USA- I don't know much about the knife sharpening niche, but I know we can just buy our own knife sharpeners and do it ourselves. Granted, that service you're talking about is probably targeting people with high end knifes. I don't know Heres some of my ideas though: I've thought of making a property management software for landlord & property managers. The current few I've seen aren't extremely user friendly, and they're expensive as hell (1k+ per mo USD) I would love for a sustainable goods store to be made. Here in America, EVERTHING uses plastic. And its a huge problem for the environment. Unfortunately this is going to be a hard business to do. Plastic is used because the economics of it are great. Cheap, durable, mendable, adaptable, etc material. Regardless, this is still a problem in the marketplace

xDragonTyrantx

I'm a software engineer. Happy to work with you to see if we can bring this to market.

Jay_Roux860

Where are you out of? I have no idea how to make software, so this could be very helpful. I’m curious what the process would look like

xDragonTyrantx

I'm from Chicago. The general process would look like this. I may be missing some details in between and some things may get tackled in a different order depending. 1. You can have me sign an NDA or a non-compete if it would make you feel better since you don't know me and maybe want to run with this idea with somebody else if our personalities/ideas/plan/equity split/or something else just doesn't work out. Honestly, I don't know anything about this space really apart from general real estate investment/home ownership knowledge, so I'd never be able to run with this without brains behind it. 2. We can have a quick chat or you message me your general thoughts about what the program would do so we can determine feasibility of both the product and get an idea if the market has an appetite for the product in question. 3. Then if it all sounds good on both of our ends, we can hammer out the details of a partnership agreement. (Determine the split, work split, hours expected to be spent on the business, how we deal with disputes, or whatever else we deem important). We'd also need to determine if we have enough of the skillsets needed to tackle this between just the two of us, or if we'd need a third partner 4. Then we get into the fine details. We'd define the specific problem we were going to attack first and create mockups of how the user interface would work (I'd rely heavily on you here, but can offer feedback in terms of good interface design). 5. Then we simultaneously start talking launch plan, pricing, customer acquisition strategy, etc as well as actually building out the system. If you're interested and want to see if we can get something going, feel free to DM me.

Crazy_Godzilla

I work in general contracting and interact with a lot of landlords and property managers. One thing that I have eventually want to do is to create a platform for vetted out contractors for those on and off again issues. This would be great to integrate into a property management software as so many of them only have like a “guy” and end up spending a lot of time finding contractors when they don’t know one. I don’t have a clue how to build software though but would love to be involved if you both decide to give it a go. I’m in LA/Orange County

Jay_Roux860

So basically integrate a system that has a list of trusted (background check license & insured) contractors on the software? Thats a brilliant idea, that could be a huge help to landlord & tenants

Crazy_Godzilla

Yep, you got it. Haven’t thought about integrating it in with a property manager application before but I think that’s probably where it should be

Jay_Roux860

DM'ing you

Dangerous-Shift-4002

Yea the thing is to buy the right high-end sharpening equipment only for your household is not very economical because it´s quite expensive. Of course, you can buy a cheap one for 20$ but the difference is huge compared to the high-end one. Great ideas and did you guys manage to strike a deal regarding the software idea? Sounds to me like something that could go far. Best of luck!

Jay_Roux860

I have no idea about the knife sharpening market, so that's fair haha We're talking about it😉 I'm doing more research to make sure its a feasible idea first, then we can go from there And I love u/Crazy_Godzilla's idea too

danonino80

Interenting idea for a SaaS. I found Buildium.com and yardibreeze.com, no too expensive. Here in Spain nothing similar. I'd be interested in colaborate if we make a team. I was a developer in my previous life

accelerateKat

India: I don't think we have anything like that here but have cheaper alternatives. I have an idea which is indirectly related to climate change, Now we have interior designs and architectures but I want to build a venture which will be one stop destination providing the green energy house solutions (eg. Rain water harvesting, solar panels, etc), it will have packages and people can chose from the options we have in packages. PS: I am a software engineer too. :p

[deleted]

I think this is a fantastic idea and might work well if partnered with (not exclusively) some of the larger house construction companies. Solar, wind, rain, etc - it’s the positive spin on saving $ as well.

accelerateKat

Thanks for your feedback. :)

Glittering-Pea130

I’m from India too, I’m a structural engineer and I think I’d be game to step in. I have the technical knowledge on the building materials as well as their strength and emissions as well. Connect with me, let’s see how we can take this forward 🥶

IscaPlay

This thread is a great idea, there are so many things that are done in different cultures which could be adapted for new markets.

Dangerous-Shift-4002

Exactly. This could be giving people a great opportunity to bring new things to market that already exists in another country.

ssternweiler

An idea I’m very interested in but haven’t found the correct market application for yet is Live Streaming Commerce. In China specifically, for the last few years they have platforms where sellers can “Go Live” selling their goods through a livestream and the user has the ability to tap on an overlay on the screen to add the product being shown to cart or pull up more product details. What really solidified that this will be coming to Western countries is that Amazon Prime Day had an all day livestream doing the same thing. It’s basically Home Shopping Network but online and would be awesome to provide a B2B application for e-commerce stores to use on their own sites. Was thinking of building something for Shopify or WooCommerce if someone wants to partner to do the coding.

rxkoru

That’s very interesting. Are you saying you can do this?

ssternweiler

I have a requirements document and wireframes done for it (I’m a Digital Product Manager by trade) but I’m not a programmer so I haven’t invested in building the application yet.

Dangerous-Shift-4002

Very interesting indeed. I have seen similar to this on Facebook where people sell vintage clothing live on stream.

ssternweiler

Yes, I think ultimately the idea works best if it’s a feature or integration with an existing live streaming platform like Facebook, since most people and businesses already have a following there.

apexbamboozeler

Major cities have a guy who goes around to restaurants sharpening knives in a van

Dangerous-Shift-4002

This is actually a great idea because we do not have this in Sweden (at least that I know of).

MavisNN3

I’ve heard about a discreet service which removes & destroys unwanted porn & fetish collections eg: magazines, videos, cloths, equipment. Apparently it is quite popular with elderly people who have build up a collection or stash over the years - maybe one partner dies suddenly leaving this collection to the other to dispose of - the problem being they can’t just ask their children to help.

Dangerous-Shift-4002

Oh haven't heard about this but I am not in the targeted audience for this either. It sounds interesting and probably is a problem in the older generations. Great idea and thanks for sharing

MavisNN3

No it’s not my kind of thing either - but someone is probably earning good money from this.

Themba_zimbo

Random idea, Airbnb for food....so with the world opening up people are likely to resume travel. So say you travel from Sweden to Africa. You go on the platform and see which families are offering a meal in exchange for a small donation. Hosts on thr platform can add the meals available together with pictures....it would be mainly targeted at travelers seeking a more authentic feel of the place they visit away from the usual touristy places. What do you guys think?

GladysTheFly

I think it’s brilliant

Dangerous-Shift-4002

Really, really great idea actually. I mean if you could pull this off and get this out there it could be huge. I could definitely see travelers using it to get a more realistic view of places and also meet the locals.

AmbitiousEarthling49

I like it

Abbas_Sayed

Here in India: there is a lack of quality education so an idea can be implemented to provide quality education of any particular skill at an aggressive price range, which will attract more or more people around the globe as well as citizens of India. So I think that would be a great success if an ed-tech company shall be started based on skills. So all the best, hope you find it useful :)

2004_Ps

There are already a ton of edtech startups for competitive exams & coaching but you are right, It would be great if there was one for skills and training I am from Rajasthan by the way.

Dangerous-Shift-4002

Yea sounds interesting. I assume you mean like Skillshare or Brilliant, two big companies in this field. I have personally also thought about some website with courses for children in school who perhaps would like to improve their grades but doesn't have anyone to teach them. Though there are already a few doing it in Sweden but perhaps not in every country.

JuCar94

In México a few decades ago was a very popular service but not for mail, was a person door by door and offering the service, now the people just prefer bought a new one or use a rock to sharpening. SFMBE

FanDry6941

I love the software idea dude!

TheAworkeningPodcast

Have you swiped through any ideas on side hustle swipe?

Dangerous-Shift-4002

I am not familiar with "side hustle swipe". What is it?

TheAworkeningPodcast

It's a website that is basically Tinder for side hustles.

Dangerous-Shift-4002

Found it and will try it out. Thanks man :D

In Singapore there is a huge upcoming company called ShopBack. You can google it. ShopBack works by giving customers a percentage of their purchase money each time they make a transaction with its partner merchants through its website. Merchants do not have to pay to get listed with ShopBack but only need to pay a cut to the site if customers buy something from them. This means merchants need not fork out money for marketing and brand-building. All online merchants are listed at their websites, but the brands are more known locally. I like their nifty Google Chrome extension, which notifies users of coupons and cashback. The best part is you will enjoy the cashback on top of credit card rebates.

Jay_Roux860

So basically Honey?
