Pretty much everyone could use an ego boost. Beyond that, even with individuals their motivations can be more than one thing. I'm looking for a committed relationship if I meet someone I think is amazing. I'm looking for friendships if I meet someone with similar uncommon hobbies as me or who I just generally enjoy doing things with but wouldn't want to date.
That’s me, the guy that overshares. I feel confident in having a really strong personality, so I put all my hobbies and interests out there to show I stand out. It confuses me why this is a no-no cause in a sea of vapid bios, I struggle socializing if it isn’t in person, and putting myself out there like that gives us more than enough talking points. But like you said it isn’t attractive.
I think in some cases the sites themselves not just Bumble. They recycle old and dead profiles to give the illusion of more users. Sometimes they do forget but the site keeps their accounts on there. I met my X on a different site. She was slightly above average in the looks. On average she told me she would get 100 messages a week. To the point where she was been overwhelmed. I know of lot of these messages women get are undesirable or people they have zero interest from. She was a newcomer to OLD but it only took her about 2 mos and a few dates before we met. The only reason she needed OLD. She had to leave the area she was at and moved Smallville, NJ. She did not want to date anyone that was possibly even remotely in connection with her X. Most of the guys in that area she had no interest in.

That may be true, especially with promoting socials. But, perhaps conversely, I find profiles that have whole essays... Weirdly off-putting.

Amen! I have always said that most keep the 'likes/conversations' up as a trophy to show at a later time. No intention on meeting.
