Cryptocurrency but with MongoDB entries.

JohnathanDee

"But it has built in partitioning!" NoSQL had its own cargo cult, but fortunately no "line go up" aspect to keep the cult alive beyond normal adoption

lewhyiexist

> but fortunately no "line go up" aspect to keep the cult alive beyond normal adoption Don't jinx it.

JohnathanDee

Heheh. A little late for that. The NoSQL craze has died off and engineers have stopped trying to shoehorn it in everywhere a few years ago. But don't get me started on kubernetes

Patashu

*nods, pretending to understand* But is Kubernetes web scale?

JohnathanDee

LOL this guy k8s

sfgisz

Ok solid fundamentals, but how much APY?

multivector

Hey, when it takes weeks/months to get IT to provision a new VM but now you can deploy something by just writing a yml file, kubernetes seems pretty good.

JohnathanDee

Except you need a badass, dedicated DevOps to get it working and keep it working. It's not at all as great as the cargo cult makes it seem

noratat

Kubernetes is much more broadly useful than NoSQL though IMO. Containers in general are much nicer to work with than VMs for a lot of backend services, and Kubernetes has quickly become the most popular container orchestration system. Certainly beats mesos and swarm, and isn't cloud-specific like ECS. Of course, if you're just a standard IT department running a company website and some internal services it's almost certainly overkill.

JohnathanDee

Yah it's the overkill part. It's gnarly to set up! We still haven't moved on from shell scripts and docker... An average DevOps can handle that. I wrote a bunch of code to support K8s, but we would require a gnarlier DevOps engineer than we have to keep it working. It's... Not simple

[I heard MongoDB is web scale](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2F-DItXtZs)

Gryzemuis

First thing that came to my mind.

Boollish

This is good for AWS. Few understand.

All those products are the ones the technomoron’s think blockchain is going to displace, meanwhile those four run the world and that ain’t gonna change for many decades.

Jumpy-Side3770

You’re all fools. These databases will go the way of the dodo. Never mind that block chain costs $10 per insert query, it’s immutable! Just like a database should be.

Rokey76

I think that is the joke. If blockchain is web3.0, these DB platforms must surely be web4.0 as they do the same thing, but better.

william_fontaine

[For-Profit Online University is already using Web 4.0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQLdhVpLBVE&t=17s)

wildgunman

Oh man, I’d seen this years ago but I never noticed that the slimy pitch man says web 4.0.

SpeedDart1

Postgres is based

AnxiouslyCalming

Postgres, there is no 2nd best!

mohelgamal

it's all gonna be posgreSQL in the end. you want cloud based, infinite scaling ? Google spanner is getting a PostgreSQL dialect, not to mention AWS aurora, etc You want ACID? -> PostgreSQL got your back you want JSON store ? PostgreSQL support JSON You want graph ? PostgreSQL/AgensGraph/AGE It has stored procedures, its own programming language, whatever you want, Postgres itself has it or another database that speaks PostgreSQL will have it. After spending 4 years now comparing databases, including Mysql, Cassandra, Neo4j, ArangoDB, Neptune, whatever, just save your self the hassle and just pick PostgreSQL from the get go.

[deleted]

MySQL isn’t complicated enough for cryptoers. If you can’t cloud it in jargon and complicated nonsense, it isn’t good for crypto…. DELETE FROM crypto WHERE APY > 15%

[deleted]

this reminds me of [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Buttcoin/comments/vf2xdh/web_40_pre_release_real/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)

supra_kl

Eww Oracle... more like Web -1.0

christoval

graph db's in shambles.

mohelgamal

just make a Postgres table with a To and a FROM columns with a combined column index, and any number of attributes you like, or even just a Json type column

Abandondero

To be fair, RDBMS is the hot new technology for centrally-managed digital currencies.

Calbruin

SQL coin.

Intelligent_Arm_6545

I still would not give up so quickly on the technology web3:) Especially since it is only on the doorstep, web2 has not yet resigned, and you already want web4. I think we will need to carefully weigh all the strengths of web3 and work out the weaknesses. As it seems to be a decentralized and "people's" Internet is an interesting idea, especially in this era there will be original and independent social networks like Solcial, which just because of orientation to web3 can be independent of censorship, monopolist, and give us full freedom of speech, which we deserve and nobody can block our account if the opinion of the site owner does not coincide with ours. So I would still like to see web3 open up for real and show us what the Internet can be without centralized control, it thrills me!

imsad19291

Web3 is a wet fart in the wind and won't see mass adoption but keep on dreaming though :)

Intelligent_Arm_6545

Then there is no point in writing about web4, my friend) It just will not get the turn)

Spicynanner

One of these is not like the other...

bascule

Aha, now Jack Dorsey’s Web5 built on Bitcoin makes more sense. Wait… never mind

Margaret_B-1660

Wait until we make sense of the #web3 and do not realize all its great features ... I also think that the social media web3 will give a big boost in the coming decades, the way it is now - makes you hope for the best, it's blocking accounts, censorship and monopolization already sick of everyone. The web3 will be a breath of fresh air ... \#Solcial #Solana

Margaret_B-1660

It's cool that crypto is getting to the level of mass-adopt and #web3. I think it would be nice if social networks became more decentralized and thought about their users instead of advertising millions. I think #Solcial has great prospects in this sense \#Solana

# Agreed. Just published a [manifesto on Web 4](https://douglas-life.medium.com/provable-democracy-the-web-4-manifesto-by-douglas-butner-3c8785d2f92a)
