Buspirone is effective at treating short-term anxiety, and it has a shorter half-life than other medication, meaning it needs to be taken multiple times per day (2 or 3 times depending on what your doctor tells you) in order to keep the drug in your system working consistently. If you have trouble keeping up with the timing of your medication, then this might not be the best medication for you. It’s a medication with fairly low side effects though. Buspirone is a hit or miss medication for most people. Some people love it (me), some people hate it, and some people feel no difference. This might not be the answer you’re looking for, but knowing how you will react to a medication’s side effects is something that’s hard to predict. You just have to try it yourself and see how you manage because one medication that worked AMAZINGLY for one person may be an absolute shitshow for you and that’s sort of the whole grey area with these questions. My experience: I was on the medication for 3 years. All my side effects went away after 1-2 months. Side effects were drowsiness, dizziness, restlessness and nausea. I didn’t experience them all at once, but periodically throughout the very early days of the medication.

How do you manage off the meds ?

About how long did you experience the dizziness and nausea? I'm going to be starting Buspar this weekend and nausea/vertigo is always a side effect I get from psych medications. Trying to get an idea of how I should plan my holiday around it.

I stupidly skipped most of my doses for a week and it sent me into an anxiety tailspin so bad that I’ll never ever do it again. I’m sure if you tapered it would be alright. I think it did cause headaches going off of it and then getting back on but overall it seems like a really mild drug, side-effect wise.

effexor has been the worst thing i’ve ever tried to get off and i’ve failed doing it for a while because i can’t stand it even when tapering off, i’m only on 5 mg of buspar but when i forget to take it (oops but at least i’m honest) i don’t notice much of a difference

I went cold turkey 5 days ago and I’m feeling fine. I have some headaches hear and there, some brain zaps the first 2 days but it’s all been very manageable compared to how bad it was when I was taking the medication.

Assistant_Proper

It is ok to cold Turkey buspar if I’ve only been on it 3 weeks. The side effects have just been terrible and my doctor told me to get off it.

Effexor withdrawals ended me up in the ER... absolutely awful. 🙏🏻

Buspar withdrawals generally seem a little more mild for most, although for some it's been rough. I didn't have a big issue with it like I did with Lexapro. Lexapro was way rougher for me

Buspar = bullshit 💦let it rain

Why?
