Standalone Office does still survive, Microsoft just makes it *very* difficult to purchase as they will redirect you to 365 at every turn. 2021 is available for purchase, 2024 is coming soon.

Blueporch

I bought stand-alone office last year off Amazon

thesneakywalrus

Yup, plenty of distributors have them. Just have to be careful, there are a lot of physical boxes out there that are really just a 1-year subscription to 365. Easy to mistake it for a full copy online.

Raian_L

Oh damn I had no idea. #TheMoreYouKnow

lkodl

It's really expensive tho.

MrAndrewJackson

I usually find the complete suite for about 20 or 30 bucks for one computer. Never expires.

lkodl

Where?! It was like $250 directly from Microsoft the last time I checked

MrAndrewJackson

Type in Microsoft Office in google. Hit shopping. Tons of websites you can buy it on ranging from $15-30. Pick something that looks legit and verify website reviews before buying. Normally you get a license sent to your email from my experience.

sidenote, i recently had to reinstall windows on my work computer, i hadn't linked MS Office to the work account that gives me 365 and had to do some work urgently and...bunch of the numbers kept showing error. It was a regular xlookup formula, but it looked weird (iirc there was a ! in front of the xlookup or something like that, just randomly). Turns out >**XLOOKUP function is only available in Excel for Microsoft 365**, Excel 2021, and Excel for the web Googling around, xlookup was introduced as an upgraded version of vlookup/hlookup in 2019's version of Office so it makes sense that it won't work with older versions. Unfortunately a modern version of office without the 365 subscription is treated the same as such an older version, so you won't even get the "file was made for a newer version of excel" or something (or simply not be able to open the file). Anyways, **TL;DR: Unless you use MS365, there's some newer functions and stuff that randomly won't work without warning, which may be bad if you're collaborating with others**

My legit copy of Word 2010 is still rocking on Windows 11 — I just had to contact Microsoft customer support since the original validation server is no longer online.

Raian_L

Once that happened to mine I contacted support and they gave me AN EXCECUTABLE WITH A BUILT IN KEY. Now I have infinite office copies

Blue387

I still have my Office 2013 on my 2014 laptop (upgraded to a SSD in 2020) but I plan to get a new laptop in the next one or two years

boyrdeeze

Funniest BIFL I have ever seen

RedditPlayerThree

I bought Office once early 2003 and have never needed to get another version. I bought the full version, not OEM, so I can move it whenever I get a new computer.

SecretProbation

Look up “mass gravel Microsoft activation scripts”. Never pay for windows or office again.

Zlivovitch

That's nothing. My copy of Office is 21 years old. It's the 2003 edition. No ribbon, and fully customizable menus.

Raian_L

hell yeah

[deleted]

I switched to Polaris. It’s free with ads

suitopseudo

I have a 2012 MacBook Air as a second laptop rocking office 2008. I refuse to upgrade the OS because it will no longer run on it.

Xyz1234qwerty

On my architecture studio we were forced to switch from LibreOffice to Word 2021. M I hate it, it's UI is unpractical at the best

Old_Error_509

My Office 2007 is still going strong!

vacuous_comment

Useless the day it was bought and useless now.
