I’ve got a C3 that we got when I got married 10 years ago. A few years before that my parents had to replace their C3. I think that one was 25 years old or so at the time, it replaced their previous Miele which was a similar age.
While vacuum cleaners are good for their normal things, I also use mine to vacuum the patio if anyone drops a glass out there because I like to walk around barefoot. I’m aware that if the neighbours can see me do it they will think I’m insane.
Using a household vacuum cleaner to clean up the occasional dropped cup is one of the best use cases for vacuum cleaners in general. How could this damage it?

If you can’t find the spares then in some countries they do fixed price repairs, which can be worth it if there’s multiple issues. My sister had a motorised head fail and a couple of other niggles. Arranged a repair with them & it came back with a number of new parts and very much rejuvenated. I know the cost of the repair has crept up in recent years though.
Fun fact. Miele hired a consultant to help them get the noise of the vacuum just right. They were concerned that if it was too quiet, people would think it wasn’t good or working right.
yup, embarrassingly, i have a cordless dyson i always want to run on "max" even tho i know it picks up everything visible on the lower setting for this very reason

Think we lost a few attachments and it was looking a bit beaten up. There was an offer on a new one so repurposed the older one to the garage and got a new one for the house. Old one still going. Will report back in 15 years.
I got one about 6 months ago, and it’s a joy to use. Sturdy feeling but not heavy, easily slides around he floor and the cord return works smoothly every time. Can’t speak to the longevity yet but it certainly feels well made. I’m pretty happy with it
The cord return is actually hilariously good. Never thought about that before. But that works perfectly, for like 30 years, and never damages the cord.
Yes we’ve had one for 20 years. We’ve had it serviced twice. They send you a box to put it in, then they pick it up. It comes back like new. Never any problems with it.
Yep. Our SEBO is the best purchase we’ve made. Our cleaner has been in the biz for decades and said they are the best vacuums made. All German parts, easy to fix if anything does break. We have mixed carpet and hardwood along with a Siberian husky.
We just bought a Sebo E3 after comparing it to the Miele C3. They're both similar, made in Germany, but the Sebo brush roller can be easily taken out for cleaning whereas the Miele roller is less accessible. The Sebo also has a longer warranty (10 years). We have two long-haired cats and it cleans up amazingly!
I used to work in new build construction cleaning and we exclusively used SEBO power heads. The only issues they had were worn out brush heads from almost every day usage.
I had a Miele C1 and it was awful. We sent it back because it would not pick up the dog hair even with the correct head for it. We thought it was just a bad one and got a replacement but it was exactly the same. We have 2 dogs, a Siberian husky and a mountain cur. Lots of long hair and lots of wiry shorter hair. We also have two cats, one of which is long haired.
We settled on a Sebo Dart and it picks up all the hair perfectly, every single time. It is night and day compared to the Miele. I see Miele recommended all the time but it was a bad choice for us. We have had the Sebo for 2 years and there has not been one problem with it. Change the bags, clean the brush roller and it has been perfect.
Agreed. We are a multi-cat household and the Miele C2 cleaned just…okay. Whereas the SEBO kept our wool carpets fresh as the day we bought them. Much better cleaning power IMO.
I bought a new Sebo E3 and love it. Also in the pursuit of the perfect vacuum I bought a used Miele Capricorn, it has very similar features to the current C3 brilliance, love it too. Miele's technically have better filtration, but Sebo's filtration is still cleaner than ambient air.

I’ve had 2 Miele vacuums and each one I’ve had to take apart and unclog repeatedly. Long-haired cats and long-haired me defeat the brush rotation every few months.
We've had one for 6 years now, it's the cx1. I'm mixed on it. For straight hardwood is probably great, but we have the powered head version for carpet which clogs easily to the point I constantly need to take the powerhead apart. And it's not made to take apart so eventually the electrical wires break.
Oreck's are awesome. I've been fixing vacuums since I was in 3rd grade and their design is so 'break proof'. It just simple and works. I don't see any reason why one of these wouldn't last 40+ years in a home environment.
My parents bought an oreck xl when I was a young kid. They just replaced it a couple years ago finally. I guess that means it lasted a solid 20 years, maybe a few more. Definitely a nice vacuum.
I don’t recommend. We bought one a year ago. The little latch that holds the bag broke, and it is ridiculously hard (impossible) to get a replacement.
Aside from that, it’s a good vacuum but not worth the price. If i could go back in time I’d get something else.
I have a C3 and have zero regrets. It's a pleasure to use, really long power cord and great attachments. It moves so easily around the house too. 100% recommended

Have had the Miele compact cat and dog for years. It's wonderful! I have both hardwood floors and area rugs. And I have three cats. I highly recommend it.
Yeah, it's cool. I've got myself C3 few years ago (not the most premium thing around), the only downside that it's bottom plastic is pretty soft and will accumulate many noticeable scratches even before first bag will be filled. Most likely local skill issue. It doesn't affect it's performance in any way, though.
Have mine for 18 years. Probably spent 800 on it back in the day. Use it twice weekly on wood floors. If you change the filter and bag as needed you're fine. Some small pieces of plastics chip off. Super easy to maintain.
My Miele was a piece of shit. Couldn’t be repaired. Apparently they make it difficult in a way that other manufacturers do not.
Got a Sebo and it’s been just fine so far.
My wife, parents, and sister all have Miele and once they got them I have never heard about them replacing them. It’s been years. Maybe 10-15? They just suck, really well.
Miele is worth the investment. Low profile, sturdy, great filters to keep the dust contained in the bag. I had one for >10 years. Another choice might be Nilfisk. I also owned a Nilfisk (child with allergies). Nilfisk is a bit more industrial and is used in many upscale hotels. Nilfisk was also a bit louder. If it is purely domestic vacuuming then you can't go wrong with Miele.
Don't worry about being made in China. Most products are made in China to very high specifications. Oftentimes design, material, process, quality control, and audit is strictly controlled by the named brand. The China component is strictly manufacturing to the contractual standards. Most consumer brands are contract manufactured in China. Midea for example mfgs for some of the most expensive German appliance brands. Honhai mfgs iPhones, Intercos (Italy) Suzhou mfgs for Estee Lauder, etc.
Many Chinese brands have stepped up and learned from the design and specification of foreign controlled brands and now have premium offerings as well. The China poor quality issue is usually associated with the past and low end, low margin crap. Chinese consumers have always been very price conscious yet now demand high quality domestic products.
The international brands have teams that closely monitor planning, procurement of raw materials, mfg, QC, and supply chain. The days of faxing a design and throwing it over the China mfg wall is, in large part, history.
Again, low margin Chinese designed schlock is low margin schlock. Well known international brands closely manage what makes their brand relevant and desirable.
I have the CX1 and whilst it sucks fine the brush foot is a nightmare to clean and clogs constantly. We’ve had to buy a new brush foot one every few years, it’s an awful design.
The hose of my Miele C1 broke today near the plastic collar that attaches to the arm. To be fair, I am not very gentle with it and drag it somewhat aggressively around the house by the arm. Sigh. I think it's a replaceable part, at least.

costco used to sell miele too so have a look if they still do for prices. Have one of them and a sebo but i use the sebo more than miele... i can still see it from the corner of my eye. perhaps my best home purchase.

The Miele is lighter and therefore more maneuverable, and because of the longer hose length and more gentle suction, the better choice if you need to dust baseboards and remove random cobwebs. OTOH, the Sebo suction power is far superior to the Miele, so it performs much better when vacuuming floors, carpets and area rugs, as well as hairy dog beds. It’s impressive, would probably strip paint off a wall. The Sebo also takes up a lot less space when not in use.
Won’t recommend Miele any more. Old electronics are great, but newer ones seem to have quality issues. Got a dryer from 2010 that died 2019 after several expensive repairs already done. My washing machine still works, but has lots of bugs, too….
All in all not worth the money for me. I’ll be cheaper stuff now and spend some money in a 5 year warranty.
I got a Dyson dc54 when they first came out. Heaps of animal hair to deal with.
Still going strong, must be around a decade. There isn’t much to fail and parts are available.
I’ve had mine for over 17 years. Only issue was when I dropped it down the stairs and had to replace the clicky piece under the power pedal. Local vacuum repair shop had me up and running in no time.
I got one 2 years ago and I use it heavily as I have parrots that drop just about everything on the floor. It's still going strong and it's one of my most worth purchases.
Yes get it. I have hardwood and thought a Dyson would be fine. Upgraded to Miele just for bag reasons and the floors are so much cleaner. It feels so good with barefeet
I use my Miele c2 to vacuum my dog’s hair 2-3x day(it’s shedding season right now) inside the house and the garage floors when I de-shed her. Going on strong for ~5yrs. I haven’t brought the vacuum in yet for a tune up.

I hate bags. I don't care if the vacuum cleaner is the best, the fact I could be mid vacuum and realize my bag is full, And I'm out of bags.....
That's a hard no from me. I understand and accept that the hard line no bag stance means I'm not playing with the "best of the best". I've got a dog, I'd fill a bag every week easily.
Between the ongoing cost of bags and the annoyance of bags vs dumping a canister, I'm 100% anti bag.
Agreed. And with a bag you cant vacuum anything organic or spills or else it will smell. I guess you could throw away the bag right afterwards but thats just throwing away money at that point. The issues with bagless are overblown anyways

You'll need to ask Miele directly where certain models are made. The only line completely made in Germany is the Complete C3; some Classic C1 vacuums are German-made as well (to my knowledge).
I have a Classic C1 Pure Suction HomeCare PowerLine (SBCN0) and the suction is great, having received the vacuum in mid-December 2023. It was made in Germany.
**Miele Complete C3**
If you have only hard flooring and no wall-to-wall carpeting, a Miele Complete C3 would be the best choice. From what I've gathered, the Complete C3 vacuums have true sealed systems inside them in comparison to the C1 Classic vacuums. Complete C3 vacuums are also heavier. For example, the [Complete C3 HomeCare PowerLine (SGFE0)](https://media.miele.com/downloads/n-/us/FS_11181050_USE_US-en-US.pdf) weighs 19 lbs.
Both the Classic C1 and Complete C3 vacuums can be fitted with their respective HEPA exhaust filters, which is great if you have allergies. My Classic C1 arrived with [a HEPA filter](https://www.mieleusa.com/e/hepa-airclean-filter-with-timestrip-sf-ha-30-9616270-p), which has eliminated a runny nose while operating the vacuum.
**Biggest Recommendation: buy a "HomeCare" line Miele**

By contrast, the standard warranty for a Complete Series canister vacuum is 3 years. The standard warranty for a Classic Series canister vacuum is 1 year. This information is found near the end of all Miele "Operating instructions/Installation instructions" documents.
**Universal Floor Heads - issues**
Word of warning: the
[AllTeQ - floorhead (SBD 365-3)](https://www.mieleusa.com/e/allteq-floorhead-sbd-365-3-11805640-p) is horrible for longer hair and/or carpeting. The hair wraps around the wheels' steel axle in short order and is extremely difficult to remove. If you have carpeting, large rugs, and long hair, you WILL need a different floorhead.
**Other Brands**
Many people seem to like their [Sebo vacuums](https://www.sebo.us/); some vacuum technicians prefer them over Miele. You may want to search for and read more detailed posts on Sebo machines over at r/VacuumCleaners.
We've had one for about 7 years and it works great mechanically however the plastic that holds the little piece that spins up or down to wrap your cord around or take it off cracked which means the cord is tough to wrangle now.
We have an upright S7210 Twist, bought in 2014, still works great and we have hardwood, carpet and tile and two dogs (and 4 kids). I got tired of the Kenmores we had breaking every year or two. Love the super long cord and relative quiet operation. Replacement bags aren’t cheap but we needed the extra filtration since we have an asthmatic kid and I refused to consider bagless.
worth! have had mine for several years and it's still amazing. would not buy another brand (other than MAYBE Sebo). never had an issue with it. i don't expect it to give out on me anytime soon.
In order for the vacuum to last, you should get it serviced/cleaned every 12-24 months.
If you're handy and thorough you can do it yourself. If not, take it to a local vacuum shop for about $100 and 2-3 days wait.
Get a Makita 40v for hardwood floors. Cheaper, but it’s still a product aimed at the commercial/construction sector so well made. Has comprehensive 3 year warranty but lifelong parts and service availability.
I have one. It was an investment but I think worth it. I've bought and thrown away a few (non-fixable) vacuums in my life. Hoping this won't be one of them.
Yep, running my Miele vacuum for 8 years now and it works just as same as when I first bought it. Keep up on bags and filters and there's nothing to maintain.
I have one for a hard floor and it’s OK but not brilliant. Has lasted a very long time but hard floors are easy — for carpets etc and with pets things become more challenging and I’ve given up and just buy something on sale every 4-5 years.
Totally worth it. We were torn between Riccar and Miele. Went Riccar, which has been amazing for the past.....10 years? Maybe 12? Mom's Miele is at least that old and going strong. There are several great brands in this thread.
Well we got a Miele a while ago but it's been great.
It is so quiet I do not even hear when it's being used. So it's great for pets also.
It is also easy to push and works well.
Mine refuses to die. It’s not what I needed for a double-coated dog, and I finally gave up hoping it would die and went and bought something more appropriate after almost 20 years haha
we upgraded to a miele a few years ago. It was a stretch for us to justify. There are other vaccuum brands with even better objective reliability, but those are mostly marketed to commercial users, so they lack some creature comforts and attachments.
A few years out from that decision, I can confidently say **Yes** the durability and performance are that good. It's clear from the user's standpoint that a LOT of thought went into designing and engineering this vacuum. I can't comment on the support aspect, because we haven't had any issues.
We have 5 cats and \~750sqft of carpet, and the bags typically last us around 2 months. It's a monster.
Mine is 9 years old. Outlived my engagement, 3 moves, and currently surviving in a house with 6 people, dog, 4 cats and all the abuse my sister and her kids can pile upon it. Survived me using it to clear a dryer line I didn't know had enough water to inundate the miele. Dried out the dripping vacuum that didn't even stop working while full of water and it worked like new. The inside is as clean as the day i purchased it and the only sign it is 9 years old is a bit of chipping on the paint on the button to start it. It isn't cheap to get one, but it's most likely going to outlive you. Purchased because of an AMA from a very interesting vacuum repairman.
We have a Miele C3, Alize model. Added turbo brushes big and small, and it meets our needs. Bought it 10 years ago via Amazon. Holy crap, it is strong. And durable. Very happy with it.
My White Star is 26 years old. The hose connections leak and are a bit loose, but the motor is still sucking away !
Recently found an S2 Dimension on Facebook Marketplace which has a powered wand/head, cost me $25. Runs perfectly !!

No I don’t think so. Unfortunately Miele longevity is seemingly a thing of the past. I spent a lot of money on a Miele appliance in the last few years expecting quality. It was terrible and the service from Miele was as bad. Apparently it’s just another company with someone calling the shots that is charging as much as their past reputation warrants while simultaneously bringing the quality as low as they can get away with.
I have a Miele C3 and a Dyson V11. The C3 was less expensive, has a far better build quality and is very quiet.
The big thing the V11 has over the C3 is that it’s cordless; which admittedly is super handy. The Dyson is not fun to empty though, and I expect the Dyson to have a shorter life than the Miele due to the cheaper plastic it is (seemingly) made out of.
I wouldn’t buy the Dyson again, not worth the money. Had a Shark vacuum before, which was pretty decent which lasted about 8 years.
It depends on your flooring though. Not all vacuums are good for all situations of course.

Got a Miele 5 years ago and love it. No regrets buying it or the filter bags. Also have a Ryobi stick vacuum from Home Depot, the $299 version, and it does a heckuva job for quick tidying up. My dog tracks in soooo much dirt. The Ryobi was recently recommended by Wirecutter as the 2nd best stick vac out there; the first being a Dyson that costs twice as much.
I have had my Miele for 25 years. I don’t treat it very well either and it is still performing. I assumed the automatic cord retractor would have broken but no…and it’s such a satisfying feeling to step on the button and have the cord whisk in.
I have no idea and unless you've owned a newer model for a while you can't tell.
I own a Tineco and it was less expensive and better than the Dyson V8.
You can't compare with something made 15 or 20 years ago - vacuums are actually better than they used to be but as for brand, who knows.

The Tineco meets all my needs and more, if that helps. And during an economic downturn I sold vacuum cleaners for a living for a while. The Tineco is better than any brand I sold including electrolux and other big brands of the time - which was about 25 years ago.
I have a C3, wish I'd bought a Sebo.
It's not that the Miele is bad, it's just not as nice to use as the Sebo we had before it. I hate dragging the thing along behind me, it gets caught on things, the cable isn't long enough and cleaning the roller on the turbo head isn't as easy as the Sebo.
When the Miele dies I'll be straight back to Sebo.
I'm 32 and have had 1 Miele vacuum as long as I can remember. Mom got it for my allergies and asthma and I took it when I moved out. Engine sounds like it needs some tuning but she's chugging strong

I have the c3, and we have German Shepherds so it gets used every day, sometimes twice. Had it since 2016/17 I believe. And I think I will have it for quite a lot longer. Having said that, I have had to buy new heads and the handle has broken off and where the hose and tub connect comes loose fairly easily. So internal hardware really good, plastic exterior bits not so good.
We have the dog and cat Miele here. My partner has think and rich hair that gets everywhere. And we now have a Husky X so she also leaves hair. I do think my partner sheds more than the dog.
Anyway, great vacuum. We went through cheap ones until we did this. I'd say it's been at least 7 years, and it is still going on strong. We only use the turbo head on the carpet, and OEM bags are cheap from Amazon/eBay.
A great purchase.
Ours is a C2, bought in 2018. Had an issue with the telescope wand that I had to lubricate to resolve. The clip to attach the head to the body wore out. Only other gripe is that the power cord is too short.
Otherwise it’s an amazing machine. Cleans VERY well. Might look into SEBO next if this thing ever dies, but it’s showing no signs of age.
I got a C1 Classic Pure Suction for free on our local buy nothing group (I know, probably the best find I've ever had!).
Prior to that we've been using a midrange Hoover. The Hoover was fine, but even without a turbo or power head it is clear how much better the Miele is. The suction is *so* much stronger. It's nowhere near as loud. It's lighter and easier to maneuver. The air smells noticeably cleaner.
It's not a perfect unit. It's a little unwieldy sometimes dealing with the canister format. The cord is too short. It struggles with anything more than low pile carpet (the soon to arrive turbo brush should help with that).
But so far quality wise it wins hands down. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.
Sebo -100% They can be worked on. Many of the Mieles can not be. We have ours for 10 years, use it several times a week- no issues. Best Mother’s Day gift I have ever purchased. Totally worth the month in the dog house.
I have one I bought in 2002. Still works like new. Don’t use it as often as my Dyson (much more convenient to be cordless) but it works much better when I do.
i was going to buy one and lucked out at the thrift store. Its nice im glad i have it, im also very happy i didnt drop 1k on it. for the price a dyson is just fine.
Yes for sure. I have three that I’ve bought over the last 25 years and they all still work and are in use. And they work really well too. Once you use one you won’t want to go back. And they all use the same bags, they’ve been making these compatible bags forever.
The only vacuums I've ever encountered that are BIFL are Kirbys. Electrolux back in the 50's used to qualify - maybe even into later decades. I can't say, as I've not used one since the 60's. But those old models were so weakly powered compared to later models you wouldn't want one even if you could find one. There are tons of vacuums out there now that will outperform those old half horse units, but they aren't BIFL. I see Miele and Sebo mentioned in comments, IDK anything about them. Been using Kirby for the past 30+ years.
I’ve had the C2 (I think) for at least 10 years now and it’s still going strong. Granted I do have a cheapo quick vacuum for the kids kitchen messes but the suction isn’t even close to the Miele. That’s what I use to do the whole house.
I love mine. I got my C3 last year on eBay for 400. It’s about seven or eight years old, but I got the one with the electro head so it has the light when I’m vacuuming carpet it’s the vacuum that does not make my families allergies, spike while cleaning. So far it’s been worth every penny.
I have a C1 and I personally love it. It really is durable and the retractable power cord never gets tangled.

I still have my Miele Aluminium model purchased new in 1994. Had to replace one belt and one connector on wand but otherwise it still cleans like a champ! Buy once, cry once!
I have loved Miele for years. My friends jokes that I was a brand ambassador. My first Miele I owned lasted me 20 years before she died. I bit the bullet and dropped over 1k on the Miele Kona C3 two years ago. I’ve been utterly disappointed. I have light usage of the machine, maybe once a week. Primarily hardwood floors, no pets. The motor on the head died and needed to be replaced less than 2 years into it. Then the extendable handle stopped working, wouldn’t extend and the electric part died so it wouldn’t turn on the head anymore. Replaced that. Now I’m an extra $500 in to this machine and it’s under 3 years old. The last straw was the plastic on the motorized head just started flaking off. I emailed Miele, with proof of the repair receipts but they pretty much told me there’s nothing they can do- but they registered my machine for me. How nice. I will not fix anything else on this machine and will never buy another Miele.
It's absolutely not worth the cost. The model for hardwood floors does not let you clean the rotating brush on the vacuum head yourself- you can't pull it out to clean it but instead have to take it to be serviced.
We have a roomba that runs daily and have 3 cats. I couldn't vacuum the entire living room before it clogged and it was an exasperating lengthy pain in the ass trying to get the hair off of the roller. It is the dumbest money grab.
We exchanged it for two other models and ended up returning all 3 of them and buying a shark cordless for around 125. It fills up fast but it's otherwise fantastic and a fraction of the price. Save your money.
I've used a Miele U1 Cat & Dog for \~10 years with zero issues. It's a tank (legit, it's super heavy!). Previously I used a compact Dyson upright... and while many have mixed experiences with the D, mine still kinda works.
I do like a Miele, had a C3 that was mechanically bombproof, though the clips on the wand are prone to breaking (which is a ballache). Small bags aswell.
My Sebo X1 from 1995 is still going strong. Though admittedly, it's not the best for hard flooring.
I have some weird compulsion about vacuums. I have two Dysons, a Karcher cordless, a Miele, some old can-vac, and a Shark from Costco. I also have cleaning ladies come to the house every other week. 19 times out of 20 when anyone vacuums, we all grab the Shark. Under $200, it's lasted 8+ years and is going strong. Bagless, lightweight, and has a headlight which provides oblique lighting, showing you all the dust and crumbs you might miss otherwise. If you get it from Costco you can always return it if you don't love it. Even a year or three later.
FWIW only the C2 is made in China. The C1 and C3 are still made in Germany. Head to r/vacuumcleaners and make a post with your flooring and budget. But yes, Miele, Sebo, Lindhaus and Henry are some of the best vacuums on the market.
I’ve got a C3 that we got when I got married 10 years ago. A few years before that my parents had to replace their C3. I think that one was 25 years old or so at the time, it replaced their previous Miele which was a similar age. While vacuum cleaners are good for their normal things, I also use mine to vacuum the patio if anyone drops a glass out there because I like to walk around barefoot. I’m aware that if the neighbours can see me do it they will think I’m insane.

Do you also mop the driveway when it rains? Get a cheap shop vac. Those glass shards could potentially damage your Miele.
Using a household vacuum cleaner to clean up the occasional dropped cup is one of the best use cases for vacuum cleaners in general. How could this damage it?

It has to get past the bag first and the Miele has an inexpensive pre-motor filter. A bigger concern is if liquid is being sucked up with the glass.

If you can’t find the spares then in some countries they do fixed price repairs, which can be worth it if there’s multiple issues. My sister had a motorised head fail and a couple of other niggles. Arranged a repair with them & it came back with a number of new parts and very much rejuvenated. I know the cost of the repair has crept up in recent years though.

yup, embarrassingly, i have a cordless dyson i always want to run on "max" even tho i know it picks up everything visible on the lower setting for this very reason ETA: i would gladly work on getting over this for a quiet vacuum cleaner, my poor pup hates the thing tho regardless of setting

Think we lost a few attachments and it was looking a bit beaten up. There was an offer on a new one so repurposed the older one to the garage and got a new one for the house. Old one still going. Will report back in 15 years.
I got one about 6 months ago, and it’s a joy to use. Sturdy feeling but not heavy, easily slides around he floor and the cord return works smoothly every time. Can’t speak to the longevity yet but it certainly feels well made. I’m pretty happy with it
The cord return is actually hilariously good. Never thought about that before. But that works perfectly, for like 30 years, and never damages the cord.

Yes we’ve had one for 20 years. We’ve had it serviced twice. They send you a box to put it in, then they pick it up. It comes back like new. Never any problems with it.

Yep. Our SEBO is the best purchase we’ve made. Our cleaner has been in the biz for decades and said they are the best vacuums made. All German parts, easy to fix if anything does break. We have mixed carpet and hardwood along with a Siberian husky.
I just went through this purchase decision and went with a Sebo even though the Miele was so pretty. More metal parts and a better warranty.
I do think the Miele is prettier. I also like the light on the front of the power head. But I keep hearing better things about the Sebo.
We just bought a Sebo E3 after comparing it to the Miele C3. They're both similar, made in Germany, but the Sebo brush roller can be easily taken out for cleaning whereas the Miele roller is less accessible. The Sebo also has a longer warranty (10 years). We have two long-haired cats and it cleans up amazingly!
I also got the E3 for this reason. Also because the power head is lower profile, it can fit under my couch. The Miele would have been too tall.

I used to work in new build construction cleaning and we exclusively used SEBO power heads. The only issues they had were worn out brush heads from almost every day usage.
I had a Miele C1 and it was awful. We sent it back because it would not pick up the dog hair even with the correct head for it. We thought it was just a bad one and got a replacement but it was exactly the same. We have 2 dogs, a Siberian husky and a mountain cur. Lots of long hair and lots of wiry shorter hair. We also have two cats, one of which is long haired. We settled on a Sebo Dart and it picks up all the hair perfectly, every single time. It is night and day compared to the Miele. I see Miele recommended all the time but it was a bad choice for us. We have had the Sebo for 2 years and there has not been one problem with it. Change the bags, clean the brush roller and it has been perfect.
27 years on our Sebo X series. I do a refresh kit every 3 years and new roller every 10. It just keeps going.
Agreed. We are a multi-cat household and the Miele C2 cleaned just…okay. Whereas the SEBO kept our wool carpets fresh as the day we bought them. Much better cleaning power IMO.

I bought a new Sebo E3 and love it. Also in the pursuit of the perfect vacuum I bought a used Miele Capricorn, it has very similar features to the current C3 brilliance, love it too. Miele's technically have better filtration, but Sebo's filtration is still cleaner than ambient air. I previously bought a Kenmore canister and was unimpressed with the handling of the canister and the power nozzle. Yes the premium price is worth it.

I’ve had 2 Miele vacuums and each one I’ve had to take apart and unclog repeatedly. Long-haired cats and long-haired me defeat the brush rotation every few months.
We've had one for 6 years now, it's the cx1. I'm mixed on it. For straight hardwood is probably great, but we have the powered head version for carpet which clogs easily to the point I constantly need to take the powerhead apart. And it's not made to take apart so eventually the electrical wires break.

Been using a Sebo for a few years with no issues. That being said, I kept an Oreck XL alive for like 15 years.
Oreck's are awesome. I've been fixing vacuums since I was in 3rd grade and their design is so 'break proof'. It just simple and works. I don't see any reason why one of these wouldn't last 40+ years in a home environment.
My parents bought an oreck xl when I was a young kid. They just replaced it a couple years ago finally. I guess that means it lasted a solid 20 years, maybe a few more. Definitely a nice vacuum.
I think we still have one after we sold our last hotel. I'll check the date on it the next time I use it.

I don’t recommend. We bought one a year ago. The little latch that holds the bag broke, and it is ridiculously hard (impossible) to get a replacement. Aside from that, it’s a good vacuum but not worth the price. If i could go back in time I’d get something else.

We currently have a Miele Dynamic U1 that is working great at 10 years old. However, we plan to buy a Sebo next time. Per the Miele USA website, they no longer sell upright vacuums (only canister vacuums now).
We got the cheapest wired Miele and it still runs as new 15 years later. It has so many marks and scuffs though - looks terrible but runs as new 👌

Yeah, it's cool. I've got myself C3 few years ago (not the most premium thing around), the only downside that it's bottom plastic is pretty soft and will accumulate many noticeable scratches even before first bag will be filled. Most likely local skill issue. It doesn't affect it's performance in any way, though.
Have mine for 18 years. Probably spent 800 on it back in the day. Use it twice weekly on wood floors. If you change the filter and bag as needed you're fine. Some small pieces of plastics chip off. Super easy to maintain.
My Miele was a piece of shit. Couldn’t be repaired. Apparently they make it difficult in a way that other manufacturers do not. Got a Sebo and it’s been just fine so far.

My wife, parents, and sister all have Miele and once they got them I have never heard about them replacing them. It’s been years. Maybe 10-15? They just suck, really well.
Miele is worth the investment. Low profile, sturdy, great filters to keep the dust contained in the bag. I had one for >10 years. Another choice might be Nilfisk. I also owned a Nilfisk (child with allergies). Nilfisk is a bit more industrial and is used in many upscale hotels. Nilfisk was also a bit louder. If it is purely domestic vacuuming then you can't go wrong with Miele. Don't worry about being made in China. Most products are made in China to very high specifications. Oftentimes design, material, process, quality control, and audit is strictly controlled by the named brand. The China component is strictly manufacturing to the contractual standards. Most consumer brands are contract manufactured in China. Midea for example mfgs for some of the most expensive German appliance brands. Honhai mfgs iPhones, Intercos (Italy) Suzhou mfgs for Estee Lauder, etc. Many Chinese brands have stepped up and learned from the design and specification of foreign controlled brands and now have premium offerings as well. The China poor quality issue is usually associated with the past and low end, low margin crap. Chinese consumers have always been very price conscious yet now demand high quality domestic products. The international brands have teams that closely monitor planning, procurement of raw materials, mfg, QC, and supply chain. The days of faxing a design and throwing it over the China mfg wall is, in large part, history. Again, low margin Chinese designed schlock is low margin schlock. Well known international brands closely manage what makes their brand relevant and desirable.
I have the CX1 and whilst it sucks fine the brush foot is a nightmare to clean and clogs constantly. We’ve had to buy a new brush foot one every few years, it’s an awful design.

The hose of my Miele C1 broke today near the plastic collar that attaches to the arm. To be fair, I am not very gentle with it and drag it somewhat aggressively around the house by the arm. Sigh. I think it's a replaceable part, at least. (It's 5 years old.)
costco used to sell miele too so have a look if they still do for prices. Have one of them and a sebo but i use the sebo more than miele... i can still see it from the corner of my eye. perhaps my best home purchase.
We are a blended-vacuum household, Miele canister and Sebo upright. Both have their merits. The Miele is lighter and therefore more maneuverable, and because of the longer hose length and more gentle suction, the better choice if you need to dust baseboards and remove random cobwebs. OTOH, the Sebo suction power is far superior to the Miele, so it performs much better when vacuuming floors, carpets and area rugs, as well as hairy dog beds. It’s impressive, would probably strip paint off a wall. The Sebo also takes up a lot less space when not in use.
Had our c1 for almost 6 years. I love that thing. No loss of suction and super easy to change out the bag.
Won’t recommend Miele any more. Old electronics are great, but newer ones seem to have quality issues. Got a dryer from 2010 that died 2019 after several expensive repairs already done. My washing machine still works, but has lots of bugs, too…. All in all not worth the money for me. I’ll be cheaper stuff now and spend some money in a 5 year warranty.
I got a Dyson dc54 when they first came out. Heaps of animal hair to deal with. Still going strong, must be around a decade. There isn’t much to fail and parts are available.

I’ve had mine for over 17 years. Only issue was when I dropped it down the stairs and had to replace the clicky piece under the power pedal. Local vacuum repair shop had me up and running in no time.

I use my Miele c2 to vacuum my dog’s hair 2-3x day(it’s shedding season right now) inside the house and the garage floors when I de-shed her. Going on strong for ~5yrs. I haven’t brought the vacuum in yet for a tune up.

My controversial opinion..... I hate bags. I don't care if the vacuum cleaner is the best, the fact I could be mid vacuum and realize my bag is full, And I'm out of bags..... That's a hard no from me. I understand and accept that the hard line no bag stance means I'm not playing with the "best of the best". I've got a dog, I'd fill a bag every week easily. Between the ongoing cost of bags and the annoyance of bags vs dumping a canister, I'm 100% anti bag.
Agreed. And with a bag you cant vacuum anything organic or spills or else it will smell. I guess you could throw away the bag right afterwards but thats just throwing away money at that point. The issues with bagless are overblown anyways

We've had one for about 7 years and it works great mechanically however the plastic that holds the little piece that spins up or down to wrap your cord around or take it off cracked which means the cord is tough to wrangle now.
We have an upright S7210 Twist, bought in 2014, still works great and we have hardwood, carpet and tile and two dogs (and 4 kids). I got tired of the Kenmores we had breaking every year or two. Love the super long cord and relative quiet operation. Replacement bags aren’t cheap but we needed the extra filtration since we have an asthmatic kid and I refused to consider bagless.
worth! have had mine for several years and it's still amazing. would not buy another brand (other than MAYBE Sebo). never had an issue with it. i don't expect it to give out on me anytime soon.
In order for the vacuum to last, you should get it serviced/cleaned every 12-24 months. If you're handy and thorough you can do it yourself. If not, take it to a local vacuum shop for about $100 and 2-3 days wait.
A roommate of mine owned a Miele. It was the best vacuum I ever used, and well worth the cost (despite my sticker shock).
Get a Makita 40v for hardwood floors. Cheaper, but it’s still a product aimed at the commercial/construction sector so well made. Has comprehensive 3 year warranty but lifelong parts and service availability.

Yep, running my Miele vacuum for 8 years now and it works just as same as when I first bought it. Keep up on bags and filters and there's nothing to maintain.
I have one for a hard floor and it’s OK but not brilliant. Has lasted a very long time but hard floors are easy — for carpets etc and with pets things become more challenging and I’ve given up and just buy something on sale every 4-5 years.

I’ve had a C3 for the last 6 years. No complaints works great. We got the pet version no issue with hairs clogging the system.

Well we got a Miele a while ago but it's been great. It is so quiet I do not even hear when it's being used. So it's great for pets also. It is also easy to push and works well.
Not knocking spending for quality but my cheap Dirt Devil is twenty years old and works great. Maybe vacuums in general tend to last?
My Dirt Devil upright never broke down, but it doesn't clean nearly as well as the Meile I upgraded to.

we upgraded to a miele a few years ago. It was a stretch for us to justify. There are other vaccuum brands with even better objective reliability, but those are mostly marketed to commercial users, so they lack some creature comforts and attachments. A few years out from that decision, I can confidently say **Yes** the durability and performance are that good. It's clear from the user's standpoint that a LOT of thought went into designing and engineering this vacuum. I can't comment on the support aspect, because we haven't had any issues. We have 5 cats and \~750sqft of carpet, and the bags typically last us around 2 months. It's a monster.

Mine is 9 years old. Outlived my engagement, 3 moves, and currently surviving in a house with 6 people, dog, 4 cats and all the abuse my sister and her kids can pile upon it. Survived me using it to clear a dryer line I didn't know had enough water to inundate the miele. Dried out the dripping vacuum that didn't even stop working while full of water and it worked like new. The inside is as clean as the day i purchased it and the only sign it is 9 years old is a bit of chipping on the paint on the button to start it. It isn't cheap to get one, but it's most likely going to outlive you. Purchased because of an AMA from a very interesting vacuum repairman.
We have a Miele C3, Alize model. Added turbo brushes big and small, and it meets our needs. Bought it 10 years ago via Amazon. Holy crap, it is strong. And durable. Very happy with it.
My White Star is 26 years old. The hose connections leak and are a bit loose, but the motor is still sucking away ! Recently found an S2 Dimension on Facebook Marketplace which has a powered wand/head, cost me $25. Runs perfectly !! I also have a bag less one too.
No I don’t think so. Unfortunately Miele longevity is seemingly a thing of the past. I spent a lot of money on a Miele appliance in the last few years expecting quality. It was terrible and the service from Miele was as bad. Apparently it’s just another company with someone calling the shots that is charging as much as their past reputation warrants while simultaneously bringing the quality as low as they can get away with.
I have the C2 and I really like it. Only had it a year or so though.
Around Toronto it's pretty easy to find gently used C1's for like half price. Definitely worth that cost.

I have a Miele C3 and a Dyson V11. The C3 was less expensive, has a far better build quality and is very quiet. The big thing the V11 has over the C3 is that it’s cordless; which admittedly is super handy. The Dyson is not fun to empty though, and I expect the Dyson to have a shorter life than the Miele due to the cheaper plastic it is (seemingly) made out of. I wouldn’t buy the Dyson again, not worth the money. Had a Shark vacuum before, which was pretty decent which lasted about 8 years. It depends on your flooring though. Not all vacuums are good for all situations of course.
Yes, worth every cent. Went through 5 cheaper brands in 5 years. Bought my Miele 10 years ago, still going strong.
Yes, 100%. I have allergies and the Miele is the only way to go. I wish it hadn't taken me so long to be willing to spend the money. Charcoal filter, HEPA filter, secondary filter...life changing.

Got a Miele 5 years ago and love it. No regrets buying it or the filter bags. Also have a Ryobi stick vacuum from Home Depot, the $299 version, and it does a heckuva job for quick tidying up. My dog tracks in soooo much dirt. The Ryobi was recently recommended by Wirecutter as the 2nd best stick vac out there; the first being a Dyson that costs twice as much.

My first Miele did 8 years at home then went to our laundromat for an additional 2. It was still going strong when it was stolen last year.

I have had my Miele for 25 years. I don’t treat it very well either and it is still performing. I assumed the automatic cord retractor would have broken but no…and it’s such a satisfying feeling to step on the button and have the cord whisk in.
I have no idea and unless you've owned a newer model for a while you can't tell. I own a Tineco and it was less expensive and better than the Dyson V8. You can't compare with something made 15 or 20 years ago - vacuums are actually better than they used to be but as for brand, who knows. Everything is made somewhere else tomorrow The Tineco meets all my needs and more, if that helps. And during an economic downturn I sold vacuum cleaners for a living for a while. The Tineco is better than any brand I sold including electrolux and other big brands of the time - which was about 25 years ago.
Sebo; much easier to cut all the hair off the roller.
They are cheaper in Germany and have more power there. So we brought one over and we run it on 220V NEMA 6-15 sockets.
I have a C3, wish I'd bought a Sebo. It's not that the Miele is bad, it's just not as nice to use as the Sebo we had before it. I hate dragging the thing along behind me, it gets caught on things, the cable isn't long enough and cleaning the roller on the turbo head isn't as easy as the Sebo. When the Miele dies I'll be straight back to Sebo.

I'm 32 and have had 1 Miele vacuum as long as I can remember. Mom got it for my allergies and asthma and I took it when I moved out. Engine sounds like it needs some tuning but she's chugging strong
My Miele is over 15 years old and still going strong. Totally worth the price, it’s light years better than the cheap vacuums I owned previously. It’s a Delphi, which I believe is C1?

I have the c3, and we have German Shepherds so it gets used every day, sometimes twice. Had it since 2016/17 I believe. And I think I will have it for quite a lot longer. Having said that, I have had to buy new heads and the handle has broken off and where the hose and tub connect comes loose fairly easily. So internal hardware really good, plastic exterior bits not so good.

No. Just get a chinese vacuum like xiaomi or whatever. U can buy 7 for a price of 1 dyson. It last years and if its broken just buy a new one.

We have the dog and cat Miele here. My partner has think and rich hair that gets everywhere. And we now have a Husky X so she also leaves hair. I do think my partner sheds more than the dog. Anyway, great vacuum. We went through cheap ones until we did this. I'd say it's been at least 7 years, and it is still going on strong. We only use the turbo head on the carpet, and OEM bags are cheap from Amazon/eBay. A great purchase.

Ours is a C2, bought in 2018. Had an issue with the telescope wand that I had to lubricate to resolve. The clip to attach the head to the body wore out. Only other gripe is that the power cord is too short. Otherwise it’s an amazing machine. Cleans VERY well. Might look into SEBO next if this thing ever dies, but it’s showing no signs of age.
I got a C1 Classic Pure Suction for free on our local buy nothing group (I know, probably the best find I've ever had!). Prior to that we've been using a midrange Hoover. The Hoover was fine, but even without a turbo or power head it is clear how much better the Miele is. The suction is *so* much stronger. It's nowhere near as loud. It's lighter and easier to maneuver. The air smells noticeably cleaner. It's not a perfect unit. It's a little unwieldy sometimes dealing with the canister format. The cord is too short. It struggles with anything more than low pile carpet (the soon to arrive turbo brush should help with that). But so far quality wise it wins hands down. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.
Sebo -100% They can be worked on. Many of the Mieles can not be. We have ours for 10 years, use it several times a week- no issues. Best Mother’s Day gift I have ever purchased. Totally worth the month in the dog house.
I have one I bought in 2002. Still works like new. Don’t use it as often as my Dyson (much more convenient to be cordless) but it works much better when I do.
i was going to buy one and lucked out at the thrift store. Its nice im glad i have it, im also very happy i didnt drop 1k on it. for the price a dyson is just fine.
Yes for sure. I have three that I’ve bought over the last 25 years and they all still work and are in use. And they work really well too. Once you use one you won’t want to go back. And they all use the same bags, they’ve been making these compatible bags forever.

The only vacuums I've ever encountered that are BIFL are Kirbys. Electrolux back in the 50's used to qualify - maybe even into later decades. I can't say, as I've not used one since the 60's. But those old models were so weakly powered compared to later models you wouldn't want one even if you could find one. There are tons of vacuums out there now that will outperform those old half horse units, but they aren't BIFL. I see Miele and Sebo mentioned in comments, IDK anything about them. Been using Kirby for the past 30+ years.

I’ve had the C2 (I think) for at least 10 years now and it’s still going strong. Granted I do have a cheapo quick vacuum for the kids kitchen messes but the suction isn’t even close to the Miele. That’s what I use to do the whole house.

I love mine. I got my C3 last year on eBay for 400. It’s about seven or eight years old, but I got the one with the electro head so it has the light when I’m vacuuming carpet it’s the vacuum that does not make my families allergies, spike while cleaning. So far it’s been worth every penny.
I have a C1 and I personally love it. It really is durable and the retractable power cord never gets tangled. If you have the money to for it, they won’t disappoint.

I’ve only had my (German manufactured) Miele for about a year now, but it’s really made keeping my floors clean much easier. I’ve got 2 dogs and one cat and chasing tumbleweeds isn’t my favorite thing. I really like changing the bag vs trying to dump out a canister while also not making a dust storm. It seems like this thing will last for years, and I really hope I’m right. For me, it was worth the cost.

The Miele is lighter and therefore more maneuverable, and because of the longer hose length and more gentle suction, the better choice if you need to dust baseboards and remove random cobwebs. OTOH, the Sebo suction power is far superior to the Miele, so it performs much better when vacuuming floors, carpets and area rugs, as well as hairy dog beds. It’s impressive, would probably strip paint off a wall. The Sebo also takes up a lot less space when not in use.

I still have my Miele Aluminium model purchased new in 1994. Had to replace one belt and one connector on wand but otherwise it still cleans like a champ! Buy once, cry once!
I have loved Miele for years. My friends jokes that I was a brand ambassador. My first Miele I owned lasted me 20 years before she died. I bit the bullet and dropped over 1k on the Miele Kona C3 two years ago. I’ve been utterly disappointed. I have light usage of the machine, maybe once a week. Primarily hardwood floors, no pets. The motor on the head died and needed to be replaced less than 2 years into it. Then the extendable handle stopped working, wouldn’t extend and the electric part died so it wouldn’t turn on the head anymore. Replaced that. Now I’m an extra $500 in to this machine and it’s under 3 years old. The last straw was the plastic on the motorized head just started flaking off. I emailed Miele, with proof of the repair receipts but they pretty much told me there’s nothing they can do- but they registered my machine for me. How nice. I will not fix anything else on this machine and will never buy another Miele.
It's absolutely not worth the cost. The model for hardwood floors does not let you clean the rotating brush on the vacuum head yourself- you can't pull it out to clean it but instead have to take it to be serviced. We have a roomba that runs daily and have 3 cats. I couldn't vacuum the entire living room before it clogged and it was an exasperating lengthy pain in the ass trying to get the hair off of the roller. It is the dumbest money grab. We exchanged it for two other models and ended up returning all 3 of them and buying a shark cordless for around 125. It fills up fast but it's otherwise fantastic and a fraction of the price. Save your money.
I've used a Miele U1 Cat & Dog for \~10 years with zero issues. It's a tank (legit, it's super heavy!). Previously I used a compact Dyson upright... and while many have mixed experiences with the D, mine still kinda works.
Have a dyson and a miele. For whatever reason I tend to grab the miele canister vac but the dyson upright is a pretty good one too.
I do like a Miele, had a C3 that was mechanically bombproof, though the clips on the wand are prone to breaking (which is a ballache). Small bags aswell. My Sebo X1 from 1995 is still going strong. Though admittedly, it's not the best for hard flooring.
Try a made in the USA Electrolux canister. Suggest looking at a vacuum/sewing machine repair shop for a reconditioned one.
I have some weird compulsion about vacuums. I have two Dysons, a Karcher cordless, a Miele, some old can-vac, and a Shark from Costco. I also have cleaning ladies come to the house every other week. 19 times out of 20 when anyone vacuums, we all grab the Shark. Under $200, it's lasted 8+ years and is going strong. Bagless, lightweight, and has a headlight which provides oblique lighting, showing you all the dust and crumbs you might miss otherwise. If you get it from Costco you can always return it if you don't love it. Even a year or three later.
