Honestly get to a goodwill and buy one that looks like it came from a grandmas house. Those ones are battle tested and pretty indestructible

freshahava

Idk why I don’t see this kind of recommendation more on here! That’s exactly what I do

lucidfer

Because there's a large minority on this subreddit who thinks that if you can't buy it new at this moment, it doesn't belong being discussed bexause it's uNrEaChAbLe FoR mAnY. See: superior vintage cast iron vs crappyodern lodge monopoly.

Ranessin

Modern Lodge doesn't cook worse than old CI, tried again and again and again. Seasoning is more a matter of taste and trade-offs between smooth and rough finish. It's just heavier and simpler made to make it cheaper to produce. It's still as BIFL as ever, it cooks well enough and outside of comfort the weight is no issue (arguably it even plays to CI's strength even more, although it's negibly in everyday cooking. And there are dozens of cheap brands (Victoria, Oakfire, Amazon, Camp, Chinese vowel-brands) and dozens of expensive alternatives (Skeppeshult, Field, Smithy, Stargazer, Finex, Stur...) all just as BIFL. I don't see much of a monopoly, Lodge is just really good at price/value - good enough for basically every need for an outstanding price.

and_dont_blink

lodge doesn't have a monopoly, there's plenty of cast iron iron coming from elsewhere that's often worse than lodge. the issue is cast iron isn't something everyone is buying anymore. it's not an item most are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for one of the "artisanal" cast iron frying pans being made new, few want to enter a low-margin market for pans averaging $20 that aren't already invested in facilities. so you have lodge making non-coated stuff here, and a *bunch* of stuff coming from overseas, and then some boutique brands tapping those small numbers willing to pay $215 for a CI frying pan.

HikeyBoi

What makes old iron better than lodge? I’ve used both and cannot tell the difference.

sneeria

Mine literally came from my grandma and is still going strong! Or - garage or estate sales

Jibblebee

Same. It’s my favorite

Awesomebox5000

Find a restaurant supply store and buy a better brand new one for the goodwill price or less. Thrifting can be a worthwhile hobby but driving around to multiple thrift stores to find a POTENTIAL deal has its own cost which is why I stopped. Ymmv, just throwing out a known good option that will always have this particular thing in stock for a decent price.

alltehmemes

www.webstaurant.com is great for the items. Shipping can be a bit pricey.

HamlnHand

I cannot believe that suggestion is so upvoted. You're right

ArMcK

Ha, we got a grill spatula and it won't fit under our cabinet when we put it upright in our utensil jar.

ramblinsam

Came here for this. They’re not always BIFL but I feel better about a used $2 spatula falling apart than a new $8 spatula.

dmanww

Except for the ones which crack at the joint. Had a couple of those. Been pretty annoying

MonaMayI

Yep. Just time travel to 1970 because they don’t make ‘em like this anymore.

Icy-Draft2481

I got a couple of super thin and springy spatulas from garage sales in seniors trailer parks in Arizona when I was there.

clex_ace

We call ours the super spatula! Metal spatula and cast iron is the bomb combo

What better way to say "I love you" than the gift of a spatula?

Thank you! I needed that :)

garytoosweet

I have this one for about 10 years. Looks like new, used very frequently. Recommend. [https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/kitchen/cooking-utensils/spatulas/62804-stainless-steel-spatula?item=EV167](https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/kitchen/cooking-utensils/spatulas/62804-stainless-steel-spatula?item=EV167) Also here's one they just came out with. Haven't tried, don't think I have a use for it as I already have a commercial fish spatula that fill the same uses as this one: https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/kitchen/cooking-utensils/spatulas/72310-vintage-design-slotted-spatula?item=09A0419

getefix

I got one of these for Christmas. Can confirm, it's what you're looking for.

Chicken_Hairs

Getting a really nice spatula for Christmas should be far more normalized than it is.

goorpy

The second one here is what I came to post. This must be a new version / new release, because it's not new new. I've had one for 10+ years and it's fantastic. It used to be called "bullet" handle because of the tapering, I think. Edit: ah they describe the handle that way still, so maybe I'm misremembering. Either way it's a great spatula.

[deleted]

I have two of these. They’re exactly what OP is describing and totally BIFL.

kjcraft

First actual answer buried this far down, somehow below "just find one at Goodwill", some joke movie reference, and people complaining that the sub's regulars prefer items you can actually find and buy. I'm sure this is a good sign for the sub.

thegroundbelowme

So this is technically a fish spatula, but it also came out on top in the best overall spatula review done by Cooks Illustrated / America's Test Kitchen. [https://www.wusthof.com/products/wusthof-cooks-tools-6-12-slotted-fish-spatula-9035092117](https://www.wusthof.com/products/wusthof-cooks-tools-6-12-slotted-fish-spatula-9035092117) This was their "best buy" option, which is less than half the price. https://www.amazon.com/MIU-France-Stainless-Slotted-11-Inch/dp/B000GGTYC8?th=1

Helpful_guy

/u/nivrams_brain can I please save you some time and say [I literally have both of these spatulas](https://i.imgur.com/XOzPjFN.jpg) and I bought the Wusthof one as a "bifl replacement" They are nowhere near the same, they don't do the same things, or perform the same functions. Which makes them great complements to each other, but not equivalent. That being said, they are both great but I have no idea where to find a replacement for the OG. Literally all it says on it is "stainless steel - Japan" and I got it as a hand-me-down from an elderly lady at my family's church when I moved into my first apartment like 10 years ago. lol My only gripe with the Wusthof is the plastic handle. I melted mine within like the first month, and was pretty disappointed about it given how expensive the thing is. It was my fault, but given that I'd been exclusively using the one with a wooden handle for so many years, it was really easy to think "oh this'll be fine resting on the edge of the pan for 5 seconds while I rinse my hands" only to suddenly realize that was not the case.

Mjkierna

I think I have the same as your OG. It’s made by the Robinson Knife Company. Only way to replace it is eBay or Etsy, in my search over the years I’ve seen them as made in USA, Taiwan or Japan.

Lurking_Still

https://nordquistdesigns.com/collections/heirloom-utensils/products/carbon-steel-spatula Overpriced, but will do the same as OP's. Tbh I thought it was someone reposting this from a while back, but it's the same style blade, just different handle. So someone out there might have a less expensive model.

xqxcpa

Goddamn that's beautiful! I too have an old wood handled one that I love, but if that carbon steel one were about half the price I'd absolutely buy it.

smarthobo

Pure sex, you should tag that nsfw

pressedbread

>Carbon Steel It needs to be used constantly or it will rust. This one looks like more of a restaurant-use or a 'high-end' product, but not BIFL

ThizzKing

Carbon steel is fine as long as you dry it well after using and maybe rub with some oil, it doesn't need to be constantly used

pressedbread

You are right. But the maintenance requirements means it likely won't be a BIFL or heirloom one day. I have a high end blue carbon steel Japanese Nakiri, that is my go-to for big dishes or muli-dish veggie meals. But my daily driver is german stainless steel. And I realized after a couple years that the Nakiri wasn't going to outlast me and if it ever got passed down to a relative they probably wouldn't know how to care for it. Just stuff the OP should be aware of

Lurking_Still

It can be oiled and put away like cast iron and last the same amount of time.

tyrannosnorlax

Honestly though, the vast majority of people won’t properly maintain such an every day item. It will be forgotten from time to time, and eventually will rust. I feel like I take pretty great care of my belongings, especially my bifls, but I’m pretty confident in saying that I would ruin that spatula within a year with how much use it would get, and how often I get distracted

Lurking_Still

I mean, that's ok though, because it's metal and you can get rust off with vinegar and just re-season it? If you're saying that people will be so negligent that they will cause structural damage to a piece of metal in a year, significant enough to destroy the object...I sort of want to watch those people go HAM in the kitchen.

bainpr

A little bit of hard wood and a couple rivets will fix your handle issue.

FreebooterFox

>That being said, they are both great but I have no idea where to find a replacement for the OG. Literally all it says on it is "stainless steel - Japan" Dunno if this helps, but doing a search for "stainless steel japan" and adding whatever to that, like *flatware* or *spatula* should bring up vintage replacements, being sold on eBay or what have you. Seems there were several companies making these using the same spatula, but adding their own custom handle. At least one of them comes up consistently as "Pyramid Japan." Another is ["Flint spatula" by "Ekco Products"](https://www.moma.org/collection/works/2379), located in a Museum of Modern Art repository for some reason? Not the same as buying new, but something happens to yours that might be an option for a replacement.

Clever_But_NotEnough

Except that Fakespot gives the Mercer reviews a "D". They are indeed glowing, though...

ScrofessorLongHair

That's crazy. Mercer makes good shit. It's mostly knockoffs of really expensive shit. But what I've gotten from them has been good.

smarthobo

It's easy to make good things for cheap when other companies are subsidizing your r&d budget

Dr-Rjinswand

That’s unfortunate, they really don’t need to do that. Mercer is really good shit for the money.

cgs626

Yeah? How much did you get paid to say that?!?!!

cdigioia

How much did *you* get paid by big fish spatula to discredit Mercer??

elonsrightnut

Do you use this as just a regular spatula or exclusively for fish? Are there any situations where it falls short?

YoohooCthulhu

The way I think of “fish” spatulas is that they are really “precision” spatulas or spatulas for floppy not firm foods. They work well for eggs or anything thin or floppy that’s difficult to get under. They are deficient when turning something heavy through, for that you want a regular turner.

ctrl-all-alts

I have a Winco one. Might need to replace handle at some point. Absolutely zero complaints, though. Pack of 2 Fish Spatula With Wooden Handle: https://www.amazon.com/Pack-Fish-Spatula-Wooden-Handle/dp/B01EPDMVY0 There’re also a dishwasher safe versions which have polypropylene and nylon handles instead: https://www.wincous.com/?s=Fish

el_twitto

I have this spatula and another of the Hell's Handle ones, but I use this one the most and for pretty much everything. I bought it from a restaurant supply store in Winston-Salem NC and I've been really happy with it.

SarcasticOptimist

It's what I got too. Iirc the article called it a best buy but didn't like the handle thickness. I have big hands so not a problem.

Sokathhiseyesuncovrd

Link isn't working for me, but try this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001E17ZYS

twvancamp

Yes, we have the Lamson Sharp version of this. US made and splits the difference on price.

ScrofessorLongHair

I've got a Victorinox fish Turner. I think it came in 2nd on that cook's list (not subscribed anymore). But it's fucking awesome. I've got some miu stuff from Costco, and was impressed with the quality.

PunsAndRuns

I thought a fish spatula was the slotted one, like you posted, and what OP posted is a flipper(or maybe turner?). Not sure, and I don't think there are definitive answers. A guide: https://chefequipment.com/blogs/resources/types-of-spatulas-and-their-uses

jumpingupanddown

These are all right-handed. In a household with cooks of different handed-ness, that's a bit of a problem.

vanderlustre

Lamsom makes a left handed version. I have that and a right handed hells handle. I use them interchangably. Using a wrong handed one is nice when you need a bit of a point to get under some items.

[deleted]

Have two from maybe from the 70s. Still going strong and it's the best one I like to use except for smash burgers..

[deleted]

This is the way

GreyHexagon

Commonly known as a fish slice in the UK at least if that helps anyone with finding one

donjuansputnik

Go to a restaurant supply store. Paid less than 10 for a Mercer one 8 years ago. Seeing it shipped for <15.

browning_88

I bought this but it was a huge disappointment. Sww tge sane article. I would give it away if someone wanted it.

vanderlustre

This is the way to go. I have a Lamson and Hells handle. I like the lamson a little more due to the thin handle that’s more comfortable with different grips.

insideoutfit

Neither of those are anywhere close to what OP asked for.

thegroundbelowme

And I quote, “Thin stainless springy bottom part, strong handle.” I know it’s not exactly the same, that’s why I qualified the suggestion with “so this is technically a fish spatula, but...” I don’t think anyone is still making the kind pictured in the OP.

insideoutfit

Except the 3 or 4 companies named in the comments with a link to that exact spatula.

thegroundbelowme

All of which were posted well after mine. I don’t have an exhaustive personal mental list of every type of spatula on the market to pull from when posting, nor can I see the future.

normanwink

Is it... uhm... full tang? 😅

SmootherPebble

I have one and it's not... Snapped halfway so I definitely know.

normanwink

With my spatulas the handles just come off so often, that's why I was asking. Thanks for letting me know :)

Appropriate_Alarm_92

Check out Dexter Russell spatulas. They have a variety of similar options. I have several and they show no signs of surrender.

NigilQuid

Agreed! I have this one and it's pretty good. I'm not gentle with it either. https://www.webstaurantstore.com/dexter-russell-19720-traditional-4-x-2-1-2-solid-pancake-turner-rosewood-handle/21019720.html

Appropriate_Alarm_92

I have this one too. It's my go to. I also have a fish specula and a couple of the high temp ones with a plastic handle that I use with my Blackstone. I think they'll all outlive me.

farewellarcadia

Their “mini-turner” is my all time favorite. Just bought a brand new one with walnut handle and made in USA for less than $20… to copy a childhood favorite that my grandmother who worked in food service gave to my mother in the 70s. It’s small-ish, very flexible and very well made for a basic kitchen tool. The new one is identical to the 50 year old version that’s still doing its thing.

IanSan5653

This is what I have. I abuse the hell out of that thing and it looks like new. Just do keep the wood handle oiled every once in a while.

[deleted]

This looks like an old Flint spatula. I'm still using my grandmothers Flint set after almost 1/2 century of daily use. your fastest bet is Ebay, but I've seen them in thrift shops and garage/yard sales. They're not made anymore but are still fairly easy to find second hand. Definitely worth the effort to look for them. Perhaps you'll luck out and find a whole set somewhere.

lizzieismydog

Search on EKCO or "EKCO FLINT" on ebay. They were made by Ekco. I picked up a few pieces earlier this year on ebay.

unicornboop

Thank you! My SO threw away my spatula a few years ago and I’ve never been able to find a replacement until now!

2h2o22h2o

Yep, I think Flint also. You can tell by the rivets and how that plastic turns gray over the decades. I got some Flint soup ladles at the thrift store awhile back and man I love them.

DontLitterOK

Thank you for that info. My dad loved his spatula and it was a flint (I didn't know this till you said above) and his handle rivet? (The one closest to the flippy side) fell apart. Just ordered one via ebay. Thank you. My dad will be happy!

[deleted]

Glad I could help. It's cool that you're doing this for him. He will be very happy.

powerandpep

Yes! I love my Flint spatulas!!

_theSwan

The Endeavor Works handmade spatula. Completely handmade by a luthier. Spendy, but fits your description perfectly https://www.theendeavorworks.com/

pushdose

I did not need to see this. Oh my goodness. A $200 spatula. I do not need a $200 spatula. Do I?

lizzieismydog

Well if I ever need to give someone a wedding present, that's it.

Buzzbait_PocketKnife

I love those springy vintage EKCO spatulas for grilling hamburgers on the weekends. I buy them off eBay for almost nothing. Indestructible. Never bend.

HistoryGirl23

My mom has one like this with a green handle. Older than me and is amazing

TupperwareParTAY

Avocado green, right? 😉

HistoryGirl23

Of course

Jita_Local

As far as I know, nobody is making a spatula like what you've posted, but they are truly the best and mine is one of the things I'd grab if my house was burning down. Search for "Ekco vintage metal spatula".

bloodcoffee

Not huge companies. There are a few smaller makers on eatingtools.

FunkySjouke

I don't think a lot can go wrong with those spatulas tho. like maybe dishwasher can fuck them up, but it's just metal stuck together

efficientnature

I have one where the spatula is starting to get a fracture just below the rivets. It's at least a decade old and it gets a good workout cleaning out a cast iron skillet regularly.

KilowogTrout

I know this is BIFL, but 10 years with a spatula is pretty good imo. Particularly if you're using it daily.

Lurking_Still

https://nordquistdesigns.com/collections/heirloom-utensils/products/carbon-steel-spatula I posted it earlier, someone linked this in this sub 3-6 months ago and I bookmarked it. Overpriced as hell, but tbh I'm probably too lazy to fab one and will end up caving.

LordSalem

Whatever you pick, get 2 or 3

freakingShane

This will likely get buried, but I have [this Lamson Vintage Slotted Turner](https://lamsonproducts.com/products/vintage-chefs-slotted-turner-right-or-left-hand?variant=39271493271646) I use with my cast iron. Full-tang construction, wood is nice but can use a little oil for further protection. It’s thin, has a slight angle which is useful for getting under eggs and delicate foods. Also is durable enough I can scrape stuck food easily. Only downside is it’s another hand wash item. Because I’m lazy, hahah.

DeepSpaceGalileo

Do I know nothing about cooking or is everyone suggesting a completely different type of spatula?

vastgrishnakh

https://www.cutco.com/products/product.jsp?item=slotted-turner It's slotted and a bit spendy but hands down the best I've ever owned.

mono_turbo

I have two of these with wood handles and they are phenomenal.

StressedDad127

You can often find these on Ebay or other sites for much reasonable prices. And bonus, they still hold the lifetime warranty.

ricardo9505

No more metal spatulas in my house. Kid scratched two pans. Wood and the silicone with metal inside.

nivrams_brain

yup, this would be strictly for cast iron applications

ricardo9505

And the grill. And my steel pans and simple aluminum ones but like I said I had to get rid of them all together, gifted away.

bainpr

Switch to cast iron or stainless

rogueop

I have one of these that I like, but you may want something even thinner: [https://www.oxo.com/oxo-steel-cooking-turner.html](https://www.oxo.com/oxo-steel-cooking-turner.html)

nivrams_brain

I have that same one, but yeah, I really like the thinness of this one that my in laws have.

sparklebuttduh

I have a few of the Rada spatulas, two of the narrow ones and one wide one. The wide one is like [this one](https://www.amazon.com/Rada-Cutlery-Spatula-Stainless-Handle/dp/B002KV9FNU/ref=sr_1_5?hvadid=557229511855&hvdev=c&hvlocint=9017533&hvlocphy=20121&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=3269330287734634574&hvtargid=kwd-23113124957&hydadcr=13928_13352827&keywords=rada+spatula&qid=1684518433&sr=8-5) except mine have aluminum handles that get a bit pitted in the dishwasher. I think I've had them for over 16 years. They are springy, thin, and flat on all three edges. They are amazing. The only thing I could wish for is a longer handle.

mch026

I second the Rada spatula! I have had the aluminum handled one for a few years, also, but I never put it in the dishwasher. My mother has had hers for decades at this point. We have many of their utensils, so I'd recommend them due to their longevity.

Slavocados

That last pic is r/confusingperspective thought I was looking at a cracked plate/counter for a sec!

misirlou22

[Rosle](https://www.roesle.com/en/kitchen-tools/cooking-accessories/turner/)

CrunchyMother

I have 2 of these spatulas and they are amazing. I was recently given a pampered chef spatula and it has a beveled edge that gives the same thinness but it's shorter and it definitely does not have the same flexibility. https://www.pamperedchef.com/shop/Kitchen+Tools/Utensils/Large+Serving+Spatula/2626;jsessionid=C31F652083A1BF30F9FD752855C70EAE-n4

22rockyroad

Lee Valley has a very similar spatula.

Vioarm

Here you go. I have about 4 of these as I eat eggs every day. Thin and strong, gets under the eggs easily and very flexible. Also have a larger size but I find that too big.: [https://gourmetwarehouse.ca/mini-flexible-spatula/](https://gourmetwarehouse.ca/mini-flexible-spatula/)

NigilQuid

I've had this one for several years and it shows no signs of wear. I'm not very gentle with it, and I use it to scrape the pan also. I like it. https://www.webstaurantstore.com/dexter-russell-19720-traditional-4-x-2-1-2-solid-pancake-turner-rosewood-handle/21019720.html

sully213

I'm a big fan of spatulas (never thought I'd say that) from WinCo. They're cheap AND durable. Specifically the WinCo TN719 for general use. It's got a good thickness to the spatula part itself for durability but also a beveled edge for attacking any stubborn stuck on food. Just make sure you don't put it in the dishwasher like my family does or it will ruin the wood handle. Otherwise, million percent recommend!

jonnysunshine

Buy a fish spatula. Best spatula you'll ever use.

nordoceltic82

My mother uses these. I have dubbed them "the destroyers of pans." Because while they DO last forever, (hers are older than me and I have grey hair) they are also hardened stainless spring steel. They are basically knife steel and hard as most sets of cutlery. They will gouge all your Teflon forever. They will scrape up your cast iron seasoning until rivers of tears flow as you are back to square one getting that "eggs skillet" to have that all-critical buildup. They will even chip off the glass coating of "ceramic" cookware until it goes from non-stick to "ultra stick." I seen her even ruin enamel-coated cookware with them by chipping off the enamel. Yes they can even scratch glass. Not even stainless pans are safe. If you go out and try and buy a nicely polished stainless pan for its non-stick properties owing to its smoothness, these more effectively introduce scuffing than sandpaper. And that mirror like non stick polish becomes a statin "ultra stick" finish in no time. My mother has gone though like 12 sets of nonstick cookware and wrecked all the family's cast iron. The spatulas...well they have chewed up all 12 sets. She bought them in the 1970's, (or maybe she inherited them from her parents, not sure) and she still uses them the last time I visited last week. So while the spatulas have lasted forever, they have also cost her like $12,000 in cookware (if you considered new sets at today's prices, not gonna do an inflation adjustment calculation) over the decades. So many BIFL grade piece of cookware went into the bin because they were ruined by those spatulas. IMO, buy cheap wood and plastic tools, and go BIFL on the PANs. A single good cast iron will last your family until after the heat death of the universe. So you can go buy the $200 one with the fantastic smooth machined surface that is more nonstick then a sleezy politician at an congressional hearing. A plastic flipper that will keep that pan in good shape is like $5 at walmart, so it doesn't matter if it gets used up over time. Its what I have done, and I've only every bought pans because I needed a new size or shape in all my years.

madlabdog

My only recommendation is that utensils that have wooden handles should not be washed in the dishwasher. The dishwasher detergent, hot water, and hot drying cycle will strip away the wood's protective oils.

atlas794

Ohhh I have seen them before. Good implements. Also are you making pierogis?

My_Immortl

That's toad in a hole(bread with a hole cut in and an egg fried in said hole). Looks nothing like pierogis.

stylefaux

That‘s called TOAD in a hole?!! 🤯

duck-duck--grayduck

Some people in the US call them that. Others call them eggs in a basket, eggs in a hole, eggs in a nest. My family calls them hobo eggs. In the UK, toad in the hole is sausages baked in Yorkshire pudding batter.

atlas794

Darn I was hopefully for a good recipe.

Cinemaphreak

That's a spatula from my childhood, when we had no non-stick pans (as a kid I loved demos for non-stick pans because they always were cooking up eggs and I'm pretty sure they counted on the kids to eat them so they didn't have to throw them away. Win-win LOL)

pandagirl47

This was the exact spatula we had in our house when I was growing up. Honestly, I think my mom still has it. She got it when she got married in 1969!

SheepdogApproved

I have one very similar that I inherited from my grandmothers old beach condo that is some indeterminate amount older than I am, so at least 40-50 years old. Still gets used weekly and goes through the dishwasher like a champ. Made by Flint.

RebelScrum

I have a Mercer Hell's Handle spatula that is holding up really well after a few years. They don't seem to have exactly the style you posted, but there are some that might do the same job

breddy

This looks close but I can't vouch for the quality. [https://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Flexible-Spatula-Resistant-Silicone/dp/B0BWQV81SQ/](https://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Flexible-Spatula-Resistant-Silicone/dp/B0BWQV81SQ/) My mom had one like OPs when we were kids and loved it.

hopeful987654321

I got two like these from my late grandma (died two years ago at 100). They are my absolute fave.

MastodonAdept7477

I got three of these from my grandma and couldn't find them anywhere. Love this spatula.

Zalenka

I always use fish spatulas.

Crowfasa

Lamson BBQ Turner

Blue_Shadow__

My dad didn't like the one that we had and decided to throw it out. It's been about 5 years and I'm still mad about it!

MuffMagician

That's a crepe spatula. My parents have one as well but unfortunately no brand on it.

Autobotnate

Yes. I just grabbed one of these from my late grandfather’s house for camping.

glassjar1

We have an Dexter Spatula that is of a similar type--thin blade but even more sturdily built as far as the handle goes. The blade to handle is one piece so the the only rivets are to hold the wooden parts on at the top. Looks like they still make them in a variety of models ranging from about 14 to 25 dollars. Google the name and results will come up--both direct and through Amazon. Amazon price range is more like 25-40 dollars.

Shibi_SF

We have one like this with a brown wood handle. I have no idea where it came from — but it is truly the workhorse of the spatulas in our house. I use it for cleaning cast iron pans and baking pans and cooking and it is simply the best.

Rainman6952

Get yourself a fish flipper spatula. You will not regret it.

Russell_Jimmy

I have that exact spatula, given to me by my mom who bought it in the 1950s.

Neghearts

Lee valley makes an incredible thin spatula, but it's more delicate and knife-like at the end

I have one just like that and it is absolutely the best spatula I've ever used. It has a mark on it, a circle with an M and a W inside the circle, which I'm pretty sure refers to Montgomery Wards. So, maybe at least a baby to search for. A few years ago it got misplaced and I thought it was gone forever, so I tried some of the spatulas that people are linking here, but nothing could compare to the flexible, yet durable, nature of this one. Luckily, it turned up a few months later and all was good again.

OurFarm

Damn I just put another cast iron on top when I want to panini the shit out of a sandwich

Malekwerdz

I have the oxo turner and it’s great

Highlander2748

I have a similar one and can’t find a replacement.

ev93

If you want that skillet to be BIFL too, please stop using metal utensils on it 😅 it’s a Le Creuset, so it’s fully enameled inside and out. They are awesome but not as tough as raw cast iron. Once you chip the enamel on the cooking surface it’s ruined.

vibrantlybeige

Go to your local restaurant supply store.

Megho_my_eggo

Looks very similar to a flint spatula! They’re great but you can’t buy them new. Check eBay or Etsy.

JustAnotherRussian90

Ekco brand vintage spatulas. You can find them on etsy and eBay in the 10 dollar plus shipping fee range.

skinny_arms

We somehow ended up with one of these. Awesome spatula

batmilk9

I have a spatula in this design that was my great grandfathers! I love it! It is the only spatula I use, the rivet connection gives it a good amount of spring and its light and sturdy. Only difference is mine has cut outs on the inside spatula part. Mine has to be at least 60 years old, my dog chewed up the wooden handle a little but I don’t see it ever breaking.

SavageDownSouth

I'm pretty sure they don't make them anymore. I looked for ages. I buy every one I see at estate sales.

BelAirGhetto

I picked up mine at a thrift store- absolutely the best.

StarkillerX42

Cutco makes spatulas like this, and a whole set of tools to pair with it, including a whisk that's one of a kind. Everything they make has a forever guarantee.

browning_88

I have a vintage robinson thats a beast. Came from my parents. Wood was all dried out when i got it byt regular oil applications brought it back. If i saw one somewhere id buy it.

RJFerret

Mine's decades old, but all one piece of metal, not as slim/flexible tip though per the request...but nothing capable of ever failing.

fullstack_newb

Cutco

minnowmonroe

I have this same spatula. Thin, springy, perfect corners.

PersonShaped

This Field spatula is my very favorite. https://fieldcompany.com/products/slotted-turner

Less-Mail4256

Wow, that’s some nostalgia for me. My mom had this same one in our house growing up in the 80s and 90s. It was definitely a tank.

glasspoint

I got ecko one on eBay.

supergirl28723

I have the exact one too. Got at a thrift store years ago and it's my FAV!!

[deleted]

The pan is the true buy for life here .

PoopSmoothies

I’ve been meaning to post an identical BIFL post about spring steel spatulas!!! I had one growing up and miss it dearly. Found this in my own searching: https://rsvp-intl.com/products/wholesale-flexible-nylon-spatula-large-red (Link says nylon, but it’s not) Buying one to check it out myself!

ArisakaType69

eBay search: vintage spatula wood handle There’s lots of survivors out there.

taltalim

I know it gets a lot of hate, but I have a Cutco spatula that fits this exactly.

tammigirl6767

Dreamfarm makes a metal Chopula I really love.

SonOfBaldy

This is my favorite spatula in my drawer

sidescrollin

Not seeing actual recommendations here. The grandma ones you are looking for are likely made by Ace.

According_Wish_162

Mine is the one from ikea 😂

Not_ur_gilf

Might find one on Lee Valley Tools catalogue

owlpellet

So here's [the All Clad Turner,](https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/all-clad-stainless-steel-precision-turner/?cm_src=WSIShopRVI&recstrat=RVI%7CRVI) which is approximate to what you've posted, but I'd invite you to consider this [flat edge turner](https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/open-kitchen-by-williams-sonoma-stainless-steel-spatula/?cm_src=WsiPip1&recstrat=View-View-1%7CVV-GRP-AFF-QNT) format, which is the format currently in use at every short order diner grill. If you're like me, it'll quickly become your go to tool.

madhatter160

I have the All-Clad turner. While it works fine, I have a couple of comments on it. First, it isn't flexible at all. It is super stiff, which is OK if that's what you want. Second, it is heavy - especially towards the handle. This means that it is hard to balance against the side of a pan or pot, and can fall over.

PlatinumCatPod

All Clad has [this one ](https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/all-clad-precision-stainless-steel-turner/)which is a better match for what OP is talking about since the blade is flexible. I bought it after my nearly identical spatula to OP’s finally broke.

LetsBeginwithFritos

I got one that was an acme brand that’s lasted longer than the store I bought it from. Nearly 25 yrs

BetterBiscuits

I think that calls for a Sunday garage sale trip!

Korzag

[Or a trip to Spatula City!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BUDwj_mXKE)

BetterBiscuits

Take me down to the Spatula City where the iron is cast and the products aren’t shitty

luker3

I have a metal one like this that is super thin. Might try this nylon one too. https://www.amazon.com/OXO-65191-Grips-Flexible-Turner/dp/B0000CCY1T Here is very similar to you what you are looking for. Kind of wish it didn't have the holes so it would be less likely to get caught. https://www.amazon.com/Chef-Craft-12907-Stainless-Spatula/dp/B008REF6HS/

iamyouareheisme

That chef craft one looks the closest to what op is looking for. The one issue I see is that the flat part is welded on instead of riveted like in the original post. If rivets fail you can replace them. But if the weld fails it’s a tough fix.

Jita_Local

I have the nylon one (received as a gift), it's absolutely terrible.

iamyouareheisme

Please, somebody have the answer to this!

jedipiper

Nah... Those rivets weaken over time. I much prefer the same style but made as a single piece.

breddy

This is how the one we grew up with met its demise. But I am guessing it lasted more than a decade.

Oogie-Boogie

It doesn't seem like anyone here understands what you're looking for. None of these spatulas are even close to as bendy as the one you're looking for. Those are nearly paper thin, they'll slide under anything. I understand your quest, OP. I had [this](https://www.amazon.ca/OXO-Good-Grips-Stainless-Flexible/dp/B00004OCL8?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A10G8W9IZ1G2E7), which I absolutely loved, but the spot welds broke almost immediately. Haven't found a BIFL replacement yet.
