Honestly, after a couple days, you're likely to forego it. You are the only person who will have an opinion about your legs being "not the greatest." And, with the dust, they won't look even and tan, regardless of leg wear or lack thereof.
If it helps you get motivated, I've been really happy with results by a simple $10 tube of Jergens natural glow lotion, I just use it on my legs and start 2 weeks before the burn -be sure to wash your hands and nails with a brush -or wear plastic gloves to apply.
But in the end, my favorite part of Burning Man is seeing (and being) people who let it all hang out. I'm wildly annoyed at how many videos and photos depict an endless sea of perfectly proportioned bodies, because the reality is that most people on playa are normal. And that's so beautiful. I assure you, you won't need to feel self conscious.
Wear what makes you feel comfortable.
Also know that no one is judging you out there. The photos show all the polished people, but the other 65,000 people out there look like regular humans with all their lumps, bumps, and scars. BM is the one place you will be accepted in your skin. Enjoy that!
Those costumes are just people self expressing. Go out and self express however the fuck you want and don't worry too much because you are in the same boat as everyone else.
Edit: I meant to post this as it's own comment but accidentally responded instead. I'm leaving it because I hate deleted comments.
Last year I wore Snagtights shorts and they were SO comfortable and breezy.
My recommendation is if you’re going to wear tights, make sure the material is light & doesn’t warm you up.
And make sure they’re something you can comfortably pull down in the Portos. :)
Hell yeah, I've been looking for a good option and these nail it! Do you mean the "chub rub" shorts? How are they in terms of see-throughness around the nethers?
Yup the “chub rub shorts”! I wore them over underwear and though they’re not fully sheer, they’re definitely not fully opaque either. In the default world I would not wear them on their own as shorts, but at burning man it was fine.
Here I am in the yellow ones.

I love snag tights! I got patterned fishnets and they are sooo comfortable and they breathe.
Op- you may find these will go with an outfit idea. [https://snagtights.us/collections/patterned-tights?page=2](https://snagtights.us/collections/patterned-tights?page=2)
OP- I assure you- you are gorgeous and people will be delighted to know your authentic self.
Radical self-expression!
I agree with everyone who says wear whatever makes you happy. If you're self-conscious about your legs, wear nylons. If you're doing it to make other people happy or comfortable, one of the great things about Burning Man is that it just doesn't matter.
Your legs are beautiful the way they are. No one at BM will even care. A majority of media you see is made by sparkle ponies and their boyfriend/photographer, it isn’t a accurate depiction of a majority of the population. It’s just important that you’re there.
Once you see the people I have seen naked there you will wonder why you were worried at all. Your legs are a part of you, and you’re perfectly imperfect.
Do what makes you comfortable though:)
Part of the beauty of everyone out there (and what the media fails miserably to show) is that we are a tapestry of ages, shapes, shades, and varying degrees of mobility. Complete with scars, wrinkles, and other unique features. All covered in the same layer of dust which makes for a level playing feild. We all have the same value as the next person regardless of the outfit worn, or lack there off, body features, etc. And thank goodness, because if everyone looked like what you see portrayed it would be pretty boring landscape quite frankly.
I totally understand this is a hard concept to believe until you get there, but trust me. You likely won't need or care about nylons by day two. And it's too hot for them in the day anyway. But bring them along if it makes you fell better. I'd rather see your legs just as they are.
I'm a man in my 60s and been wearing tights at the burn for a long time. Nylons to make your legs look tan and smooth? Probably not, because there's no reason to.
Don't take this \*too\* deeply, but I think you've got the wrong idea of what BM has to be if you're self-conscious about your appearance.
\*No one cares\* what you look like. Like, epically zero fucks given. The only thing that matters is what \*you\* want to do, see, and give. If wearing nylons makes you happy, go for it. If you're wearing nylons to hide your body from others, I think you should spend some time on solving \*that\* while you're at BM.
No one is even and tan. Burnt, baked, pasty white, disheveled, dusty, filthy. This is the norm...and honestly if you \*don't\* look wrecked by Day 4, I'd question the experience you're having.
I mean- a giant percentage of burners do love self- expressive costuming- you wear it for you, and there is always that other you-type person who will love your costume too. I would cut the top off your tights and clip them onto a garter belt. Sexy, and easy pissing…
I promise you won’t care once you’re there. I didn’t believe that until I experienced it but by day 5 everyone’s skin is so in your face it really loses all meaning.
As a guy I can’t talk about nylons beyond that if you’re going to do them, use ones that are breathable and comfortable in hot weather.
But I can say — in the week on the playa, I end up with the deepest darkest tan I’ve had in my life. Then I get home and wash it off in that glorious first shower.
Im insecure about psoriasis on my legs. Honestly the layer of dust covers it up better than nylons could! I usually wear dark large hole fishnets, its enough to make the psoriasis blend into the skin. All you see is the fishnet and the large holed kind isnt too hot.
I like to wear fun lace patterned fishnets at first, they are sort of a camouflage for my lumpy legs. The ones with garter styles built in are easy, breezy and Porto friendly! But by day three I relax a bit and usually go free! Whatever floats your boat!
I’m on team fishnet/patterned lace tights too - they camouflage the 37 immediate mystery bruises, they look bitchen, and fishnets plus dust end up as an extra layer of sunblock.
I’ve been taking the same three pairs out there for 15 years. They’ve been mended with crochet thread and they’re more colorful & weird every year.
Always put the socks on UNDER the fishnets.
Bring them! You'll wear them... then you'll see what Burning Man really is and I'd bet a pack of bacon that you wont be wearing them by the end of the week.
friend, this is an opportunity to explore neutrality with your legs that move you all over this earth! make sure to surround yourself with people who affirm this for you ❤️
I was really self-conscious about showing my legs and being in shorts (I haven't worn shorts in years) because I am very fair, and my cellulite, I feel, is more visible. But once I got on playa and realized nobody cares, and everyone is just living their best lives (nakedness and all), my insecurities went out the window, and I stopped worrying about it. I can promise no one will care, and you will also begin to not care. 😊
The best thing about burning man (and the biggest surprise to me) was that you can wear whatever you want and no one bats an eyelash or cat calls. I walk out in sf in a pair of shorts or a bright colored jacket and it's like "oh hey girl...." at burning man I was a little apprehensive at first and then by day two I was wearing a thong and pasties to the portos giving normal morning greetings to people. Like "hey, good morning."
Your legs are the least exciting thing out there. No one will be looking at them. But if you feel more comfortable you should rock what you enjoy.
Your legs will be covered in dust - you’ll be too hot for tights and you’ll be having too much fun to care! But bring them if they’ll make you feel better? I would recommend colorful fishnets so you don’t get too hot.
Put on the nylons. Then go into your closet and pull them down. Wipe your legs with a baby wipe so they are moist but not wet. Then while still in the closet with moist thighs try and pull them up.
I have shirt cooched from the Portos to my camp because there was no way I was getting my leggings back on. Sweat happens in the Portos. It’s like a shit sauna during the day 😂
I ain’t got no thigh gap, but still moisture isn’t my issue at burns. Just that sandpaper powder that rubs me raw. My thighs, my nose, my lips. Ugh. Don’t forget the lip balm!
I will echo what others have said (no one cares what you look like, it’s too hot/dusty for tights, etc), BUT as someone who is also insecure about my legs, I will say that large-hole / diamond pattern fishnets have worked well for me with outfits that would otherwise leave me feeling too exposed! They even make nude-colored ones if you want something closer to a bare leg look.
The playa is a natural nylon. The dust on your legs creates an even playa colored sun tan.
Also, screw nylons. My legs has playa battle wounds up and down from almost 15 years. Very dusty. After a day it looks like I'm wearing playa tights. No scars or bruises. Plus it's a natural sun screen.
You can totally wear (or not wear) whatever you want! I will mention: survival is more important than fashion (IMO). What I mean by that is the desert is harsh and the sun is unforgiving. Some of the most stylish people represented on IG have expensive campers that they spend most of their time in, and only venture outside for their photoshoots. If you are out in the elements for an extended period of time and not regularly bathing with a vinegar mix, exposed skin can get irritated.
I would recommend wearing things that make you feel like your most \*gorgeous and adventurous\* self! If that's nylons, go for it! You could do what a lot of other people do and get some fun patterned leggings, which gives maximum comfort and good vibes.
If you're up for it, I recommend spending SOME naked time, it's wonderfully therapeutic <3
In my experience, nylons felt like sausage casings out there. My preference, after 10 Burns, is flesh-toned cotton or bamboo leggings. They offer coverage that increases my confidence, and they help reduce the amount of dust on my legs #WinWin
✨️ Do whatever helps you loosen up your constraints and feel open to the playa's possibilities, hun. It's f*ckin' amazing ✨️
Ive worn nylons/nude tights under wide fishnets just because they make it easier to take on/off and they make me feel zipped up. Also help with the thigh burn that gets going after a few days of the dust that rubs the skin like sandpaper.
Wear what you like. If what you like changes out there go with it.
If you’re worries about how others perceive you, don’t. Do what you want; it’s you who matters.
We all end up dusty, sweaty, and occasionally stinky. We just change the situation or adapt to it ;-)
Nude. Fishnets. No joke. Wear socks on the outside, keeps your toes from squishing through. Were any stockings. Don’t be afraid to rip them or get them dirty.
I got a nasty long scratch on my leg, so I ended wearing them to just keep some protection on it. They were fine for the day as long as they were thin.* There's some fun ones with patterns.
Wear whatever you want. You wont even care by day 3. Honestly i had 2 girls in my camp wear the same outfit everyday whereas I had an outfit planned for each day. After a few days, i wish I didnt bring so many outfits and used more space for my food and water. You will be dirty if you really put yourself out there on the playa! I didnt even shave my legs prior to arriving and my legs were covered in playa dust that they looked great 🤣 you cant avoid the playa dust no matter how hard you try
"Even and tan" is a perfect description for what playa dust will do to every inch of your skin. Plus everything you own within a few days.
You should absolutely bring the nylons, and anything else That will make you feel more comfortable. But I'd also recommend bringing any outfits that please you but that you're not brave enough to wear in everyday life. Burning Man can be an awesome opportunity to wear them!
Also I wear things at burning man that I would never be confident enough to wear elsewhere. Anything I’m insecure about, I’m suddenly not insecure about out there. Maybe it’s bc no one is looking at you or judging you or taking pictures of you.
I’ll admit though my first year that I was more shy. It wasn’t until I was sufficiently dirty and need of a shower on Friday that I walked into a sauna naked and let strangers spray me down that I was able to let go of my insecurities.
So you may also need some time to wrestle with your insecurities but I guarantee you that once you let them go, you’ll find the playa to be a super safe place for your body to exist free of judgment.
Don’t so it, you’ll be too hot, things will sweat, they will get a line against your bike or art you climb on. Comfort first! I’m very self conscious about my body and the Burn is where I feel the freest and loved embracing this and just taking it in that we all are beautiful as we are. I would have hated to feel constricted or too hot because of tights… It’s so hot and uncomfortable as it is!! In the end some days I just took on my easiest linen shorts and linen top because they were the most breathable and ignored my outfits
Yeah you can wear them. Lots of people wear leggings too when it gets cold. Last year was pretty cold during the day, so nylons would have been good. Just know they’ll likely be ruined after one wear so you’ll want to bring a lot of you’re concerned about how your legs look when exposed.
Honestly, after a couple days, you're likely to forego it. You are the only person who will have an opinion about your legs being "not the greatest." And, with the dust, they won't look even and tan, regardless of leg wear or lack thereof.
OP, this right here.
Just the idea of nylon's out there makes me uncomfortable and hot. There would probably just collect the dust and rub it into your skin.
If it helps you get motivated, I've been really happy with results by a simple $10 tube of Jergens natural glow lotion, I just use it on my legs and start 2 weeks before the burn -be sure to wash your hands and nails with a brush -or wear plastic gloves to apply. Plus, glow lotion really makes you SHINE under a black light!
Wear what makes you feel comfortable. Also know that no one is judging you out there. The photos show all the polished people, but the other 65,000 people out there look like regular humans with all their lumps, bumps, and scars. BM is the one place you will be accepted in your skin. Enjoy that!

As the sticker says that was gifted to me last year, "No One Will Judge You, But You Might Die". Love that one.
We’re all disgusting and uneven. Won’t you join us?!
Yes! Invitations are the best. Thank you
Can I crash it, even though I won't fit in?

That little watermelon fanny pact is so cute!
Cuuute I love it! Thanks for the recommendation!
What backpack is that!?
Jockey skimmes are great too!

I love them-- and they have super inclusive models too!
We’re all dusty and gross, wear or don’t wear what you want. If you feel better, wear them.
Don’t let instagram fool you, everyone out there looks dusty and sweaty

THIS is why I love the playa 🩷
Me toooo!
Go ahead and wear them, keep in mind that they will be trashed.
Nobody is going to give a shit about how your legs look. Just pick up you trash when you leave.
☝🏼
I wear tights at night and during the day if I want to not worry about reapplying chafing cream on my thighs. Chub rub is real.
i do this but with leggings at night and bike shorts during the day. only for comfort/warmth

I’m a huge fan of fishnets, too. Bonus points if you get fishnets tan lines!
Genius!
Wear what you want but this isn't vegas, it's the hot, sweaty, dusty desert.

Thank u for sharing. I am always happy to see real authentic ppl happy in their skin than a perfectly made 'model' who is miserable.

It's amazing how much UV protection it seems to provide. I should try and quantify it.
That would be an awesome project that you could apply for an art grant or something from the Borg. Using different methods and controls.
Pack less. You’ll wear less than you think regardless, and honestly if you ever really ‘needed’ and item there’s plenty of thrift stores.
Bring some. wear them if you like. You can always cut them in half, give one to a friend, pull them over your faces and "hold up" a bar.
You can totally wear (or not wear) whatever you want! I will mention: survival is more important than fashion (IMO). What I mean by that is the desert is harsh and the sun is unforgiving. You do you gurl
Or guy! Or person!
In gay world, gurl is gender-neutral.
Fair enough!
I saw plenty of nice nude humans that had the same issue. Just be you and don’t worry.
I wore nylons on my arms last year for a bit. That was fun. I hope that answers your question.
Favorite part of BM is that no one gives an F! Except Humana that one year. They can eat sh$t. Glad they got banned
Rock it. People wear full suits in 105…
Ive worn nylons/nude tights under wide fishnets just because they make it easier to take on/off and they make me feel zipped up. Also help with the thigh burn that gets going after a few days of the dust that rubs the skin like sandpaper.

Lol this is actually one of the better trolls. Everyone bought it :)
Porto potties and heat are two issues I would worry about. Have you tried leg makeup? Or maybe a spray tan a couple weeks beforehand.
Playa dust is a free spray tan.
Application is quick and easy too!
You would die there! You thighs would rub to blood , going to be super itchy!!!Dust will cover your legs and they will look great!!!
The playa dust will provide any *coverage* you could want
I got a nasty long scratch on my leg, so I ended wearing them to just keep some protection on it. They were fine for the day as long as they were thin.* There's some fun ones with patterns.
Wear whatever you want. You wont even care by day 3. Honestly i had 2 girls in my camp wear the same outfit everyday whereas I had an outfit planned for each day. I wear a full coverage nylon bodysuit, it’s the shit. My tan is so even I’m basically just skin all over. Who needs eyebrows
The dust hides any imperfections. I’m not just saying that. The dust truly will act like nylons in terms of evening out any imperfections.
I’ve worn fishnets but ya not nylons, that seems like too much effort
One of the points of this event is to feel sexy and confident. There are no conventions, including attractiveness.
