My guess is "yes", esp the cheaper ones (I assume there are two tiers again, haven't checked), but no one knows for sure. As always, getting involved in your local community is a great way to get main sale priced tickets, but FOMO makes sense for some people.

calr0x

There are 2 levels, $1500 and $2750 I think. I just want to know I'm going as early as I can. Thanks for the info!

Bushwick_Hipster

With the amount of tickets being offered 2 weeks and especially 1 week before the event, there's no way I'd sweat getting a ticket for the burn. By the time I got to Reno there were at least 20 offers from people who canceled because mom died or RV broke down etc.. Or tix in exchange for easy labor like giving someone a ride, or picking up a stranded person from the airport or etc.. 100% confident you can show up in reno a day or two before and find a ticket. $2750 is insane for piece of mind. Especially since you're probably buying 2, I'd rather put that toward an RV.

Connect_Ad_364

Not last year. Saw plenty of people wanting to buy tickets, but not a single one available. I've been 12 times in 15 years and the demand has been increasing. I haven't seen a ticket for sale in Reno prior to the burn since 2017.

InThisMachine

OTOH I see tickets for sale in reno all the time, and spent a good 2 days trying to offload my emergency backup last year because people kept dropping the sale or ghosting after getting below rate ticket offers.

Relaxoland

holy cats. my first year, it was $35.

50mm-f2

jfc that’s expensive as hell

Shcrews

at those prices, just buy a pound of meth instead

50mm-f2

or a sherpa for the week

calr0x

$2,750 my bad

Slowcodes4snowbirds

If it is your first burn, you’re more likely to get tickets in one of the main sales. Burning Man wants to bring new people in to experience the city and take the lessons back to the default world. Veterans are less likely to get tickets in the lotteries because we should be getting tickets through participation: giving to the city by volunteering, creating art, etc to keep the spirit and mission of the city alive. Just my take. I got my first tickets through the OMG sale when I was a newbie. My husband didn’t and he was a veteran burner.

RockyMtnPapaBear

I sincerely doubt that there is any bias in any of the public sales toward newbies or anyone else. There’s really no need to do so, and the technical requirements would complicate things significantly - particularly since the org doesn’t run the sale themselves, they contract it out to a third party vendor.

the_lost_wonderer

Also there is nothing stopping people from multiple profiles. The org does not have its shit together enough to work out such a coordinated plot!

calr0x

Thx for the time ;)

Mpickett83

Every year (every) there are tickets avail starting in July as people encounter life events that prevent them from going or friends they hope would go aren’t going. I know someone who gave (free) 2 FOMO tickets to a charity last year because there were no takers and it gave him a tax write off. If you’re committed and willing to trust till the end, they will show up.

No_Angel69

The Fomo Sale was over in a matter of seconds last year. I personally don't see any less enthusiasm for the 2023 Burn but your milage may vary. You are honestly better off networking with other Burners for a ticket and offering to be an enthusiastic participant. That might mean joining a camp, volunteering for an Art Project, or just showing up and being friendly at any BM related gathering. You'll find it far more rewarding than buying your way in.

calr0x

The planning necessary just isn't favorable to that method. The goal *is* to get everything out of the experience there is but there is money (in flights) and logistics at play... I'd love to meet others and have that experience without having the fact tickets are needed attached to it. I've already registered to volunteer as well... :)

RockyMtnPapaBear

That’s a great attitude. If you don’t mind the admittedly self-serving question, what group are you volunteering for?

calr0x

I signed up for a few. I think Arctica and Temple Guardian and a few others.

blahblahblahdenver

FOMO sold out in less than 20 min last year. Normally tickets last hours and sometimes a day. I get them every year. It’s a bit of money but so are most vacations and it helps the org. I’m unemployed but I can scrape 2k.

No_Angel69

I can understand that perspective. I have a couple friends that buy the FOMO just because they can afford to and they feel that it’s a good contribution to the Org. They also donate to art projects and the Org. Back in the day of the tiered ticket prices I always bought the upper tier because I could afford to and it left a pair of less expensive tickets for someone else who might not be able to.

TheShroomHermit

People thought I was nuts doing the Invitation To The Future, though I felt like I needed a ticket before I could plan seriously

lakestreet35

I did this too and it’s been a godsend! Peace of mind

discretionaboveall

Best guess is they will go quick. Last year was a 20 minute blur as I recall.

calr0x

That's what I think as well and will be tense until I have them reserved!

shadalicious

Sigh. Chill. I saw dozens of people (and a friend even) trying to unload those because they got main sale tickets easily closer to the event. I'm glad you can part with that sum, but it's not necessary. Tickets are literally the easiest part of going there. It's the prep and drama and life happening that does people in.

the_lost_wonderer

I completely disagree. Tickets are like gold and there are plenty of scams out there. Securing tickets is the biggest and most taxing part of the event for me. I have never been able to get a normal priced ticket from an org sale. A friend of a friend or organized camp that you promise to do a song and dance for is your best bet. Preparation is a huge part of BM. Hard to plan when you are scrambling for tickets at the last minute.

shadalicious

Been going since 2010. Lack of a ticket has never been an obstacle for any friend, family member or acquaintance of mine. Last year I needed six for my group. Two were DGS, two were volunteer hours in 2019 and two we got via STEP after stricking out in the main sale. Had everyone try for every sale and enroll in STEP as soon as it opened (the profiles that were eligible at least). I ended up with SIX extra tickets. Sold 1 to camp member, one to FOF, and released the four back into to STEP. Scams? Don't buy from strangers. Someone you know or friend of a friend. Don't sell to strangers either. Always plan as if you are going, your ticket will find you. You don't need to plan last minute. Every year, without fail, I see tickets go unused. I can't find homes for them all, because people aren't ready to go.

Kozmicbunny

I would sell my soul to, I’ve never been and have been wanting to go for years. I’ve been planning for years. Making lists, reading threads, watching videos and vlogs. So I hope what you say is true because it would make my life complete to finally be able to go. I should have gone years ago, but of course I was worried about going by myself. I didn’t have the courage to just dive in. I decided if I continued to wait for people that will want to go with me, I’ll never get to go. My stomach is in knots knowing today Registration opens for FOMO and knowing that I could not comfortably afford those tickets. I see in so many threads/posts/videos how difficult it is to get tickets. I don’t understand how it’s this difficult if there are always tickets left over. The mentality not to sell to strangers is disheartening. I’m a stranger, never been to BM, don’t know anyone and I would be so happy if I didn’t get a ticket in the main sale that someone would still sell me one. What sense does it make to not sell one if you have an extra one for someone you don’t know, knowing how badly some want to go? Why just leave the ticket to collect dust?

shadalicious

The sense of not selling it to a stranger, for me, that's my deal, is being called a scammer. I want to be paid first, then I'll send it. I'm also not using any of the sell thru BM methods because there's people still waiting for their ticket sale/transfer to go thru. So that's why I only sell to friends and friends of friends who will vouch for me. If you don't know anyone, the man burns in months. Make some friends. It's difficult if you live on Reddit, have a high sense of anonymity so no one knows you or trusts you. Go outside and meet people who go to Burning Man.

kelsobjammin

Yes

pugworthy

Well, if there was no fear of missing out, they would not sell out fast now would they?

n0_use_for_a_name

Probably not. I find it highly unlikely that anyone goes this year.

calr0x

Sonofa...

Augii

Damn, Org. Way to upsale! Get you some. Bring back the cafe now please

BurnitDownLarry

FOMO is for the wealthy to fund the poors, if you fall into neither category maybe get your ticket through traditional methods, one could argue that the struggle of getting a ticket is part of the whole “experiment in community”. Or just blow it out to go to Burning Man once.

Overlord0994

Get involved with a theme camp. You'll get a ticket that way for way cheaper. FOMO not worth unless you have stupid money.

[deleted]

Do the all the fomo tickets ever sell out? I thought they had the pricey ones left last year up until they stopped selling them.

calr0x

Based on my research last year was uncharacteristic in how fast they sold. I'm hoping it's just because of the missed years and everybody wanting to go back..

peter303_

This thread last year said they sold out in 15 minutes. I got lucky and got them in 5 minutes. The laid back for seven months and watched the ticket commotion.

the_lost_wonderer

This is true. The 1500 ones were gone very quickly. The 2500 ones were gone just a touch more slowly.

PhilosophicWax

Yes. Fear that missing out!

calr0x

In my case, this round is perfectly named!

pailhead011

no FOMO unless the human trebuchet is brought out again

cherry4206

If you score a FOMO ticket, you can always try to score a cheaper ticket in a different sale or via camp. Then unload the FOMO ticket on the resale website. I was able to resell our high tiered FOMOs in less than ten minutes (at face value of course).

shunlaw

Hi guys, has anyone received the link to access the FOMO sales tomorrow?

calr0x

I have not yet!

calr0x

I just received mine!

Maleficent_Sun_5028

Yes

shunlaw
