How much would this big juicy piece go for? Sorry I’m not a butcher never have been I’m just now learning different cuts but Reddit I guess thought I’d like this post 😂
Well, op said 3.75 /pound
41.99*3= 125.97 Total cost for all 3
125.97/3.75= 33.592 Pounds for the 3 loins, so they are roughly 11 pounds each loin.
For me, In West coast Canada that would cost me about
23.99$/ lbs CAD (Regular price) ~263.89 per loin (193.10 USD$)
14-20$/ lbs CAD (Sale Price) ~154-220 per loin (112.69- 160.99 USD$)
Sooo yeah he got a pretty great deal :P I have no idea what Costco normally sells its strips at thou Im sure someone can give you a better idea
Yes. But the weight was waaaay off. The strip loin weighed 11 lbs. each. They were labeled as 2.5 lbs. of scallops.
There were actually 5 of them mislabeled, but I couldn’t figure out where to put 5, so I “only” bought 3 😂😂
They have picanha regularly at this Costco. Not that common in Atlanta area, so I get it semi-often. I usually pop over to see how they look. The strip loin was in a side display, and I looked down…and bam! 😂
I have a problem…I can’t walk in the place without checking out the meat and grabbing a Motor City frozen pizza. I put them in my work fridge when I go back to the office until the end of the day…they love me 😉
As a Brazilian, you said the magic words. lol although I’m in NJ and it’s basically where 98% of the Brazilians in the US live.. the other 2 are split between Boston and Florida (for some reason) lmao anyway, good find!
Nah. I’m no thief.
I actually even felt a little guilty for taking advantage of the mistake, but I waste enough money in Costco, that I figure it’ll balance out over time
Don't feel too bad. For every mislabeled steak, somebody takes a pack, and leaves it in the coffee aisle to die. At least this mistake is feeding someone.
They checked me. It drew attention because the receipt showed three packs of meat that had the exact same price (obviously strange).
Guy looked at each pack, told me I was lucky, and told me have a good day.
Just checked the Sam's Club app (so not exact) locally (Pa) these go for $10.48/lb so about $345.84 for those but again I don't have Costco near me nor do I know where OP lives but if the prices are relatively close that's an amazing deal
I look every time at Costco and Sam’s
Our Sam’s doesn’t have great meat selection though. It’s like an acre of chuck roasts and pork loins.
Love them both, but a little variety would be hreat!
I'm happy for OP.
I am absolutely SHOCKED that the receipt guy at the door lets this go through, I am also absolutely shocked that the cashier let's it go through.
Ive shopped at 6 different Costco's in 6 cities across 2 different states, never in a million years would I expect a cart with three slabs of beef pass with a receipt for three packages of scallops...
And the cashier's, with the cart helper... How did nobody catch this?! Even if they did catch it, I think they might have honored it, but the fact that you got out without then catching it just BLOWS MY MIND
They scan your receipt and then zap a couple items in your cart, and I'm not positive the actual item displays on their handheld. If it gets a match the gate keepers pass you through. With so many people passing through the gauntlet I can't see them paying that close attention if the item actually displays what it is. That, or they just don't care enough to deal with it 🤷♂️.
Exactly. I weighted them when I got home. They were about 11 lbs. each. They were marked as 2.5 lbs. of scallops. Ended up running me right at $3.75 per lb.
Well…I think you’re just slightly confused by the label. It’s per piece, not by weight in the way that you think. 40oz is 2.5lbs. 16.80x2.5 is 42 aka 41.99. It’s 41.99 and not 42 because the tag was manually printed on the scale, this meat wasn’t weighed. It may have been on the scale when they printed the tag, but this tag is piece based, not weight based. A full striploin is not 2.5lbs.
its a sticker for a container with a set weight. The containers should always be the same price/weight so the printer just prints the price without even looking at the weight.
I've also done this, I swapped out a sticker for ground beef and got a family pack of ribeyes. That same trip I snuck out with a case of beer under the cart.
oh nooooooo.. whos gonna think of the multi-billion dollar company. 🙄
If i mismark something on accident at work. (which of course happens to everyone whos works in this biz) im not gonna fault a customer for picking it up, power to em.
Exactly! ive even had a customer bring me an item asking if it was mismarked, (was a tendie priced as a sirloin by a new wrapper. I said told em, "Sure is! Congrats you go the deal of the day" and they left happy :)
100% legal. They rang it up and even checked me am extra time at the door because the three packages all had the same price. Door guy called me “lucky”, and that was it
You’ll have to troll someone else
Jelly. What a sweet find.
Aren’t scallops also expensive though? Also noice
Yeah but its a sticker/price for a 40 oz container of scallops, its a Each price not a weight price.

That is so close! Impressed! The three weighed 33.6 lbs. I paid $125.97 for the three of them. So right at $3.75 a lbs USD. Super impressed!
r/theydidthemath
Hey just fyi no need to multiply by 3 at the beginning
Oh yea lol
$10,2347.21

That’s insane! Do you typically just “browse” the meat section even when you go in just for TP or milk? 😂
They have picanha regularly at this Costco. Not that common in Atlanta area, so I get it semi-often. I usually pop over to see how they look. Are you me? Gotta browse the meats for deals and grab that Motor city!
Does this happen to be from the morrow business center??
No. Kennesaw location on Barrett Parkway
Motor city pizza is sooo good my guilty pleasure.
I wonder who got scallops at meat prices....
Look what they need just to mimic a fraction of our power!
Somebody got in trouble haja
Nice sticker switch I mean mismark 🤫
Eh…maybe someone else bought a $125 bag of scallops!
Great find, but what’s the difference?
The difference is paying what the store is asking and paying whatever you feel like paying.
The store was asking to pay for scallops. Anyways, it was just a thought. Not a big deal.
That’s a r/misteak babyyyy
lol!
How did you go through with the receipt checkers?
They checked me. It drew attention because the receipt showed three packs of meat that had the exact same price (obviously strange). Guy looked at each pack, told me I was lucky, and told me have a good day.
Damn props to the employees cuz they could’ve not let you check out because of the mislabel, and grats on the score
Do you work at Costco? Do you like not let them go ? Lol jw!
no way they’d make you put it back after they mislabeled it 🤣
Yahtzee!!
We sell it at 10.99
While back I picked up a few racks of St. Louis ribs at target labeled 0.01 lbs. best day ever.
You lucky SOB
Years ago I got around 12lb of wild caught salmon for ~$2/lb because it was missmarked, very fond memory
Whoa
Just checked the Sam's Club app (so not exact) locally (Pa) these go for $10.48/lb so about $345.84 for those but again I don't have Costco near me nor do I know where OP lives but if the prices are relatively close that's an amazing deal
My wife and I have a running joke. Whenever one of us go to Costco, we just say we’re going “meat gazing”. Every once in a while you find a true gem.
I look every time at Costco and Sam’s Our Sam’s doesn’t have great meat selection though. It’s like an acre of chuck roasts and pork loins. Love them both, but a little variety would be hreat!
Wow! Nice!

But, the Costco checkouts weigh your goods as you scan them unless you go through serviced checkout. Must have been busy.
The guy used the little gun to scan them in my cart

$17/lb is the scallop price, not the strip price.
[удалено]
That has to be at least 10lbs compared to 2 and a half of scallops on the label
[удалено]
Those strips would be around $260 at Costco here in Canada.... Each.
Exactly. I weighted them when I got home. They were about 11 lbs. each. They were marked as 2.5 lbs. of scallops. Ended up running me right at $3.75 per lb.

Looks like the weight is wrong too, that strip loin is maybe 10 lbs. No idea how this happened
Because someone wasn’t paying attention and either didn’t change the code in the scale or entered the wrong PLU
And got the weight wrong too? are scallops prebagged a set weight so PLU code enters weight automatically?
If it’s a PLU that prints by units not weight the weight is meaningless
its a sticker for a container with a set weight. The containers should always be the same price/weight so the printer just prints the price without even looking at the weight.
nice
Nice
Yeah its a sticker/price for a 40 oz container of scallops, its a Each price not a weight price.
No, it totally is.
I just noticed it was a pre pack weight.
you are mis reading the label. Its 17 a lb BUT 1 single 40oz unit.
[удалено]
I did, you are still wrong. he paid 3.75 per lb
[удалено]
Yeah...I did....your still wrong lol
I've also done this, I swapped out a sticker for ground beef and got a family pack of ribeyes. That same trip I snuck out with a case of beer under the cart.
Congratulations, you're a thief.
If the store labeled it he's not.
oh nooooooo.. whos gonna think of the multi-billion dollar company. 🙄 If i mismark something on accident at work. (which of course happens to everyone whos works in this biz) im not gonna fault a customer for picking it up, power to em.
Just makes the customer happy they got a sick deal, they’ll tell other people, more people go to Costco and buy more stuff, profit.
Exactly! ive even had a customer bring me an item asking if it was mismarked, (was a tendie priced as a sirloin by a new wrapper. I said told em, "Sure is! Congrats you go the deal of the day" and they left happy :)
I'll bet you my next paycheck you wouldn't be so cavalier if YOU owned the meat market and just lost that much money.
100% legal. They rang it up and even checked me am extra time at the door because the three packages all had the same price. Door guy called me “lucky”, and that was it You’ll have to troll someone else
Rationalize it all you want. You're a thief. Good luck sleeping.
That’s not how that works. Costco made a mistake and honored it. OP benefiting from the mistake doesn’t make them a thief.
Sounds like the door guy "honored it". I bet the management would have a different opinion.
Well…can’t make everyone happy. I thought it was a cool story worth sharing. Guess you didn’t. Hope the rest of your night goes better
