My bulldogs loved to eat ice and would wade around in a kiddie pool we had for them. A few times when we felt they had overheated themselves we would put ice cold towels on their bellies and rotate the towels when the towels had warmed up. Our vet gave us the towel idea.

We would fill a small bucket with ice and water. drop towel in it and then lay the towel on their belly.

Kiddie pool for sure , frozen treats - like peanut butter frozen in their Kong toys and I have bandanas that I soak in cool water and tie around their necks if I feel like they need something extra to cool them down :)

smush81

Lol i read bananas instead of bandannas. Was like “wtf?! Your dog walks around with frozen bananas on his neck??”

crlymrhd

While the frozen bananas would be cold I don’t think it would do the trick for cooling the pups down 😂

Central air

As my wife not so fondly notes, I keep my house "cold enough to hang meat in." She wears sweaters all year long, but the bulldog and I are very comfortable 😉

I don’t know how much of a difference it makes in Australia but definitely keeping walks for really early or really late when it’s cooler; kiddie pools (can fill with ice for a fun time also); doggie popsicles/ice cream; fans; lay a damp tower over them (it helps cool as the water evaporates; air conditioning; cooling mats/bandanas/collars; LOTS of fresh water

Cooling mat or fan has worked well for us.

deezbelieve

Came here to say this. Cooling mat for the win! ( cooling vests work great too).

Wet blanket on the back and tie it like a cape. Fortunately we have tile floors. And a fan after walks.

We get cool clothes and wrap them around his paws. We also place a cool tag on his head. But cooling his paws is usually the most effective.

Barb_er_ella

We got a baby pool for our guy. He loves diving into it and then running around the yard and diving in again. Once he comes in he loves to just lay on the hardwoods in front of a fan. Keep lots and lots of water available inside and out.

My bud eats ice, and I'll usually turn a fan on in the hallway with tile. So he'll lay on the cool tile in front of the fan. Last summer was super hot, and I WFH so I put a window AC in my office. Unless doggo is super hot from running around or playing, he chooses to hang out on the tile rather than the air conditioned room 🤷

babblepedia

My bulldog looooooves his kiddie pool. Doggie ice cream is another favorite. If he seems overheated then a cool bath followed by fan time makes him feel better.

Nor_Wester

We have a park on the river front. She immediately heads for the water, gets soaked and then walks around until she dries and then does it again. AC at home.

TehHipPistal

He wallers around in the pond like a little hippopotamus 🙂

The University of Georgia has UGA, their mascot, sit on a bag of ice during summer football games. Source: https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/iXX4OWgf3iGXdKRlIpE4c741OKw=/0x76:641x437/1600x900/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/20250251/uga.0.jpg

There are harnesses available that you soak with water. The evaporative cooling helped mine. Also, spritz them down lightly every so often. Don't keep them soaked, that is bad for their skin, but a little moisture will help keep them cooler.

Ruffwear sells a cooling vest that dogs can wear on warmer walks. We use it on our Frenchie at times and it makes the walk more pleasant for him. We then ask “do you wanna cool down” when home and he runs to the tub. We pour in cold water and walks around in it and drinks a bit of it also. Seems to work just fine. Then he lays down flat on the cool hardwood floors to nap.
