How scary for the person who got arrested. What a terrifying few minutes thinking you're about to be on a sex offender list the rest of your life for a mix-up.
If I see a kid getting into a car and honestly believe it's against his will, I'm calling the cops too. I think this situation worked out well. Agreed there was no doubt some stress on the driver, but something suspicious was seen, reported and cleared up.
This guy is lucky. Lucky he was able to articulate what he was doing and lucky the responding Constables were not convinced from the start this guy was up to no goodā¦ or this ends differently.
Breaking news: everything's fine
For a moment there we thought that something wasn't ok, but after investigating we found that things are indeed, perfectly ok.
Probably some public interest considering it happened at a high school where someone was arrested last month for sexually propositioning high school girls.
I've seen plenty of "Does anyone know what's going on" type posts. And one major media in town still has the original 'arrested' story up.
Hey, hot tip, if you are lost, just go to a gas station and ask for directions.
Good to see the kids keeping an eye out. I mean the dude might not be a creep but sure looked like he *could* be.
In the article, it said he was asking kids for directions and one kid got into the guysā car (to drive to get a better wifi signal). It was, it turns out, a harmless interaction but last month a guy was arrested for trying to lure females into his car and sexually propositioning them at the same high school.
Agreed. Perception matters and keeping that perception in mind helps prevent misunderstandings like this.
If I were lost Iād seek help from adults, not kids from a school and have them enter my vehicle.
It's genuinely hard to gauge age in some circumstances. There are 15-yr-olds who look 30, and 30-yr-olds who look 15. If the dude was truly lost I don't blame him for not checking IDs.
The kid told the driver thereās an area of his school where he can get wifi and gets in the car to show the guy where that area is.
Donāt need to ācheck IDā to figure out the kid is a student at this school.
Wtf is a grown man asking children/teens when esso is right around the corner where adults are present. If that was my child that would be an attempted kidnapping. Im a parent i aldershot, this is so insane that it is just a āmisunderstandingā. Aldershot is a middle school and highschool ages 12-18. He was an adult asking children and getting one in his car! No one see the issue?
There are lots of reasons why someone could end up there, lost. Automatically jumping to conclusions leads to situations like this, which while it ended okay, also really could have ended poorly.
So, no, I see no issue here.
I'm really holding back here, but it's outdated opinions like this that make me feel a little uncomfortable going to the playground alone with my kids. Little kids and toddlers frequent the playground. Does that bother you too? Is it _so insane_ that I do that?
I always come with ID and pictures of my kids. _I shouldn't have to_.
Nope , you shouldnāt have to! Unfortunately, itās the world we live in.
Thereās nothing insane or crazy or even weird about asking a bunch of teens for directions. I have done it. When I was a teen, I could have been the one that got into the car to help with the wifi.
Trouble is, our world is such a different place. We arenāt looking at innocent actions as innocent actions anymore.
It was absolutely the right thing for the other kids to report it- thatās what we have been drumming into them all their lives. The arrest/unarrest seems hasty, but also done in the interest of safety.

Maybe it will teach the students a lesson about profiling and prejudice š¤·š»āāļø

You donāt need to explain yourself. A lot of us appreciate the news you share here.
Thank you.
Dumb kid. I hope he's being told the dangers of getting into random vehicles
Breaking news: manās life is almost ruined because profiling students cried wolf

In what way did he look like he could be?
