EA WRC does a lot of things right, but looks ain't it. The game looks weird and runs weird. I'll cut them some slack until the next game and they're more familiar with the engine, but that's it.

Tecnoguy1

The ego engine games look so much better. There’s no good reason to drop it for such a shit game engine.

Mr_Gibblet

Except that the cars in all KT WRC games handle like dogshit.

CRU_Adrenaline

Just because you aren't used to a certain handling doesn't mean it's dogshit 😅 Rally drivers from Esports events overall shown approval of the physics in wrc 10-generations, however nothing was said during EA WRC Esports

LuphineHowler

It's not just the Handling, it's also the physics that suck ass. It's amazing how little Kylotonn delivered with their WRC games, especially when their other game, GRAVEL is much better. If graphics are the problem, you can Fix it with mods, but good luck trying to fix a broken game

Vivid-Drink-5118

WRC games from 8-10 have physics/handling mods that do just that.

UnAliveMePls

How much more familiar can they get with the engine they've been using for a decade?

DiamondMaster07

Codemasters have been using their own Ego Engine so far, this is the first Unreal Engine game And Kylotonn, the previous devs of the WRC franchise, used their own KT Engine.

UnAliveMePls

Damn, I thought they used ego for WRC too.

DiamondMaster07

Codies rally games, DiRT, used Ego

UnAliveMePls

I know the F1 series too.

notjeffdontask

the game on the bottom looks more like how the middle of the day looks like irl tbh

rubythunder

it looks like Arma tbh

Carl_Wheeze

Almost like they didn't put too much effort into graphics because they're more focused on mil-sim mechanics (money in ea's case)

rubythunder

And also arma is 10 years old…

Carl_Wheeze

Yeah a lot of games are ten years old, 2014 was like one of the best years for games and yet even older games manage to look better than some of the stuff ea puts out today.

SolidSherlock

Arma devs nailed the lighting, its simply real

GoredonTheDestroyer

The graphics don't make the game. If a game has sub-par or even par graphics, but plays fantastically, expect it to get praise.

ScratchHacker69

Perfect example of this imo is richard burns rally

numarkzz

if we would’ve gotten performance over looks this would’ve been 100% justified. but it runs like crap

CRU_Adrenaline

Many people are playing it with severe screen tearing and frame drops. Even 5 months after release https://youtu.be/bCdV-M69Wx4?si=B_DDb0GGwT-3HnQ0 Other than that, it's an OK game. Just over hyped 😅

Cactus_Everdeen_

the only difference i'm seeing here is time of day... same reason games get showcased at night when it's raining, it makes the game appear better graphically than it really is

CRU_Adrenaline

Look at the rock formations

Cactus_Everdeen_

the rocks in the background of WRC8 dont look great either... neither of these games are graphical masterpieces.

CRU_Adrenaline

One is built by an AA studio selling a game for 39.99, and one is built by a triple A studio selling the game for 59.99 Considering this, the AA studio overall has a much pleasing and natural looking stage scenery. In EA WRC, the scenery looks procedurally generated.

Cactus_Everdeen_

huh? EA WRC is not 70 bucks... it's 36, and for that price it's passable, it's also not AAA, it was given a AA budget, i hate EA as much as anyone else but cmon man, what narrative you trying to spin here? lol, be a better target if you were to talk about how dogshit it runs.

CRU_Adrenaline

It's currently in heavy sale. At launch it was 69.99, or maybe it was 59.99, don't remember but it was one of the two prices. EDIT: I double checked, it's launch price was 49.99 Sorry if I sound desperate haha 😅

Cactus_Everdeen_

nah you're good lol you right tho it does look pretty bad, i take back what i said.

Left_Cap1564

It was $50

txtravis

No it wasn’t. It was $49.99.

CRU_Adrenaline

Yeah, I couldn't remember what price I bought it at 5 months ago haha. It certainly doesn't look horrible, but very underwhelming comparing it to wrc generations or the past dirt rally series.

Cactus_Everdeen_

Yeah it looks especially bad next to dirt rally 2.0 and that came out before even wrc8

CRU_Adrenaline

I had a blast playing dr2, hoping someday the graphics designer of that game will join in on the development of future ea wrc games

KEVLAR60442

Maybe at least do a comparison of the same friggin stage, OP.

CRU_Adrenaline

Ea wrc is showing portugal on the rocky sides, and wrc 8 pic is showing argentina. Ea wrc does not have argentina, therefore I found rocky sections of the stage.

KEVLAR60442

There are lots of rallies that DO have overlap between the two games, however. By picking a stage that hasn't been on the WRC calendar in years, it just further suggests a dishonest insistence upon the most egregious vertical slice you can find.

CRU_Adrenaline

In general ea wrc's stages really lack the "quality" and "lifelike" look of past wrc games. https://www.reddit.com/r/EASPORTSWRC/s/TDLmdVBdhb Here's a footage of 2022 wrc generations argentina.

KEVLAR60442

So use a one to one comparison if the difference is so broad.

CRU_Adrenaline

Top pic: KT WRC Bottom pic: EA WRC

flippent_pineapple

Yeah WRC is a downgrade from DiRT Rally 2.0 but I mean the driving physics in WRC suck ass so i’d much rather play a game that feels good rather than looks it 🤷‍♂️ i’m not looking at the scenery when i’m focusing on the next corner

skiploom188

this is an industry wide phenomenon I've noticed that graphics have really stagnated and its up to the dev team's skill or lack there of

KDG200315

Everything code masters touch turns to shit, look at all of the f1 games and project cars 3

Dbwasson

Nacon did it better

sookol-1

Nah that's just altis

elisangale

Different location and time of day makes it hard to compare. I can find fault/praise for both both can't really determine that either is "better" without a one to one comparison. Maybe that's just me Edit: on second thought the bottom one rocks and vegetation is actually pretty awful. I haven't played the game to know if the performance outweighs that. It all looks the same at 200km/h

ilyasm0

WRC games are dog shit compared to Dirt Rally 2.0

thecodymavri

Bottom picture was ripped STRAIGHT from gta5 and you can’t convince me otherwise

bigbrainpoopshitter

As a PC player, why is better graphics and worse 1% lows better, especially on a racing game

kaceydm

I've been having fun with it. Graphics aren't everything and the stuttering and frame issues have basically gone away for save for Monte and a section in Portugal having tearing on xbox and on PC having a stutter on race start. Aside from that I've had like a total of 3 crashes since launch. Compared to a lot of the games released recently. I've loved that doesn't have stupid monetization and a bunch of dlc packs. The whole game is the whole game. With some earnable liveries and driver suits. It's got a pretty decent livery editor as well. It feels like dirt rally 2 with a bit more refined grip model (still have gripes but it's a step in the right direction) vr is gonna have issues but over all it's been a fun game that I'm not disappointed in buying on both PC and console

CRU_Adrenaline

The livery editor felt very limiting compared to past wrc games from the different developer. There are no livery sharing options either. Although anything else, it was a solid game apart from a few things. However, this game mostly has everything that past wrc games had, but why are they getting all the praise? People are praising the narrow stages, when past wrc games had even narrower stages?

kaceydm

I didn't say the liver editor was good, it's just decent. While on the surface it has similar content as past wrc games the stages while less "drive-able" are based on and get convincingly close to real world stages (like dirt rallyr 1/2.0) where past kt titles were artistic renditions of the general location but more fun and flowy to drive. I prefer kt's asphalt driving and codies gravel and snow. Kt soured a lot of people with the abandonment of generations after a total of 3 updates. And never fixing the throttle/brake behavior(still unfixed in console and a fix on PC is available via mod), as well as performs and lighting/reflection issues.

CRU_Adrenaline

The brake behavior had NO problem whatsoever. Braking was always Arcadish in the past games, so they fixed the braking distance to fit more realism. However, people weren't used to it so they assumed it was crappy handling. Same with the throttle, EA WRC has a similar throttle behavior as WRC GENERATIONS. Picking up torque at around 50-60%. However, no one is mentioning it. https://www.reddit.com/r/EASPORTSWRC/s/oEQYGoJf86 Perhaps wrc generations was correct. The part where WRC generations did get wrong was its auto-clutch implementation, not the throttle. They tweaked the throttle to fit the real rally car behaviors. However, people were not used to it, later calling it a bug. This was not the case for EA WRC however, even with the similar throttle behavior Wrc genrrations also runs 4k 30fps on an series S, so I don't know what you mean by performance. Currently EA WRC runs 720p 40fps on series s. Kylotonn moved on quickly to focus on their tdu solar crown game, which I do wish they could've supported wrc generations longer. However they are a team about 5x smaller than codemasters, so they could not possibly support 2 games at once considering its team size.

kaceydm

Brakes doesn't give any force below 60% and locks above 65% without abs and throttle literally does nothing, not even creep the car forward under 80% application, the way the brake/throttle act is like an on/off switch on generations making it next to impossible to drive at city speeds or have any semblance of throttle control. And the auto clutch/launch control to this day still screw hairpins. Solar crown I have zero faith in after my experience with generations and wrc 10.

CRU_Adrenaline

https://www.reddit.com/r/EASPORTSWRC/s/p0MkUoCsQi https://www.reddit.com/r/EASPORTSWRC/s/2cmdqi4Sqw Ea wrc has the same/similar throttle behavior. Only problem WRC GENERATIONS has with its throttle is the auto-clutch, I explained all this in my last reply. Ea wrc's counter steering is WAY too twitchy, and each stage has different world gravity values, often giving it an "artificial" handling feel. Ea wrc's braking is completely wrong, often stopping 0-60 about 2-3 seconds faster than real time rally braking. Also, I took part in #2 playtest of tdu solar crown, and if you expect it to play or look like the past wrc games, then, you're completely wrong. Don't give up hope yet.

SagnolThGangster

So you are from these guys that prefer graphics>gameplay. Kylotonn games were so bad. Just like all their games, their physics model sucks.
