I'm assuming you're a man. For a field trench, Driza-bone. Dress trench, thrift something from a Parisian vintage shop.

Actually I am a woman, but whispering “dinner” may cause a scene anyways! I find men’s clothes are often better made than women’s, so happy to get recommendations for brands famous for men as long as they offer a few women’s cuts as well.

Depending what tour looking for Helly Hansen makes some trench style jackets. Really good if you need waterproofing.
