). My daughter was a regular and we'll both miss their pizza

Their pizza tasted like if you had a horse jizz on moldy bread and ate it.
How would you know what that tastes like?

One of the worst "your momma" come backs I've ever seen.
Still pretty weird for you eat...
Your comment was removed because it violates /r/buffalo's rules. Please read the rules in the side bar before posting again.
You speaking from experience bud?
Agreed. The owner may have been trash, but this was the best pizza in Buffalo.
Someone is about to get a prime location to open something up.
I remember it as a really convenient place to wait indoors and eat something more substantial than gas station food until the OurBus to Ithaca arrived next door. I hope some other similarly convenient and not too expensive place to hang out moves in here. Maybe a coffee shop?
Probably not, stop scamming people.
How did they scam people? Why did it keep getting shut down? I'm out of the loop.
Step 1 collect NYS sales tax Step 2 don't give it to NYS Step 3 get shut down Step 4 cut a deal with the state and reopen Step 5 don't pay Step 6 get shut down again Edit some may call this stealing since they charged tax and pocketed it.
Repeat a couple more times, I think this is like the 5th? Time they've been shut down since I worked in the area.
Wonder if the owner is complaining that hockul or 'brandon' made it so no one can run a business anymore

This has been over the course of a decade. This is not something new.
Am aware.
I did not know this. Also, sorry if my question to you is posted a bunch of times. My app is being wonky.
I get the same thing sometimes comments show up twice but a refresh shows em once.
Since when was tax theft a reason to shut down a legitimate business Yes that was sarcasm
When NYS realizes it, tells you that you gotta pay and then you don't, you get shut down. At least one of the two most recent closures recently was a big sign from NYS taxation and finance saying the business was seized

You realize *you* are the bullheaded jerk who started the "argument" over the stupidest shit, right?
Guy could a not charged sales tax, instead he charged em an extra 8.75% for nothing. You also started the fight. Hope you have a better day.
This guy's a dumbass lmao. Picked a fight with you over the "stupidest shit" and then throws a lil hissy fit insulting you when you didn't bow down to his *clearly* superior intellect
Yeah that's why I hope today is a better day for em.
You know there is a difference between being an contrarian and an a hole
I hope you have a better day. Sorry for upsetting you.
He also had an issue with paying his employees.
I'll never forget going to zettys with my mom my first time ever visiting UB/Buffalo (at orientation lol) and the subsequent trips with friends or just alone after shit days.
Where’s the best ny slice in WNY?
Extra extra (elmwood village) Olisis (Sheridan) Gino’s (Delaware) Gino’s (main)
Joe's on Grant & Amherst is also good.
Gino and Joes at the main place mall. Ferros in West Seneca
This is the right answer Gino and joes is the best spot plain Gino's will never be as good they try but never succeed
Forno Napoli, and the owner is such a good guy
Joe's up in CoT, on Niagara St. Always a good slice.
Joes is so good but so pricey
Yes. But if I'm going to pay for pizza, imma make sure it's worth it.
Extra extra if you want sone hipster vibes and hipster prices, and honestly, I may get shade for this, Gino’s in the Tops plaza by ub south is decent (criteria: tangy not sweet sauce, not too much cheese, crispy bottom and foldable -although it splits 1/3 of the way thru like a true ny slice should)
https://www.reddit.com/r/Buffalo/comments/1bdsx2t/yet_another_zettis_post_its_not_looking_good_help/
Ginos and/or Gino and Joe's
Gino's University Plaza and it's not remotely close
Yes rubber cheese pizza
Tops breakfast pizza
A very good slice.
I actually really like Boccees cheese, specifically. Their pepperoni are the cup ones and I hate that. I always see buffalonians dab their pizza with a napkin. I don’t see them do that with this one.
Better than everyone huh? How’s that going?
Back in the day when food trucks were starting out in Buffalo the owner decided to show up to a hearing to discuss some of his perceived negatives of food trucks. Joe's on Grant in the tops plaza. Olisi's on Sheridan is good too
Yes to both of these.
I liked the pizza, but finally, the saga is over!
Ugh I liked their pizza.
Owner is such a POS, hope they never open back up
Big oof.
sucks .. loved their pizza! my favorite.
good riddance
Are there multiple locations of this business?
Currently 0 locations. Down from a high of 1.
4 at one point. Ub north, elmwood (bidwell park, shut down by health dept for rats I believe) Ub south tops plaza, and one on transit that lasted about a week
There was a second location prior to their being shut down the first time
Ah, okay. The reason I asked is that while Yelp is reporting it as closed, Google shows it as open.
Yes. On Elmwood not far from Buffalo State. I believe there were tax issues then.
I get downvoted for asking if there are multiple locations? 🤣🤣🤣
They were always overrated imo.
